Their is a Kindergarten Cop 2 but It is it's own story. It stars Dolph Lundgren.
Yes dude hasanabi frogs rise up
Greetings from Finland girl!!! You can see more of that girl in movies Beethoven and Beethoven 2 also directed by Ivan Reitman and there's also a sequel to this Starring Dolph Lundgren.. Idk who directed it or is it watchable??? "i'll be back" 😎
Watch the rest of the Transformers movies; especially Bumblebee movie.
@Mary Cherry: Detective O'Hara got food poisoning, hence why she kept throwing up. This was mentioned by film historians, Alexandra Heller-Nicholas and Josh Nelson on the recent Blu Ray/ 4K release from Kino Lorber.
As for this movie, it was my introduction to Arnold Schwarzenegger as an actor. It really helped that one of my all-time favorite directors Mr. Ivan Reitman directed this one. Really enjoyed the fish out of water story, and all of the things that the kids said that you would not expect to them to say.
Believe it or not but Arnold even admitted that this was one of the most enjoyable films he’s ever done. 30 years later he surprised the kids in a zoom interview they were doing on their memories of the film. Could tell he was having a blast
We’ll I’m glad he had fun with this movie
Dude he was so nice in that zoom interview too. He just wanted to know how they all were and what they’d been doing with their lives. There’ll never be another Arnie
And he has kept in touch with most of them over the years. That's so cool.
I saw that.
I saw that zoom call he did with them in Lockdown.
I hope he kept his promise and they all met up after the pandemic was over.
The principal, I think is an underrated actress.
yes she is. i know her mostly as a judge on "the practice".
Linda Hunt is also well known theatre actor and won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in The Year of Living Dangerously, which she starred with Mel Gibson and Sigourney Weaver. Also best known for her roles in The Practice and NCIS: Los Angeles.
My favorite role of hers was the villain's main enforcer in the movie If Looks Could Kill
👍yep . I liked her in " If looks could Kill" as well.
Don't forget, she played the housekeeper Mapes in the original Dune movie.
"Who is your daddy and what does he do?"
“He’s probably big” cracked me up.
Fun fact: The school in this movie was the inspiration for the school in the video game Silent Hill. They basically copied the school for the game, right down to the facade and the floor plan. They even replicated a lot of the notices on the bulletin boards. There. That's a thing that you know now. :)
Oh wow, it totally is!
O wow never caught that good eye. And I love silent hill
The other day I was watching a 30 year anniversary interview with six of the kids from Kindergarten Cop. About halfway through Arnold paid them a surprise visit. One of the kids, the one who was eating everyone's lunch in the movie, told the story of how he moved to San Luis Obispo, CA to be close to his girlfriend at the time and got an apartment there with two or three randos as roommates. One of the roommates asked him about his history and he told the guy he was the kid who barfed out the chips on Arnold Schwarzenegger in Kindergarten Cop. Then the roommate said that he was the kid who kicked Arnold's airplane seat in that movie.
Very cool i started watching that too after i saw this but im still in the middle of that and this. Was interesting the rewrites they did during production
That's crazy
@@AntoineRideaux-wd1zk🤡
I believe my favorite line is: YOUR NOT SO TOUGH WITHOUT YOUR CAR, ARE YA?
"It's Nawt uh TOOmuh"
I love this film hasn’t been “cancelled” yet cos that kid has a clearer sense of reality than most adults these days…
😂😂
when you get a chance you should watch "Twins"
Then rewatch pulp fiction after you realize both main characters from each movie care called Jules, and Vincent.
N, she should watch Two Moon Junction instead
@@leojones22 good call. she should watch that too.
The villainous grandmother who made such an impression on you is Carroll Baker who was a well respected star in the 50's and 60's. In her over 60 credits she was rarely the leading lady but more often the first co-star. She appears in a fair number of important big successful films from her era. Carroll Baker always delivered the perfect performance for the part she was playing. The first film she was in was in 1953 and she is still with us today, 92 years young.
Saw her in David Fincher’s The Game….
She starred in many giallos during her time in Italy. Saw almost all of them and I can say she was not only great but hot as well!
In this movie, the way she unloaded the clip from Arnold's gun was sooo gangsta! A real Ma Baker moment.
