Just a quick clarification/correction, the Spartan 1st person arms actually aren't limited strictly to multiplayer. Master chief in campaign uses the same arms as multiplayer Spartans do. The elite arms are indeed multiplayer only though.

What does it look like in anniversary graphics?
So I've actually had instances where my game lagged while I was playing Halo 2 multiplayer as an elite. When I looked down, the leg models in the pelvis area looked like it had some flesh and bone too, can you look into this as well? This might most definitely be related. I don't know if there's anything with the leg model of the spartan. I don't think so, but I might be remembering incorrectly. Might be worth a look.
think it has to do with how the limbs are animated they left interior "walls" inside the arms as join points of models and used those as animation points, as to whey its textured the way it is
1. it was a random texture they had on hand they could use as a place holder so they could visibly see the animation spot
2. they made it just so they can differentiate the connect points
3. inside joke?
Hey I have a question for u man. On the first level of Halo Reach when u drop off the chopper, if u sprint down on the right side you’ll see an invisible elite. U can shoot at it and drain it’s shields, but can u kill it?
Looks like they might've intended to implement dismemberment, but cut it early on like some other things in Halo 2
Brutes were originally going to tear marines limb from limb so it might be left over from that
They CUT it early.
Correct. The muscle/bone textures are leftover details from a time in Halo 2’s development when bungie planned to include dismemberment and gore within the campaign and multiplayer. Ultimately, before launch, they determined that gore might be too violent for the game’s target audience.
Probably a ratings decision.

Related fact: In Destiny they modeled the interior of the “Rat King” skull with sinuses and all even though you can never see it. Bungie’s attention to detail is absolutely world-class.
Are they the same limbs used by infected elites? because their arms can actually come off and you can see meat and such
No, when the Elite becomes infected, they change their model rather than using a different version of the same model.

@@GGG_gaming It's the same art style.

@@emilycampbell6375 I mean, it's not that much of a stretch, considering The Flood are dismembered.
Yeah, i doesn't surprice me bc of the flood infested bodys have that mechanics, maybe they were trying to implement that on every character at some point.
Yup that's what it is some of the videos Bungie mentions it. Halo ce it was an idea but they decided to cut because they thought it actually might be to much for engine to handle/hard to implement, and halo 2 it was cut because of the reason why alot of things where cut, too little time to implement
probably flood related, but dismemberment would've been cool, like imagine cutting off a dude's arms in multiplayer with an energy sword or something

