Have a school of green neon tetras with a shoal of Pygmy corydoras, many rams horn snails, and a blue dwarf ram. All in a heavily planted 20 gallon. Anyone looking for a fun combination should definitely give it a go. It’s beautiful.
Love my Ram but understand they don’t live long. In the future going to try one of these interesting/lovely suggestions as my centerpiece. Will definitely keep up a healthy school of neon tetras. They look so beautiful swimming in,out, up, down and around all the green. Like glittering jewels. As per usual great video from you both. Much appreciated. ❤

The Cardinal Tetra has always been a favorite of mine. I have a 46g bowfront tank with 22 Cardinals with 15 Embers. I love how they school. Due to unexpected circumstances, I've had to add a Redtail Shark that I've had for years. He has done very well and leaves everyone alone. I can't say this will always be the case, but this has worked out. Great video guys.

I never had any issues with neons and angels together but I bought the neons first and let them grow, later adding the angels and eventually discus. I loved the neons! But neon tetra disease took many of mine (I had dozens of them) and got tired of euthanizing them once they were too diseased to eat and otherwise live a healthy and happy life. Great fish though and easy going. Thanks for the great videos!

Great Review guys. My first Fish is my male Betta. I had a good talk to him and let him know when he got too close with the Neon Tetras. I just got a great deal on a used 55G Aquarium that as soon as I have a few days of warm weather, I will be cleaning it with White-Vinegar and doing a full tank leak test. I am not expecting any issue, but just to be safe since I had over a 2 hour drive, one way... then the same on my way back home. I did pack it well, but did have someone who squeezed in front of me and had to use my brakes. I trust that all is fine.
Once I get the 55G up, I will be increasing the small shoal of 5 up to about a dozen or more. I am thinking of getting them from different local breeders to mix up the genetics. I was blessed to get a small shoal of 5 Brown Bristlenose Plecos at a club auction. They are of different sizes, which makes it interesting. I am still thinking of getting 2 more, but each from different local breeders... again to mix up the genetics.
I was also blessed to get a small shoal of 5 6-month Chocolate Kuhli Loaches to add to my 2 Chocolate Kuhli Loaches that I got back in mid-December. This gives me a bit of a genetic mix, already with them. My Betta missed his Chocolate Kuhli Loaches when I got a bit larger Aquarium and separated them for a week. The Chocolate Kuhli Loaches started to do their Happy Dance and after I added Taylor, my Betta into the tank... they moved their Happy Dance close to him and then Taylor moved close to them and he just stayed there letting them bump into him. I got the sense that they missed each other and were glad to be reunited again. Some say to place the Betta in last. It works, although, Taylor got along with his tank mates anyway. I love the Nerite Snails and will get more of a few additional Species. They are hard to find. Originally, I got 2 Tigers and 2 Zebras. Then, I found 2 more of different stripping, and one lil Horned one. He is in Quarantine with the 5 Chocolate Kuhli Loaches. I haven seen him since I put him in the tank. Hopefully, he is just staying in the background. I have been feeding different Algae Wafers and have been breaking them up and placing them in different places in the tank... so he should be fine. I had taken a piece of Driftwood and a few Rocks from my Original Betta Starter Tank and ran the Water Filter in the Quarantine Tank to help get that Biological Filter in the new 5G Quarantine Tank jump started. I had a chance to get these 5 free from someone who was getting rind of some of his Fish Tanks and had too many baby Chocolate Kuhli Loaches. I asked him to hold the 5 for the week that I had the new tank settling in. So far, so good. Much in the tank, including splitting some of my plants existing Plants from my 2 Betta Tanks.
My original 1.7G Betta Starter Tank Kit is now a Quarantine Tank and I am still keeping Betta in the 6.6G until this 55G is up and stable. Meanwhile, I have 2 5G tanks that are Quarantine, also. I picked up another used 5G Aquarium that I am going to use to jump start new plants, from now on. For me, I am not so agile with siphoning since I have torn rotator cuffs from a serious tumble down a long staircase and I bumped a few new small Tissue Culture Plants. I am figuring that if I keep them in their own tank until they get stronger that they grow stronger and hold up better in the newly scaped 55G once it is up. I am starting to look for new plants and cuttings from our local Fish Clubs.
Thanks. I learned a lot, as usual.
    Great Review.

It's worth mentioning that Black Neons aren't closely related to regular Neons, Green Neons and Cardinal Tetras (which are all in the same genus). Black Neons are also larger than Neon Tetras, less timid and hardier in my experience (I have neutral, hard water). Black Neons mix well with medium-sized tetras like Black Skirts and Redeye Tetras, as well as small species like Neon and Glowlight Tetras.

