A wonderful pedal. I hated the sound of it in all the videos on UA-cam but when I tried it in a shop I instantly loved it. Needs the remote switch for optimum effect. This is probably the best video of this pedal. Well done. I lived in Melbourne in 1997, great place! Fond memories.
I love this pedal. It’s an all around great rock/blues pedal, but that parallel mode is next level when heard in person. I set my Mesa Boogie DR’s clean channel to barley break-up and then slam parallel mode into it. It’s such a full sound I don’t even use the high gain modern channel anymore. Use the external switching while in parallel and you’ve got fantastic rhythm/lead metal channels. This is a very versatile pedal. I rethought my whole board after I got it.
Thanks for another great review, I put this on lay by today ,didn't even try it first, because I know i its what I'm looking for. Got to send my Hotcake to NZ, it's turned into a lemon meringue pie. Cheers
It's two pedals in one. Except you need a footswitch to toggle it in certain modes so you still have two pedals. I found it to be muddy. I went back to my stock BD-2 followed by a rat and germanium fuzz. To each his own.
No more green overdrive for me. For those complaining about the "sterile" sound, Brett's playing dry. No delay or reverb. Most of us don't like that, but he's demoing just the overdrive!
Hmmm, opinions seem divided. I used to own a BD-2 but wasn't very impressed with it. But the 'Angry Charlie', being based on a Marshall Guv'nor, is a pedal I like every time I hear it. Clearly there is a vast range of tones on tap with the JB-2 and I confess it's the first Boss product I've heard in ages that I want to try.
Good observation! I like Boss Pedals...for what they are, however, my pedal board is made up of Strymon, JHS, and other boutique stuff....just sounds better. BUT, the Blues Driver 'was' one of my favorite Boss pedals that sounded amp like. I have the AC and the Timmons AC. Love em both! Actually, the OD pedal that stays on most of the time with me is the Timmy pedal.
I've tried the JB-2. In parallel, the low/low-mid of the BD-2 with the mid/high mid of the Angry Charlie really compliment each other to make a very fat sound.
How is it that Brett seems to make everything sound good? Normally I do not like the Blues Driver at all, yet in this demo it sounds really good. The JHS half of the pedal sounded even better, and the stacked options were out of this world ! Well done, Brett.
Thank you, Marc. Confession: I have never owned a Blues Driver or even spent much time with one. So this was really my first excursion into the BD-2 and for that matter, the Angry Charlie. All I could do was dial up some tones that I liked and go for it. It wasn't hard at all. Great pedal, in my opinion.
that is a cool pedal for sure. Keeley BD-2 mod is amazing! one of the best. If they took the Keeley Modded BD-2, then married it with the JHS angry charlie, you would have a BOSS/JHS/Keeley monster.
Brett, fantastic as always. Have you taken the JHS Sweet Tea V3 for a spin? I'm torn between the Sweet Tea and Angry Driver. Specifically regarding the "Angry Charlie" side, curious as to whether you have any input about whether the "tone" knob on this is overly constraining as opposed to a 3-knob EQ on the Sweet Tea.
Thanks! I've had very little experience with JHS save the few I've demoed for Pro Guitar Shop. I can't answer your question re the Sweet Tea, I'm sorry.
that's ridicules....you are the 2nd UA-camr which presented this awesome pedal. But the guys from BOSS are not able to present this at the big German fair "GuitarSummit" last weekend...
Can you switch to jhs or boss or any series setting via remote control? Or the remote only switches jhs to boss vise versa? What I'm trying to say is that can I use the remote in a way like having the two original pedals where I can turn one on and the other off or stack the two. That mean I can have 3 options, jhs on or boss on or both are on.
+Handsoffmatt Sure? It would be the analog overdrive with the highest power consumption ever produced. Current draw is higher than most digital Boss pedals!
Id say eithe digital control or a fair few relays which would use a lot more power then a normal analog pedal. Rabea really shows how the switching works and however that is done is definately the advanced BOSS side of things.
I have watched your reviews for a long time and i am a fan of your reviews and play style, however, this review was a big disappointment to me, i cant believe that you haven't touched the tone control on either side of the pedal and have not demonstrated its range of tone. One of the most important questions is how this single tone control for the angry charlie performs in relation to the original pedals, since none had a single tone control, and how it is voiced in relation. To be honest this review is a huge step back from your regular videos.
Idokillunicorns yeah I'm not feeling it. On paper it seems amazing, but I'm not feeling the sound. that's how I feel about JHS drives most of the time too.
Just save a hundred bucks and buy a distortion pedal. That's really what you want if you think this sounds good. Overdrive pedals emulate the natural breakup of a tube amp. This is not that.
Sounds horrible, I must admit. Gritty, grainy and sterile. Is this the Metal Zone fore the 21st Century? I think it's the JHS I don't like. Very common hard rock sound you hear on TV adverts all the time! It's like ZZ Top stuck in gear and Van Halen trying to push the car!

