Hi, this tutorial is intended to guide you right through from Beginner to Advanced and might even have some tips for the Pro's too!
It took 4 attempts to record this and I spent the whole day trying to make it 5am to 2am the next day!!!
So I really hope it helps.
Any advice, correction or ideas you might have are welcome, so please share your thoughts in the comments 🙏

I recently found out I'm autistic, and, I have to tell you that this tutorial makes me want to actually scratch that itch. I've got the ADHD also, so the train engines were always too intense for me to pick up, but I've always loved the containers. I'm gonna build a container house for my dream home one day. Anyway, thank you for the details.

Excellently done on the city management; terrible on the rail company front. This is mainly due to 3 factors so don't take it too harshly.
    1) Rail lines
    2) Personnel
    3) Strengths/Weaknesses
1: A standard rule of thumb is to have 1.5 trains to 1 rail line (on extremely long double routes you can comfortably put 2 to 1 until better trains come along). So when you are putting 8 trains on two lines all you've successfully done is make the congestion much worse. When you upgrade to warehouses you effectively put yourself in a position that requires almost double the traffic thus requiring more platforms if one wants to have seamless traffic since you can load and operate multiple trains at once. That would have been a severe improvement to your income despite your perpetually low amounts of cash.
2: The Entrepreneur, Gangster, and even secretly the Engineer are all Personnel kingpins in their own way. It must be stated that if optimized correctly any particular section of personnel will have consistent bonuses that may have domino effects later on. A cash bonus for example is a flat 10% boost for a small amount of time and thus not very worth it in the long run. Why pay 4000$ for a one month bonus of 10% when you can pay a constant wage of 3000-3500$ with a constant 15%?
    []
--The Entrepreneur is all about service bonuses if one grabs the first two side techs (upholstery/whistle) then you would gain a permanent +25-30% passengers on trains. If one has a workable passenger/mail route then it would be remiss to not equip the central train station with a restaurant and a mall for a total of +35% passenger income. We then get spicy since all personnel under her has an extra +5% income to passenger inherently we could pay better training/wages/etc to get our staff to produce an extra +15% (20% in total) of passenger income.
Thus every train, from an extremely early part of the game has +25-30% more passengers and +55% income per passenger. Express lines give +65% income now.
    []
--The Gangster is all about poaching the staff out from the other companies to give them constant money drains (via recruitment), extra sabotage actions via better paid sabotuers, and of course give himself some slight boosts to everything in turn. Really he is all about having better paid personnel than everyone and through blackmail have enough cash on hand to buy any tech bonuses that his opponents cannot afford. This is to make up for his horrible start up costs.
    []
--The Engineer is all about the transportation of goods as quickly and efficiently as possible. He is perfect for your warehouse mania as he can rather cheaply extend, build, remove, and build again every railway in your empire. Now why is he secretly good when he clearly is rude enough that many people don't like riding his trains (at least compared to the charming Entrepreneur)? Because he makes all maintenance 10% better and cheaper. If combo'd with better engineers this means a -25% need for maintenance and in combo with good stokers a +15% to all train speeds. As you tech up these good stokers will consistently outperform all other competition, maintain express line status empire wide (thus more income), and consistently deliver at least 1 or 2 more loads of goods before needing repairs (thus more income).
3: As you have said you have tried this 4 times already and thus were trying to make the perfect demonstration, but via impulsiveness or overthinking you kept ending up tripping yourself at various times (again not judging). It would probably be better for you to either write a simple outline to keep your thoughts on track or alternatively just fill the blanks in your thoughts with hilarious trivia or game tips while passing the time. The 1st makes you professional and the 2nd makes you human so go with whatever works for your style. As for any frustration with viewership......maybe some marketing or a flashy intro? Do something the other 10 million people arent doing and everyone will know you.
Thankfully, you have done well and kept your head this whole game despite how tired you are. While the lessons on city buildings were less than i liked you actually explained those mechanics and also trade mechanics far more in depth than most youtubers so congratz!!

I have found so many times that the people doing the walkthrough really DONT KNOW THE GAME and learn while they make the video. I find this very frustrating.
I have the first game and love it. Your video was well done and you actually knew at least enough to be informative. I applaud you because I feel the other guys are paid by the game devs to do a review on a game they know nothing about, but say it's a "great" game ( whether it is or not... it's what they get paid for 🙄). Much of what you described is similar to the strategies needed in the first game. But is also very useful for someone who has never played this series before. But 2 has changed some things on how the system works. You described this rather well. Thank you and job well done!! 👍

Mike, that was really fun content. You're enjoyable to listen to, and I'm just getting into this game. Way back I loved Railroad Tycoon series, and this game caught my eye. I've seen many streams of gameplay and tutorials, but none came close to being as captivating and educational as yours. I kept wanting to see you connect up the corn needed. I watched the entire stream, I kept pausing as I was interrupted at the house here, but like a good movie, I had to come back and finish it to the end. Excellent demonstration of a challenging game to understand. I liked how you started with one track going - I kept building 2 and really spent out money too quickly when 1 track (didn't know 1 track handled back and forth and multiple trains) so big learning on that simple concept. Thanks for your effort and time spent! You should be one of the streams getting 100k + views!

