What’s your thoughts on red ludwigia ive had some for months and it’s barely changed I’m not sure if it’s the wrong substrate or a lighting issue could you shed light on this
Moss grows wild in garden
Well actually the toilet has a lot nutrients 😂
🤔🤔🤔🤔😉
free fertilizer
Man that's what I was thinking
New video incoming toilet tank
LOL!
Guppy grass is my favorite . it grows crazy fast and my shrimps love to chill inside it
Anubias is the closest thing nature comes to plastic plants. It's hardly growing, it's hard to kill and few fish are going to try to eat it.
anubias are beautiful too. ONe of my favorite plants the big leaves look very rainforest (because they come from the rainforest)
Also can be grown in a terrarium.
I think Americans overreacted to the Zebra Mussel scare. People who had Marimo balls in their tank for years were taking them out and pretty much taking a flamethrower to them. C'mon, if you've already had them for years there aren't any mussels on them. Besides that, the US is already infested with them. I live in the Great Lakes region which is already infested. If you buy any kind of aquatic plant in the US it could theoretically have zebra mussels in them, but we don't go crazy and kill all our aquatic plants. You can still buy them. I did. If you're really paranoid about it you could keep them in a quarantine tank for awhile. If you're that paranoid you should already be doing that with everything you put in your tank. You could also treat your plants with No Planaria or some other medicine that kills snails.
most of our waters are clear of zebra mussels in E Wa and N Id
i was gonna say too that he sounded really ridiculous throwing out his moss balls. Zebra muscles are already infesting the US, i personally live on lake erie and the beaches don’t even have sand, its all just zebra muscle shells. The infestation is horrible and insane, but moss balls definitely weren’t gonna tip the scales, it’s already as bad as it gets 😂
@@oscrates Same where I live by lake Michigan. The beaches are now made of zebra mussel shells. Wouldn't make a bit of difference if I had one in my tank. In fact, I think that would be kinda cool, though I doubt they'd live long in a fish tank. They were brought to the US by cargo ships from Europe and Asia - where they're from - and not by moss balls, though it's a good idea to inspect and quarantine livestock from other countries.
1) Hornwort
2) Hairgrass
3) Duckweed
4) Moss
5) Salvinia
My new favorite ... Pennywort (the Japanese variety).
Duckweed, the merciless undying smotherer
A bucket in the corner of the room, that's kind of like a toilet. Boy, I bet your house parties are quite interesting.
LOL. I was about to comment that I've changed my mind about wanting to visit his fishroom, due to that bucket like a toilet comment, but then I saw your post.
If an aquascaper has mossballs in they're scape, they're good scapers. The trick is to figure out where they look natural if they're wedged permanently. Between rocks, in crevices of driftwood, half buried in super coarse gravel. You can also de-ball them and use them like real moss as a hardscape covering.
I rather use other/real moss than marimo moss (algae) lol.
There are tons of other moss that beautiful for scape; flame, peacock, fissiden, weeping, etc. Even Riccia Fluitans looks beautiful if you scape it right.
Pices Aquaria is AWESOME!!
Eugene has been home for really decent aquarium stores for decades, Little Ocean, Aqua Serene..
my betta uses my anubias barteri like a cat tower, well he doesnt scratch it but he is always laying on it and jumps from leaf to leaf, guarantee your betta will love the barteri.
My personal favorite nigh unkillable plant is Limnophila sessiliflora. Not only is it nigh impossible to kill in the tank, it grows crazy fast so you need to cut it back regularly (more stems to plant). It grows so fast that it can out compete algae.
I second that. Only issue is that shrimps nibble off its tips.
It's so strange. I have tried it twice. And I can't grow them. Almost all plants are growing for me. And limnophila heterophylla is growing wild. But sessiflora, well, not for me. :)
@@thomaslytje8656 There is always one plant, one that should be easy, but you just can't get to grow. For me it is Bacopa caroliniana.
