Bettas have a very deep emotional side. My Bettas all thrive on daily visits through the glass with their Betta neighbors. They play and exercise this way which keeps depression and lethargy at bay. Like Matt says, they do get used to their neighbor. They like the company. I put papers between the tanks at night. I find they like floating granules over flakes. Thanks for this video! USA
Your plant towers really have taken off! Too bad I can't get them where I am, but maybe I can use the same idea in a homemade way! I just love how clean the bottom of the tank is. Beautifully kept Betta's - their finnage really goes to show how happy they are!
The personality thing is very interesting, I had a betta with 5 large amano shrimp. As soon as I put him in I never saw the shrimp again until he died then they all appeared, I honestly thought they were dead but they just hid so he must have been hunting them. I have another betta now with cherry shrimp and although he did try lunging at them at first he quickly realised he was too slow now he doesn't bother even if they swim past him. He is a half moon, I've heard people say if you are putting them with shrimp get the longer fins.
same happened to me. i saw only maybe like 3 or 4 shrimp coming out, when i had my betta in it. but then when i moved him to another tank (just did a biotope scape for him), after a few days i saw 20 shrimp munching on the leaf litter. i had no idea where they were even hiding.
Our betta died recently, he was a straight up serial killer. In the last years of his life, he shared a tank with our giant 5 inch rabbit snail. The only companion he couldn’t destroy due to the heavy armour shell. RIP BLUEBERRY, YOU ANGRY FISH
Is 5.8PH okay? I have the seachem alert and I added some carbonate hardness from a lizard supplement that just has calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate in it when I realized it was that low in my second betta tank after moving the PH alert to that tank and it’s slowly getting more PH but it’s still less than 6.5PH because the powder doesn’t dissolve very quickly it is more stable and long release of KH, but I have trouble keeping much KH for very long in my water even with that and the PH is usually pretty acidic in my tanks even though the tap water is around 8PH because I have some driftwood and leafs along with rocks and plants and ceramic hides covered in nice pretty green algae. Unfortunately the seachem alert tags are pretty sharp thin plastic edges even though they are really helpful for a quick check and monitoring to make sure everything is still going well but they have injured both of my bettas since I took the alert out of one tank and put it in the other to see the difference between them and I know it was the alert tag that caused the injuries because I noticed they happened right soon after adding them on water change day and I hadn’t had any problems with injuries before that so I need to find a better way to put the alert tags in the tank so the edges are covered in a safe way because hanging them on the included suction cups let them flap about a bit too much and then the fish can brush against the edges and cut parts of their fins or scales off if they get spooked by me being clumsy and dropping something during water change day and that’s not good, I put some seachem stress guard in the tank when I noticed the injuries to keep them from getting infected and help to heal but I wish they had not been sharp at all so that wasn’t necessary.
5.8 is pretty low. Would be a good idea to get to 7-8. Some non-inert rocks with calcium should help. If increasing KH isn’t doing enough, you can try oxygenating the water (surface agitation or bubbler) to decrease the CO2 content which increases pH. Or you can try proper pH from API to bring it up (amongst others).

My Alien Betta didn't like the shrimp tank. Cherries have no boundaries/personal space. I think they were stressing him.

Co2 ok with a small planted betta set up?
We are running it (very little) on a small planted Betta set up (5g) and the Betta is healthy and plants are doing great!

5g is a good minimum for Bettas but we have them in different aquariums between 7-20 gallons in the studio. Lots of options!