As an Oregonian, I appreciate how you not only knew how to correctly pronounce Oregon, but also pointed out how weird it was for him to incorrectly pronounce it.
Yes, a pleasant surprise!
To be fair, Arnold was literally the governor of California and he never learned to pronounce that correctly either. It's just Arnold.
The yell Arnold gets off right before he gets his ferret, the one where he is right outside the school, was my text notification for years.
I don't know about back then, but under current laws; teachers are mandatory reporters; that means if they suspect child abuse of any kind they are required by law to report it to the police or social services.
Definitely wasn't a law when I was in school but I finished in 1990. Not sure when the laws changed.
@@russellward4624 I would have to look that up, but I do know that teachers, school staff, Doctors, nurses, paramedics, mental health workers and social workers are mandatory reporters.
@erosson27 I have 1st hand experience. They suspected my dad was beating me, asked him about it. He threatened to kill them and that was the last they brought it up.
@@russellward4624 If a child turns up with bruises or injuries we have to keep a record of it. We also ask the parent how it happened.. In the UK
@@Nikos169 Yeah, our mandatory reporters take classes on detecting abuse, even subtle signs
Richard Tyson, who played the bad guy Cullen in this movie lives a couple miles away from me. My wife and I used to go to parties at his house in the late 90s when we went first dating.
You'd make an amazing kindergarten teacher.. but please don't leave us😂
Det. O’Hara is such a great character. Something so comforting about her.
She's fantastic. Smart, capable, understanding, and very supportive of her partner and fiance. We'd all be so lucky to have such a good co-worker and friend
Ja
Here is a fun fact: The little girl that talks spanish, is the same actress that plays the main female role in the movie Cloverfield.
35:12 In the hideout earlier, Dominic said he planned to go to the radio tower at night to set up "lasers" to protect his mom and him from "the bad people." Hearing the bad people were coming spurred him to act out that plan.
38:16 The idea was to create chaos and confusion as everyone was crowding together evacuating the building, and using the smoke as a cover, all so no one would notice him snatch Dominic. He wasn't expecting the class to be unified and prepared to identify a stranger.
31:49
The jail he is walking out of is actually the same jail they used in Goonies. And has not been an actual use for a very very long time.
Watching this after Pet Cemetery you see little Joseph totally different.
My Goodness, you've made me recall this traumatizing experience))
"No fair"
My niece is 6 years old in Kindergarten. Back in the day I subbed for a year so this movie is SO relatable. 😂 Kids are a handful but those little voices and the random things they say.. 💕
He's known for action, but his comedies areoff the chain! Twins, where he's pregnant, jingle all the way, others.
Twins was hilarious, but that's not the one he was pregnant - that was Junior (Danny DeVito was his costar in both).
@@aaronjl18 yeah, I put a comma there but should have made it clearer
@@philmullineaux5405 Got it - just a little confused - I loved Twins and Junior both! He really is a great comedic actor.
Plus you just forgot the name, but remember the primary plot point :)
Ivan Reitman was a pretty legendary producer/director/writer that passed a couple years ago. His son Jason Reitman is also a very good director that you should check out.
This movie was after "Twins", which was the first time that Arnold and Ivan worked together, as Arnold wanted to break out of his super action hero stereotype, and it was his first time doing comedy. You should see that one too.
I remember that I lived up the street from the actors who played Dominic (twins Christian and Joseph). They were a few years older, in my sister's grade. Joseph helped me take the training wheels of my bike because my dad (50) had gotten chicken pox and was hospitalized.
Absolutely do NOT, ever, under any circumstances, watch Kindergarten Cop 2. It is trash and you will lose brain cells.
Love your channel. Keep up the great work. :)
WOW Mary got the pronunciation of my home state perfect! Most folks that live here in the states get it wrong, but you nailed it.
Usually, the only thing about this movie that kids-now-adults remember about this movie is "it's NOT a toomah!" Great movie, though. I love a good "fish out of water" flick.
So many great Arnold one liners that was used for soundboards was born from this movie
Arnold prank calls are the best prank calls. 😂
@@lordtrigon1733 Indeed. Myles Bennett Dyson and AntiVenom9808 had the best ones in my opinion.