I killed mine 😂
@@Krishnath.Dragonfor me it’s duckweed😭
Water Sprite- It's a great floating fern. You can also plant it and it becomes a great centerpiece
Talking about plants that grow in the toilet lol…
Back in the day we had an outhouse in the back. I used one day after eating a vegetable soup.
Came back to it 3 months later and there were beans and corn growing out of the poopie receptacle!
I didn’t harvest them just incase you are wondering
I can't believe I clicked "read more" 🤣
Probably would have been the healthiest corn you ever ate. Lol.
@@evalyer Or send you racing back to the outhouse.
I don't feel great about participating in the toilet conversation. 😣
This whole toilet thing reminds me of an experience I had a few years ago…
I knew this UA-camr known as “Watermelon-jiki” he was friends with Kalichi.
He was a cousin of Kinoji, who studied at Django Kiyoji.
He moved to a place called Crustiji, where he met Mrs Kanishki.
There they had a kid name Gobi, who grew up to become a Blazing Pillpoji
Hope you enjoyed, thanks! 🙏
I can’t believe Vallisneria wasn’t on the list 👀 mostly that’s all that’s in my tank , taking over everything
My goldfish love snacking on duckweed
I set up an aquarium when I was going to middle school. Left it going over the summer (I took the fish home) then I came back to check on it in the fall. No cap, it had 2 tiny pieces of duckweed before summer break. Only sunlight, and when I came back after those 2.5 to 3 months, there were layers apon layers of duckweed (it was also a 10 gallon)
Wow, that variegated Bucephalandra plant was stunning!
When I have too much duck weed, I just toss it into my goldfish tank and they destroy it.
Whaaaat?! I just stumbled on this channel looking for some info and just assumed Aquapros was in Jersey or something (from what I've seen, dudes in New Jersey are really into aquariums). I was super surprised when some the video was made at one of my local, and favorite shops 🤯. What up, Pisces Aquaria?!! Whiteaker in the 541!! I'm new to the hobby and these guys have been the absolute best.
I was born and raised in Jersey, but I escaped to Pennsylvania 30 years ago. Yep, I am into aquariums!😊
Limnophilia sessiflora deserves a mention. Super easy stem and grows fairly quickly
But it is bit more demanding, but a super fast grower in ideal environment. So it is not a bulletproof plant in my opinion.
It's a great plant but not exactly legal here in the United states
Cabomba is a good, hearty one. I have extremely hard water and i have this growing in my stock tank pond and it is loving it!!
18:15 i can confirm: that one can't be killed xD
Thing I would add to the list if it was me: Limnofolia heterophylla (most would say sessiflora - but one of them), hygrofolia difformis or perhaps polysperma, hornwort and probably water lettuce too. Perhaps even valisnaria.
Oh yeah, and Elodea densa. I litteraly forgot that in a tank that started to leak. I put it outside for several months, - even over the winer. I think it was even covered from the sun for a month or two. And still the plant is alive.
Like you I have a lot of tanks. And duckweed in most. But actually I quite like it. It tells a lot about the tank. If it goes yellow, if the roots are getting way long, if it start growing even faster than usual etc. And it's a "buffer" for nitrate. If you get a spike they probably will absorb most.
Java fern is a strange one. Some of the new strains seem to need strong light and co2. If it does die off I find that the new plants at the end of the dead leaves do pretty well.
Cool video really felt like just hanging out at the shop for the second half
My favourite is pearl weed. Can carpet it, stem it, shape it, what ever. And it grows really fast with high or low light. Always keeps my water crystal clear
Ive had anubias rot come in on anubias ive ordered before and its crazy contagious and devasted a ton of mine one by one thank god i think im finally past it i think. But i love anubias in general and keep a ton of it.
I'm slowly learning what plants suit my tanks, I like to keep things simple
We only had one bathroom growing up. I can relate to the bucket. Lol. 😂 If it was occupied, you'd grab a bucket and go to the wood shed.
