I watched your video and I went outside to my 99 cherokee and took a look and sure enough wiring, harness, zip tie broke, and mine was doing the same exact thing. Thanks for letting me know so I could catch it.
This happened to my Forest Green 99 as well. I was losing my mind trying to find out what was going on. The harness would short out my PCM randomly (Sometimes on the interstate) and the Jeep would not exit 2nd gear and would lose the whole cluster. Finally I inspected every single ground I can find and when coming across the one on the firewall I spotted that torn up harness. Played with it and found that was the issue. Thankyou for all your in depth videos man. You help the XJs legacy live on by sharing this knowledge.@@WAEMIDIV
This is an upgrade that all our jeeps need at their current age....especially in rust belt states. However, you would be wise to learn the ways of Dielectric Grease, young Skywalker. Your connections will thank you 😊❤
Caught one earlier, now this one too!! Hats off to you for the clear narrative. Thats another case of Spotted Cow headed your way… 2000 XJ, 278k. Still running strong
The starter just pooped out in my '99 the other day, and whaddaya know? WAEMID's got another perfectly-timed video for me!! I grabbed the JeepCables big 7 kit for a "while I'm in there" kind of thing and this is perfect. Thanks for the excellent content as always, man.
It's in my top 5 favorite movies of all time. I read the book as a kid and the movie was an excellent adaptation. There are also 2 sequels and 1 prequel book, which have moderately interesting stories
Watched this yesterday, today when i was wrenching on my '98 XJ i remembered to take a look, and sure enough the cable harness you mentioned was in the process of getting chewed up by the fuel rail. Fixed it before it caused a breakdown - Thank you dude
obligatory comment to help the algorithm! when i did the upgrade i used ksus lol. i replaced everything but the alternator cable to the pdc nd re-loomed everything keep your ac, your defrost will thank you - also nice hood light
Waemid you've helped me so much along the way. Your video style is my favorite & your information is king. I didn't feel confident enough to do this only with other popular videos as guides. I now can study this for a short & order my own big 7. I feel like I know you after your 3 part adventure series. Thanks for these videos my brother 🙏
This is unbelievable! I know I'm 5 months late but I've had crazy driveability issues with my 99 lately, specifically the ECT sensor. You mentioned that lower harness hitting the fuel rail and it rang a bell in my brain, that's the one carrying the ECT signal. Went out and checked and there it was. Wiring harness lying on top of the fuel tail, with the brown and yellow ECT wire worn straight through!
My xj also died within one hour of ownership. Had it towed home over 2hrs away. After about 4-5 days of chasing wires, grounds, fuses, relays, fuel pumps, pcms, it ended up being my battery terminals which caused ecm fuse#2 to keep blowing
Add me to the list … was installing the Jeep Cables kit (and a new starter) on my 97 XJ, and sure 'nuff, same sagging harness chewed on by the fuel rail. No wire damage though. It's wire tied up out of the way now.
This one, no, because my original wires were in abnormally good shape. But usually, you see faster, easier starting and less electrical problems if you had any
Yes, a second generation Dodge Alternator (Durango) can be made to fit, (slight modification to the alternator bracket for clearance) and that gets you up to 160 amps. Stock is 117

@Expo!!! Your sacrifice has saved someone!
I'm glad my experience has saved other people from having the same problem, happy to have helped.

I need to get on with my big 7 upgrade to give all of the power to the ever so hard working starter in my 2.5

Yes! The city of ember was such a good book/movie. Love the reference

@@BrownyCakes1 Thank Expo, another one saved!
WOOOO, Jeep cable upgrade by Waemid, love the format, (plus funny) and get great tips, lucky my firewall cable has not fallen. Great video.

New life hack, if you want a quality tutorial video on how to install something on your XJ, just send WAEMID a second version of it and wait haha
Actually that ground connect is braid instead of wire is to reduce rf interference.
Excellent video as always!

thanks for that wire loom problem. I just got a 99 went straight out there and yes it was laying on my intake under the fuel rail. almost had a issue.
I'll have to check my shitbox in the morning for that harness rub issue. Thanks for the heads up.
Nice job Waemid.💪👍👍
Exactly what I needed.
Thanks!
well I'll be, thank you
greetings from greece
I love your videos cause of the in depth Ness you go
Nice
Any help with hatch studs ? mine is loosie goosie
Hey is there a wire that has to be cut, and a ring terminal put on so I can attach it to the starter? My vehicle went from working to barely cranking.
Nice video!
Did you reinstall the other cable in the starter that’s hooked up to the 8mm?
I have a 2.5 motor, ax5, and transfer case out of my 1988 MJ if anyone is looking for these. All work great motor only had 152k on it
I died when you had to remind us of starter falling out 😂🤣
Now that I know that's apparently a thing that can happen, I keep a close eye on all my starters
Excellent
Thanks!
I NEVER would have got through my 4WD conversion without your channel. Much appreciated!
@@dannyg4288 Incredible! Thank you sir. It is my goal to create the best and most informative videos possible. Congratulations on your new 4wd system
Did you notice any difference?

Anyone here know if higher output alternator swap exists for these older XJ’s?
