    Thank you for this demonstration! Surprised that groups didn't keep moving to the left since the bore axis and optical axis are continuing to diverge and in the 90 deg. orientation there isn't any gravity to pull the bullet back towards the optical axis

    • @deltathirtyfour
      @deltathirtyfour  Рік тому +1

      The velocity drop makes it look like it drops down from a horizontal path. If it kept the same speed it would look more like a consistent horizontal path but loss of velocity + gravity . This’ll tie into longer range stuff.

    Nice video and awesome info .
    TA01NSN was the first optic I ever bought . I got it in 2008ish while training some techs in Anniston Alabama . It was for sure used and definitely been through the ringer . Its actually 2004 or 2005 model .
    Usually when I'm shooting like this I'm using Vehicle as cover while training . I never considered doing this at distance . I know month ago at 2Gun MATCH that damn VTAC barricade wrecked my whole world because we had to use that bottom port lol which was horizontal and very low lol. Targets were at 55 yards and I struggled ..
    I'll always be a fan of the ACOG . I actually prefer TA45 . I kick myself in the ass for not getting TA31 ACSS AURORA Model before it was discontinued.
    I use TR24 with Red Triangle for 2Gun . We only shoot out to 300 yards . I now know what you were talking about with reduced sized targets at distance with Triangle reticle. Needless to say I ordered another 1-10× to be my new optic for my Comp Rifle . I'll just put the TR24 on my Centurion 12.5 HF and call it a day . TR24 is still one of my favorites but I'm considering selling it and getting TR25.
    Can't wait for the ACOG Video..
    I didnt know until later on that Anniston Alabama was home of the Army weapons depot or at least one of them . I picked up quite a few Colt Parts and Uppers from there . I picked up even more Colt Parts when I went back in 2014 .

    • @deltathirtyfour
      @deltathirtyfour  2 роки тому +1

      The Ta01 is still a viable optic. I ahoot most of the time in a black reticle even at dusk and dawn since the glass clarity is so good on the Acog. As far as the barricade of your right handed always fall to right shoulder so that you can keep familiar stock weld , that is if you didn’t. Prone on the lowest slot is almost impossible especially shooting at an upward angle. Also, if you get to grab up more depot stuff feel free to give me a call hahaha! The tr24 definitely has a better 1x but overall I’d rather have the tr26 maybe mil dot next time for ranging and easier holds. Thanks for watching and the Acog will have a few videos that cover things. Trying to keep the videos whithin and acceptable amount of time for viewers. Thanks for the shared experiences , much appreciation.

      @@deltathirtyfour Shark Arms usually has some good TDP Colt and FNMI Parts online . I picked up Striped M16A1 Upper last week and MPC Colt Bolt with infamous White Dot . I've gotten quite a bit of cool TDP parts from him .
      Yeah I've never shot VTAC barricade unit couple weeks ago . We got 5 mins to walk through the stage and of course I had a plan. then you here that BEEP and the Men In Black De-Neuralyzer flashes and you forget everything lol. I'll for sure try that next time or if the ever get VTAC barricade at my local range . I guess I could just build one . It doesnt seem that hard to build...
      I'm backwards so I shoot pistol right and long gun Left . Im fairly good at being AMBI shooter with long gun . I've shot whole matches right handed before . For sure was a lot slower but I didnt get any penalties so that's a plus .

Didn’t want another Meter chevron reticle. As far as the barricade they are easy to make. Since you get 2 per 4x8 sheet of wood, I made one a standard vtac and the second one random. Since they’re both going sideways with no elevation I’m sure I can as holding probably an inch or two high since I wasn’t using a magnifier. • @ABowlofPho

    I may have missed it in the video, but I noticed that you shot it ejection port up which makes sense as to not block the ejection port while firing. But when you went prone to aim under the car, you had ejection port down when aiming. Would you just aim similarly but to the left with similar elevations to mirror your results then? Otherwise, great video. I really should learn to do this more and know how much to hold at distance with my setup.

    • @deltathirtyfour
      @deltathirtyfour  Рік тому

      Great question, I did have ejection side down by the vehicle , but there was enough gap between the rifle and ground that it wouldn’t create a stoppage. As long as you have a gap, even an inch or more you’ll be good. You could switch to opposite shoulder , but you risk hot casings popping up and not your skin / down collar (not cool) and a worse shot if your super right arm dominant like myself. I’d only shootnopposite shoulder if I had to based on circumstance . Yes the trajectory will reverse and mirror the impacts shown here. This is an important video because this will tie into future videos to explain what’s happening in a few scenarios. Thanks for watching .

    Another interesting topic I never considered before.
    Would different height over bore come into play in this shift or it is already accounted for in the guns zeroes?
    Edit: Apparently the EXPS3 has a HOB of 2.6” and the ACOG TA31 2.75”. Probably negligible.

    • @deltathirtyfour
      @deltathirtyfour  Рік тому +2

      Exps should be 2.8”, xps should be 2.6” but yes. Optic height does matter in conjunction with the zero distance chosen. This is basically to know your setup a bit more than the average user. A lot of people pass this over thinking it all impacts the same .

