    I think you really need to do a Heritage guitar just to check out the feel and the quality control and all of that stuff. Because you know the Gibsons so intimately you’re in a position to have an educated opinion.

      I have owned a heritage for years and they are as good or better than Gibson. I've been playing for forty years. The company was sold a few years ago so I can't attest to their quality now but before that their great. Under a lawsuit with Gibson they had to use 300k volume pots which load down the humbuckers not allowing that desired growl. I put 1megaohm volume pots in mine and it made the Schaller pups sing

    I feel the same way about the Heritage guitar head stock. It is actually based on a style Gibson used at one time. Something about a diminishing head stock doesn't really sit right with me. Back when we had a vintage store that also became a Gibson dealer towards the end we had heard of a whole semi truck of cases being stolen. I could imagine the bogus instruments built over there and shipped here to be put in a real case. Seems to be a role of the dice with eBay as I had a 5e3 clone that I built and listed clearly as a clone... I used the name Fender only to describe the circuit there was no mistaking it but they pulled me. I was also forced to return a scammers money. He waited till the last day then made a complaint about the speakers being torn wreckage of twisted metal. They were Electro voice cast frame speakers. We had already talked and he was pleased with them but he got them to keep on me to return his money and he never returned my speakers. Oh yeah the capper... he told my lady FU when she inquired and she was extremely polite. I don't worry about it things come back to people like that, oftentimes so much worse that I sometimes feel bad for them.

    Had one of those "Supreme" cases and the black dye destroyed the finish on a Alpine White colored Supreme and had to send the guitar back to Gibson under warranty for a replacement! They replaced the LP and sent a Supreme case with the "white plush" interior, a MUCH BETTER CASE! I would throw everyone one of those black interior ones in a burn pile! They will ruin your guitars finish ......fair warning.

      I own 3 top tier Epiphone customs from the last 4 years (2nd version Iommi SG, Brent Hinds V, and a brand new Prophecy Les Paul). All of them are perfect in terms of fit and finish, and all came with premium pups (Iommi has Gibson USA Iommi pups). The setup on the LP was just NOT a setup, but easy fix. Got all three at 15-18% and I'm all in for less than the current price of a Gibson LP standard, including the cases I bought. Fully stoked and laughing every time I (very frequently) see people with obvious QC issues on their Gibsons. I bet a perfect Gibson LP setup properly would be awesome, just not worth it when I can have 3 killer guitars instead.

    See the video for "The Big Goodbye" by Great White. Mark Kendall plays a natural finish Gibson US map guitar.
    Did Gibson ever do any weird things with variations in standard guitars in the line or were they always exactly the same from whatever model from the period they came from? I know I was reading the ESP forum and people were asking if guitars were real or fake and responses were declaring guitars definitely fake, but I don't think they know what they are talking about. I had a few ESP guitars from back in the 80s and they differed slightly from the catalog with things like a reverse headstock here, a different wood on the fretboard there and an additional pickup, etc. I know they were authentic because I bought them new from ESP dealers and they were not custom ordered and at that time no one was counterfeiting ESPs. The catalogs were lacking in much technical details and years later when I contacted ESP to find out what kind of wood was used in each model, they could only speculate and said that there were no remaining records from back at that time. I can't imagine Gibson would think their guitars would be so collectable and people would be so meticulous about the details, back in the early days. I used to replace the stock pickups all the time and when I got a 1981 Gibson Flying V, I immediately had to replace the badly cut bone nut and the bridge and then I put on Schaller machines and Dunlop straplocks because I noticed that's what the rockstars like Scorpions and Michael Schenker had done. That V is long gone, but I still have the original tuners in a box somewhere.

    2:15 This is done much like a reserve auction is done except there is no automated way to know that magic number. In a reserve auction you could plug some crazy bid like $999,999,999 and probably find out what the reserve is (but then you would need to retract bid...) but in this bid/offer format the offer is essentially going to be the sellers "reserve" i.e. what they hope it will sell for. In the example guitar of $1499 if they offered $2500 the seller might end the auction immediately with a sell if that is how much they actually wanted.

Would like your opinion and your thoughts on what we should pay for a used heritage in good condition. If you have time just your opinion no need to research I can do that but you seem knowledgable and so that's why I am asking you. Cheers.

      @@crestadude4139 one thing about Heritage is they do not retain the value. On their 150 and 535, I wouldn’t pay more than $1600 for a used one. You can find them for less, but used prices across the board, regardless of brand are going up.