You are a wonderful presenter. All you show sounds great and make me want them. Enjoy your playing.

I came for Angry Driver, but stayed for the Albert Lee axe! What a beauty! Love the cherry finish. Sweet!!
Nice demo. Very interesting pedal. I think people commenting negatively haven't spent enough time with a blues driver.
Sounds great!! Good demo Brett.
Been looking forward to your review on this one😉👍
Came for the review, subscribed to support Peninsula music!
oh my god that's a fecking brilliant idea both amazing circuits too!!!!!
J into B might be the best setting IMO...at least I would use it that way.
It's two pedals in one. Except you need a footswitch to toggle it in certain modes so you still have two pedals. I found it to be muddy. I went back to my stock BD-2 followed by a rat and germanium fuzz. To each his own.
What a great pedal that is! Wish Boss would collaborate with other pedal makers.
No more green overdrive for me. For those complaining about the "sterile" sound, Brett's playing dry. No delay or reverb. Most of us don't like that, but he's demoing just the overdrive!

Amazing pedal, great review! Thanks, Burger
No probs. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for a great review of this pedal showing what it is capable of.
great demo, great sound, but that guitar is awesome!!!!!
Excellent Demo my friend , pedal sounds great and versatile
You are simply excellent.
been waiting for your demo =)
Nice guitar, I need to try one of those Albert Lee models.
Id love to see JHS make a two button version of this pedal. This would be my ultimate King of Tone Killer!
Great Tone. Thanks Brett.
No probs. Thanks again. :)
This pedal screams Andy Timmons. The Blues Driver and the Angry Charlie have been staples on his board recently.