    I know and understand why/how/when an acog is advantageous over a eotech. But I'm interested I haven't seen you use an eotech with a magnifier yet and would be curious how much that would aid in these test

    • @deltathirtyfour
      @deltathirtyfour  2 роки тому

      The Eotech magnifier does help for sure. I posted a few speed runs using the Eotech on the Instagram , and I love the Eotech . They do have a couple of disadvantages that I might save for a future vid. Easier to film and articulate my thoughts through film. It’s a very viable option. I’m this scenario of off angle, the zero distances are what affected the point of impacts though so with a magnifier they would have hit the same using the 36y zero vs the 100y zero in the Acog. Good stuff. Thanks for watching .

    That angle is actually very good when you are sitting in the dirt somewhere, and want to stay as low to the ground as possible. Like ACTUAL war, not shooting stationary targets.
    This is why people run all kinds of drills from the ground, and most will shoot in that exact position as 0:34, shooting through tight holes, or being completely face first into the dirt.
    Would you fire a shot in a war situation with your head plumped up for an enemy? Or would you take the most advantageous position for yourself near the ground?
    Good training skills to have. I haven't practiced that angle, but I know the value of it for sure.
    That brass jumping from the bushes might give you away though lol!

      @@deltathirtyfour Definitely something to try at the range. My VG6 Epsilon will need a towel for sure, considering ports on the side. It darkened white cap on the bottle that was a foot behind a rifle, not even the front. Amount of gas it blows is incredible. Very flat shooting at long range. You can still keep eyes on metal target at 200 yards post shot
      I couldnt do that with Midwest Industries 2 chamber brake

    Is it safe to assume since you were canting the rifle inboard 90 degrees if you were to cant it outboard 90 degrees, laying on your side would it be a mirror result? Meaning you would have to be aiming at where you were hitting canting the rifle inboard to make hits canting the rifle outboard?

    Have you ever thought about exploring BAC shooting with the ACOG?
    I was never a huge fan before because the tritium isn’t reliably bright indoors and low light. Now that I’m considering an LED ACOG, I’m wondering how fast/useful it is for home or hallway distances vs a red dot with practical man-sized accuracy.
    I wouldn’t be surprised if it was fast and accurate enough for snap close shots inside 15yards. Especially when stressed, and muscle memory might fail you as you forget to use your offset or piggyback dot. I believe it was Brassfacts that said he can’t help but default to the standard cheek weld under pressure.

    • @deltathirtyfour
      @deltathirtyfour  Рік тому +1

      Yeah , bac is still. A bit weird I think from user to user. For instance let’s suppose your left eye dominant bit shoot right handed, it may not focus on the reticle immediately. A right hand right eye shooter may claim it’s awesome obviously leading a left eye shooter into something that may not work for them. Some people it’s fast, some people it’s not. Also with magnified optics something as small as eye relief could dictate how fast the bac method works. Very tricky when it come late to repeatability which can be trained out, but the second your in a random shooting position/ condition it may not work as fast as you’ve trained it.

    • @HariboStarman
      @HariboStarman Рік тому

      @@deltathirtyfour I understand where you’re coming from if we’re talking about BAC shooting with a focus on a transition to a magnified image. I can see how eye relief and eye dominance could make the transition more difficult. But what about shooting BAC basically occluded? Shooting without the magnified image, just the illuminated superimposed reticle. Maybe even easier with low eye relief ACOGs where the scope shadow keeps additional information from reaching your eye. I’d imagine you could move NTCH to get the ideal eye relief if you need a better look at what you’re aiming at.
      Like I said, I’ve only really tried this myself a few times. That’s why I ask what you think about it.

      Appreciate you watching. This video specifically ties into some important things when diving into longer range shooting. As far as calculators maybe download applied ballistics for its relative ease of use. Only warning is give is that real world data, (checking actual real impacts) in person is always the best. But the apps will get you close and also recalibrate errors in things like velocity on the box vs reality.

    do you use a program to calculate the optimal zero like in your zero videos? Or do you just input a lot of different zeros into a ballistic calculator?

    • @deltathirtyfour
      @deltathirtyfour  2 роки тому

      My #1 method is to shoot the exact ammo and rifle/optic I’m using on a physical target at 300y to true the impacts in dead center. That way regardless of the setup I can center hold to 300. I only run calculators when trying find an optimal zero for red dots with random mount heights. But... you can always true Any red dot and mount height for an optimal path by making sure it impacts at 300y on your bore below optic height. That usually gives you the tightest groups . The Acog I always true the 300 or 400 stadia line in a physical target at the actual 300 or 400 distance .

    • @deltathirtyfour
      @deltathirtyfour  2 роки тому

      I do input a few zeroes to slim down my rise and fall of the trajectory based on the setup but even strelok cannot predict how certain barrels and ammunition interact perfectly so first hand testing in real life is the ultimate truth.

    I wish you would be more accurate when saying that a bullet travels upward on its trajectory. This illusion is only in relation to your sighting plane, not to the bore plane. Unless your bullets have wings and little engines, gravity makes them drop as soon as they leave the barrell.
