• Wait 30 seconds to 1 minute after lighting fire starter to ensure fire starter is fully lit.
Note - For a faster startup, we recommend using 2 of our fi re starters.

((PRE-SEASON))
Pre-seasoning will rid your grill of chemicals and oils leftover by the manufacturing process, allowing
them to burn off. PRE-SEASON GRILL PRIOR TO FIRST USE.
1. Start grill following the START-UP instructions and set the temperature to medium.
2. Set the temperature to medium and burn one hopper full.
3. Shut down the grill following the SHUTDOWN instructions.

5. Using a napkin or cloth, rub a light coat of cooking oil on the charcoal grate and the inside of the grill lid,
manifold, and body.
6. Repeat steps 2-6.
Frequent seasoning prevents rusting. If rusting occurs, clean with a steel brush, apply vegetable
shortening and heat as indicated above.
((RELOAD))
If it is necessary to refill the hopper while cooking, follow the safe reloading instructions below.
Adding charcoal:
1. Turn the control knob to off before opening the hopper lid.

Hey Tommy, you’ve answered all my questions and the fact you’re replacing your go to grill with this one says all I need to know awesome job🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍
Glad I could help
Tommy, you're killing me brother! I just bought a Zgrills 7002c2e 4 weeks ago. It's my first pellet grill and I'm having a blast cooking all kinds of firsts on it from chicken hindquarters- a 10lbs Easter Ham. And now you've got me wanting one of these for the camper 🔥
lol.... You gotta love that Z....
Morning Tommy. I have the 560 and 1050. I do believe I will be adding this to my lineup. Great review and awesome cooks.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I do...
Nice review! Appreciated the cleaning discussion.
I ordered one :)
Very in-depth review Tommy. I think you sold me on one of these pits for tailgating
Glad I could help
Awesome review Tommy! Awesome cooks on that portable grill! All around it looks like a great buy!!!👍👊🍻
Thanks 👍
Love the review…..awesome grill……gotta have! Cheers!!!
Yes you do. lol
Nice review. I am in the market for a new portable grill for tailgating. You definitely put this one through the paces. Looks like a winner
Glad it was helpful!
Great review Tommy I think you nailed it on the review if anyone had any questions im pretty sure you covered it I just love how many ways this grill could be used it makes a lot of sense cheers 🍺🔥👍
Much appreciated!
Thanks for this Tommy. New subscriber. I just got mine delivered and assembled. Going to burn in and season tomorrow. Now I just wish one of you Masterbuilt wizards could find a cast iron grate for it!
Have you seen this...ua-cam.com/video/kfqj-EpfFJo/v-deo.html
Super review. You hit all the topics. It is a great grill now just a matter of finding a spot for it at home . LOL always enjoy you videos and cooks. Hope i win the torch!
Right on John. As for me it'll go deck side!!
I think you answered everything for me and on that review Tommy I will be acquiring me one, looks like it will fit the bill 👍
Glad I could help
I'm sold ... as soon as I see one in my area i'm buying it ... you da man Tommy
I would!!!
A very good review on this. Pretty amazing use time for 4 AA batteries. Not bad at all. Cheers, Tommy! ✌️
Totally agree
Awesome review! 👏😎🍻
Cheers!!!
Seems like a nice grill Tommy. I like what you have cooked on it so far. As far as the batteries go... I agree with you. Take care!
Right on
Great review. If it was only at home, I'd get the stand, but for out on the road camping, the side tables that don't collapse might be a genuine pita for packing. Looks like a good compromise for size and function. Appreciate it!
Kim. Agreed. Id get it solo for camping and set it up anywhere. Plus @200 its a no-brainer!
Thank you for this review. 2 questions. How long does the cook last on a full hopper?
Also any where to get a cast iron grill grate ?
Thank you in advance
Tommy if you say it's a buy, it's bought. Thanks my man.
Its a buy!!!!!! Cheers!