Rotalla blood red keeps its color in low-tech, Lobelia cardinalis mini will work too. Pearl weed, Hygrophila ‘blue’ salcifolia, & Pogostemon stellata look good in low-tech. In C.A. marimos are available only in 1 in. diameter. Oh, don't forget Ludwigias & Echinodorus. I use hygger LEDs and 18W fluorescent bulbs.
I bought some Water Lettuce from a LFS; now it regularly takes over my 150G. So much so that I actively sell it on FB Marketplace and trade the same LFS for fish, food, etc.
HA HA, woman at 18:40, you made me laugh, thanks.
I didn't think i was in frame lmao
That plant case is cool, a great fish store here in Overland Park, KS called Picasso aquatics has this, I bought a new plant yesterday
we love our toilet plants!
I had guppy grass and it disintegrated with a couple of days. Hornweed grows like mad, you start with one stem and with in a month you have a tank full, it's crazy stuff! Duckweed grows like crazy too, both are good for selling for a bit of petty cash, they grow like wildfire. Duckweed is also good because it helps kill of algae as it blocks a lot of light out when covering the top. Anubias I find just melt and die off after a few weeks but leave it alone and new leaves grow. Bucephalandra is amazing too but slow growing which is no bad thing. Crypts are good but you have to keep feeding root tabs which gets expensive.
Can't go wrong with Water Wisteria. I can't get that stuff to stop growing, I'm always having to trim it back. It also spreads and spreads and spreads.
so I just woke up right, prepare a cup of coffee and saw this title, I spat out my coffee like a malfunctioning espresso machine all over my poor, unsuspecting monitor.
Subwassertang does well for me and is good for fry. Val grows like a weed in a pot with 3-4" of gravel with root tabs.
wow, i have never heard about Bucephalandra before but its stunning :O
I've just had anubias flower over the past couple weeks
I found some of these in my local pond and sewers 😅
I had the problem with melting Anubias after raising the temperature to 86f to fight ick, I was wondering what caused it because even Anubias that I bought after lowering the temperature kept melting.
I’m so tired of trying and loosing plants. I’ve spent hundreds in all types of setups. I’ve done everything I can. I even have perfect well water with excellent readings. I’ve tried other waters too. I’ve tried dirted and sand. I’ve tried substrate and sand. I’ve gotten all the fertilizers needed. All I get is melted plants. I truly believe some people have the right energy for specific things to happen. I am an orchid specialist owning over 1K orchids. Experts are amazed on how I keep them. Others try to do as I do and they have no luck. I guess I’ll just stick to breeding guppies.
I'm surprised that someone so adept at Orchids has problem with planted aquaria. I would think that you have the mindset to grow aquatic plants, considering that Orchids are grown on a sparse care interval. Largely when someone is having problems with their new planted tank it's because they get impatient with the nitrogen cycle. Actually letting the tank just be for a few weeks to establish some micro organisms ( keep the fertilizers to a minimum...) Gentle neglect is actually better when you just want to get some plants to initially survive. Start with simple low light plants that don't need substrate, you can use gravel, but it should not be something like Aquasoil as your first tank. something more inert and maybe a very little amount of crushed Dolomite or coral sand to add some light mineralization, Ca and Mg for the plants, also helps establish a viable bacteria and microfaune culture.
Great video
You destroyed your moss balls for no reason at all 😂
Java ferns! One little leaf could break off and take root somewhere. It’s pretty damn resilient.
i've had trouble with annubias rot. Do you think a blue dip would work when tying them on after purchase to maybe stop the fungal/bacterial growth that causes it?
Good question, i know other people who have tried all that and more with not 100% answers... its almost like its a genetic trait of the plant like a weird defense mechanism... thats me totally guessing with no evidence tho 🤪🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
@@AQUAPROS i went ahead and dipped a current piece i have in my tank that I lost half of to rot, see if it saves the other half.
Great video, Does your friend ship plants, Dig those tropicas.
