I own this pedal. It's amazingly versatile and it sounds terrific. The most unique tone you can get is by using the parallel mode with low gain in the BD and high gain in the AC and then try different volume combinations between the two. You can get from a slightly break-up with a distorted background all the way to a heavy high gain sound with individual note clarity. Very unique!
That's so weird, I use a BD-2 for my clean sound and was going to upgrade to an angry charlie for my dirty sound at Christmas! This'll save a space on my board and it looks sick.
MrBrownstonee From what I've heard Josh from JHS loves the blues driver. If I remember correctly he started modding pedals with a blues driver. It seems like an odd paring at first though for sure!
Almost 2 years later and still a great demonstration of the pedal. I have a few Boss overdrive and distortion pedals but It wouldn't hurt to add the JB-2 Angry Driver.
Rebea, your demo videos are some of the best on UA-cam. I've been listening to many demos of this pedal and most of these videos don't intice me to buy one. You find a way to make the pedal sound like magic. I ordred one because you showed how to get the best out of this pedal. Josh's video was also good, but I couldn't finish watching any others. You're awesome, man!
That pedal is just... dude that sounds sick. I'm loving the tones flexibility and small footprint. The angry Charlie has always sounded great (I've had a v2 on my board for about a year now). The modded blues driver sounds amazing as well. I definitely don't need another overdrive... but I'm really wanting this!
The very 1st OD tone played is so Alice in chains (old AIC) this pedal is superb I'm afraid to check the price given the angry c is an expensive pedal already. But the functionality... I'm already starting to talk my self into getting this...
The BEST guitar reviews ever man. Your mixture of rhythm and a few tasty leads is a perfect blend. You actually get to hear what the pedal sounds like!!
Well, you’ve just convinced me why I NEED this pedal. I’ve been looking for that one pedal to give my dirt sound in one box in stead of cascading two separate OD’s. Thanks dude! 🤘🏻🎸🖖🏻
I have never had luck with Boss pedals. I can't get good sound out of them. But I do respect their reliability and toughness. I think this is a GREAT concept and I really hope they go further down this road.
Wow! Sounds really warm with plenty of viciousness! I really think a nice set-up with a modern sound Precision Drive to preamp/amp and an Angry Driver (Marshall/Friedman) to preamp/amp dual rig would just be the most amazing thing ever! You could get all that mid-range goodness of a Marshall/Friedman and all the thump of an EVH/ENGL type tone... Heaven!
Such a sick collaboration! The bluesdriver and angry charlie work so well together anyway (as proven by Andy timmons) so it's such a great collab for just one pedal 😄👍🏻
Great demo 'Bea! I always watch to see when the guitarist gets "goofy happy face" on these demos, you hit it about the time you said "that's jus filthy!!" 😁 That's when you know it sounds good live. Keep living the dream!
It is an awesome sounding pedal, and I think that Josh has made one other huge impact by collaborating with Boss -> finally a Boss pedal with a decent strength LED. Now I hope he collaborates with Ibanez
@Rabea , it's a real pleasure to see and hear your work, your evolution. Your playing is one of the most inspiring to me the last times. Thanks for this great review and please keep the heart, the Soul and the sensitivity. That puts so much Light in what you transmit.. Wish you the best
Rabea correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that the BOSS FDR-1 Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb was BOSS's first ever pedal made in collaboration.
Fender was the first collaborative partner, but the pedals were using all BOSS tech to put together amp emulation of Fender gear, into a compact pedal form. This is the first pedal using the tech of another pedal company shared with BOSS tech. A component level collaboration.
Hey Rabea, fantastic job with the description and sound. I just picked up a Led Paul Studio and have been watching lots of videos on gear. Your demos have become one of my favorites. Keep it up!