Nice review Tommy
Thanks 👍
Spot on review Tommy!! I bought one after watching your first video and I absolutely love it! I have the MB 1050, but for all the reasons you stated my MB portable is my go to grill and griddle using the Lodge Griddle. Took me a few times to figure out how to easily raise and collapse it but got it handled now.
Do you recommend initially turning the temp gauge up to high and backing it off just before temp is reached or starting lower and working up?
Thanks again for all of your great videos, Tommy! They really help and are fun to watch!
See you Sunday at 6!
You can work the temp knob either way. At first, because I knew the 20 was getting me 250f. But the last cook i just turned it full and then backed it down! See you Sunday!
@@thegalleryBBQ thanks Tommy!
I'd get one if I was in the market for a portable grill. Nice job!
Thanks! 👍Spike!!!!!!
Hey Tommy here’s a MOD you might want to do. I went to my local Ace Hardware and bought some 22 gage sheet metal ( non-galvanized) and made a couple of tents for each end of the heat transfer tunnel. I then pop riveted the left side to the box that holds the temp gage and pop riveted the right side to the firebox creating something like what the gravity fed 800 has.
Benefit: no more gaps on either end. Eliminating the hot spots on either end. Also no direct heat hitting the temp gage.
Drawback: I now have to remove the grate before i can remove the firebox.
That sounds pretty awesome.
Nice review. I'm not a camper but if I, was you can bet I'd own this.
You and me both!
Great review.
Mike. Thanks brother!
Hey Thomas, your reviews and the reasons you gave for making this your new daily driver, convinced me to pull the trigger and get one of these. It is an awesome grill in that form factor! I have had and used a couple of inexpensive portable charcoal grills over the last couple of decades or so, and while I like them for what they are (and they cost 1/10 of this unit) this thing is in a whole other league! I could quibble about a few design decisions, but on the whole it is amazing. One thing though, and perhaps my impressions will change as I get used to cooking with this thing: It can't change the laws of physics, and so the temperature control is not as simple as turning the knob. When you first light charcoal it is hot AF. If you light it in a chimney, the walls of the chimney will be cherry red, But after a bit, it is still hot but nowhere near that initial temperature. Same with this pit. If you think you can cook some vegetables at 350F then just turn the knob 20 minutes later and get this up to steak-searing temperature, it's just not going to happen. Now if you shut down the fan, added new charcoal to the hopper, waited for it to light, turned the fan back on, etc, it would work but your veggies will get cold ( or burned if you leave them on). My point is that even with this unit you need to pay attention to your fire and not expect that twisting the dial will get it to come back up to 500F after it has been sitting at 350F for a while.
Bill. Excellent post. Enjoy!
@@thegalleryBBQ Hey Tommy, I'm not sure why I feel compelled to report back to you, except your review kind of clinched the deal for me and convinced me to buy this unit. Anyway tonight I did what this thing is designed to do. Yesterday I bought a small (1.5 lb) sirloin roast, and last night I seasoned it up and wrapped it up and left it in the fridge overnight, and this evening after work I sparked up the MasterBuilt portable with about 1/3 hopper of lump charcoal and dialed it up to 250F. Then I added some more charcoal and a piece of cherry hardwood. As expected it overshot a bit (I'm still learning my way around this pit) but I got it to stabilize around 250 and put the little roast in (used my Meater thermometer, luckily I am able to put my tablet indoors but very close to the pit). I replenished charcoal and wood as necessary, but this little roast wasn't going to take long anywa.. Pulled it off when it was about 130F internal, cranked up the fan and brushed the meat with bbq sauce, and put it back on at about 300F and turned it to bake on the sauce, then took it off for real. (As an experiment I left the fan on and cranked with less than 1/2 full hopper, and it got up to about 350. If I had added some charcoal I have no doubt it would have got to 500 PDQ.) After I let the meat rest for a bit it was tender, juicy, and delicious. Great smoke flavor! This was incredibly easy and had an outstanding result. I am so glad I bought this thing!
