The label "ice queen" is sadly ironic because her childlike charm and evident vulnerability are ice-melting. That vulnerability is part of what made her vocal artistry so effective. If it were mere iciness it wouldn't speak to so many of us, but the hurt child's voice is universal. Her childhood was emblematic of the tragedy of post-war Germany, her haunting voice the war orphan's. Yet, having met her, what struck me most was her propensity for laughter - that wonderfully deep "ho-ho-ho". She breaks my heart and makes me smile. Never another.
People commenting on her looks seem to forget that this is after 20 years of a heroin addiction and the rock and roll lifestyle. She was hopelessly post war german. A tragic figure as Kinski was. Grown up in the claustrophobic world of Wirtschaftswunder. Precisely representing the dark side of it. Full of desperation and emptiness. Listening to her is a bad trip back to one's own childhood. Fellini casted her for La Dolce Vita, and he knew why.
True. Even if Kinski was a real jerk, abusing his own daughter. She's no angel and got a drug addiction on to her son, which is criminal. However, the music she wrote and performed makes up a bit for that. It was unwordly beautiful

From time to time i get obsessed by her. Looking after vids and reads articles and all I can come over. Its something almost alien alike with her. I found this time a radio article about her, (Sweden) when they talked about a swedish photographer Eva Rydling, they lived togheter at some point in France, Nico was togheter with a france director and Eva too. This directors was friends. Eva Rydling became a famous photographer too. She took a photo of Nico where she wanted her to wearing red lipstick 💄. She first refused, but she did took it because Eva said if she didn't she wouldn't take that photo. So nico did, and after she really liked the photo. She have long red hair in the photo. they was interviewed Eva at the radio and she told them that Nico could go out a getting food that last for many days, and she cooked so good food to them all. But she also said things the photographer didn't like. Like when Evas son was crying etc she said "give him some heroin so he calms down" . Eva said she couldn't stand her when she used Heroin. But she loved her music.
She was beautiful when she was young. I admired her rebellious ways as a woman and a musician. I think she believed that being a junkie was so rock n roll. Which is a shame, especially for her son, as he got dragged into that lifestyle from the beginning. She did try and sort her health out before she died. Did she take heroin to look chic? She obviously got into the dark side of life. Her songs are honest and interesting, but her honesty didn't need heroin.
In 1985 I had the luck to be the stage coordinator/security/backstage service and conversation partner on a gig in Aalborg, Denmark. If You think she looks worn in this video, I am glad You didn't see Her, like I got to see her when she arrived. When She went onstage She was all there though. In the break, and after the show, s She was an absolute delight to talk to, and was even very friendly to a journalist from a minor local radiostation. So, I can honestly brag about having had a hug from Nico
She doesn't look that bad here, she was 47 and the light is not flattering at all. I saw her live in Belgrade 1985 and 1987, she was touring a lot before she died. And was clean last 2 years of her life.
it's the mystery of life, writers have been writing about it for 2000+ years now and we haven't been able to ever figure out (or get close to it) But it usually follows this pattern: once men "settle" looking for "peace and comfort" it's the moment when Depression and other signs of unhappiness manifest... Unfortunately, it seems like we men need some kind of neverending battlegrounds in order to still feel alive (and thus be able to be better husbands for our wives, even if sometimes they feel more like lovers than wives, but that's PRECISELY THE FUCKING POINT YOU MORON) 🤣🤣🤣
and the other side of the coin on this dynamic is that when Women can finally "tame" the men they seek, they lose what kept them driven and they usually leave them... so it's usually like this, it's a tricky power balance and more often than not there's one that holds more power than the other
I knew her very well at the time. I had been obsessed with her music for years and then got to know her, as much as anyone could know her. She was strange, certainly, and otherworldly, but very funny, too, which rarely comes over in interviews, as she hated them, and was never comfortable making small talk. People tend to dismiss her, even now, as a person and as an artist, largely because they know little about her except for salacious rumours, apocryphal stories and myths. It is a shame, but then she never really cared what other people thought of her. You either got her or you didn't; either way it was your problem. I liked that a lot. She was like someone one met in a dream. I've never met anyone else about whom I felt that way. After talking to her for any length of time or watching a performance, one had to readjust to the rest of the world, as if coming out of a trance. I miss Nico very much even now. I certainly became a different person through knowing her. Whether that was a good thing or a bad thing, I've never been at all sure, but it was an amazing experience.