Anubias, Crypt, Java Moss are the true Bulletproof. And if we are talking about easy plant, i will include, HM, Dwarf Sagittaria, Buce, Hygrophila Polysperma and Amazon Sword with my 3 bulletproof plants.
We need to see your pet rabbit!!!!!! 🐇
If you agitate the surface water enough with an air stone, for example, you can make the duckweed disappear. it wants still water to thrive.
How did you get your Trees like that? I tried it on my bonsai tree, doing everyday CO2 inside. But it doesnt seem to grow, and mostly seems die off
You know what is so weird? I have been aquascaping since 2019 and always have done high tech. I have 7 rimless aquariums (UNS and Waterbox) and I have high tech lights from onf, chihiros, twinstar, and fluval. I can grow every plant no problem and I go heavy on the co2, my water is great very low tds and pretty soft from the tap and the one thing that never has done well for me is bucephelandra. No matter what species I try it always melts away and doesnt come back. I've probably tried over 5 times over the last 5 years with many different varieties. So now I just grow them emersed in my terrariums and wabi kusa. I did have one last quite a long time, and then I took the scape down and put it in my bin. I can grow hc cuba like no other, monte carlo, elecharis belem, parvula, pusilla. Rotala hra, rotundofolia, mini pelia, pinnatifida, about 6 variants of java fern, crypts up the wazoo etc etc. yet one of the easiest plants just never acclimates to my water for some reason. Im ok just growing it in my emersed setups. I have been growing the same plamts for years on end. the same plantback and forth from submerged to emersed to tubs to wabi kusa to terrarium, still going strong. lol buce is my bane, but its so pretty. maybe i should give it another try with a new variety. Good news is buce looks just as pretty emersed as submerged.I wonder if it is something in my tap water that buce hates because I use RODI for my emersed plants.
I feel like salvinia needs a lot of light, outside in my pond that gets full sun, it outgrows the duckweed, but in the shaded pond it died off.
I have a 200 litre tank full of bucephalandra I stuck it to all my wood and dragon stone it's been growing in there 4 years now and I literally don't touch it best plant ever
The plants that I have had good luck with. Pretty much any crypt, even the supposed hard to grow ones I have had good luck with. Java ferns (I have an old fake tree tank decoration that I repurposed by gluing Java Fern on it. It is now the centerpiece plant in my 40 gallon tank.), Pogostemon Stellatus Octopus (needs to be in a tall tank unless you want to be trimming it allot), Red Tiger Lotus have also done well for me. The Amazon sword did too good. I got rid of it because it took over the tank it was in. I have a fairly new tank with a large variety of Buce in it that is doing nice. The Buce is a slow grower, so you have to give it time. Bolbitis is another slow grower, but seems pretty hardy. No tank is complete though without Java moss and Sun asserting. Java moss grows even in the dark and shrimp adore it. Subwassertang is hardy, but slow growing. My favorite though is all the different crypts. They are my go to and they are typically a good price. I had Jungle Val in my tall tank, but I didn’t like it. It grew well and would take over the tank. I was forever pulling up runners, so I finally got rid of it and went with the Octopus plant instead.
Just note, my plevos made a dinner out of guppy grass. I ended up with stems. The only plant my plecos like to eat.
For floaters, I like red root floaters, Frogbit and dwarf water lettuce. I won’t let duckweed anywhere near my tanks. I don’t like any of the floaters with the smaller leaves. The red root floaters are gorgeous with good light as the leaves and roots are red. Be warned, with floating plants, they all grow fast and you will have to thin them out weekly.
Minus the duckweed I want to buy the others for my new fish tank.
I bought Cabomba caroliniana and my goldfish ripped (leaves, stems ?) off of them and would always pull them up and I just kept re-planting them and those plants are still alive.
I don’t know much about those plants, I only bought them because they’re pretty but those plants are very tough so far (a month in).
I bought Java Moss and glued them to my lava rocks and they all turned white and died after a few days.