It looks pretty epic. Also is there any chance you could talk about the differences in sound between 1x12, 2x12, and 4x12 cabs? I keep hearing a ton of conflicting information
Sean Griffey in reality, the size of a speaker makes no real difference. It's how they are voiced, the cab, construction and wattage. There's a ton of info on this on dedicated speaker forums. Literally go take your head to a large store and plug it in. Use your ears. 👍
I believe he was talking about the size of the cab and not the size of the speaker. But yeah the Ltr volume of a cab can make a shitload of difference, then open, closed, semi open. I have an oversized 1x12 semi-open (mm 500x500x350 (deep) ) and a standard sized 2x12, with the same speakers the 1x12 sounds just as big and has just as much projection as the 2x12 when used at "stage volumes", at lower volumes the 2x12 has a bit more dimension to it. I actually use the 1x12 90% of the time now, when at a decent volume even over my 4x12 or 2x12
TacoTacoTacoTaco I respectfully refute that. Speaker sizes don't affect sound on their own. Too many variables, and-admittedly anecdotally-4x12 cabs only came into existence because you couldn't get 100w speakers cheaply enough so 4 smaller ones were needed. Has nothing to do with tone. I have no source for that, it's only received wisdom.
Yeah speaker size does have an effect the tone, 12 inch are more mid rangy hence why they are used more often than not for guitars, for example on a 12 inch speaker you'll have a frequency somewhere between 3.3 and 3.6 kHz that creates ear fatigue with anything distorted and it's common among 12 inch speakers, that's automatically where a studio technician will go to start off with to remove annoying frequencies, and that's just one example. 10 inch speakers are used a lot for bass because the cone covers less surface area and make them ideal for giving out nicer more controlled bass frequencies and of course the cones can physically take more pressure before rupture (that's why 12 and 15 inch speakers designed for bass generally have massive dust caps, it's for the tone and the sturdiness). Let's say that speakers within a same size will share the same pro's and cons when it comes to reproduced frequencies, and then yes of course within a same size you can get a load of different sounding speakers, but they will share certain characteristics appart from size.
But yes you are correct Matt Chapman that 4x12 came into existence because of the low power handling of speakers at the time and the high power output of amp heads, most speakers used alnico magnets at the time which limited the amount of power a speaker could handle, then we moved on to other types of magnet like neodymium for example. That's also one of the reasons why 8x10s for bass came into existence as well
lokotron1 you should try it, a lot of famous cleans are from a driven signal with the volume knob on the guitar turned down, that's how Timmons uses his BD2. He has a treble bleed circuit on the volume pot, so when he hits the BD2 it unloads the pickups allowing him a really chime-y, amp like compressed clean tone that a lot of people dig
Love Boss compact pedals....classic pedal board warriors for us gigging players. This new JB-2 sounds like it's got some cool craziness going on..can't wait to give one a try!! As always, totally freakin awesome demo and playing man. Seeya out there Bea :)
Wow great demo as usual man! This might be the first boss overdrive/distortion I'll buy!, the other ones really just don't do it for me (except for the hyper fuzz; that pedal is literally electric wizard in a box)
That thing sounds rad. If I were recording with it, I'd set up a tone with the JHS side and stick it on the left and the BD on the right and bring them up together. Total beast mode.
Great! Thank you for reviewing this product, Ironically I was looking for the instructions manual at the boss website the very day before the product was actually put up, sadly, the user manual still didn't explain anything.
16:00 & 18:18 Damn Bea! You just can't keep yourself from blowing my mind!! You make devilish tones sound godlike! So inspiring with those chord progressions...!
It sounds banging. Nice subtle blend between the two. What would have made it killer would be if it had an extra foot switch to change between modes built in rather than needing a separate one on your pedal board. The main switch turns it on and off then one on top to switch between Boss and JHS modes.
Came back to this video as was thinking of picking up a Blues Driver after your demos. But always liked the Guvnor type too. Sounds great. Your tones here reminded me a bit of Jerry Cantrell's on Alice in Chains Dirt - tracks like Dam that River. And sure enough, seems that Cantrell was on JCM800 on that album. Which I do think the Guvnor type is well in the ball park of, tonally. Angry Driver / Angry Charly is a good name for it - it's definitely a sort of great tone for a bad attitude vibe.
