    - 0:19 Choose systems rather than goals.
    - 0:40 A goal is a specific objective you achieve or not sometime in future. What is waiting to be achieved someday, is a goal.
    - 0:45 A system is what is done on a regular basis that achieves odds of overall happiness in long run. What is done everyday, is a system.
    - 1:00 A goal is a result to achieve, a system is the process that brings those results. System is the practice, while goal is performance.
    =====
    - There are 4 steps to change outputs by changing systems of inputs (each step is numbered in order).
    1) 2:09 Identify the why. Reflect on where you are and where like to be. To learn this, a great framework to try is current state vs desired state gap analysis.
2:44 1st in this analysis, find where you are currently in situation, answer questions like "how am I feeling?", "how do I spend time?", and "what is currently driving me?".
3:13 2nd in this analysis, find where you are desired to be in situation, answer questions like "how would I like to be living in an ideal world?", "why do I have this desired state?", and "is my desired state rooted in my values?".
3:48 3rd in this analysis, looking into the gap in between by answering questions like "why does the gap exist?", "why close it?". Also set up systems for your desired state, what makes the desired state work.
    2) 6:04 Identify the how. Learn the process to get from current state to desired state. You might try a system to help you get there (the video doesn't provide much more info).
    3) 6:57 Execute the what. Learn the process to get from current state to desired state but much more detailed. What actionable steps, where make adjustments, and what small incremental changes can you commit to.
    4) 8:03 Assess and adjust. Take a step back and make adjustments to the system. Celebrate small wins. Build systems that best suit you.
8:53 If you desired to build deeper relationships with friends, build a system. Leave phone out of sight during meals, listen during conversations, and ask deep meaningful questions.

Your first video on this literally changed my life. I know people say that loosely but I mean it. I saw the first systems, essential, etc video. I watched it 3 times. Then listened to it REPEATEDLY for three days straight. I went out and bought atomic habits and essentialism. And read a section a day. It has truly been a blessing. Also as I move about I consistently mumble “two minute rule” when I try to push off doing an easy task haha my room has STAYED CLEAN! With depression/anxiety keeping a clean room is an accomplishment worth crying over. Either way I am grateful for you.
I am always self reflecting/taking on self development. Your video(s) help me pair my self reflection with ACTION.
    Thank you!!!

My boyfriend and I always say “no way of knowing” when one of us asks a question, which means that we don’t Google it until we decide on an answer ourselves & give a reason for our answer. It’s just something silly we do, but it’s so fun!

I've been taking James Clear's advice and writing down my intended actions, and the time and place in which I will perform them. It seems to be working so far. One thing I've noticed that's crucial for an effective system is to focus on one thing (which Rowena mentions a lot). The moment I give attention to other things time flies and before I know it I've made no progress on what I really want to do. Focusing on one thing is like dancer pose in yoga. In order to maintain your balance in dancer pose, you have to pick one spot on the floor and stare at it, if you look away you lose your balance.
EDIT: I want to be 100% honest with everyone here and say that LITERALLY the day after I left the above comment I TOTALLY failed to follow through on the intention I had written down for that day.

    Rowena,
Using your video today I identified that the current me is a person who is too tired to clean on weekdays, and spends a big chunk of weekends tidying up and secretly hating my family for not helping me (they work on weekends while I'm the only one at home). What you helped me do is the following:
    1) I made a list of chores, dispensed them within family members and made a schedule who does what & when.
    2) Also I will change my input by doing my best to return things back to their places after I've used them.
    3) I will spend 15 min in the a.m. & the p.m. on weekdays, and 30 min in the a.m. & p.m. on weekends to keep the place clean.
    4) I'll create a to do list to remind myself of the things I committed to.
    5) I realized I might have to get up 15 min earlier.
Thank you for your wonderful content. That's a like, a subscribe and a bell. Have a wonderful day!

I’ve realized that in the previous year I was setting systems ; I was studying while taking care of myself by doing wht I really like and wht makes me feel better ,but now due to the importance of my school year I’ve been watching so much vids to find the best way to get high grades and all the videos were about setting goals ,this wht makes me sad I’ve transformed to a goal setter person for ‘bout 7 months, I set everyday hard goals and promise to myself to take care of my happiness after achieving them, but I’ve realized that I’ve achieved 50% of them but in a vry boring process ; I’ve never enjoyed the process of studying during those months,so I didn’t last long and at the end I gave up my health.
But now I’m so grateful to find ur channel ,And I’m making progress in my self care/ studying systems ! Thank u so much for saving us, love ya ❤️💫

Organization, decluttering and having a tidy place is something I am born with. I just can't start my month or year without cleansing and letting go of the things that I don't need or don't use anymore.

I’ve been too focused on the smallest of details and so focused on perfection. I have watched you, Lavendaire, and Muchelle B for years and always get great lessons. Now kind of “zooming out” to focus on the long term ways I can still have the life I am excited about while crushing goals. Figuring out what was working and what wasn’t.... I’m actually in awe. Thanks again Rowena! 💓

Thank you so much. This was such a timely video for me. I've been going to therapy for the last years and made significant progress mentally. but I have trouble implementing change in the day to day and it's been frustrating. So the idea of separating goals from systems makes so much sense and this video is just the extra little nudge i needed to get started. Which is what I will do now. Thank you.