What a sweet precious beautiful woman. Her own unique eccentric person. Just love her deep voice. If I had been of age then, I would have been interested in her. In 1985 though, I was only 9. LOL Sad she's no longer with us.
This feed is full of idiots. She has the rank of #13 best albums by rolling stone. She is #1 female rock artist. She is the 5th ranked rock musician. She is la dolce vita. The USA knew her from LA DOLCE VITA by Fellini. Jim Morrison fell in love with her. He told her to write her own music. She was in the thick of everything. She opened for Pink Floyd. She introduced Iggy Pop to David Bowie. Andy Warhol sought her out to sign with Lou Reed. She modeled for Vogue and Channel before age 16. She knew fashion icons, movie icons, and music icons. She wasn't seeking fame or fortune. She was accomplished. She didn't need interests, she was interesting. She had pure self acceptance always playing full out. Doing what SHE WANTED. She wasn't seeking commercial success. Ridiculous males couldn't comprehend what her gifts were and what she brought to the party. She was supportive of the artist. If you don't get HER, that's on you, not her. She lives on in the music. People are too dumb to understand what weaves her artistic soul. She was the only female strong enough to play at the top level in the male game of rock n roll in the 60s and 70s. Some idiot thinks she hated her beauty. Which is stupid. She loved herself and did not require male validation. She was at one with Jim Morrison. She never lost the love.
She opened for the first gigs of Siouxsie and the Banshees. Had a very successful period of residency on the CBGBs (with Blondie, Talking Heads and all) in a period which is curiously called of "non-sucess" by mainstream media. I think the saddest thing is her death just when she was really getting out of the smack thing and turning the status of real icon (that she has today), playing with Marc Almond and people from electronic scene. This story about her "hate of beauty" was something which was popularized by that interview of Paul Morrissey on "Nico Icon" (I think that guy is the epitome of the "bad venous queen"). If he cut his tongue, he would die immediately by poisoning, my God. Even Warhol never talked that way about her after the Chelsea Girl era (I'm reading the second half of his diaries, interesting, but quite boring). I'm not sure, but, at the same time Nico Icon brought some light to several aspects of her life and career, has created more myths. One of the persons that really knew her deeply, Phillippe Garrel, refuses to talk about that time. So, there's still a lot of false stories that are propagated, again and again.
Saw her at the carlton pub in Christchurch chis knox supporting she did a cool version of the end by the doors she had some weird organ complete legend
she found aging and decay fascinating, she could have gotten her teeth fixed, she wasnt poor. A person can get their teeth fixed anytime but decay happens naturally over time, decay is more interesting because time is its creator.
she is perfect and evil ❤️. is a wonderful gift for human kind that she born in this plane and leave us her music and poetry. The Marble Index blew my fuckin brain out, makes me wanna cry how beautiful it is.
I read Thurston Moore holds it to be the best record of all time. He recommended it. I played it with my youngest son today, who is playing drums and guitar. He loved it. He is 17 years old . He said it scared him. The music . And her voice he thought was beautiful. Deep and mysterious he said like a witch 🧹
Nico wasn’t even racist, or a nazi. Its so sad how the false words of one, trying to achieve fame, can destroy the reputation of someone so purely amazing. RIP Nico.
I hope she misunderstood the John Cale question, because she should be so grateful to that man. Maybe they were arguing when the interview took place. I hope she was good to him.
It is so sad to see her physical decimation from heroin addiction. The yellow teeth from smoking and neglect, even a missing tooth. She looks bad from the heroin, the puffiness in the face is so tell all. The distant, aged eyes. She absolutely ruined her looks on heroin/alcohol and cigarettes. Train wreck. She was def. an ancient soul who hated being on earth plane. Too bad she couldn't have survived and maybe conquered some of her demons and learned to genuinely love herself. She did know true love at least with her Son Julian.
I agree Veran Paolini Her music is so damn good that it's so addicting her 5 and 6 album sounded so different compared to her previous 4 albums like there so up beat it sounds so good. Love all of her Fantastic Albums.
A very basic singer but she's got the charisma and used to also have the looks to back it up. I am not wowed by her voice, if anyone is they are either probably a super fan or know nothing about vocal talent but she clearly oozes that Rock N Roll lifestyle that was so iconic and yet so deadly.. ironically though, as much as she was killing herself with drugs and addiction, it was a freak accident that took her away and somehow that seems to happen to the greatest legends.

NICO had offered me in 1987 to contribute to my art by singing at future art openings...that must have been the reason why they took her out in Ibiza in 1988. I saw her again in LAWOMAN town in winter 2018 while I was living in extraordinary circumstances in Pac.Palisades. She was sitting on a bench in a shopping mall, smoke a cigarette and looked down disgusted at a homeless man sleeping on the floor in front of a fashion store.

