The performance of Christoph Waltz as Colonel Hans Landa, is one of the greatests ever. What an amazing character. Terrific, classy and smart as hell.
That's the first time I saw him in this movie and I said to myslef this guy is going to become worldwide famous!
He just forgot one little detail ...
We are spanish, but since this film, in my family we always use BradPitt's "arrivederci" 😂😂
Haha that's hilarious. I've walked into work in the morning and gone "Bornjouurrrnoee!!!"
😂😂😂
I do this alllll the time and no one ever gets it!!
My impression of Landa was like a cat who likes to play with their food.
23:32 "Is there a reason for that?" God bless her heart 😂
I can't tell you how many times I seen this movie and I never realized till not that long ago, that the very first German you see being scalped, was Quinton Tarantino himself. I did know that it was Tarantino's hands that were being used to strangle Bridgette Von Hammersmark (however you spell that), because Christoph Waltz didn't feel comfortable using the amount of pressure applied to the strangle hold that Tarantino wanted. So Tarantino had to do it himself.
Hi guys! Thank you both for watching this film. Although a lot or exaggeration is put in like all Quentin Tarantino films (as well as endings of fantasy), this film is particular is really special to a lot of Jewish people. I am a Jewish former refugee from Ukraine, but more specifically the former USSR. My family members experienced these kinds of "roundups" and village massacres - it was very common during the Holocaust in the USSR.
The reason why this film is so special is that often in western media, the portrayel of Jewish characters in WW2/Holocaust films are used often as side characters to their own stories. They are often also only constantly focused on our trauma, or often focused on solely non Jewish characters who save them (not that those stories should not be told, but it's important to also focus on Jewish characters in this point of history as well).
While the history of what happened is crucially important, it's also rare to see a WW2 film showing Holocaust survivors as well rounded characters beyond their trauma. Having the portrayel of Shoshanna is really valuable to witness and I am so happy you got to see this film
"What's that he's sniffing?"
That is "snuff." It is a form of tobacco that you snort into your nose like cocaine and it slowly slides down the back of your throat giving you an intense rush of nicotine. It fell out of popularity by the early 20th century. The word "snuffbox" is still a apart of our vocabulary. It refers to a small box, usually made of silver that originally contained snuff but can now be re-used for a variety of purposes.
„Schnupf“ is still very popular in Switzerland (also southern Germany and Austria i guess). For example carpenters (or woodworkers in general) use it as part of Tradition and Folklore. I used it during my time in the Swiss Army where it’s very popular too.
Hands down one of the greatest openings of all time 🔥
🔥🔥 CHRISTOPH WALTZ and MICHAEL FASSBENDER were incredible and absolutely smoking in this! They had relatively short scenes but, oh, so memorable! Most of us stateside had never heard of them before then but by the end of INGLOURIOUS BASTARDS (2009) we knew they were going to be big stars!
I love that for every other death in the film, Quýnh averted her eyes, but when it came to Hitler getting absolutely annihilated, she was wide eyed and gleeful.
I could go on for ages about any of Tarantino's movies, but if I *had* to rank them this one definitely goes higher on the list.
Landa is not obsessed with dairy. The cream topping he makes Shoshanna eat is made with pork fat which is against her religion. He is toying with her. And he checks the pulse of every woman he meets. Watch carefully.
Not quite. Whipped Cream does not ever contain pork fat.
Yeah you make the same comment on every reaction. U don’t even know if she keeps kosher. Stop it
@@citizenghosttown During WW2, things like whipped cream were often made with animal lard due to shortages and rationing. That said, I agree that this is a Reddit-brained take and not an intentional detail.
@@hettbeansSure, but lard was rationed too. And if a Jew is posing as a non-Jewish French woman in occuped France, she's obviously not adhering to Kashrut (dietary laws).
@@anthonyguadagnino2681 Yup. No Jew who is posing as a gentile under Nazi occupation is keeping kosher.
Aldo was snorting snuff, which is a concentrated form of tobacco.
1:40 That song is titled "The Green Leaves of Summer" which was originally made for John Wayne's 1960 "The Alamo". That's my favorite movie and I think at the time it was one of the most expensive movies and had one of the biggest movie sets in North america. I highly recommend reacting to it since you 2 would be the first in all of UA-cam.
When Landa enters the house in the opening scene, he's subtly checking the pulses on the wrists of the girls.
That's a _bit_ of a stretch. It would tell him nothing other than them being scared and nervous, which they would be regardless of the presence of the Dreyfuses.
@axelord4ever he had no reason to grab their wrists otherwise.
😅 Except Hannibal Lecter, everyone else's pulse would be irregular if the Gestapo suddenly dropped in to see you.
@@pohanahawaii true
@@axelord4ever You better check yourself. He does it to each of the woman through the movie. Also checks the pulse of Shoshanna at the restaurant.
21:49 he knew exactly who she was.
It's also why he orders the strudel and the cream for her.
Because back then the pastry was made with pig lard, they used the fat to create the pastry.
And jews are not allowed to eat that.
And ofc the milk and the cream to link back to her origin.