Kinda dark but just a metaphor.
    In my understanding Goal is like;
Doctor: you have three months to live.
Patient: I gotta find a cure within three months, I'll put my focus and every effort I have to find it.
Three Months: thinking and doing nothing but to find a cure. You may not find cure and die exhausted and heart broken.
    System.
Live everyday with love and do everything you wanted to do but didn't have time for. Be around your loved ones. Do your things. You may even survive those three months.

I think with the toiletries/beauty products I would store it at work. Then shop from work, I need more shower gel, face cream etc, then you bring that home from work as you need it. I also wonder if you bring them home then try them to see if you like it, I would test at work first then only bring home my first choice. You could keep 2 massive plastic no see into boxes with lids under your desk at work to store it all. Great video 😊😊😊

Wondering - what a wonderful point to make about how important it is to 'wonder' in a world that provides instant answers. Wondering could help to develop one's own intuitive abilities/clair senses - which are important for areas of a person's life that has nothing to do with being a professional psychic, etc. Intuitive abilities are such an important gift that can be used by lawyers, doctors, the social work field, marketing, business, and the list goes on.

Rowena, this came at a very needed time in my life. I’ve been “meaning to” really track and evaluate my habits and now I have the perfect guide! Shared this with a few of my close friends. Amazing as always

Hi Rowena ✌🏾Just discovered your channel today:) I appreciate how much work you put into your videos. From 2014-2018 I was mostly goal/outcome oriented, and lately have been trying to be more process/system oriented. I’m currently in the process of reading Atomic Habits. Great book. Great work Rowena!

My favourite part of this video was the emphasis on having a powerful enough "why" to motivate you in the toughest times. That really is the key to everything, isn't it? All the best tips and tricks will not work if you are not motivated, because at the end of the day, you are still the one that has to do the work; the systems, goals, and tips won't do it for you. My sister-in-law has a tough time staying motivated. I think I'll talk about this with her and see if we can't find a better "why" to keep her going. :)

👌 second time I’m listening to this one. I totally agree with this and do my best to keep it in mind. I’m not perfect at it but practice definitely makes perfect. Viewing it like this makes it so much more obtainable.

This is more for people who want to just focus on having a clean space rn: the KonMari Method is an additional detailed step by step method for this video. Her book The Life Changing Magic Of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo essentially says the same thing Rowena suggests! (visualize and write down your ideal space and lifestyle/routine, finding homes for things etc.)
    The Main Ideas:
    * You have to decide you want to change the way you live your life and envision what your ideal life looks like (implement Rowena's current VS desire or Lavendaire's current me VS future me)
    * Follow the KonMari method (buying her book or watching the show is worth it or just google KonMari method), discard EVERYTHING from all the categories (clothing, books, papers/documents, komono/miscellaneous, and sentimental items) that don't make you happy, that aren't necessary, or that are just taking up space in your life/space FIRST before you start putting anything away
!!![IMPORTANT, it will get super messy before it gets better so set aside a day or two to do this, she recommends doing it all in one go if you can]!!!
    * THEN go through the rest of the method and start "finding homes" or permanent locations for things you do decide to keep like Rowena said
There are small things that Marie Kondo believes that I disagree with (like thinking you shouldn't have lounge wear to wear around the house) but for her actual tidying method, it's really imperative that you do it exactly the way she says and finish it completely. It keeps you accountable to do it the way she details
Just my 2 cents and what's worked for me :)

OMG 😳 I would have a panic attack with that amount of skincare alone. My mom was a hoarder so clutter really still triggers me. I still had a stack of papers and I ended up just throwing them all out one day in a state of rage cos it was on my To Do and the task itself was daunting. If it were me, you should pick your top 10 favorite products (even tho most of them are full of toxic chemicals that mess with the body’s nature immune system) but 10 is MORE than enough and then throw out the rest. I can’t tell you how liberated I felt when I just THREW IT ALL OUT of my papers. Having space around you allows so much more creativity and clarity to flow around you like feng shui style

I just want to say this was one of your best videos yet, in my opinion. I wanted to write almost everything you said down, your voice just perfectly emphasized each word and turn of phrase (so jealous of that amazing reading voice). Also really appreciate your detailed description box, as always. Top tier content, you should be proud of yourself, and thank you. Sincerely, a fellow sweet potato. That should be a thing

I watched the first video about this yesterday and was excited to see this one today! I actually spent an hour watching as I was pausing to take notes. I think this will be so beneficial for me as I'm working to change my outlook on life, and create a calmer environment in myself and around myself.
Thank you so much for this!

Buen video 😁

Hi Rowena. You're truely inspiring. I love the way systems and goals are compared w/ journeys and destinations. You really put new ideas into my brain to work upon. I also want to build a system for my skincare and inner reflection as well my spiritual practice. Thank you so much, have a wonderful day 💜

what u do in your spiritual practice?

    • @vatikaparmar540
      @vatikaparmar540 4 роки тому

@@matheusminto I practice Taoism and Zen Buddhism as my spiritual practice. Although I don't label myself with any religion, but Taoist and Buddhist principles and practices are very fruitful to being for me. Since I don't follow any religion, I feel free to practice what my energy resonates with 😊
It's basically meditation, mindfulness, positive affirmations, silence and respecting and loving all beings and believing in gratitude. I hope that answers your question.

Thanks so much, Rowena! I was waiting for the right time to open this and just had my breakfast and I feel so relaxed on this Sunday morning :) ready to take on the day! "I'm just wondering/thinking/curious" is what I think and say out loud the most to the point where it annoys me and I'm like - can you be LESS curious? Consumption overload is a real struggle I've discovered these past few weeks! 😅
