Heather Hodson FLY FISHING Trip into Pacific Northwest Mountains - Fly fishing for Cutthroat Trout

  • Heather Hodson on a solo fly fishing trip on her home waters in the Pacific Northwest in search of cutthroat trout and solitude. My day Fly Fishing with Heather Hodson took us along some beautiful stretches of water during perfect summer conditions. Insect hatches, clear skies and warm temps made this an enjoyable and ideal filming adventure on small creeks. Heather Hodson founded an interactive community based website for anglers called United Women on the Fly in 2016. “I’ve been fly fishing since 2008 and am by no means an expert. But I am very passionate about the sport of fly fishing for trout and want to share that with other women,” Heather says. Heather currently holds the position of Western US Women’s/Diversity Ambassador for Trout Unlimited. Her passion for conservation, getting women involved in fly fishing for trout and enthusiasm to think outside the box is infectious. www.unitedwomenonthefly.com
Special thanks to the companies that support my efforts to share my fly fishing productions. I'm grateful for the opportunity to entertain and inspire anglers to get out and enjoy fly fishing around the world.

I am addicted to fly fishing and appreciate all that Heather does to help us learn and share and become better fly fishers. Thank you Heather and UWOTF and TUESDAY and Mr. Men for this great video.

Rarely do I relate to a video so much. I'm a nurse in a busy combined ICU (med/surg/neuro/trauma). Gotta take care of yourself so you can take care of others. Fly fishing is my escape and release as well. Few things in life as enjoyable as a day spent in the high country casting a line, a lot of fish to hand or not. Spent yesterday at 11 mile canyon throwing big terrestrials, had an absolute blast. Recharges the batteries.

    Hello Heather,
Thankyou for posting your fly fishing footage. I so enoy watching a lady who can fly cast and enjoy what she is doing. I sense your enjoyment and satisfaction in what you are doing. Also nice to read the comments of other ladies, who are living and enjoying every moment with you.
Being from the UK, my pinnacle is fishing the Llyn's, (Lakes) of North Wales. I love it there. The scenery and countryside, just nothing like it.
I'm fifty two now. Life changed a few years ago, through bereavement and personal illness, and trying to get back on track, to hooefully enjoy those wonderful experiences again.
I wish you love and health, and to able to continue doing what you obviously enjoy and excell at.
    Take care. Best wishes, Ian.

Lovely video, well made and I love the sentiment. In England it took me two days to catch my first fish on the fly. A wild brown on a nymph. I had a teacher and he taught me where to fish and how to strip the line. That was my advantage. Dry flies remain a difficult technique for me because of our rivers and layout. You guys have such amazing territory to venture into. I can't wait to get my ass over there and fish it. Thanks for the journey and bravo for your persistence.

Nice profile! Peaceful setting! I liked the way she handles the fish with respect after bringing it to the net. No holding the fish up out of the water and sticking it in the camera. Great philosophical approach to fly fishing.

I can totally relate. I’m not a nurse but when the struggles of life and work get me down, I know I can drive my Land Rover up to the mountains. I pack my rods, lunch box, 30 pack and worms and live it up. I’m a drug dealer. Work stinks sometimes. I have to meet demands from pushy clients and have all this scrutiny, like I’m always doing the wrong thing. A hook and worm fixes all of that.

Robbie Sellers I have had my best luck with a two fly setup of a big dry in front and a purple Haze tied on behind it, and fished through big, deep holes. I have also caught a huge cutt by drifting an elk hair Caddis under a bridge or by an undercutting bank. In the summer, there isn't much need to use nymphs for Cutthroat, so you can only use those dry fly setups if you want. That's what works best for me anyway.

Nope. I used to go fishing every summer. I caught and ate lots of fish over the years.