He knew who she was and was completely ffin with her
I literally just watched another reactor do this movie yesterday, but when I saw you two did this, I HAD to check it out immediately
Great Reaction !! Wen is a Rock Star !!! Happy New Year from Detroit
Christoph Waltz was stellar as Hans Landa. Brad Pitt as Aldo Raine was also just great.
Sweet! This New Years Day gives glorious spoils, and this is yet another Cinematic Treat. Cheers & Happy New Year to Nick, Quỳnh, and everyone out there who thinks that the Tarantino-Verse might be preferable to the one we're currently living in. 🥃
This whole first scene is about making you feel as uncomfortable as possible, and through brilliant writing and a singular performance by Christoph Waltz, it succeeds brilliantly.
12:56 Holy motherforking shirtballs, Quỳnh is the first Reactor to catch that (that I've seen). Good job, M'Lady. (The Strain was awesome).
When Zoller walks up the cinema stairs, the music is an excerpt from the Clint Eastwood movie "Kelly's Heroes" when he and his comrades walk into a standoff with a german Tiger tank.
When Landa speaks with Miss von Hammersmark about her mountain climbing accident he speaks even with an austrian accent.
Anybody noticed the english officer who sends the commandos in is Michael Myers of Austin Powers and Wayne's World fame?
The guy whose scalp is being shown cut for the first time is Quentin Tarantino actually.
Not sure you read these but the stuff Brad Pitt's character keeps sniffing up his nose is Snuff, a crystalized form of tobacco. You can still get it today although not a lot of people use it.
Tarantino took a little artistic license with the solider wearing his hat/cover in front of Hitler. That would never happen. Both the US and German military back then and to this day do not wear their hat indoors. But it made for a great reveal.
You guys are the best reactors thanks!
They're better than Fukushima at least
"I expect some violence." 👀
Also... When they started taking, Landa says "I've exhausted my French" because he already knew they were under the floor and didn't want to tip them off.
That "attendez la crème" is _so_ sinister sounding coming from him.
52:52 his only genuine grief for herman was 😂😢😂😅
Nick, someone just released a video about the tavern scene and broke down all the crazy little details that the director chose and the reasoning behind them. I highly recommend it and it's like 20+ mins. "How THIS Scene Became a Modern Masterpiece" 5M views in 2 months. Not in the reaction, but at 9:59 when the person gets scalped on screen, that's the director's cameo.
Quỳnh, when is your makeup tutorial dropping haha 🤗 you look great
Thank you both for this ! It would Not be a New Years Day without a Quientin Tarantino film.... he is a genuine genius at making films. Your reactions and comments here has started my New Years Day with a huge smile . Now Not every actor in a Tarantino film is in all of them but the actors he does have in most are brilliant at giving exactly what Tarantino is asking for in every scene . This is a great film and I appreciate everything you both bring to this .
I do HOPE that you both will give reactions and comments for Quientin Tarantino's film Death Proof ~2007. That is my favorite Tarantino film.... oddly enough when Quientin was asked what his least favorite film of his is he mentioned Death Proof . I can not imagine why. To be honest I would have to say that Death Proof is really equal a favorite as Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.... they are my equal favorites for very different reasons. Your reactions here are above Par .
Thank you for this and I Hope you both have an Awesome 2025 🥰😻🥳
Hello Nick & Quynh!😊 You two make a lovely couple!😉 Happy New Year!🥳 The British officer at headquarters was Mike Myers.😉 The "SS" or Schutzstaffel had a reputation of being the more dangerous of German soldiers. They were known for their black uniforms. I noticed John Dykstra did the special effects for this film. He is well known for sci-fi and horror films. Great reactions to this Tarantino film with an alternate reality ending, Guys!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
We immediately know what scene Quynh is reacting to in the intro 😂😭
you HAVE to watch Django Unchained by tarentino, it's amazing
Nah, there’s no such thing as overkill for Hitler.
One of my top 5 movies of all time.
He keeps grabbing people, because he is checking their pulse.
Fun fact: the bear jew was supposed to be Adam Sandler, but he was too busy on antoher project so he asked Eli Roth to fill in for him.
I can't picture Adam Sandler as a nazi killer lol
The character fits Eli Roth like a glove
It's not a coincidence that he reminds you of the screaming guy in "V". Sutler was deliberately designed to be a Hitler analogue. Starting with the name.
Here's a fun one:
In the basement rendezvous scene, there's several references to the Old Shatterhand series of books, by Karl May.
Karl May was an insane former conman who wrote a bunch of Westerns, despite having never set foot in the States, and later in his life claimed that he based the stories on his own exploits.
Adolf H was a huge fan of these books, and encouraged his military officers to read them, to base their strategy on.
I reiterate that the author of those books was a total conman who had no real experience to base his ridiculous and unrealistic plots upon.
So yeah. Hitler was a doofus.
There's something I always was curious about: in the Churchill/Mike Myers/Hickox scene, the actors are SO FAR APART from each other. Shots of Churchill and Mike Myers (sorry, can't remember his character's name), the camera is like 50 feet away. They're all holding this conversation and they're all at like opposite ends of the room. It's clearly a deliberate choice Tarantino made, but I don't get what it means. Any thoughts?