I’m guessing the glue(?)
Hornwort is hard to kill off.
I have killed hornwort too. :(
@@jonisolis9645Nothing's impossible, but...
Last week I harvested hornwort out of my 5 tanks, I filled up a Walmart bag and had to throw it away😢. I wish I had someone to give it to but I live in a very rural part of Pennsylvania and I don’t know of any fish keepers.
How to kill duck weed? Lots of flow at the top of your tank, It looks like the plant doesn't like to be in constant movement. Also, if it gets wet on top of it, it turns brown and melt away. How do I know? I have a L 20gallon tank where I haven't been able to grow Duck Weed at all .
😂
Too legit to quit! Random video thought or not, I liked 👍
Heck yaaaa brother 😎😎😎
My Vallisneria hasn't grown for two months, only small shoots and I've also fertilized it, but the Sessiflora grows like a rocket, I don't understand what the problem is
I've killed anubius, duck weed, rotala, but bacopa and pearl weed are going gangbusters. I guess it depends on the tank set up.
Im new and my Anubias ( have 4) mostly covered in black spots and algae. I clean them off every 10 days or so but lately they dont look to well. I almost want to give up on them and try some buce..
@@letsgonow5641 Maybe it's the light levels?
@@joyg2526 the last time i clean the algae off with a qtip thats when it got worse. I did get some new lights just this week. im hoping that helps.
Just bought a moss ball in Minneapolis today. Wife bought some cages for them from Teemu so goldfish can only eat so much.
Never had success with keeping java fern or java moss alive despite how everyone swears they're easy, but I've found crypts to basically be indestructible for me. Maybe they like the water here, but I've never had any issues with them besides a little initial melt. And guppy grass too.
Forget the toilet, 2 of my anubias nana grow in an orchid pot and in a snail enclosure in a coconut shell with soil and moss, being watered every now and then, with the rhizome out of water.
I forget what restaurant it was, but a local place had moss balls in mason jars as table decorations
I just lost three Anubias alfazeli (sp?) in a new scape. Melted away. Praying it recovers because the rhizomes still look kinda good but the leaves are just pretty much gone now
I've had bad luck with jungle val, but that may be my own fault. I ordered it during the worst of last summer and i think the roots cooked during shipping. Plant still looks awful. I've had great luck with crypts, anubias, cabomba, and dwarf sagittaria. Been meaning to try some buce, didn't realize it was iridescent tho. Gotta get it now lol.
Ya time of year can be tough on plants :/ Buce is fun! I need some too ;)
Duckweed occasionally shows up in my pond, but my goldfish in there eat it.
I have tried probably 40-50 different plants over the years. I was told that Java Moss and Java Fern were indestructible - I tried several times and they just died on me. i bought two varieties of Pogostemon - Erectus and Octopus and planted them side by side in the same tank. The erectus died withing a few weeks but the Octopus just went wild and took over the whole tank. I have a couple of Bucephalandra which I've had for over three years, they have put out probably 4 or 5 leaves in that time. They are not dying, they're almost dormant. My Crypts just grow like wildfire, I've never suffered from melt. I now stick with 6 or 7 plants that I know will do well even though I have no idea why others do not.
What is your list of 6 or 7? 🤙🦀🌴
@@captainandrewcrabtree6535 Pogostemon Octopus, dwarf sagittaria, Amazon Sword, Water Sprite, and crypts (I seem to be able to grow any crypt) There's also one other whose name escapes me at the moment but it's similar to Cabomba. Salvinia on the surface. All of these just grow really well for me.
@@andystokes8702 Thanks man... have done well with crypts as well and dwarf sag is a strong grower for me lately... same for me with the Java fern and moss, generally don't de well. Appreciate the response brother! Have a good one!

I miss marimo moss balls so much, they are illegal in canada since quite a few years now 😭
Same. Also in Canada. I miss Marimo too!!