@@user-uv4cx9de8x That's amazing Bill and I'm so grateful you took the time to write all that. Cheers brother!
The Black Mollie.
Brilliant.
You both deserve it.
The London Broil with the Carnivore Black is on the menu for tomorrow.
JT
Enjoy brother and dont forget my Sunday live show!! Hope to see you there!
Hey Tommy, my portable charcoal grill will be the same as for you. My daily driver for cooks since it's just my wife and I until family comes over on Sundays. Can't wait for mine to arrive and already reached out to Anthony for some more firecups and black Mollie's.
Curtis. Awesome. You'll love the black mollies! Keep me posted!
The fact that this has become your daily driver says it all👍😊
Thanks Bobbi and hope to see you Sunday night on the live!
Great day on the MB Portable Charcoal grill!
I wanted a juicy cheeseburger at 3 pm. Fired this great grill up, handful of charcoal and 3:30 enjoying a juicy medium rare Cheeseburger with full charcoal flavor!
At 6 pm my wife says how about a smash burger? Fired it up with Lodge griddle on it and eating tasty smash burgers at 6:40!
In addition to taste and ease of use, this grill is FUN to cook on !
Terry that sounds so awesome. Yep. I agree. This grill is fun and cheap to run!!!
After I got my Master built 800 I seen this and thought it would be perfect for camping and for when I work away, which I do a lot! And now I’m definitely sold on one. Do you think LLS customs would make any modifications for that?
Prolly not. What is it your looking for?
Hello my friend I was wondering I know you mentioned the cleaning of the grill was in the dishwasher. I don’t have one so I was wondering if you can show a step by step process on proper cleaning of the grill. What cleaning supplies I can uses etc etc. is there a way to get the black color off of the metals? Thanks so much really hope to hear from you. Thanks so much have a blessed day
Maybe in the future. Thanks for watching
Can you put charcoal in the bottom of the grill ? Or do you have to use that side container all the time ?
Hey Tommy. Not sure if I missed something, but I can’t find the link for the black mollies. Is there a website I can go to?
Those are no longer made. Cheers
I wonder if you couldn't splice the wire and use some sort of terminal connector to allow you to remove the one part for cleaning.
Great vid Tommy. Have you run lump in it yet?
I have not!
Cool coal cooker there. I just bought a 5 burner ultimate pitboss. Now I have to buy the 800! Hope you get one to review
Gravity Series® 800 Digital Charcoal Griddle + Grill + Smoke
Butch I have many 800 vids on my channel. That said. Ive got a brand new 1050 in the garage waiting for my assembly and amazing cooks!!! If you have any questions gallerybbq@gmail.com
Damn, 2 years ago, your show sold me on the MB 540. I love the flavor it gives and the versatility at home. I've looked at a Coleman portable for camping and such, but now I need to relook that. How does this do with longer smokes or reverse sear? Has Masterbuilt thought of adding a griddle top yet?
Joe have you seen these vids. ua-cam.com/video/dFPZhpCacP8/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/tHop8HlLnOs/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/kfqj-EpfFJo/v-deo.html
Joe. I love this little sucker!
Hey Tommy...do you have a video of a reverse seared ribeye on this? I searched a bit but didnt find it
I do not! Sounds awesome though!
Hi Tommy, Been a subscriber since the 560 days,, I'm about ready to pull the trigger on one of these.. How do you like it after almost a year ? Is it still your daily driver? Thanks !!!!!!
I love it....
Good morning brother☕
Good Morning my brother! Enjoy your weekend!
Would you recommend putting charcoal on the left so it heats directly?
Good question that i dont have an answer for-
Great video but was wondering how well will it work with rechargeable batteries. If it accepts rechargeable batteries that would be fantastic.
Thank you! Unfortunately ive never tasted that. Cheers
Great video! Could I hook a fireboard up to this like I do my 1050?
