thank for this...this testimony about the most underrated music talent in all the history of the musica of 20 century...surely because she was a woman...the creator of a entire genre, the gothic music
She's not a junkie, and she doesn't need an interview for 15 minutes of fame... she had her own musical career and was the lead singer in Manchester band Intastella... and also played Nico in a play. She was just saying it as it is... Nico was a great presence and had huge charisma (I once met Nico in Manchester), but she never had a special voice. Ringo Starr wasn't the best drummer... but he still gave something special to the world. You're just seeing insult where there isn't any.
Poor Ari dies while his father never aknowleged him as his son poor man you see sometimes his family name is päffgan sometimes bologne but never delon its not easy that whole your life looking for you identity
I feel so sorry neither for her nor for Alain Delon, but only for Ari Boulogne who suffered till the end of his life as a drug addict thanks to that mother!
@@egyptianhibiscus9203 You are right, I didn't, but I felt so sorry for him and stil am. Imagining how he must have suffered by being denied by his father. Also his Grandmother suffered a lot because her son made her choose between him and Ari. A very sad story, indeed. I new nothing about his Icon mother....She was his Mum, how not to love her, respect her, and imitate her!
@@adekale His mother is Nico, real name Christa Päffgen. But the documentary about her is called "Nico Icon". There is also Ari speaking there, Edith Boulogne Delon's mother, Nikos Papatakis who was in relationship with Nico when she got pregnant, some band members etc. Well, she was...unusual :). Fortunately Delon's mother took Ari, but A.Delon, I don't understand why he was like that. They even met, Ari and him. Yes, poor Ari. Such a sensitive and intelligent person. And Nico stopped with drugs 2 years before she died in an accident, then he lost her.
Some people don't like her voice. But for some reason I just love it. It's sounds so cool. It never bothered me. I think she's a musical genius and is not well known. Oh was well known or still is well known.
0:55 Unfortunately heroine wasn't a departure from Andy's New York circus. 3:30 "She said no at the height of her fame"; with the Velvet Underground?! I don't really think there was much fame to walk away from. As for her influence on counter culture it was huge, but was post-Velvets a radical departure?
There is a good book written about Nico at this time in Manchester called "Nico the end" by James Young, one of her musicians. Not allways flattering but interesting, agood read if you want to find out more about Nico.
I've seen this under another video : 'The book is largely fictitious ; her late manager confirmed that Young's book was a fiction, a cartoon-like caricature.' (@user-yz9kz6vt9y) I personally prefer Bickerdike's book (written by a scholar, less sensationalist).
James Young wrote a very good book about her called... Songs They Never Play On the Radio (but you probably know that already). Her music is not very advertiser-friendly. For all of her troubled life, and for all the drugs and chaos, the beauty and power of her albums Desertshore and The Marble Index will endure. The best thing I've seen written about her music is by Jeff Perdue at Habits of Waste: zh.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nico

Extract from Bickerdike's book, 2021 : "Graf-Ulbricht said that 'Nico had told me that she got Ari hooked on smack. That's why I recounted this [...] and then this information was out in the world.' Later, Ari told Graf-Ulbricht that someone other than his mother introduced him to the drug. [...] Nico was presented [...] with her child, who was almost a fully grown adult. [...] The drug provided, as Ari astutely recognized, a mutual bond, without having to dissect the tangled, complicated and messy emotional baggage, the very thing that had driven both of them independently to take up the substance in the first place."
It wasn't Ari's "obsession", Nico tried to obtain the acknowledgement of paternity from Delon as soon as Ari was born. She made a mistake by not stating the name of the father on Ari's birth certificate. Only a complete ignorant can claim Lou Reed was Ari's father. Nico met Lou Reed for the first time in 1966, Ari was 4 at that time. Andy Warhol introduced her to Lou and his band The Velvet Underground, the band was founded in 1964. In the year 1961 as Ari was conceived, Lou Reed was a 19 old student at the Syracuse University in New York, and had no idea who Nico was. Also his whole life he remained childless (in spite of 3 marriages), cause he didn't want any children

I used to live in sedgley park. I often thought about her in my flat....

That is the power of Age.

Nico we miss you so much!!!!!😥😥Ps:Happy Birthday 🎉
just the Ari part is so sad you can see he lost it😢

Is that performance of Genghis Khan, on any of her live albums? I've never heard it like that, it's beautiful!
I had a K7 , live in Paris. I'm sure it's been released again. I think the title was "Do or Die, Nico Live in Paris, 1986. [?]"
Yeah, where the hell is the footage from? How stoopid to have someone talking over it!
Yep named my successful young daughter after her Chelsea girls LP. She is an artist. ✌
Beau documentaire.
rip Christa Päffgen aka Nico

RIP BEAUTIFUL GODDESS NICO
Nico: miséria total!
Thank you for this.
What's the name of the park she last lived in?
i would have loved to hug her and kiss her begind the ear
she'd reject you
Is Alan Wise - "Demetrius" ?
Yes
Yesssss
The good Doctor himself!
I believe he said BROUGHTON PARK.
She did NOT sing flat. It’s such nonsense. Her accuracy is actually uncanny. One doesn’t hear such often, certainly without autotune.

It's crazy you don't hear any of her songs on the radio.
Do they play her songs on the radio over at Germany or Italy.

No, in Germany she is almost unknown.
Nico's grave is located in a Berlin cemetery, called the "suicide cemetery" or "cemetery of the nameless".
Perfect timing to go to Ibiza for the e, prob would have ended making a couple of cracking 12" on Factory/R&S or something
good vid cheers

yes, ari was really handsome - but now .....