“Little overkill on Hitler”
No such thing
My favorite Tarantino film is Django unchained
14:22 That's snuff, powdered tobacco. It's not that common anymore. Was out partying at a German festival, drinking with some Germans we just met, when one of them saw one of the guy's Copenhagen can and asked to try it. He took a small pinch and snorted it just like Lt. Raines in the movie. It does say "snuff" on the can and Germany didn't have dipping snuff.
Let’s gooooo i think this one is in my top 3
I´m just here to watch the reaction to that italian scene 😀
the end song of the movie is a tarantella (tarantula). I love this song because you can "hear" the spider crawling. You two should check out Godfather 1 and 2,. They are both overt 50 yrs old but seem like they could have been made yesterday,.
Happy New Year!..✌️❤️❤️.
i sometimes wish shoshanna had been able to confront hans face to face even though it looks like he may know who she is.because he's being a traitor at the time he doesn't even get to see or experiance her revenge.
ATTENDEZ LA CREME
This movie moved a hair past Pulp Fiction.
Top tier tension in almost every scene masterfully done by QT.
And Hans Landa, what can you say? The evil you hated to love and loved to hate.
Well deserved Oscar for Christoph Waltz
This is QT's best film.
You should react to TO HELL AND BACK it's about Audie Murphy the most decorated American soldier of WW2. After the war Audie became a Hollywood movie star making over 70 movie's 1 of them being TO HELL AND BACK. Audie Murphy play's himself in his own story on how he won the medal of honor.
I think Quynh will really like Jackie Brown - looking forward to that one. Great reaction guys , thanks!
Happy New Year’s Nick. How about some more Buffy content?
I'd like to recommend the Boondocks Saints. And Boondocks Saints : All Saints Day
Yes, he is the guy in "The Strain"
Awesome!
If you enjoy Brad Pitt with an accent there is one movie you simply must watch. Snatch.
Now that you watched this you have to watch Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
This movie is inspired by true events. Highly inflated of course cause lets face it it's Tarantino that fooled no one but still an amazing real story! The real Bastards infiltrated into a very important town where they sabotaged the trains which transported weapons, manipulated the guards or soldiers into telling them inside info by pretending they were having a nice time drinking and gossiping and when the allied army got to that town the Nazi commander was waiting for them at the entrance bridge to relinquish his gun because the Bastards had crippled the German capabilities and will to fight in that town so badly that they had no choice but to surrender without a fight.
Baby's big day out is a funny movieI think you would both love it.
my favority movie with Pulp Fiction. Happy eve years. !
'bout time."
Do The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare next guys
have her watch django christoph waltz is insanely good.
Cream on a pastry like that is not kosher, Landa knew she was a Jew, he was toying with her.
This. He knew who she was.
Kosher is not an issue even for us religious orthodox Jews when it is to save your life. There are only 3 laws that we can't break to save our lives in such a situation and laws of kashrut isn't one of them.
@ that’s really cool but it’s not the point at all
No way, besides he ordered her milk with the strudel. He never saw her face and her hair is blonde now. He's just pressing her bc of all the high value targets that will be there.
@@Mini_Hayley wouldn't even bat an eyelid in that situation if it was me and it was bacon. I mean i would be freaking out about the rest of the situation but the fact that it is pig which I as a religious Jew have never eaten in my life wouldn't bother me at all. I am prohibited from not eating pig in that situation.
Please react to Reservoir dogs and Django unchained also 😢
He said that it's on patreon and it'll be on UA-cam next week 🙄
It'll be on UA-cam next week 🙄
Watch karate kid 2010 for the new karate kid coming up
Checkout ready or not

14:29 he is sniffing powdered tobacco.
He was sniffing Snuff, it’s tobacco kinda powder stuff,
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is long, but is definitely a good watch for you Tarantino list
It’s definitely near the top of my favorite Tarantino films!
There are those who will mention the cream topping Shoshana was eating on her dessert was made with pork fat, FFS. This is, of course, absurd.
Can you react marvel movies more ? I love watching you both reaction 😊
Please react to Oliver Stone films.

There is no CONGRESSIONAL medal of honor.
Officially it is called the Medal of Honor but can be called the Congressional Medal of Honor. Per Wikipedia.
@keithjohnson8866 yes, it is "often referred to" as the congressional medal of honor. It is not THE congressional medal of honor. It is an improper term. It is only the medal of honor.
Well given how much money Landa likely got for his part in killing Hitler. It wouldn't be unlikely that he could hide the scar with plastic surgery, which was invented largely to help disfigured soldiers from WW1. It wasn't widely known, that Aldo would know about it when he was carving Swastikas into men's foreheads. My guess is Landa would wear a hat for a good portion of his life. Then find a plastic surgeon willing to hide the scar on his foreheads. Though I still think he'd be somewhat humbled by the experience. It would probably take the joy out of his victory of having gotten away with his warcrimes and his little patch of land on Nantucket Island. I doubt he'd be as cocky as he was during his service in the SS.
nick is winning with his gf gahhhhhh
The Handwriting is Indeed, Tarantino's