If I can ask, is there any more you’re willing to share about seeing her when you did? Sheer curiosity. RIP Christa..
What accident? She died when she fell off her bike in Ibiza.
Honestly her solo albums, especially Marble Index, are so far ahead of what the Velvets did its in another solar system. She is more of the true avant garde that popsters like Lou Reed couldn't even dream of matching.
I Just love her accent and her Voice. Still a beautiful woman after all the crazy things and life she had
Nico was the ultimate female artist.... I visited her grave..... the most beautiful woman of all time.... I hope and pray her son Ari is ok...xx

Wow, Im honoured and humbled you have replied to my comment....
Thankyou for posting me your daughters photo. What lovely blue eyes and awesome hair.... very Nico!!!! Shine on!!!! xx
Praying for the dead????
@@elisabethdakak878 Why not?
because of her her son needs plenty of prayers
She was hopelessly post war german. A tragic figure as Kinski was. Grown up in the claustrophobic world of Wirtschaftswunder. Precisely representing the dark side of it. Full of desperation and emptiness. Listening to her is a bad trip back to one's own childhood. Fellini casted her for La Dolce Vita, and he knew why.
True. Even if Kinski was a real jerk, abusing his own daughter. She's no angel and got a drug addiction on to her son, which is criminal. However, the music she wrote and performed makes up a bit for that. It was unwordly beautiful
wow never occured to me to make the connection, thank you.
another person on the internet writing about "her childhood in post war germany" Bla Bla Bla 🤣🤣were you really there in post war germany yourself in order to know how it felt? 🤣🤣(nevermind me I'm just trying to be clever with words and failing miserably, have a nice day friend)
@@FeelingShred Hi, are you ok? Seems that you suffered a kind of post war trauma yourself.
Er Kinski sexually molested women including his daughter . A predator. You are a very disturbed person. You know Nico was herself raped you idiot ?
Absolutely made my day finding this... thank you.
she was beautiful here too! Nico is missed!
The rippling in the video seems oddly appropriate.
As a fresh faced 18yr old travelling to Manchester for the first time alone, I saw her advertised as performing in a small pub in the old part of the city. Not staying to see her has been one of my biggest regrets in life😢😢😢
She was a true artist and bared her soul in her work
I like how the reality back then was so wavy
Even this film/video was wavy.
Very sad what drugs do to us. And even though, we know the consequences, we continue to do them. At least, your son has joined you again now, Nico. RIP Ari!
Her voice cuts right through to my soul.
Ha, I love Nico so much; thanks for posting this! She is a genius (with a great sense of humour!). "As I move on...to descent or ascent" hahaha, ! Love Nico.
I met her in Sydney and saw her concert in 1985
From time to time i get obsessed by her.
A dark tragic Ophelia.......I can only hope you are at peace now.....
In 1985 I had the luck to be the stage coordinator/security/backstage service and conversation partner on a gig in Aalborg, Denmark.
If You think she looks worn in this video, I am glad You didn't see Her, like I got to see her when she arrived.
When She went onstage She was all there though.
In the break, and after the show, s
She was an absolute delight to talk to, and was even very friendly to a journalist from a minor local radiostation.
So, I can honestly brag about having had a hug from Nico
Did you watch the recent Nico 1988 movie, what did you think of it?
No I didn't but thank You for making Me aware of it
She doesn't look that bad here, she was 47 and the light is not flattering at all. I saw her live in Belgrade 1985 and 1987, she was touring a lot before she died. And was clean last 2 years of her life.
She looks so sad when she mentions Jim, he was devastatingly in love with him, but Jim was Jim.
it's the mystery of life, writers have been writing about it for 2000+ years now and we haven't been able to ever figure out (or get close to it) But it usually follows this pattern: once men "settle" looking for "peace and comfort" it's the moment when Depression and other signs of unhappiness manifest... Unfortunately, it seems like we men need some kind of neverending battlegrounds in order to still feel alive (and thus be able to be better husbands for our wives, even if sometimes they feel more like lovers than wives, but that's PRECISELY THE FUCKING POINT YOU MORON) 🤣🤣🤣
and the other side of the coin on this dynamic is that when Women can finally "tame" the men they seek, they lose what kept them driven and they usually leave them... so it's usually like this, it's a tricky power balance and more often than not there's one that holds more power than the other
why am I taking so many paragraphs to state that "water is wet" 🤣🤣
@@FeelingShredsame goes for men that tame women.
But Jim loved the Cinnamon Girl
Whether that was a good thing or a bad thing, I've never been at all sure, but it was an amazing experience.
ah not a lot of details/incidents included there
What a sweet precious beautiful woman. Her own unique eccentric person. Just love her deep voice. If I had been of age then, I would have been interested in her. In 1985 though, I was only 9. LOL
Sad she's no longer with us.
The gaze she gives at 00:34 shows exactly how much hatred she had towards Chelsea Girl and its musical arrangements.
I think it’s a great song
after seeing Nico 1988 the Danish actress playing her does a great interpretation, if not imitation of her, to her credit.
She was Johnny Cooper Clark's squeeze and living in Brixton UK for a while..
She was his friend. They were never romantically involved
Drugs, and lifestyle really took their toll on her... But she was a fantastic true artist.
For some Teutonic Ice Queen, she seemed like a sweetheart.Anyone know if 1988's worth seeing?
Definitely worth watching
Crazy and Brilliant!~
If you can get the book, read "Nico, the end" by James Young.
It actually portrays her as a not so nice person I didn't expect that
Mitica Nico donna bellissima la ricordo nel film "La Dolce vita "💜
She is absolutely one of the greatest artists and beauties of the 20th century
i mean rolling stone more like rolling gay