Mary would definitely adopt Emma if she got the chance 😂 she was adorable and funny
This is my favorite crime, suspense, romantic, comedy of all time, and you as always do such a great job of analyzing almost every aspect of the movie while thoroughly enjoying it.😊❤
Such a funny movie I couldn't recommend another Arnold movie called Twins with Danny Devito the two have great chemistry to make a very fun comedy
Agreed
Mary is killing it lately. Classic movies and she hasn't even been here. Lol. She's climbing mountains across the world, bungee jumping and shit. AI Mary? She's like Prince or 2Pac with years worth in the vault. Lmao ❤
@@user-wr9ej6xe4j shhh troll.
12:01 This line is way more funny than hearing a child swear.
13:21 Also, this scene is one of my favorites lol
And shows just how far the education system has slipped/failed over the generations…
These days many adults can’t figure it out…or just refuse to say it publicly cos it will piss off those who don’t agree with it…
Elementary is a US thing. Schools go 1st to 5th grade Elementary, 6th to 8th is Middle, and 9th through 12th is High School.
In the 70s/80s my city had "Jr High" instead of Middle School, grades 7-9. They changed it later to the way you described.
My Kindergarten teacher used a whistle too. I remember her standing like a sentinel or maybe a lifeguard with her sunglasses on, whistle resting on her lips and hands on her hips as she signaled to us recess was over or someone was being a disciplinary problem. I loved that teacher. She seemed so tall to me back then, but as I became older I realized she was not that big of a woman. She just knew how to have presence, I guess.
I’m happy you’re doing older movies, they are so much better than most these days.
I love that director Ivan Reitman's son Jason, himself a future director, has a small role as the boy making out in the library during the fire drill. 😅
The funny thing about Jason (currently working on the SNL 1975 film) is he never planned to be a filmmaker, despite having bit parts in his father's work. Jason wanted to be a doctor, but got depressed when he was in pre-med school. The film that convinced him to get back in the biz was Kevin Smith's first film, "Clerks". Smith was surprised it, being a garage band production, influenced Jason, but I always wondered what Ivan thought...🤔
Some towns don't have middle schools/junior high (6th, 7th, 8th grade), so those are included in elementary schools. The kids he caught making out were probably 13 or 14.
17:17 you know the line you want to hear it before watching the full vid.
"I'm the potty-poopah."
“Twins” (1988) is a comedy starring Arnold and Danny DeVito, I haven’t seen it in a long time, but I remember it being funny with a similar tone to Kindergarten Cop.
Kindergarten Cop and Twins are both two of Arnold's probably most famous comedies. Glad 😊 you liked Kindergarten Cop. 👍 -OG
😂😂😂 I declare a thumb war caught me off guard. Thanks for the laugh!
Oh and fun fact. The school in this movie was the inspiration for Midwich Elementary School in the game Silent Hill.
"Little Dominic" 😂
In his accent amuses me.
I'm a big Schwarzenegger fan, but this is probably my favorite of his films. Always a joy to watch.
my sister is a teacher she could only deal with kindergarten children for 3 years and then went up to teach higher grades. she said K kids are just too wild and dealing with their parents was just as bad and stressful as dealing the kids. she said the worst is kids who're aggressive and hit/injure the other well mannered kids. it just becomes a whole issue again with not only the children but the parents and it happens all the time , they're always be 1 - 2 kids who're just completely out of control and never listen , she said it was a complete nightmare.
That young man knows basic Biology well.
The ferret saved the day
If you ever have food poisoning, like I did one time, you’ll be limp as a wet wash cloth too. It’s a terrible experience.
Once upon a time it was not so unusual for a friendly kiss between genders out of endearment or respect like a female cop kissing her partner in his hospital bed after saving the day. When I saw this movie in the theater in the 80's the kiss was slightly old timey, now it's apparently weird, but in a lot of movies it's just a normal custom.
You should see Arnold Schwarzenegger in "Twins", it's one of my favorite movies by Ivan!
"Ha ha ha ha! Quiet!"