Looking back, I spent a bit of time by myself in some of the multiplayer maps, and recently, while doing the same thing (no life, I know), there was a certain creepiness to Halo 2's atmosphere in particular. The feeling does dissipate a little bit in the maps that have more dynamic things happening, like Terminal & Backwash, but still, the creepy feeling is difficult to shake even when watching Red vs Blue.
More secret stuff like this being discovered years later only makes things creepier.
Maybe a precursor to Halo 3's cut dismemberment
This was probably going to used with the flood at some point.
My thought also
Bungie wanted to add dismemberment and gore to Halo 2 and also Halo 3. Ultimately in both games these ideas were scrapped due to the target audience at the time for the games. They thought dismemberment would be too much for the target audience.
It sucks when thinking about it, how cool it would've been to see brutes rip the arms off of Marines, and possibly Chief on a player death cam. Whilst also seeing the energy sword slice elite limbs off, and possible Marine limbs as well. But hey well never truly know how awesome Halo 2 was going to be as it was indeed rushed.
An amazing Halo game no doubt, but even bungie mentioned they did not have enough time for everything.
I actually know why this exists.
In older games models had a solid rigging system, not the unparent-at-joints like today to "gib" bodies. Since these models couldn't just detach the arms, the devs would fold the arms inside the body to hide them or make them invisible, then spawn in separate arm models to create the illusion they came off. It was common to use the FPPov limbs since they were already implemented then add extra texture/planes to complete the illusion.
We can see this gibbing done with the Flood (which is a solid mechanic), but humans and other models were likely cut to save on time for the crunch release date
This is one of those things I’m not going to be able to not think about now lol. Just like how in Thief the Dark Project your character model is a piece of tofu.
My best guess is that these arms left overs for when they were testing the flood and giving them the level of dismemberment they'd later have in Halo 3.
I totally forgot about this. I saw it when I used to mod halo 2 back in the day! Nice find!!
When I was like 8 I remember playing OG Halo 2 with my grandpa and he used double needlers on me. It blew my spartan's arm off and everyone was kind of shocked.
16, almost 17 years later and we are still finding new things out.....amazing
The fact that this only shows up in the first person models makes me wonder if they would have had special death animations under certain circumstances. MC losing a hand or the Arbiter losing an arm
proof to all the kids saying chief was an ai or robot himself.
Halo 2 had so many little extra details we are still finding them today
I knew it in my bones!!! Confirmation , I remember seeing similar texture back in day when the Burial Mounds glitch happens where you can see a huge version of a dead body
According to the old halo 2 teasers in magazines dismemberment, destroyable environments, interactive cover, peaking, rolling, sprinting, blood splatter on your visor/arms (spartan/elite) When you got near fatally wounded/gibbed by explosives and even parkour and silent hand signals in MP since open Mic was going to be a thing were meant to be added but got cut along with the DLC maps which were added later. A scarab fight against the Gravemind, open world new Mombassa and high charity along with a level referred to as Forerunner Tank were all cut from production.
my brain immediately goes to a possible de handing detail when two players fight with energy swords, thats the only thing i can think of
not to mention them wanting to add a lot of ambition to halo 2 but obv the time crunch and tossing ideas out some making a comeback into halo 3 to fit it all in
EDIT: didnt finish the video and you basically said this oopy doopy
16 years later and we're just finding this.
“Decapitation” means severing the head. The term you’re looking for that includes limbs is “amputation”.
Either they intended to implement dismemberment because of the Energy Sword or those are details added for flood combat forms when they get destroyed
More than likely its for reference. Animators and modelers need to keep in mind the anatomical restrictions of bodies; how much limbs and joints could move with that bone structure.
The other week I was messing around in halo 3 slayer with my cousin, he threw a regeneration field and I threw down an energy drain, once we started shooting i heard very strange and kinda disturbing yells and screams coming from our Spartans, either I was losing it or this is real, maybe check it out.
The elites torso in reach is also fleshy like that while the Spartans are just silver lines
You could see something similar in halo reach if you were playing as an elite and the game started to have connection problems. You could look into your own torso and see a similar green guts texture at the hip.
This actually happens in H3 too, this is noticeable now with the new arm pieces, which aren't visible in the First person View, It still shows the Mark 6 arms
The halo reach elites have a similar detail with the first person lower body
The meat texture looks like an elite head for the spartan and looks like guilty spark for the elites.
Kinda crazy how he's still making vids, keep it up man
In Halo Reach when the game is lagging if you're an Elite and look down you can see organs, some even look like kidney's
Reminds me of that Halo Reach picture where an elite’s body is sliced in half but we never see it in the game.
Which picture?
@@WereWhusky I don’t know but I remember seeing an image a long while back where there’s an elite’s dismembered body on the ground in Reach.
Bungie wanted to continue an age old tradition of gibbing.
I remember when halo reach would lag (like really bad lag), if you died as an elite you could move the camera into the dead body and see it’s guts textured underneath the suit
The meat texturing was most likely from a prototype gibbing system that wasn't added as meat parts flying off non-floods isn't Halo's style really.
The separate arms are actually a common practice in video games to insure the arms from the 3rd person model don't clip the camera; so the 3rd person arms are hidden from the camera while a pair of 1st person arms are "stuck" to the camera's movements.
This was kinda neat. Keep it up, General.
I wonder if maybe once upon a time they were toying with the idea of adding gore and dismemberment like they added to the flood in halo 3
I actually found this several months ago before knowing if anyone else had found it, I wonder if this spread by word of mouth lol.
When you consider the dismemberment the Flood Combat forms go through when killed by shotguns/explosions, stuff like this really isn't that surprising. That being said I think it was for the better to not implement too much gore in the game, at least for marketing reasons considering how young the franchise was at the time.
This is why I love your channel
First person death in which an elite or flood cuts your hand off
Maybe when they were making the next Halo they probably thought of making it gory but decided against it
Dismemberment in Halo would have been badass. However, if there was any Halo game that it would have belonged in, then it's definitely going to be Halo Reach, since it has such a gritty and realistic atmosphere.
Considering the Halo 2 Flood did have quite a bit of dismemberment, I wouldn't be surprised if they intended to do something similar with multiplayer models.
That's amazing!!! They must have been planning on doing some type of explosion when you get killed in first person. They were ahead of their time for sure.
Jackels, Grunts, Brutes all have desided to arm-ressle you. No Prophets & drowns are going shake them hands.
Bungie probably were thinking of adding some form of Gibbing system, maybe when you get exploded or something.
Halo 2 has a lot of unfinished concepts that were planned but scrapped.
Eventually we will decipher the texts in sandtrap
With the elite arms, they probably were planning on adding dismemberment to the game, both to multiplayer and campaign. The flood dismemberment stuff was probably the only part of that to make it in the final game.
Also, it's interesting that it's under the Spartan hands, because they're basically all just Master Chief with different color options for multiplayer. Perhaps it was originally just meant for the campaign, and Chief was supposed to lose his hand or something in the story. It may have been something to do with the technical part of the game as to why it wouldn't work, maybe they couldn't limit the weapons you could use in that case or sufficiently change the animations for one-handed gameplay. Or maybe they just changed their minds, I dunno.
Either master chief was supposed to lose his arm during development of Halo 2 or maybe the devs intended for gore effects
Imagine surving a battle but you cant do anything because youre arms are gone
Oh fuck man, they intended you to be able to cut off limbs with the energy sword.
I think they did have the idea for decapitation. Because in Halo 3 dev videos. There’s a clip of a brute ripping off arms of a soldier.
A lot of people don't know this but Bungie did try to implement prerendered organs and the game would have looked a little more like Gears of War as far as game play goes. If you load up Flood Gate the Elites have textures for different organs
17 years later and halo 2’s secrets are still being discovered.
Love you bungie