Hi Rabea! First of, let me tell you I've been watching all your videos for the past months and I'm really thankful for all the insights and tips you're sharing with us. Love the work you're doing at Anderton's but mostly all your amazingly-powerful-driven-groove at Toska. Second, let me tell you I'd love to see you guys live here in Lisbon, Portugal. Maybe someday. I'm also a guitarist (or at least I'm trying :P )... I also share the love for Strats (I have an American Strat which I personally built with 70's arm and a 60's body - John Mayer reissue - and Fender Texas Special pickups, and I also have a Duesy Starplayer TV). Keep going and rocking! Thanks for all the lessons and for everything you already taught me. :)
B,I saw this yesterday,I wanted it,I saw the price and balked.I've obviously now heard you demo it.....Give me my tablet,I need to order something from Andertons! You my young friend are THE man.Cheers.
This pedal is so amazing my children will go without food this month!
😂😂😂
two years late, but this is such a great comment
Legend has it he sold one of those children for a Quad Cortex
6 years after and i agree ahahh@@arnyarny77
Boss should collaborate with korg (Miku and Mt-2 )to make Miku zone
WANT!!
waterpig84 nice one😂
Sadly, Boss is under Roland's umbrella, and Roland and Korg have been rivals in the synth market since the 70s.
Miku will sound like a death metal singer...lmao
The baby metal pedal
Hell, I don't need the pedal, I need hours and hours of practice and an afro.
A Thrasher shirt will have to do, I guess.
Let’s not forget, the pedal is nothing without the player. This guy is a freaking master at his craft!
Very unique!
i don't need it... I DON'T NEED IT!!! I NEEEEEED IIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTT
You need it. Sorry.
Markus Laursen Spongebob? If so, awesome!
You don't need this. Trust me.
You really don't.
ua-cam.com/video/HA1mbZ_MMh8/v-deo.html
I NEEEEEEEEEEEDDDD ITTTTTTTT
That's so weird, I use a BD-2 for my clean sound and was going to upgrade to an angry charlie for my dirty sound at Christmas! This'll save a space on my board and it looks sick.
BD-2 for a clean (cleanish) sound is really great as it thickens your original signal I find it sounds very warm and not harsh at all.
It really is perfect for what you and I'm sure many others do now with two pedals. Love that you can switch between the two drives with one stomp
I was thinking this but the optional controller looks a bit of a must have to me if you buy an angry driver.
@@lenduckworth99 I use it in JHS/Boss Mode Blues Driver always on and I just tap the boss again if I need more drive. No external foot switch needed.
19:12 "Ohhh, it's just filthy" That's the one-second review right there. 😂
Top musical stuff and lovely outro jam, Mr M!
I haven't wanted to buy a boss compact pedal in a long time, and I've never played any jhs stuff but this sound really nice.
I've watched this video SO many times dude, basically this ultimately convinced me to buy one! Thanks for doing these and all the effort you put in!
from want to need in 19mins
in my case it was from want to bought before the 10 minutes mark.
For me it was in 4 minute 28 seconds
Hahah i thought it was fake when i saw the thumbnail, lucky it ain't April fools yet! Would not have guessed this collab.
Seems like a very handy pedal, with a good amount of variety. Love Bosses reliability too!
Rebea, your demo videos are some of the best on UA-cam. I've been listening to many demos of this pedal and most of these videos don't intice me to buy one. The modded blues driver sounds amazing as well. I definitely don't need another overdrive... but I'm really wanting this!
Wow! Very exciting that 2 great manufacturers are collaborating
Holy Balls!! Had no idea this existed! Nothing 2020 about that. Must have!
This is an amazing time in history to be alive.
Love the versatility of this pedal setup
Rabea, you make a
BD-2 sound aggressive.
Congrats on the review. Awesome! Wicked!