The look on you face LOL
Everytime Arnie was being stright, you were really paying attention to him LOL
Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in Total Recall the same year as this. Ivan Reitman also directed Ghostbusters, Twins and Ghostbusters 2. Other Arnold Schwarzenegger movies I recommend watching are Red Heat and Eraser
what about True Lies?
the Goonies and Short Circuit were also filmed in Astoria
I think the actress who plays Dominic mother is the same lady who played Brenda in Adventures in Babysitting. That poor girl had a rough time in the bus station.
Affirmative, it is the same actress.
Affirmative, it is the same actress.
Mary, here are a few movies to checkout.
Twins (Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny DeVito), Junior (Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny DeVito), Dave (Kevin Kline, Sigourney Weaver, with a cameo of Arnold playing himself). I've watched these many times (always enjoyable).
There are others, of course.
All directed by Ivan Reitman. I miss him.
I have a feeling that Mary was a little hell raiser 😂😅
One of my favorite films of all time. Absolutely hilarious, and the cast was just perfect from top to bottom. Especially Linda Hunt, who played the principal Miss Schlowski. Loved your reaction to this one!
Hi Mary!😊 Crisp lied about the $3 Million just to give people incentive to find his ex and his son. There was never any money. Kimble intended to stay and be a teacher at the end. Great reactions to this well made film, Mary!!!!🎬👏👏👏👏
Dominic was actually played by identical twin brothers.
During Covid Lockdown, actor, "kids", now adults had Zoom Reunion celebrating the movie. They were surprised when Arnold popped up on Zoom.
I never noticed until now, but when Mr. Kimble yelled at the kids to shut up and they all start crying, Zach (the little boy who was being abused by his father) was the only one who wasn't crying. It's as if to show that he's so used to being yelled at that he just accepts it.
On a lighter note, Edna Mode from "The Incredibles" always reminded me of the principal in this movie.
That scene dream when the guy comes to the window with the gun scared me watching this for the first time as kid. This is such humbling fantastic movie.✨️👏
Semi interesting movie fact: the house they used in Free Willy is only three blocks up the hill from the school, and the house they used in The Goonies is only three blocks in the other direction, from the school.
At their age the kids had no acting experience, so if you watch the kids you'll notice them looking off screen or you'll see their eyes moving because they were taking cues from the crew
Actress Linda Hunt, who plays the principal, starred in the Australian classic "The Year of Living Dangerously."
Mary, the villain is Mr. Crisp played to perfection by
Richard Tyson. You might check out Three O'clock High
with a younger Richard Tyson. Also, Arnold in Twins,
or his early movie Hercules In New York. And Conan series.
The other thing I thought was kinda cool was how his partner still stuck by his side, despite starting out getting sick at the beginning of the movie. Some police partners become close, lifelong friends bc of working so closely together. This was one of my favorite Arnold movies as a kid bc it was really different than any other movies he did. Rewatching it as an adult and I still love it.
I remember this horror movie. Kids really are the scariest monsters.
Skunks look HUGE compared to a ferret. People always say "oh it's the size of a cat" - but the hognose is 10lbs and a meter long of FLUFF.
True Lies is the best action-comedy with Arnold and directed by Cameron.
3:22
As an Astorian who was in 4th grade and had a half a second of screen time as an extra for this movie. I can appreciate you both pronouncing our state correctly and appreciating that other people were pronouncing it wrong.
( I was running out of the building site entrance)
((And no, it almost never snows in the winter there, or if it does it doesn't stay for long))
Back in the early 2000s, there were several prank calls made using a soundboard of Arnold’s movie quotes, including from this movie. “Who is your daddy, and what does he do?” was a very popular quote.
14:15 - In the States, there are both public and private schools, but both contain (generally) 2-3 components. In most areas, Elementary school is Kindergarten through 5th or 6th grade, high school is 10-12, and junior high schools (often, not always) fill the gap in between. Some districts are small enough that they're all encompassed in one or two physical buildings. I know in the UK its Primary and Secondary levels,, but these can also be either public or private.
There's another type of in-between school called a middle school. In this case elementary is 1-5, middle school is 6-8, then high school is 9-12.
And also a K-8 and then 9-12 high-school.
for real food poisoning is just like what she portrays and can last for several days. i wouldnt wish it upon my worst opp
"It's not a tumor!"
Classic quote
"Good morning Ms. Cherry"
The blonde actress in the black leather jacket she played Carrigan in Casper 1995 Film.