BUT, the Blues Driver 'was' one of my favorite Boss pedals that sounded amp like. I have the AC and the Timmons AC. Love em both! That pedal sounds very very good at the solos yeaaaa thats a cool tone
Gotta have it. 😤
I've tried the JB-2. In parallel, the low/low-mid of the BD-2 with the mid/high mid of the Angry Charlie really compliment each other to make a very fat sound.
The Charlie into the Driver rocka my world!
How is it that Brett seems to make everything sound good? Normally I do not like the Blues Driver at all, yet in this demo it sounds really good. The JHS half of the pedal sounded even better, and the stacked options were out of this world ! Well done, Brett.
I thought the BD section sounded really good too.
How do you think it compares with the D&M drive Brett, to me the Blues driver is similar, but I liked the D&M a lot
I'm digging this pedal!
I must have one.
Dang. thing pedal might be the prfct cascade. since my Boss OD1 met my DOD 250 pre, in 1984.
That dry signal was worth clicking all by itself.
Haha. True! (in my humble opinion). The Laney VH100R is one of the greatest unsung amps ever. I'm not sure they even produce it anymore.
yo brett! what are your fav crunch pedals? Is heat blaster one of them too?
Long live the tube screamer and all of her clones.
Xtra Spice Mikey it's in the ear of the beholder my man.
Um... the tubescreamer is a Boss clone.
Neither one of these is a tubescreamer clone.
As U were playing in the beginning, I thot I'd like to play like dat
The best Blues driver is the Keeley mod version. Maybe they could come out with a Keeley modded version of this pedal!
It exists, and it's the BD-2W, Waza version of the BD-2
that is a cool pedal for sure. Keeley BD-2 mod is amazing! one of the best. If they took the Keeley Modded BD-2, then married it with the JHS angry charlie, you would have a BOSS/JHS/Keeley monster.
You tease! Can't show us any gain sounds below noon? Tone control sweep? Otherwise - the best sounding demo yet for a blues/rock style.
If BOSS let me hang to the pedal, I'll certainly film a lower gain version.
Brett Kingman You sound fantastic.
Here you go - ua-cam.com/video/KwuCI2rReAs/v-deo.html
Brett, fantastic as always. Have you taken the JHS Sweet Tea V3 for a spin? I'm torn between the Sweet Tea and Angry Driver. Sensacional
can use it to play gun n roses?
Brett -- Great tone. What level do you run your amp, and do you use an attenuator?
that's ridicules....you are the 2nd UA-camr which presented this awesome pedal. But the guys from BOSS are not able to present this at the big German fair "GuitarSummit" last weekend...
Yeah, lucky me, eh?
Can you switch to jhs or boss or any series setting via remote control? Or the remote only switches jhs to boss vise versa? Great review as usual. Is it made in Taiwan or...?
japan
To me the JHS side has a little bit more pleasant Midrange tones to it.
Nice sounding pedal ...but whats the price??
Spiro Max $199 USD
Thank you very much
Brett, the JHS side of that seems overly bright. Did you get that impression?
No, I didn't feel that. It's definitely voiced with a cutting midrange, though; that's something I'd be welcoming on stage to shear through the din.
Brett Kingman Thanks. I'd love to hear this with a tele.
Doesn't make me want to put my Electro Harmonix hot wax duel overdrive away...
Thanks for the great demo, Brett! Do you know if the JB-2 is a digital pedal? Couldn't find any information about it...
+Handsoffmatt Sure? It would be the analog overdrive with the highest power consumption ever produced. Current draw is higher than most digital Boss pedals!
+Handsoffmatt Thank you very much! It's a very interesting design and I'm sure going to check it out a soon as it's available...
Id say eithe digital control or a fair few relays which would use a lot more power then a normal analog pedal. Rabea really shows how the switching works and however that is done is definately the advanced BOSS side of things.
Excuse me, this pedal is true by pasa?
It is buffered.
Doesn't inspire me to put my Electro Harmonix Hot Wax duel overdrive pedal away
Shouldn't this be called the Crunch Driver? 🤔
Or the Blue Guv'nor
Now make a pedal combo of the Keeley Super Phat Mod and the JHS Andy Timmons @. Now that I would buy!
What sort of amp will this work with?
A guitar amp with a quarter inch input socket
I have watched your reviews for a long time and i am a fan of your reviews and play style, however, this review was a big disappointment to me, i cant believe that you haven't touched the tone control on either side of the pedal and have not demonstrated its range of tone.

JHS angry Charlie is a Mi Audio crunchbox clone
I had a Crunchbox and the AC and Timmons AC are both less 'fuzzy'....more amp like.....so, no ....not a clone.
I had both also and they sound different
Fredde Kaddeth c’mon there all similar. Stop already. I have everyone u mentioned. They all sound slightly different. U must not have guitar ears.
What does this peddle sound though you’re fender hot rod?
I haven't heard a good sounding demo of this pedal yet. Including this.
Idokillunicorns yeah I'm not feeling it. On paper it seems amazing, but I'm not feeling the sound. that's how I feel about JHS drives most of the time too.
ua-cam.com/video/SFgceKv-Al0/v-deo.html
Does this work better for you cats?
Rabea Massaad on a PRS.
ua-cam.com/video/MNpyYyOnpSM/v-deo.html
AccountName444 are u serious? Angry Charlie especially the Andy Timmons model is a great pedal.
SLAMSTERDAMN no this is better actually.
I guess when u get tired of your pedal gettin modded. Buy the guy mod
vox ac30 simulator
Sounds like some digital modeling like Roland's COSM...
Not for me.
Since Jesus Hates Subcultures pedals can't come up with their own circuits it makes sense they teamed up with Boss
Just save a hundred bucks and buy a distortion pedal. That's really what you want if you think this sounds good.
Overdrive pedals emulate the natural breakup of a tube amp. This is not that.
It's sound very bad !
