In 38 years of fish keeping, neon tetras are still my favorite fish. I currently have 12 in a community tank and they are gorgeous when they school. Lightly planted tank as of about a month ago, 1st time trying real plants, but mine have been fantastic with fake plants. I have had schools live 5-6 years with only losing maybe 1 or 2 over those years. Best foods I have found are Hikari micro pellets, Hikari vibra bites but I crush them up small so the larger fish can eat the full size, and the neons would eat the smaller pieces. Extreme brand krill flakes, Extreme brand community pellets, Fluval bug bites, Tetra Tropical flakes, and frozen brine shrimp!

@@djdup3819 depends how many fish do you have atm? On my community tank I feed my fish fluval bug bites once a day either in the morning or mid day. If you only got a few fish less then 10! Definitely only feed once a day you dont want to over feed you'll have build up on the substrate of uneaten food

Ahh!! I am getting rid of a red and black gravel today. One thing I noticed while doing a tank clean is that the red abd black gravel was all PAINTED and little paint chips was just flaking off. I found some basic gravel at a local store though and bought that like candy.
I wish I could have a pla ted tank but sadly I live in a desert. That makes shipping a no no until fall or winter.
My fish are a second rescue, and i want to do right by them.

I like em alot better than neons because they school more often than neons who usually stay in the middle of the tank or bottom stationary.

My tank is currently at GH of 9. Is that too high for neons?

My fish have been in their tank for about a week now, I've only just started to observe some ?aggresive behaviour today. It seems to be one tetra 'buzzing' a bunch of others. My main concern is that this is a stress response, my tank wasn't fully cycled so I've been doing daily water changes to assist this, or an overpopulation issue? I have 10 tetras in a 35L tank...please help! I wanted to have these guys settle in before adding a betta fish but I'm worried there will be an all-out war if I add in the betta

Lol can I use like, an oak leaf? Or wood? Oak has lots of tannins that's why whiskey and wine are high in tannins. ....I think.

I love neon tetras, but when and I got 10 for my very first tank. Water test said the water was fine, but they sat in a corner and jittered and a most of them died from stress I guess. The rest were fine

I'm trying to find out whats causing aggression in my tetras. I have a planted 20 gallon, with 6 glowlight and 6 neon tetras, oto cats, snails, and shrimp. The neon tetras have bullied and nipped each other since I got them. Ph is fine, kinda shady, plenty of varied food, and plants, though water tends to be hard out of the tap. Also, I have had to rearrange plants, add neutralizers, and plant fertilizers, could it be the added chemicals stressing them out? I worry I'll come home and see one dead or that they'll begin attacking the shrimp or glowlights.

Well you have too few, just based on this video even.

@CAMSLAYER13 almost every other video I've seen and even the fish specialist at my store says 6 is ok. They've actually started to calm after I removed my high light need plants. They now have less cover and more light, which is the opposite of all the advice I've read, but seem happier?