You need to watch Arnold's movie Twins next! It's his other classic comedy from that era.
Twins and Junior are also enjoyable to watch.
I personally liked Jingle All the Way… very entertaining movie
Glad you revisited this one. Also, you keep looking better and better every time I see your reviews.
When I was a kid, we called Primary to grade 6 Elementary school, 7 to 9 Junior high and 10 to 12 high school. Quite often, two of those categories were in the same building but since I moved to Alberta they do things a bit differently here. In some places, elementary only goes to grade 4, middle school goes to grade 8 and high school gets the rest. All three categories get their own school building which seems a bit wasteful when a bigger building could be built to house Elementary and Junior high or Junior high with High School.
23:03 - if this movie were made today, it'd be an active shooter drill
The principal knows he's an undercover police officer yet draws attention to him at the fair.
The kids bullying him is totally real. I have 3 kids, and my 6 and 4 year old are EXHAUSTING. I can tell you that the kids wearing you out is for real 😂 granted I'm still a lot like Mr Kimble in my house 😂😂
I had a migraine at work and a coworker asked if I’d seen a doctor and I used the “it’s not a tumor” line from the movie. Some weirdo got completely upset and started yelling at me that tumors were not a joke. He was kinda special. He was so pissed!
On YT, there are recent interviews with the actors who played the kids.
Arnold and his partner the redhead starred in another movie together with Danny Devito called Junior. That’s a really funny movie.
6:07 -- RE: "Days, Nights, I'm gonna hang out with you until the end of Time."; Fun Fact! Japanese director Akira Kurosawa released a film in 1949 with the English title "Stray Dog". Basic Premise: A buddy cop film with a Rookie who "loses" his pistol, and a seasoned Veteran Detective who helps him to recover it. The Rookie has to start on the trail of the Stray Dog by questioning a particular woman... and this is how he finally gets the information he'll need, by hanging around where he won't be wanted. The Old Ways remain the best, it seems. "Stray Dog" is excellent in most respects, especially since it provides a very human look into the lives of both detectives, as well as the lives of the people of post-War Japan.
There's something in these 90s movies that make me happy.
DERE ES NO BAATHROOM! 😂😂
I don't know why this movie hits home with me so much. Sure I love Arnold Schwarzenegger but it was a unique movie at the time and always stays with me whenever I re-watch it.
Your reactions to the kids was sweet 🥰
Another great video Mary. Keep up the great work!
one thing nobody ever mentions, the score in this movie is phenomenal.
Mary I think you would make a perfect Kindergarten teacher. But UA-cam is your life you've been my favorite reaction youtuber for almost 4 years and it won't be the same without you on here and I would miss my favorite reaction UA-camr forever. But please don't leave UA-cam anytime soon.🙏❤
Ah. The nostalgia of this movie 😊
Another movie around this time that has similar vibes is Three Fugitives.
Martin Short & Nick Nolte 😎
When I was about 13 years old I used to use an Arnold Schwarzenegger soundboard online to prank call people and some of the lines were from this movie 🤣🤣
I love the choice of movies you're picking, there's some of my favorite movies of all time, Ace Ventura, Bruce Almighty, and now this. Even though it was like a year ago or maybe not even that I still loved your Sylvester Stallone era. Keep up the amazing work👍
When I was a teenager I was working for a painter painting at a summer camp. When that was done one of the counselors at the camp asked me if I wanted to be a counselor. I accepted and I was assigned a group of kids. I kind of used the Arnold approach and made sure the kids knew I was in charge. All the other counselors had trouble with their kids not listening. They couldn't figure out my secret. It was just to give the kids an authority figure and then they would listen to that figure. It's what kids need and what they want.
I'll always associate this film with some of the internet's first "sound board pranks" and Arnold's clips from this film are pure gold, "I'm detective, John Kimball!" Drunk Caller, "Your a Detector John Kimball?"
Him being handed the whistle was the symbol of him taking back over the class. Now weather he got a forced retirement from the Bullet wounds, weather he retired because he took down the guy he wanted to so he was done, or if he was just coming back to teach while recovering from all his wounds and will eventually be a cop again. But with two bullet wounds in all honesty he probably got the either retirement or desk job choice.