I guess at some point she was happy to be like this, because she hated being beautiful to others and she wanted to get out of her model image.
@@Huegelmann So true,I saw it on the documentary NICO ICON
she found aging and decay fascinating, she could have gotten her teeth fixed, she wasnt poor. A person can get their teeth fixed anytime but decay happens naturally over time, decay is more interesting because time is its creator.
Para bien o mal nico fue parte del movimiento underground y una parte fundamental para artistas como warhol y varios otros. Una diosa incomprendida.
Wow! LOVE! Thank you! Is there any more, please?
Skeeter NYC .
she is perfect and evil ❤️. is a wonderful gift for human kind that she born in this plane and leave us her music and poetry.
Elegance at it's finest.
she was very tall and strong
Nico wasn’t even racist, or a nazi. Its so sad how the false words of one, trying to achieve fame, can destroy the reputation of someone so purely amazing. RIP Nico.
How You Know We Saying She is Racist and Evil!!!! 😂😂
The most interesting thing of those who sing such nihilistic songs are that they are soft spoken.
They did a good job protraying her in the Nico 1988 movie
I hope she misunderstood the John Cale question, because she should be so grateful to that man. Maybe they were arguing when the interview took place. I hope she was good to him.
She was so beautiful young ...her son was like her destroyed
It is so sad to see her physical decimation from heroin addiction. The yellow teeth from smoking and neglect, even a missing tooth. She looks bad from the heroin, the puffiness in the face is so tell all. The distant, aged eyes. She absolutely ruined her looks on heroin/alcohol and cigarettes. Train wreck. She was def. an ancient soul who hated being on earth plane. Too bad she couldn't have survived and maybe conquered some of her demons and learned to genuinely love herself. She did know true love at least with her Son Julian.
She's not missing a tooth
She is missing a tooth at the side her front tooth is crooked. She was beautiful, but so lost.
@@desertrose1226 The crooked tooth she always had that, you can see it in the old pics from the time she was a model.
Her son is Christian Aaron. Anyone can have a missing tooth at 47. The light here is quite unflattering

I agree Veran Paolini Her music is so damn good that it's so addicting her 5 and 6 album sounded so different compared to her previous 4 albums like there so up beat it sounds so good. Love all of her Fantastic Albums.
Her beautiful voice unchanged through all the addictions and abuses.
Reading the comments it's obvious that not alot of people know much about Nico
she had an uncompromising vision, which she fully realized. LOL @ her neil diamond audience slam.
❤❤❤
a true artist
A very basic singer but she's got the charisma and used to also have the looks to back it up. I am not wowed by her voice, if anyone is they are either probably a super fan or know nothing about vocal talent but she clearly oozes that Rock N Roll lifestyle that was so iconic and yet so deadly.. ironically though, as much as she was killing herself with drugs and addiction, it was a freak accident that took her away and somehow that seems to happen to the greatest legends.
She was a really great musician
One so beautiful woman destroyed par the drugs, what's a pity.
RIP Nico.

Des sa naissance elle avait des séquelles de la drogue car son père était un grand opiomane.
I interviewed NICO that same year 1987 in Munich.
German music press wouldn't publish it..called it "too s o p h i s t i c a t e d "..that 's what the galleries in Palm Spring said about my abstract art (which NICO l o v e d ) as well "too s o p h i s t i c a t e d "
I made the interview with NICO into a feature, which finally ended up in a 600 pages book with tributes to NICO , which came out right at my birthday (nov 1st) in 2019 at STARFRUIT PUBLICATIONS ,Germany.
Poor Ari..as mother wasn't great for him.
But I've got compassion about her .
Now they are both in peace 🙏
My friend Jim Morrison… might have heard of him? She really can’t even this entire interview.
I wonder how John Cale and Nico got along instead of Lou Reed he seemed to not like her singing at her if I'm not mistaking.
