Look up Thomas Pridgens Zildjian Live set. Basically a showcase where a band writes out a basic piece that lets the drummer highlight their best stuff to their hearts content. No lyrics or unnecessities.
The sound guy is a nightmare and he comes to children and drives them like worms into the world and they become his nightriders and they come to him and make sounds...so he has nightmares alright...but they come true and people come to worship falsely because he is no god...dont be mistaken...this is some psychic sickness in the searching for lies and truth where none can be found but sound is that life and the metal will not die and the wood is sacrificed and held up to the light that rides the sword that man makes sing.

Haha. Yeah, it's actually 4 separate 3 minute songs haha. I remember when I found out Cassandra Gemini was one song, and being the naive teenager I was thought that was uncool and unwise.... almost 10 years later and I lost count of how many times I've listened to it.
This concert was exceptional for him. On the performance of "Tetragrammaton" he's hitting full F5s and trying for full F#5s (failing, but coming close).

Seeing this band live is an out of body experience 100%. They are the cream of the crop. They opened up for the Chili Peppers and made them look like a garage band years ago. I can't express how musically genius and advanced they are. Hendrix would be so proud.
Man. Ikey, Omar, Juan, Thomas (although I prefer Jon). Do you have any idea of how fucking insane these dudes are? This is like musical ayahuasca, we just gotta be thankful such an encounter took place and we could witness it.
I have to take year long breaks from this band or else I kind of start to go insane listening to it day and night and talking to everyone about obsessed I am! Favorite band and favorite vocalist of all time, Tool being tied depending on which band I'm more into atm.
I knew it! I knew I had heard that goddamn riff somewhere! God damnit. 'never heard a man speak like this man before' as they blast out a modified version of a deep vintage metal cut is still art. But the mystery is FINALLY solved. Thank you. I thought this band had magical powers. I'm glad they dont.
Got to meet Thomas Pridgen a few years ago at NAMM. Such a cool and chill dude. And I'm gonna see The Mars Volta AND Thundercat open for the Chili Peppers in May. SO stoked
I was drawing on an app on my laptop while watching this. Every app but the UA-cam that I had this music on crashed. Apparently my laptop can't handle the awesomeness of the Mars Volta.
Don't you just love it when you are balls deep in the middle of a music track and just because you went from FullScreen to Small Screen Fucking UA-cam has to throw in a goddamn commercial for you before you can back to the best fucking part of the song. Thanks Martin Shrek-li
I feel as though every member of this band kept challenging each other to perform their best in this performance after every solo. It's like taking turns in a gangbang on the audience's ears.
That drummer is incredible

Neat wardrobe tho.
I can hear that immediately and im not a pro. I play drums as a hobby but this sounds off.
Waking up like James Brown!
😂
The bass player is the true hero of this band.
God bless Juan.
why??
Having to keep everything together with this bands chaotic style is a monumental task.
The real MVP

Sorry for the late reply. It was a joke, hence the laughing. I do my homework on these guys, don't worry

"Goliath" is the perfect name for this song. It just feels HUGE.
I like that so many top comments point out the skill of every other band member. No weak links in this band.
Cedric skimps some parts so he can nail the ones he finds necessary. People give him flak for it but he knows what he's doing.
and I find it genius.
For real.. He hits some of the most RIDICULOUS notes I've ever heard in the studio

When they slip into that final groove at 10:55 and they all sync up, thats soo powerful

The Mars Volta reminds us that music and playing it to the hilt is okay and even really awesome. Love this group.
The Mars Volta should have stayed together and recorded a Soul-Jazz album, I feel like I am hearing some "Here, My Dear" influences mid-performance.
Ikey RIP
It's like they were trying to play that song as fast as possible without falling completely apart
Alright fellas should we do a bass solo, guitar solo, keys solo, or drum solo now?