    At some point Heritage have to recognize that people don't buy their products *literally* because they can't stand those headstocks. It seems like such a silly, small thing to standby. I really think that is the biggest barrier to entry for hundreds, if not thousands of people to try Heritage out. i've owned 3 Les Paul Juniors in my life. the first one was a 1955 single cut that i bought when i was 19 and i don't remember what i paid for it. the second one i bought was in 1994. it was a dead mint, collectors grade. this thing was never played. it had the original cardboard alligator case. i paid $500. i was recording an album at the time and quickly realized this thing was a dog, no wonder it was never played. it. it also had real freaky frets. i sold it to the producer for $900. the third was a 1959 double cut that was in very nice condition until i broke the neck. i paid $1000 and sold it for the same. that was 2006. most juniors then went for $1000 up to $3000 for a nice TV model. fast forward to 2011 and looking on eBay i see juniors and specials starting at 18 grand!! fucking nuts. there has never been a junior worth anywhere close to that. these days i see nice ones going for 6 or 10 grand, still way too much. what happened where suddenly they became so overpriced? if anyone should know it would be you.

      They are for what they are, the pickups aren't great although Seymour does a hot replacement.

      I had a 72 SG 1 exactly like that one, it was ok ($450 from GC 8 years ago), but had a number of details "off" for an SG. Weird blocky neck/body heel joint, reduced headstock angle (14 degrees instead of the standard 17 degree pitch), horns were barely contoured and body seemed crudely cut, ok action but thick neck profile, underpowered pickup (not the same mini hum they used on the Firebirds, very bland and low output.) Sold it within a few years (kept my 73 SG Standard instead), it was cool in a vintage student-model sort of way but not the best daily player.

      For modern rock I'd recommend the SG-X models of the 90s (also called the All American Series SG 1 at one point), I had a stock 98 that was great, like the red burst one on this video. Came with a coil tapped 500t ceramic pickup that did great for me for rock and metal, high output. The coil tap wasn't especially useful (sounded too anemic and thin when split imho), had planned to convert it to a kill switch instead but had to sell when times got tough. Great guitar though, chunky 50s neck but not neck-heavy.

    If someone is in the market for a affordable les paul studio with that 1980s type dot neck, check out JHS Vintage guitars in the UK, they have 2 or 3 models like that

    I reckon there's a gap in the market for you to twitch stream your guitar hunting sessions and have some international with your audience. I know I'd tune in (so long as it wasn't in the middle of the night in the UK)

    I've seen it several times on the local market where people are trying to sell an SG as a Les Paul. Long before the advent of internet in homes I read an article in a magazine that put up the argument that technically an SG is a Les Paul. Wish I could remember the writer and magazine. Maybe you can find out and do an episode on that

    • @Djarra
      @Djarra 3 роки тому

      Originally the SG shape was an update to the Les Paul and was called the Les Paul, then in the early 60s Les retired on doctors orders and his contract with Gibson lapsed, and it became the SG. At this time Gibson wasn't making the single cut shape. Les' doctor then told him to go back to playing gigs so he un retired (apparently being retired was worse for him than spending all his time in clubs) this happened to be around the time of the British Blues Explosion and the single cut shape was ripe for a reissue, and Gibson and Les made a deal and the Les Paul returned.
      Had Les not agreed to once again lend his name to the guitar Gibson would used the SG prefix in the same way that they use the ES prefix for semis.

      My '61 'SG' IS a Les Paul. Says Les Paul Jr. right on the headstock.
      I HATE when people call the original Jr. an SG, but I see it all the time.

    • @clarkbabin9799
      @clarkbabin9799 3 роки тому

      I was asking if Austin the Les Paul expert could do a video or even a series to quell the myths and bring out the facts. If I go by what some say then the reissue is essentially a Les Paul. I know there was a second when the original was named for Les Paul but it was also called Standard Gibson from an article I read. Let's just leave it to Austin since he is the expert.

    • @leer.9641
      @leer.9641 3 роки тому

      @@clarkbabin9799 Yeah, the reissue is definitely **not** a LP, nor should it be called a L, especially since LP himself made Gibson quit calling the double cutaways Les Pauls.. The originals, though, were marketed, labeled, and sold as Les Pauls, then changed to SGs after his displeasure at having the double cutaway with his name on it.
      In my mind, the only double cutaways that can - and should - be called Les Pauls were made between '58-’63.

    Trogly, how can you be such a huge Gibson fan and not be interested in checking out Heritage Guitars? Headstock and pickguard??? Really!! I get it's not the famous Gibson headstock, the other side of that is the line from nut to tuners is on a much better angle and does help quite a bit with tuning stability. As far as the pickguard, take it off. Will admit I was the same with that thinking, till having one, grew on me quickly and is much better quality that the LP.
    Suggest going down the rabbit hole a bit and researching the history of Heritage Guitars. It's much more than the building, many of the machines used to build the old Les Pauls were left behind and still used today. In fact they still make the Guitars in pretty much the same way they did in the late 50's. The quality control seams to be much better than Gibson is across the board. May be a bit preachy here, call it a push to have a Trogly Heritage review.
    Better yet, would love to have a Gibson Standard and a Heritage H-150 Blind faceoff, You playing both and see which you like playing better. Ha ha .
