hello, I love watching your videos because I learn so much, So thank you for making them. I do wish they were a bit longer in length !. Also, I think your boat is beautifully done and the improvements are perfect !. My name is Deborah I'm in Ct and dreaming and saving for a little boat ! Thanks !

Deborah, thanks for the complements! I have tried to keep my videos short and to the point so as not to have them become boring. Perhaps people are finding them more interesting than I expected. Thanks again for the comments!

Once again I love your videos and the work you have done on the boat. You say 6:1 is overkill, in my opinion even 4:1 may be overkill on a boat that size. My 27 ft. has an overhead arch with the traveler on it and the main sheet is off the end of the boom. I have a continuous main sheet running down each side of the overhead arch down to the helm so the adjustments( both main and traveler) can be made from either side. Because of the clearance between boom and OH arch and to maintain the ability to adjust from both sides I can not have even a 4:1 but do not have any issues with this.

Another great video Kevin and you KNOW how much I like I
this Boat. The only reason I like having the main sheet off the bridge deck is so I can have a fuller dodger….not a very scientific reason I admit!! Jay

I am looking for my first boat but have absolutely cut out any boats with a traveler on the deck such as your as I thought it would be difficult to enter or exit the companion way and you would have to step over it every single time also. You said you like it having it on there so I must be wrong in my thinking. Is it a terrible pain or not??

      Hi Barbara,
There are likely as many opinions regarding mainsheet travelers as there are sailors and boats. Most of the time under sail our traveler is at a midship position. With our offset companionway there is not normally any issue with access. When we are at anchor or tied to a dock we normally move the mainsheet car to one end of the traveler.
I have seen traveler tracks that are VERY high, the old X style for example and I have seen travelers that are mounted on top of teak bases that are also quite tall. I removed the original old NicoFico X style traveler from Starwhite and replaced it with the Lewmar LoProfile Traveler System. The Lewmar traveler track is only 3/4" tall and presents no issues when entering or exiting the companionway.
      Kevin

I'm old school...I prefer a bridge deck mounted main sheet gear, halyard winches on the mast and a tiller.