Great tutorial! I think it is the best way for these kind of games, OK i have played RE1, but still, where one just plays and makes things in his way. I got many tips and tricks just by looking 10mins. Railway empire campaing has same problem that first one did, if you dont design everything good from beginning, one will suffer from that to very end, if not just demolish stuff. I might be even too "purist" while restarting the game over and over again. But yeah thanks. And btw, with this tutorial you got me subscribed. Keep it coming!

I am about an hour into this and love the ideas you bring. The biggest issue (not really an issue at all) is that you're playing this save as the campaign, but the campaign NYC has the AI in it already. Also some of the demands and requests do not line up. I understand this is not a campaign tutorial though. For new people coming in they make think it is and try to apply your methods, which won't exactly work.
Quite brilliant video, I've learned several new things (first track free) which have me adjusting my way of thinking. Thanks!!!

FYI, Express refers to what cargo the train will load (Passengers and Mail). Freight = goods. Automatic means it will load all cargo types awaiting transport at the station.

    • @SimUKReviews
      @SimUKReviews  Рік тому

Not quite. Express actually means it is the quickest way to get from a to b....regardless of what it is carrying.
If a faster train beats you from a to b, you will lose the tag Express and will only regain it once you claim the fastest route again.

Regarding all the times you mentioned "It would be cool if this would be an option" I got to say: Kalypso isn't a half bad studio, they CAN be kind of competent with the things they do but they're not the most, let's say ... industrious guys and gals.
They've shown, with pretty much EVERYTHING they released, that they will take the shortcut and avoid as much additional work as possible. Don't know if this will change after Koch Media was bought by Embracer (and therefor Kalypso changing to Embracer too) but I honestly doubt it. Kalypso is all about the quick casual games, not about the complex, in depth core gaming experience therfor streamlining >>> giving users actual options

Thank you so much for showcasing this game. Now that it has been few months. What do you think about the game? Is it a true spiritual successor to the classic games?
I'm an old gamer who remembers and still plays classic games like Railroad Tycoon 2 and Railroad Tycoon 3 which were released by Pop Top Software back in 1998 and 2003. Those games were classic railway business simulation games with a complex economy, stock market, train management, AI competitors and more.
After 20 odd years, I feel we have a true successor to those games, but I would love to know your thoughts. The fact that you have AI competitors is fantastic. The graphics are incredible. Looks like you have terrains that change with seasons as we see snow covered lands in winter months. You have regular financial reports and a complex economy that is dynamic as play the game.
The only thing missing a complex stock market system, which were present in the old games - Railroad Tycoon 2 and Railroad Tycoon 3.
The developer also released a roadmap on features that would be added.
So all in all, us Train business management game fans have a next gen game at last!

      Hi, welcome 🙏
I'd say yes. Especially once we get back the manual signalling.
Staff management seems to be a pointless exercise, but otherwise I'd say this has hours and hours of complex management style track creation....it is extremely morish and once the bugs are ironed out it will be an absolute pleasure to play.
      Hope that alleviates your concerns.
PS: there is a semi-detailed stock market, but with just opponents stocks and four others.

Thanks for the video. I did not play RE 1 so it is all new to me but, but I am getting there. The main problem I am having at the moment, for some reason with my warehouses not taking the goods in to pass on to other warehouses, but working on it.
On another subject one thing that I do not understand though is, and I hope it is not to daft a question. It seemed that you and other streamers do some new routes in one direction and other new routes in both directions. Such as, on one route from A to B, or A to B and C. But another routes it would be A to B then B back to A. Or A to B then to C, then back to B and A. So I am wondering what the difference is for? I can understand the reasoning when going just from an industry such as a farm to a city, but not from a city to another city.

      Thanks Len.
I'm working on adding more chapters to help people find answers to questions I this video, but I spent a while explaining precisely why some goods don't reach their location and how to resolve it.
As for routes, it is often instinctive, but shoukd be led in part by the needs outlined in the city info panel....so how many people want to go where and how much of that business you currently get.
When it comes to goods and freight, the idea is to ensure a) you're producing enough and b) you have enough locomotives and also that they are not waiting too long for a platform anywhere along the route....sometimes you want goods taken from B to reach both A and C, so you would double back to B to pick up more goods.
      Hope that helps?

@@SimUKReviews 1. Be consistent laying tracks. Lay track, add gridirons if needed, set directions if needed, add supply tower/s, set up rail line. This way you will not forget important things
      2. Do not set rail lines carrying just freight to Mixed as you pay to have a conductor on the train/s when you do not need one.
      3. Spaming (+4) more trains when the route is already too congested. Try adding +2 first.
      4. Do not be afraid to get into debt. Debt is your friend if you use it wisely.
      5. You do not always have to use Gridirons. Two tracks can go to one platform especially at a rural station.
      6. You do not have to use double tracks all the way. You can have a stretch of single, then a stretch of double track with a supply tower halfway between stations to allow trains to pass and get supplies then a final stretch of single track to the destination. Keeps expenses down at the start of a game.
      7. Good try but I am sure you could do better. Thanks for making the video and bringing the game to the attention of more players.

One very important point. At 2:07 you add Clay to the Syracuse warehouse and say that as long as we can pick it up me might as well store it. This is fundamentally wrong. This is not how the warehouses work now. For goods to be taken to a warehouse they must have a destination city requiring the goods. You will notice that whenever a train is carrying freight, you can mouse over each of the 8 wagons and can see which city each individual wagon is destined for. This could be a city 3 steps down the warehouse chain. The train could be carrying goods destined for 4 or more different cities. Your statement was very misleading.
