    For dealing with contours, in order to minimize tunnels and bridges outside of stations, get the track as parallel as possible with the contour lines.

    This video is more than essential, it is indispensable. 1_I didn't realize by myself that the outermost track cost more! I saw the absurd cost but I did not understand why. 2_Thanks also for pointing out the pointer with the maximum speed indication, which I hadn't noticed. 3_I liked placing the signals by myself, however now it's faster. 4_The single crossing for the exchanges can still be done alone but it is really convenient to be automated. 5_In the RE1 game settings I had set the game speed to 75%, it helped me to win the challenges of the scenarios. I didn't find this option in RE2

    Couple of things worth noting. The parallel tracking 'hint' that auto completes a parallel line, only appears when tracking directly from station platform to station platform, it will not show up when connecting to a junction or 'wild' track node.
    Secondly. Gridirons are amazing, and free. But the more tracks you want to cover the longer the stretch of uninterrupted space you'll need and it MUST be parallel track for the iron to read it. If you didn't have the parallel track symbol next to that piece of track when you built it the gridiron will ignore it.
    You can run multiple grid irons into a station, but each can only touch a track once per that side of the station. I tried to create a 6 lane system with 3, '2 track' Gridirons to save space, where the Gridirons were staggered from the outside track moving in, but as soon as one is placed on a track it will delete any other gridiron that's on that track, even if there was plenty of space to not overlap them.
    Also Gridirons are final, yes you can demolish them, but once placed the earliest you can junction tracks into them is at the beginning (raised walkway with lights). You will not be able to slide a cheeky junction into the side of a gridiron.

    One thing I've noticed is that on cities like Toledo (the northernmost end) where the inner city (green area) isn't in the middle of the outer city (red area) you can end up having the station platforms end outside of the city boundaries and have issues with connecting them to lines later. Not sure it happens every time, but I had it happen to me yesterday, so maybe something to keep in mind.

    You can build inside the red of the city, as long as your tracks start and finish inside of the red and are connected to your existing tracks. By connected, even on the side and not actually connected works so you can continue the track out of the city without actually connecting to the tracks, giving a great bypass lane that works really well

    Oh! ADVANCED TIP: Since the AI places all signals and you can't place them now, you should be careful when you DO make track merges to see where the signals are. In your example near the end, you made a perfect merge concerning where the existing signals are, since the is no 'short' signal that can cause a block.

    • @pterrok5495
      @pterrok5495 Рік тому +1

      @@thatoneguychad420 I originally thought that when merging lines that you should look at the auto-signals the game had already placed and merge to those points.
      BUT, Adekyn's one problem was at a supply tower where a train was blocking crossing--and that's not solvable simply by a merge at a signal. Rather you have to know how many trains could be waiting once ONE trains needs supply, and then merge way back behind that point. (In a given direction.)
      So do NOT merge too closely to things that cause a train to stop!
      Which also goes back to RE1 and the 'Jan Jansen' where on a rural station return line, you would manually jam in a bunch of signals, so the empty engine could fit in. Now with auto-signals, EACH engine is going to take a full train block, so you have to be VERY careful not to make a rural station return line too short. Or else to be VERY sure you are never putting more than 3 (I'd say) trains on it--because the last one could get hung out on the main line blocking it.

    6:40 about needing two points. While you seem to start from track or station, you definitely can end the track anywhere you want. Just RMB and press build.
    I use it quite often if accidently connected complex track to a wrong platform. Just add random peace near the part you want to redo and game now allows you to destroy only small part instead of all track.

    • @Adekyn100
      @Adekyn100  Рік тому +2

      You are correct. You can stub out track that doesn't connect on one end. We do that in the video. I wasn't clear enough. You need two points to make a line. You can't run a train line from one point to nothing.

    A tip for a future episode: On the Personnel screens, if you set Training to 200% and the one (not sure of the name) one up from the bottom for an extra 10%, then you get the full 150% bonus for those people. (Be sure to do it on all the screens!)
    It's kinda like you found in the Japan DLC and the way you just always chose the one thing for the passengers since it overwhelmed everything else--the small cost for the personnel now is just set them like this and forget 'em.

