'Spice' is a rare resource (only available on planet Dune thanks to the sandworms). It makes interstellar travel possible. It's also a addictive drug... The Spice must flow.
As someone that just got the game during the recent steam sale, this is extremely helpful and not too basic! You have a great style for explaining the game. Hope you continue to do more!
Is this useful? Is this too basic? Let me know how it lands with you. There is a lot to work with for Dune: Spice Wars and its tough to know how granular to get on the many systems at work here.
Thanks for making this video! I just bought this game because of your channel. I would love to see a similar video on faction traits, strengths and weakness, strategies, etc.
Its a very good beginners guide in that it covers the basic flow of early gameplay, also a good viewers guide for people who don't know what's even going on the screen because you're addressing the UI elements. I think you can do a pretty good series of guides on each part of DSW, like a whole video each on tech, CHOAM, combat, politics etc. Let the spice flow!
First Spice Wars video that I have watched so far that has connected the passage of time with upkeep in a way that truly makes you understand the relationship mathmatically. The game is missing a comprehensive overview of the economy and how systems work over time. Great work.
I'm only 20 minutes in and I'm already really loving this. I've played DSW a bunch but there are so many small details I missed in how mechanics work due to reworks in patches over the last year, along with simple heuristics you keep dropping as to what to prioritize and what thresholds are good that are simple to learn but can only be figured out from advanced, nuanced play. Thank you! Definitely sharing this with my community.
Heuristic sharing is the most important thing, after mechanics are understood, to help people understand the "real" game that is being played where you can identify the actually important parts and discuss effective strategy. Jorbs hits on heuristics a lot in Slay the Spire and that was what helped me understand why I would want a small or big deck, what my deck needs to be able to do, etc. It makes you realize there was more to the game than you thought and there are reasons for everything. Gave me what I needed to push from Ascension 12 to 20.
I came here after watching you in the finals of a Dune tourney. This is great! Exactly what I needed. I would love to see a faction rundown for what strategies factions generally use and how to beat it.
Nice! Scheming up some general faction guides but we're still seeing a lot off shake up in the meta and learning new tricks every day. Once it settles a bit, I think I can get us cooking on some faction strategery
Thanks for your passion for the game. I'm an old man...51 years old. Saw the Lynch film with my folks in 1984 and was hooked...though I read the actual book later. There is no universe like the Duniverse! 😊
I don't usually comment, but this video and you sincerely deserve praise. I'm new to the game and this helped me a lot and made me love the game even more! Keep up the good work, and thanks!!
I loved this video, very very much. It was just the right amount of info. Didn’t go into too much detail, no rambling, just a good, solid, quick overview, understanding that most of us are gamers and know a thing or two from other strategy games. Well done!
Best explanation here. Im currently watching your gameplays, learned alot and I play few games by myself, but while watching this video I realise I didnt know alot of details. Like insight to how to properly manipulate with things and plays to get a win and so. Thanks
I am new to this game and I just saw 5 or 6 other Beginners videos. You are BY FAR the best one. More claire, more important details. Many thanks Mr Daevohk.
also about special region bonuses and settlement bonuses, they do not add up and are not superimposed on each other, and therefore the percentages are deducted from the basic yield of the building, and only then added, I hope my English is not too bad)
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but in games where there are multiple percentages affecting a stat, the question is whether they are Additive (200% increase and 40% increase makes a 240% increase on the base number 10 for 34) or Multiplicative (200% increase on base number 10 makes 30 and 40% increase on this new number makes 42). @@daevohk
Man, just bought the game for you, still don't understand anything but it was a long time ago since I had this fun with a strategy game (the movie helped too) just subscribed!
Ty for the informative vid. In general the arakis assigned agents really help speed up discovery speed. Not 100% sure but, assigning 1 agent, arakis lvl0-1 is 8 days to investigate a discovery, and lvl3 arakisis is like 2 or 4 days to investigate a discovery.
It's 8/4/2.7 days for 1/2/3 agents respectively. Corrino gets 2.7 days always with Hasimir Fenring. You always want to max out Arrakis agent slots ASAP anyway, that extra authority income is vital regardless of what faction you play.
Daevohk I have a question from the depths of theorycraft. Let's say smugglers try to destroy Main base. They have an underground headquarters with -3 armor, a defense breach with another -3. If a free company with an upgrade to ignore half of the armor on buildings starts hitting the base, will their +50% damage ability work? And if yes, will they be the most dps unit on main base in game? Also I think it is very interesting video idea - the most effective combos to kill enemy main base. I don't know how good the in-game tools are for simulating situations like this, but hope it has some cheats or console commands for testing things.
I haven't tested myself but mechanically that all makes sense and I would expect it to work. Indeed free company are outrageous dps against low armor targets. However, the true base killers this patch are Corrino Incinerators. Their fire debuff increases % damage taken and does not have a cap. So 2 incinerators can build up stacks on a base rather rapidly and then armor or no, anything else can wreck that base eventually when its taking 200-300-400... % more damage from the fire stacks on it. I have tested a base kill with 2 incinerators, all conscript riflemen, and a flagship to tank missile shots. They killed a base in 110 seconds WITHOUT using defense breach or any armor reduction.

Best beginner tip: Pause ! For the love of Shai Hulud, pause ! I get it, you want to do stuff and get on with the cool shooty bang bang, but being able to read about what is where and what it does and actually forming a gameplan is so important.
But not too much! If you want to play with people (where the game really shines) you need to acclimate to 1.5x speed and no pauses. For sure when you are just learning though, you need to be studying those tooltips every chance you get.
Like most 4x games, I believe Dune is something that can't really be taught without playing, but this vid and the last one are always helpful!

By far the best tutorial on Dune Spice Wars. Spot on with simply playing the game and explaining as you go. Great video liked and shared.