Yes you can!
@@thegalleryBBQ oh man this might seal the deal. I want something to travel with but also to do quick cooks at home not using all the charcoal necessary to get the 1050 going. But I wanted my secondary unit to have the fan run by the fireboard. In addition I would think running off the fireboard would be a much better solution than having to replace the AA batteries. Thanks for the info!
@@thunt1033 Tim. To be sure ask over at my facebook group. I mean it should do what you want but since ive not tried it am not 100% sure

For all the info
I just scored on one for 209$ total

Where can I get the starter briquettes?
Thank you so much
Great price. You can just use regular starters as they all work well. Enjoy!
@@thegalleryBBQ another question
I’d like to know
What charcoal do you prefer to use?
Thank you for replying appreciate it so much
@@kingwrecker With as much as I cook/smoke I use knigsford blue bag from HD or Lowes.
I don't know if I asked this or not but what size face is the gauge for this. I was going to replace mine . Thanks
2" seems to work!
Does the fan kick off when open lid the gravity?
It does not. Only when the temp starts to drop!
Can you use woodchucks to smoke with
small... or chips.
Also.. you might want to know I used that small solar powered 12v battery I got off Amazon. Works perfect. I can provide links if you want. I did 1.5hrs last night and never dropped a bar
Sure. Send along some links!
What's the link for the solar battery?
Thank you
The only 'gasser' I have is a Weber Q2000 that goes to Florida with us
I do love that Q......
That wire conmects to the temp sensor, wish there was an easy way to remove so you could do better cleaning
Oklahoma Joe's Rambler portable charcoal grill vs Masterbuilt Portable charcoal grill.
Which grill between the two grills do you like better and why???
Sorry Steven Ive never used that pit!! That said. I love this Masterbuilt!
@@thegalleryBBQ there's no fan with the OKLAHOMA Joe's Rambler grill but it gets great reviews
The price is good also, the only thing I can find is, it only comes in black, I think we need more colors in grilling.
Agreed. I love what say Weber does with the colors!!
Can you smoke a full packer brisket on this?
no....
Tommy, you mentioned you dropped a griddle on here.
Funny, I have the 1050 and an antique cast iron griddle that covers the entire major cooking area.
I cook Pancakes on it.
Set the thing for 350 degrees, and then about 30 seconds later, open up for the flip.
Another 30 seconds, all done.
And Dad doesn't have to miss breakfast.
A whole family stack of pancakes in one flip.
It is awesome.
And if you think I am crazy for barbequing my pancakes...
Join the crowd that hasn't tried it.
Thanks!
Mark
Sup. That sounds killer.
💯👍
My man Doublej.... Hope to see you Sunday night!
Hi Sir, sorry to bother you once more 😬...Doing a crash course on your website about gravity smokers - MB....I noticed on the internet that there can be some issues with the MB concerning firebox etc , high heat and damaging....and because it is a quite affordable BBQ, quality is not high end. Which is normal, i can understand this..therefore a lot of guys recommend mods to extend the life span of the MT. But, to get these parts to Europe is quite expensive . Everything ( BBQ + mods) will cost me about 2K. I do think i will get the MB, but would it be possible to give a - for you as an "expert in my eyes" 1-2 competitors for the MB in the 2K price range...?Because if i get into trouble here, it will maybe not be easy to get the problem fixed overseas. just to see if there could be a dealer in Europe , that's why. 🙏🙏Dirk 🇧🇪
Hi Dirk. Some have had problems. Most however haven't. The only problem I had was a power cord. Its a great pit!
@@thegalleryBBQ thx Sir. Would it ne possible to know already when you're going to post a video about your "essential" mods ? 🙏🇧🇪dirk "rough idea"

Why not just buy lithium AA batteries. Rechargeable and have 2-3 sets. Perfect for camping and less battery waist. Who needs a battery pack?
Of course