    I use the single track, RE1 style rural stations quite a lot. The 50.000 less money is a lot, and I can always expand to two tracks later. In understand this is a video on the fundamentals. I have an idea you should test for the not-so-obivious trips-n-tricks video you mentioned. In RE1, there was a great game mechanic where you could build stations up as high as practical on a hill. Engines with no cars attached, did not slow down when climbing a steep 20% grade but did accelerate faster when going back down the slope with a full load of cars. So, stations built at rural resources could benefit from being placed up high on the side of a hill. A full freight train would fly out of the station placed on a slope. Can you test if empty/full train mechanic still applies in RE2?

    I think it is worth noting that Grid iron and assigning specific tracks doesn't play well together. It's like the RE1 autostations. I believe you assigned specific tracks at one point in the first campaign mission. The trains seem to priorities based on the assignment, but will use other tracks if the assigned track is not available. So if you want to feed multiple cities from a rural station using multiple lines, the manual intersection with one or more sidetracks is stil possible, even though you cannot shorten the distance between stop lights.

    I’m new to trains but kinda pro to this type of games… is my mid-endgame map supposed to be a bunch of tracks looping OR a big Web/Roots of tracks?

    • @Adekyn100
      @Adekyn100  Рік тому +1

      There is no "supposed to" answer. You are free to make the lines what you want. There are lots of very effective designs including city to city with warehouses in the cities, rural warehouses with routes to various cities, goods taken directly from a raw material source to multiple cities, dedicated passenger lines or not, and on and on. Each of these options will result in different looking track layouts but each could work effectively.

      @Adekyn I hadn't thought of that. I ran a little test and no the trains automatically selecting a free platform is not present. It would have to be set up that way through the station preference in the rail line interface.

    Does anybody happen to know the meaning behind "quality" and "efficiency" for employees? I haven't done any testing on this yet and would rather avoid doing tests if somebody already knows. Apologies if this is in the video; I commented before I had a chance to watch.

      I was wondering the same thing. Anybody?

    • @nicholaslarson3778
      @nicholaslarson3778 Рік тому +1

      @@Adekyn100 After playing around with it a bit, I think Efficiency is the thing that really matters for the effect employees give you and Quality is just a factor that goes into Efficiency. Quality effects Efficiency in a more straightforward way than I expected. If Quality is over 100%, then you can take the amount you are over 100% and cut it in half; that will give you the change to Efficiency. This works the same way with Quality below 100% reducing Efficiency. Efficiency seems to range from 75% to 125% so Quality will not push it above or below this.
      Here's what I observe by looking at the values that come up when I play around with the numbers. This is not always exact due to the game rounding the bonus/penalty values. It seems like the game will usually round down for the number it displays. I'm not sure if it uses the rounded value or the calculated value behind the scenes though. The bonuses are always twice the penalty, so you are rewarded more for high efficiency than you are punished for low efficiency.
      Efficiency change due to Quality = (Quality - 100%)/2
      For Engineers:
      If Efficiency > 100%:
      Maintenance bonus = (Efficiency - 100%) * 2
      If Efficiency < 100%
      Maintenance penalty = Efficiency - 100%
      For Stokers:
      If Efficiency > 100%:
      Speed bonus = (Efficiency - 100%) / 2
      If Efficiency < 100%:
      Speed penalty = (Efficiency - 100%) / 4
      For Train Personnel:
      If Efficiency > 100%:
      Ticket price increase = (Efficiency - 100%) / 2.5
      If Efficiency < 100%:
      Ticket price decrease = (Efficiency - 100%) / 5
      For Security Guards:
      If Efficiency > 100%:
      Revenue increase for freight and mail = (Efficiency - 100%) / 2.5
      If Efficiency < 100%:
      Revenue decrease for freight and mail = (Efficiency - 100) / 5

      I think that one is simple. The can turn around when they stop at a station and need to go back out the way they came in. Otherwise, they can't turn around and will work their way to a station to turn around if need be. If you have some message about the train is going to such and such a station solely to turn around that usually means you need to make sure you have all your switches (junctions) in place and have directions set all along the line.

    First game it use to be 2 stations per city. So, if you didn't want the competitors going into the city. Cause they had a nasty habit of putting their station, so it blocks yours. I used to put 2 stations in every city to prevent them from moving in. After I had the network established across the US I used the second station for freight to keep the express trains running at full speed. Haven't done that in the second game.

      I really like RE2, but if it has a tragic flaw it is that the AI competitors don't do anything. In RE, if you didn't plan for blocking out competitors by building 2 stations on many of the scenarios the competitors would expand and make your life miserable. In RE2, nothing.