Well, you’ve just convinced me why I NEED this pedal. I’ve been looking for that one pedal to give my dirt sound in one box in stead of cascading two separate OD’s. Thanks dude! 🤘🏻🎸🖖🏻
Great playing as usual Rabea! The best UA-cam guitar lessons are sometimes hidden in product demos.
So it's got JB mode and BJ mode?... I know which one I'd pick ;D
Good one! ;)
jaeden martinez It's worth buying just for that
JB right?
JB man! Gotta love that French Job du Blow with the extra tongue
BJ mode is for female guitarists only
I have never had luck with Boss pedals. I can't get good sound out of them. But I do respect their reliability and toughness. I think this is a GREAT concept and I really hope they go further down this road.
I thought this was a joke at first too when JHS announced it! But now I just want Boss to TAKE MY MONEY!!!!
Heaven!
Considering that this pedal costs the same as the Angry Charlie alone, it's a great deal!
Awesome playing. And agreed, that pedal is very thick sounding! Nice job Rabea explaining all the features.
Love this pedal it's like making your amp in to three more channels
Rabea, you are a MONSTER! So good man. I literally listen to your videos just for your playing.
Caleb Zedwick You mean watch your videos?...
No, not usually.
THIS VIDEO SOLD ME THE PEDAL. Love it, Rabea!
It is an awesome sounding pedal, and I think that Josh has made one other huge impact by collaborating with Boss -> finally a Boss pedal with a decent strength LED. Now I hope he collaborates with Ibanez
Hay que admitir que es una de las mejores colaboraciones que se les ha ocurrido, genial
Best OD pedal I've heard in a long long time.
@Rabea , it's a real pleasure to see and hear your work, your evolution. Your playing is one of the most inspiring to me the last times.
Thanks for this great review and please keep the heart, the Soul and the sensitivity. That puts so much Light in what you transmit..
Wish you the best
You're my favorite reviewer, so I'm so happy that you were so quick with this review when I saw this product was released!
I know you play some sick heavy riffs, Rabea,... but that outro melodic harmony you played with both modes at the end was awesome .
Best channel ! Thanks for the amazing content . Your playing is absolutely amazing .
Rabea correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that the BOSS FDR-1 Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb was BOSS's first ever pedal made in collaboration.

Boss is the king of pedal world. This is their first collaboration with another pedal company.
Thank you for going over the external foot switch functionality! I haven’t seen any other review cover this.
16:00 Absolute Rammstein tone there! Amazing pedal
Great sounding pedal and some terrific riffing. Reminded me of some of the tone on Superunknown album.
I can't stress how much I love your playing man, 18:19 to the end, some of the most beautiful stuff I've ever heard.
and without a doubt thats the best sounding PRS I've ever heard.
That Thrasher Tee! Takes my back about 30 years!
I bought the Neunaber Immerse because of your playing and now i have to order this one. Sounds really good. Keep up the good work.
I could listen to Rabea play all day.
Best demo for this pedal. Ive never wanted one until now. Cheers!
Good lead playing wow. Your style is really coming into its own and is so flavorful
Hey Rabea, fantastic job with the description and sound. I just picked up a Led Paul Studio and have been watching lots of videos on gear. Your demos have become one of my favorites. Keep it up!
Thanks for explaining clearly, now I want one!

Cool pedal to include in the loop of my boss gt 100
I have to buy this pedal now.. i have no self control
Still like pedal? Some pedals fool me Early. How it Sound/Feal?
your face at 10:00 when you played them together for the first time is like “whoa holy shit” 😂
Literally Timmons tone in a box considering he uses a bd2 for cleans
uses an overdrive for cleans? mustnt be that clean
lokotron1 you should try it, a lot of famous cleans are from a driven signal with the volume knob on the guitar turned down, that's how Timmons uses his BD2. He has a treble bleed circuit on the volume pot, so when he hits the BD2 it unloads the pickups allowing him a really chime-y, amp like compressed clean tone that a lot of people dig
I was thinking the same, put the modded version of the AC that is his @ signature into this box, the modded BD2 and he has both in one unit.
lokotron1 lol he rolls off his volume, look him up mate
Dalton Heitmann I genuinely thought rolling off the volume for a clean sound was a common thing to do? People don't do this?
