  • In Halo 2 there are actually quite a few secret vehicles, some obvious and some you would probably never have thought were vehicles. These vehicles normally can't be driven but let's take a look and drive them anyways!

      is master chief drivable? well just select halo in the halo icon on your desk top and pick a campaign or multiplayer, it works for both then you have to just press wasd and move the mouse.

      @@truth7693 is noble 6 driveable? well first click on the halo the master cheif collection icon on your desktop, then select the halo reach campaign and control him with wasd and mouse

      You would think so, but the Spartans are always the first to be trained with covenant technology. This is just.. lazy scripting, or they didn't allow it due to balancing issues.

      Yeah all apart from the Ghost, Wraith, Banshee, Revenant, Specter, Prowler, Chopper, and Phantom if you include Mickey. Not to mention all of the other general Covenant technology and weaponry that the UNSC put to use.

    Hey, I read on a Halo wiki that " There is a second melee animation for the assault rifle in which the user holds the weapon vertically and clubs anyone in front of them with the back end of the weapon. This animation is used in a few Halo Custom Edition maps but was taken out of the official game"
    Can't find it anywhere online, could you make a video for it, and any other secret/cut animations? I think it would be really interesting. You're awesome btw!

      That is the beta animation for assault rifle and is not present in the final game

    From a game design point of view this makes a ton of sense that all these "secret vehicles" exist. It makes it much easier to modify the behavior of these things by putting in a new "driver" which is interchangeable and if needed can be swapped out.

      It would also make sense with how Joe Staten writes. The Gondola Ride from Hell and Gravemind Motive Rant was caused by removing Forerunner Tank. The Arbiter gets two key flight-based missions in his story which are designed to be mirrors of each other in his character arc. Every flight level in the original five has symbolic significance of journey. The Falcon is easily explained. We got the remake of what it was intended for in New Alexandria. But more importantly, it implies a second flight level for Chief that was also cut. The symbolic "there and back again" of them is always intended in the story. There was more cut content in Halo 3, namely between Cortana and Halo, bringing Halo 3 into line. If the first cut Chief Flight Level from Halo 2 was a Falcon level, that makes it likely to be in the cut Earth content. We know the cut Covenant ship level was a Wraith level, so that's out. So, where's Chief's second flying level? Well, it would certainly make a lot of sense for it to be there. Plot wise, it was meant to be Gravemind's big introduction, and truly show us how massive he was. Hard to do that on foot.

      Well they tend to have no regards of actually using the guns any vehicle may have and instead make sure cause the most amount of damage in as little time as possible; dive bombing.

    I believe a lot of scenery objects like the sentinel spawners are vehicles to allow for the same style of destruction that the vehicle system provides.
    Otherwise the damage system and model is a bit limited in Halo 2. It's done as a workaround/shortcut essentially.

    Back when I first played Halo 2, I tried multiple times in the outskirts mission to just let the Shadow vehicles "regroup" just to see if there was any real reason to destroy them at all. Cortana wasted our efforts

    Seems like if something is meant to break as they get damaged (enforcers, sentinel spawners, etc) bungie couldn't be assed to make new code so they just turned them into vehicles which could already break

    For sentinel emitters in particular, it looks like Bungie used vehicles the same way Bethesda used furniture in Skyrim. A "furniture" is an object that locks a character into place and makes them play entry, idle, and exit animations, so Bethesda used them for spawn points very similar to Halo 2's sentinel emitters. When a Dwarven Spider pops out of a vent, the game engine views it as standing up from a chair.
    Seems like Halo's vehicles have similar benefits. Why make a new spawn point type when vehicles and furniture already have what you need?
    As for the Sentinel Enforcers, my guess is vehicles were the easiest way to implement the breakable parts.