They are? I found it sold on kijiji. Shhhhh lol
@@sevantorus5545 definitely illegal. Lots sell Java moss shaped in a ball and try to pass it off as marimo though. That said, I’m sure you could find a private sale - just not a business selling them
Pogostemon Stellatus Octopus, grows like crazy and impossible to kill.
Duck weed is FOREVER.
Duckweed and salvinia-if my fancy goldfish eat the roots will that kill them, or will they keep putting out more roots?
Water wisteria should be on this list.
currently have a tank with jungle val and duck weed battling each other for light lol
@Aquapros: Buce is almost all wild collected and is actually now endangered due to it's popularity in aquascaping and the fact that it only grows in a small region. Please don't 'push' it on your show. Cory (aquarium co-op) will only sell aquacultured buce for that reason and he has a very hard time finding any.
the buce we sell is farm raised!
@@piscesaquaria906 That's so good to hear but more should be said about it, please take the time to mention the issue every time you show it or recomend it.
He also sells rebranded Chinese stuff at a higher price...
@@letsgonow5641 You absolutely have no idea what you are talking about, I have watched almost every video Cory has made (you clearly have not) and he has been very up front about his entire painstaking processes from start to finnish with all of his products. Cory has talked about why he unfortunately has his products made in China and also that as soon as he/anyone submits a well thought out plan to the fabricators his and everyone elses ideas and plans are immediately pirated and sold on Amazon, Ally Express, Temu and other sites and not with the same quality inside components but they look the same on the outside. This is a known big problem with doing business with China for all of our buisnesses and industries, including our tech industries. Point is, get your facts straight about who is ripping off whom. BTW, I only mentioned Cory's stance on Buce to Mike because I know he and Cory are friends and I thought maybe they could talk about it.
Any slow growing plant you need amano shrimp. ❤
...buce...😊
😍
My first attempt with plants are rotala green tissue culture. And it's not doing well. Might be dead.
What are the white fish at 10:20?
Love duckweed won't survive in my water unfortunately only plant i haven't had success with so far.
My water lettuce took over and killed all my duckweed😂
Java fern is the only plant I've tried and tried multiple times but can not get it to grow.
Skipping the duckweed section, I don’t wanna hear it! The real devil’s lettuce😅
What about frog bite? Those roots can be soooo long.
My Java always starts to go crappy. It has brown spots, it almost looks rusty, it really frustrates me.
If there is a lot of moss, the light may not reach the interior.Or if it is new and bought in the store it is raised above water and consequently when you put it under water it has to adapt and should settle over time
Algae is a plant. Just a very simple plant.
Vallisneria?
duckweed only last 2 weeks in my tank between the fish and the snails they are all eaten
My dog prefers toilet water over tap water 😂
Same 😎🙃
what about plants that survive guppies munching
Algae are plants
What’s the plant in the bucket in the thumbnail?🇦🇺❤️
I have killed everything on your list even while trying to cultivate it. Duckweed lasts less then two weeks before they are gone. I filter my water some but live in very hard water and almost nothing grows. But my fish love the conditions. I want plants!
The hard waters gotta be part of it.. i mean, theres some plants that should do well in it but ya thats a tough one...
@@AQUAPROS Thankfully my fish like the water got my Congo tetra to push 5in or so and my Mollies are 3 1/2 to 4 in.

Incase u wanna try lol
Let’s see them survive in a turtle tank…
Jungle val has died on me the two times I tried it. :) I have water that has a very low TDS.
I for whatever reason can't keep an anubias alive to save my life, but I have never had a crypt melt even once....go figure
Plants man.... they can be a mystery!
I think water chemistry makes a huge difference. Before I switched to RO + equilibrium + crushed coral I couldn't even keep duckweed alive, anubias would die, etc. Now that I have soft water, I haven't ran into a problem with any plants I've bought so far and some, like my limnophila heterophylla are absolutely out of control (in my high tech tank it grows a solid inch a day)