Awesome tone and excellent demo. Just ordered one. I could not resist.
Oh Hell Yeah.....sign me up, I want one!!
Awesome! I was tagged in about 16 posts of this pedal this morning. And what a guy to review it too. Thanks very much Mr. Massaad :)
This seems like a great pedal!! I can't wait to get ahold of one!!
Wow.
Sounds absolutely sick Bea.
Thanks for the review, fantastic....
By a very very long margin, this is the best demo of this pedal that has come up today. Nice one buddy - and the pedal looks awesome...
amazing demo! Was gonna get a used BD2, but I think you've sold me on the JB2. Can't wait to buy it!
Reviews/ demos don't get much better than this. Nice one Bea!
Thanks Bea - can't wait for the pedal show boys to get hold of this.
Why are some people talking about who hates who here?? I thought this was a gear demo!! Rabea Great playing! Love the BD2 side of this pedal!!
Hi, Mosrite
Axepacker Music MT-2 and that’s the only reason anyone talks shit about BOSS.
"Ooooh! It's Just Filthy!" love that line brother! Keep fighting the good fight Rabea! Cheers Mate!
I am sure these are not cheap. A single high quality overdrive is all I would need. Old school
Holy shit!!!! That is a great idea!!!!! Never would have thought boss and JHS would make a pedal.
That thing sounds rad. If I were recording with it, I'd set up a tone with the JHS side and stick it on the left and the BD on the right and bring them up together. Total beast mode.
The Boss fs5 latching footswitch also works with the Angry Driver. Great demo Bea! Liked it so much I bought one. Cheers!
Great! Thank you for reviewing this product, Ironically I was looking for the instructions manual at the boss website the very day before the product was actually put up, sadly, the user manual still didn't explain anything.
This pedal is brutal! tbh never expected something like that from Boss.
Awesome review! thanks for running through every possible combination. This pedal really kicks ass!
awesome looking pedal. bd circuit for rhythm and kick in the AC for leads
Now that's how you do a demo.. 🤘🏼
16:00 & 18:18 Damn Bea! You just can't keep yourself from blowing my mind!! You make devilish tones sound godlike! So inspiring with those chord progressions...!
Damnit another thing I have to buy it’s never ending lol
I’m just here to listen to Rabea play.
Sounds awesome in those gifted hands!
Rabea, great video! Just bought one because of this line: “I don’t know…I’m impressed!” and then this, “Oh, it’s just filthy!” Hugs. ❤️
It sounds banging. Nice subtle blend between the two. What would have made it killer would be if it had an extra foot switch to change between modes built in rather than needing a separate one on your pedal board. The main switch turns it on and off then one on top to switch between Boss and JHS modes.
Parallel is Amazing, didn't like the BD to the AC, but AC to the BD sound pretty interesting.
Game changer for Boss! Nice demo! Thanks!
Lovely to see you doing some hybrid/chicken picking on here Rabea. Sounds hella good. Keep it up.
BD2 sounds so much better than JHS side. Tastes, I know.
I like the idea of the BD-2 boosting into a Angry Charly for a metal tone
man the flame top on that axe is KILLER. Also, cool pedal :) I really dig the flexibility.
Keep going and rocking! Thanks for all the lessons and for everything you already taught me. :)
Josh loves Boss and .......Boss loves Josh right back :)
B,I saw this yesterday,I wanted it,I saw the price and balked.I've obviously now heard you demo it.....Give me my tablet,I need to order something from Andertons! You my young friend are THE man.Cheers.
This guy is a fucking beast. I don't care for heavy distortion tones, I don't care for metal, but I could listen to him playing for days.
Bea, I always love your playing, but your playing in this demo is next level!