    I have a feeling that they made “active” scenery objects vehicles because it might’ve been the easiest way to get them to work.
    E.g. the vehicle scripts could allow for things like sentinels spawning inside the dispensers. Then, they “drive” them and dismount to get ejected. And the animation for the dispenser door opening is the “vehicle dismount” animation.
    To me that makes a lot of sense and I get why they’d do it. It saves time when you can transfer over the vehicle scripts and functionality. That way, they didn’t have to make, “active scenery,” code from scratch. It reminds me how Bethesda made the train in Fallout 3 move (it’s a guy wearing the train like clothing and running really fast).

    0:57 I always thought of those cannons as the plasma artillery turret on the E3 demo that end up getting cut and reduced to scenery.
    Also for a game mode I would like LZ deployment with drop pod beacons. Secure LZ to have Pelicans/Phantoms spawn in. Or set up a beacon so you can drop pod in.
    That settles it, we don't need another Promethean vehicle, we need Sentinel Enforcers!

      You probably did. I don't know of any in Halo 2, but in Halo 3, there's a glitch that lets you pilot anti air wraiths if you can get in IMMEDIATELY after the pilot dies. It's impossible in MCC though, since you can't destroy the hatch without also destroying the rest of the wraith.

    The troop variant of the shadow appears in the game manual, so it's not so secret. I also wonder how would it be to use the throne's teleport ability if it was possible

    I’ve always noticed that the only parts of the scarab you can damage/destroy were the turrets, which is kind of odd since they don’t do anything. I would assume that earlier in the game they were going to be functional and shot at the player. I don’t know, maybe they had issues with the AI or something.
    Edit: What happens if you “drive” a sentinel spawner while it’s making sentinels?

    I am afraid that the Covenant "Anti-Air" Cannon (Weevil) is not an anti air cannon, but rather a heavy artillery turret, kinda like the siege turret from Halo Wars 2.

    It makes sense that the sentinel enforcer and emitter are vehicles, since you can lock on to both of them with the rocket launcher.

    Growing up it upset me that the shadow wasn’t drivable because the manual actually had it as part of the vehicle list when it talked about ones you could drive, and I spent hours trying to figure out how I could just to find I couldnt

    I think the reason those weird scenery objects are vehicles are because you can shoot and damage them. The sentinel emitter kind of makes sense that it's a vehicle cause you can shoot and destroy it and maybe bungie couldn't find any other way to make those objects work without making them vehicles.

    When I used to mod Halo CE, the only way I could have had destructible scenery and enemies was by making them a vehicle variant maybe that’s why Halo 2 was implemented the same way.

    I wish 343 would enable these things in custom games or a standalone game mode. EVEN MORE SO add the campaign elite skins to multiplayer, as well as that sweet heretic banshee skin.
    It's all sitting in the files ready to be used, but instead sits as the easiest content drop we probably won't ever see

    Hey General nice video again. Unrelated though I have a bit of a question here for you or other fans here.
    I've been playing odst again lately and all though I've always notice the dead elites from obvious fire fights with brutes. But I just noticed most of them have the same piece of paper by them with what looks like guns and symbols on them.
    Can't seem to find anyone talking about the paper.
    I wonder if anyone else has noticed that what they think. Seems like a hint to the Thursday war trilogy of books but the time line would be way off for that.
    Just curious if anyone else here have seen it or have thoughts on it.

    Does the halo 3 drop pod still work? Remember in the original if you went through the campaign with coop partners on the mission floodgate when the drop pods come down the elite players would be able to get in them as long as nothing shot them

    Among the sea of "Missed Opportunities" that is Halo 2, not having the AA turrets on the beach fire at things is particularly annoying as a fan of the E3 2003 demo when I see that they actually did function. It's one of the things I enjoyed about Halo Reach, where there were many things happening that did not directly involve the player.

    I swear to God I have a memory of hijacking the prophet off the gravity throne and being able to drive it. To this day I'm still not sure if my brain fabricated that memory or of I actually found some weird drivable gravity throne glitch

    I'm assuming some of the weirder vehicles are vehicles due to destruction models given only vehicles get destroyed like that

    It kinda makes sense that these are vehicles since they're destroyable. All vehicles can be broken up and destroyed, so I guess the Sentinel Enforcers and emitters use the same system.
