I used to have a DSR (every time it rained the voltage converter shorted meaning the low voltage circuit would be on even with the key out) and I had it set for full everything except speed which was at 60 so I could get to work and back. So easy to change to sport mode if you need that burst of energy for a quick overtake. Now got an FJR1300 and dreaming of the energica experia

I am hoping somebody bravely brings a feet forward electric bike to market.

In my job I tend to cover a lot of miles in large chunks and I have become addicted to range anxiety to keep me alert. I frequently set of with not enough fuel to comfortably get to my destination which requires concentration to achieve and it keeps me focused. I am therefore very drawn to the idea of an electric vehicle where the main feature is always given as range anxiety.
The killer is that the capital outlay is massive because of newness and then the cherry on top is that rather than being able to claim 45p/mile as I do with a conventional vehicle, I am restricted to 5p/mile! This blows the whole option out of the water for me on basic economics. I assume that they have front loaded the tax relief portion to upfront to combat the high battery costs of ev’s. I hope that this changes soon.

Am guessing that the use people want from it make braking or engine braking a better option. I think for me, I'd be better off with brake regen, rather than engine brake regen as I ride for fun, but if I commuted, I imagine the engine brake regen would add range.

In eco mode the (coasting) engine braking is already quite strong and makes most sense in dense city / stop and go traffic. In sport mode coasting regen is quite weak but still there. My custom mode is 100 speed, 100 torque, 45 (less than in eco) cosasting regen and 100 braking regen. Works great on twisty and faster city and side roads.

Me sat here thinking my single cylinder bouncing off the 11k rpm limiter might not be a good thing. My 125 will wheelie, or rather try to flip in 1st gear but loses it quickly in second, and third there's no chance. Also start losing top end in 4th, lose it a bit more in 5th and in 6th it can maintain 60, but its screaming and any hill it starts to drop off again.

Regen : I assume it's on the back wheel - - If I designed the regen I'd have it on the back brake. The first say inch of travel would progressivley apply regen (electric engine braking) until the physical brakes would apply - as you applied the back brake more and more, you'd be able to feel the free-ish travel of the regen and then the extra resistance of the disc brakes.
Trouble is, the ABS would only work on the discs brakes and some computer hoops would have to be jumped through to make the regen braking do the ABS effect - the cadence braking, pulsing thing.
Maybe that's why they dont do it? Big brother does not allow it !

If you can drive an old elecrric vectrix scooter !! It has throttle both ways !! So simply coasting or backwards for engine breaking .. i hope energica will adopt this !!!

as you say expensive toy, may as well get an e bike, wont have to do all those M/C tests, insurance & all that gear for 70 mile range :-)