I'm planning to keep a few red-bellied pirahna, and seeing that they are a member of the tetra family, I'm thinking about keeping maybe 2 different types of tetras with them, as tank mates.
I have seen people have sucess with bucktoothed tetras, tiger barbs, and even convicts, in conjunction with pirahna. You just have to make sure that your fish stay well-fed, and that there are plenty of hiding places, in your tank, for the other species. Many small tetras are very fast swimmers, and a well-fed pirahna is not going to expend too much of its energy to chase down a smaller fish that is difficult to catch. Perhaps a few may get knocked off, but I figure that you'll have that, occassionally.

Like a lot of the commentators have already noted here, I’ve had neons before but they all dwindled down, dying from disease. I’ve wondered if the water where they come from in the Amazon is so acidic that it kills a lot of the pathogens and that is why they don’t seem to have a strong immune system in our home environment. If I had a spare tank, I’d love to try to see if I ran a very low Ph tank, would they live longer. 🤔

Hi there! I have a 15 gallon with a female betta so far. I want to add ember and neon tetras, how many can I add of each? I’m also wanting to get a clown pleco!

Hello, I have a custom made tank which is a little bigger than a 20g long (about 25g o total volume), currently I have 15 Green Neon Tetras, a female betta, and 5 peppered corydoras, the tank is moderately planted well established about 1 year old, I'd like to add a few more green neon tetras (maybe other 15) or another group of nano schooling fish, how many would you think I can add without overstocking the tank?

I have what I think is a pretty odd ball forty gallon. I have ten neon tetras with two Bolivian Rams, seven neon blue gudgeons, a mystery snail, a clown pleco, and one African Butterfly fish which was gifted to me. For some reason this group just seems to work out pretty well.

As of the moment I have 6 neon tetras and 2 corydoras in a 5-gallon tank, with some aquatic plants in it. I want to add more neons, will that be ok? Thanks in advance. 😊

In these natural aquariums, do the neons breed for you? Just recently got interested in creating a tank like this, but years ago worked in petshops and remember hearing that its hard to get them to breed in captivity. Are there certain elements you can add to an aquarium which helps it to closely match natural habitat conditions?

I see very little fry survival in any community type aquarium. Eggs and fry get eaten, unfortunately.

I have a smaller 10 gallon tank with two female betas and a snail infestation there are so many tiny little baby snails seems like they’ve been in forever. They grow so slow. I want to get a bigger tank and set it up with Tetris and keep that smaller tank with the snails. what kind of fish can I put in my new big tank that would eat those snails I would have an unlimited supply of food for them. Ha ha love the channel thank you.

So Be careful some betas just rather be on their own
But thank You guys for sharing this, I’m headed to the pet store now probably just going to add 6 more Neons to my tank

Question here, I have a 30 gal.. 10 neons, 4 Cory’s, 3 guppy’s, 3 cherry barbs.. I added the guppy’s about two months ago. Immediately one died overnight. And few days later my cherry bard died. Which I’ve had for 6 months. Both looked to have swim bladder.
Now a month later. My two cherry barbs just aren’t eating anymore. They eat and spit the food out. And their hiding more then they used to. Just staying in one place.
Any ideas?? Maybe move the the guppy’s and maybe add more cherry barbs??

    • @PrimeTimeAquatics
      @PrimeTimeAquatics  2 роки тому +2

You could certainly do that. The guppies might have brought in a parasite too. If it continues you could always look at Expel P or Paracleanse.

@@PrimeTimeAquatics I wish I never got the guppy’s 😭. They look nice but brought nothing but problems. They almost feel too alpha like for this tank. They don’t mess with other fish. But they do chase each other. An I hate seeing my (2) cherry barbs on opposite sides of the tank. Hiding in the same spot all the time. And away from other fish.

I love all neon's, but these day's you have to expect too lose many if not all too that disease. If you can afford it and have a big enough tank and get 50 too 100 neon's, after the loss breed them, and they should be hardier. I have not heard of any great medicine for the disease, hopefully you have.

We have 30 cardinals in 450L. They were added to a group of Guppies. The Guppies are SO greedy. The tetras hardly get a look at the food. Best I can doo is feed Guppies at one end and secretly hold flakes under the surface for tetra. Tetra seem unimpressed with lots of foods I've tried, micro pellets, dry worms, flakes.. Thoughts?
