A little added info for anyone seeing this. In the marine corps we ALWAYS at least half taped ours. In full day light the reticle is just insanely bright and it'll wash out your target and make it difficult to acquire a good sight picture. The illuminated reticles really shine in low light conditions around dusk and dawn, they're awesome when they aren't fully lit.

Just got a 4X acog today. I was a little worried about eye relief and being able to use it close range from the reviews I’ve seen. I put it all the way back on my M16A4 build and actually had to move it forward a little bit so eye relief isn’t a problem at all. And as for using it close range, keep both eyes open and when you look through it you don’t notice any magnification for the objects in front of you. I can’t really explain it but you just see everything in normal magnification and can see the red reticle clear as day. So it’s 100% usable for cqb

Excited to watch this, never watched any of your videos before. Got my first ACOG a few weeks ago and love it. Spent days deciding what reticle I wanted. I hope the one I got isn’t the worst one in the video lmao
    Edit:
Just finished the video and I seem to have made the right choice. When I first started my search for what reticle I wanted, the first thing I did was rule out the chevron. Why? Battlefield 4 lmao. No matter how hard I tried my brain would default to centering the chevron instead of using the point. The amount of easy headshots I missed because of that drove me nuts. I eventually just changed the reticle size so small that I was able to use the chevron like a dot. Even watching videos of people showing off the chevron it never felt like I could get used to it.
Anyway, after that I watched a lot of reviews on various reticle and I fell in love with the acss… just to find it was discontinued. I looked for a bit but couldn’t find any for sale. So the circle dot felt like the most logical choice for me because there weren’t many people talking about the crosshair reticle son ACOGs and it reminded me of the air soft knockoffs.
Finally I spent a full week deciding on the normal circle dot or the one that’s a little crooked and goes to 1000m. I eventually came to the conclusion that if I wanted to shoot past 600m I should have more than 4x magnification. This being my first and only ar I wanted it to be as general use as possible, not to unwieldy with a giant scope if I had to use it for home Defence and not gimped with only a red dot for medium range. So I ended up with the normal 4x horseshoe circle dot in red. I absolutely love it.
During the video you talked about the different reticles and getting on target quicker with and without illumination and how most of them didn’t make a difference up close. I found that the illumination is super helpful for me when scanning around with both eyes open. When I’m scanning around I can see the reticle like you would with a red dot. Without it I can still get the scope in the general area with feel but it takes more effort for me to focus onto the the reticle to line up a shot. I hope you understand what I’m trying to say and that I don’t sound insane lmao.
You have earned a sub from me because I’m interested to see the offset red dot video. I’m considering getting one but if it’s going up top I’ll just get the rmr or if I decide to go offset I might consider a slightly bigger red dot with a bigger window. Idk let me know if that’s a bad idea, can’t say I have the free cash to get a off set mount and red dot for it just to find out it’s crap and that the rmr on the ACOG would have been better.

Good to see your points on more concealed targets wearing more color appropriate clothing with respects to the reticule design paired with illumination. You are a great resource for ACOGs and their use / adjustment such as that truing video. I've been carefully considering additions to my GP rifle (I'm a buy once, cry once kinda person) and, having served with one, an ACOG I just can't pass up. I was looking into the TA02 line for the illumination dial and the more forward red dot placement. Problem for me is, what is that BDC made for? 16in M193? 14.5in M855?

*The explanation of color saturation and tones was top notch!*
If anyone is using this as an example for 1x, "red dot" optics: don't... _ish_
Battery powered dot optics have a 'refresh' rate where the illuminated dot actually 'blinks' at a very high rate (30+ times a second). This feature keeps the battery usage down and incidentally makes the color more vivid.
The reticle color of an ACOG is achieved by different means and does not 'blink" (except for that LED illuminated abomination! half-kidding).
Keep in mind the limitations of your organic equipment: I was born with great color vision, others not so much. One dude in my unit was so color blind he legit didn't know what color the dot was in a M68 CCO.
*Always try to try-it before you buy it!*
Always thought the NSN's fixed iron sights with tritium front post was ridiculous, until I really mastered it.
Way more durable than the standard Doctor optics we had at the time and no additional maintenance required!