Halo Community: We need Halo Infinite to make more video ideas.
GeneralHeed:
This was possibly a thing because Bungie was planning on having more flood gore/ full infection animations upon death.
Sometimes, I wish this was the Halo 2/Halo 3 we got. I feel like gore in Halo would have fitted perfectly to truly show how brutal covenant weapons really are. Here’s hoping somebody can give it life once mod support fully comes out on MCC.
I have a theory on this! Older shooter games used to have a lot more gore in them. I remember playing games where your player’s entire arms or legs could be visually blown off in multiplayer games so I bet they modeled in those details in case they wanted to code an animation for arms getting blown off in explosions.
They must have just ultimately cut that animation but left the detail in the model.
I am so happy there are still halo secrets.
During the early days they were gonna have a small bug come in that would cut the body to peices and carry the peices away while on the halo ring but there wasn't enough time to get it right so they scrapped it
You guys are so great at finding secrets in halo
Well... Imagine multiplayer with body parts being blown apart.
you can see the elite arms on halo 2 project cartographer when you set the view to max and melee with some weapons i think its with the shotgun and sword
I would assume that they would do this so that they can line up animations correctly, so that it looks more natural
It’s hard for me to get super involved into any franchise, I give you major props for sticking to this game and researching the secrets and nuances it has. And STILL discovering interesting facts!! Generalkidd 1337 af
What if they originally intended for Halo 2 to be extremely violent by adding dismemberment, but Microsoft caught wind of that and said _"We don't do that here."?_
when you realize someone can make a brutal mod for halo 2 with those models
Knowing Bungie makes all kinds of pop culture references, I wouldn't be surprised if this is a subtle Star Wars empire strikes back reference. Second halo game has usable energy swords. Star wars has light sabers. Second star wars movie has Luke (arguably main character) lose a hand. Vader (arguably the main bad guy) had been implied to have lost whole arm. Spartans good guys, elites bad guys. Maybe this is midnight crackpot theory, but I like it.
My name is Yoshikage Kira. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I work as an employee for the Kame Yu department stores, and I get home every day by 8 PM at the latest. I don't smoke, but I occasionally drink. I'm in bed by 11 PM, and make sure I get eight hours of sleep, no matter what. After having a glass of warm milk and doing about twenty minutes of stretches before going to bed, I usually have no problems sleeping until morning. Just like a baby, I wake up without any fatigue or stress in the morning. I was told there were no issues at my last check-up. I'm trying to explain that I'm a person who wishes to live a very quiet life. I take care not to trouble myself with any enemies, like winning and losing, that would cause me to lose sleep at night. That is how I deal with society, and I know that is what brings me happiness. Although, if I were to fight I wouldn't lose to anyone.
i think this has something to do with the elite flood forms, most likely.
maybe a flood infected spartan was originally intended sometime in development
In the Halo 3 Vidoc theres a scene where an Elite cuts a Brute's legs, and a Brute ripping the arms of a Marine so the speculation may be right. even then i don't think dismemberment would fit in Halo
I’ve always wished that Halo had gore along with its crazy ragdoll

Arm gun. That’s a new one
Have you thought about the reason why they animated the Flesh and Bone into the arms is because of the flood when you blow off flood limbs you can see there insides aswell maybe it was a reused asset
What are these old glory hounds of super-soldiers hiding?
This makes me wonder! I bet you that they were toying with the idea of shooting someone else's hand off to keep them from duel wielding!
They did have plans, in Halo 2, for gory kills especially when a brute kills something.
in halo reach, the elites cracks their toes every step when they sprint
Originally Halo 2 was supposed to be a bit more gruesome. this idea was cut during development and this as far as we know is only thing left in-game
Bungie probably wanted to put dismemberment in the game at some point
