- In this lesson we will talk about a new way of working with mattes in Adobe After Effects. In the past applying the same matte to various layers was a very laborious task. Lucky for us in the newest version of After Effects that has all changed. Now you can apply 1 matte to multiple layers... Hallelujah!
This is such a long time coming. Set Matte never worked right and had so many limitations. Thanks for the video.
Absolutely! You’re welcome ☺️
such a good quality of life update, I've been using the set matte effect for a while to achieve something similar but this is much easier
It’s a long time coming!
Took them 10 years to develop this, well done my Indian fella developers, well done.
(No racist tho, since Adobe closed the Chinese R&D centre about 10 years ago then the developing team mainly consist of Indian now)
Good things take time I guess 🤷♂️
Its one of those things where you go "why didn't anyone think of this 10 years ago? Or 15 years ago?"
Yes! I always wanted a system where you could pick whip adjustment layers to specific layers only. Maybe another 10 years 🤔
I can remember being so hyped when I found out about SET MATTE years ago so I began using it everywhere and things started to break. I understand it's limitations now but it just wasn't worth the hassle so stopped using it. I've been using 'COPY WITH PROPERTY LINKS' which works really well for syncing masks even if they are in different comps. But this is probably the BEST feature in years and can't wait.
It really is the biggest update in a decade!
We may use the effect call "Set Matte" to save layers. But Track matte is feel like more..direct :)
Thanks for the insight Dolphin. You can you Set Matte, but it falls apart real quick unfortunately. If you alter the layer in any way it will not apply to the effect. So if you scale it up, for instance that change will not be reflected in the Set Matte.
@@YouAndMeAcademy Yes, thats why I said Track matte is more direct to do what we want XD
Absolutely it’s the way to go!
After using it for a month, I wouldn't say it cuts your layers in half. I still need an individual layer for each adjustment layer to adjust colors on different 3d objects in my comps. But what the new track matte system is doing for me is allowing me to place all of my mattes at the bottom of the comp, as opposed to interspersed throughout ...which makes it a little less cluttered.
It’s so good! Thanks for sharing your experiences!
Does anybody know when these new features will be releasing on production build? Can't wait
I believe it will be soon, exciting stuff!
Or, just use Fusion or nuke.
Always use what works best for you and your project 👌
