i forget that a band is making this sound. its like space just threw this on the earth and said enjoy. I am so glad the mars volta happened. Music is indescribable. Thank you.
i seriously cant get enough of this vid. i listen to it at least every day. its helped me to stop being such a tightass with my music. GOD DAMN they are so loose but have such a smooth tight sound. im never going to listen to nonlive recordings again i swear. ZEKE
tmv is fucking nuts. i don't know how the hell every member knows to go the next section of the tune during their extended jams, but they do it flawlessly every time. i'm talking about 4:30. insane.
He's singing "They don't plug these keys in" to the melody of "Raindrops Fallin on My Head" Omar sucks right around 5:00. Everything before that was better than the album version.
@chrislarson15 Yea i agree man what you said makes sense - pretty much the whole of californication is in A minor! Going through a heavy mars volta phase at the moment tho and loving it
This was a showcase at the Electric Ballroom in LA for industry folks in 2004. . . Before any TMV albums or singles.. . . Side note to guitar players, try to complete the roll off harmonics in the solo around the 3min mark. . . That's just. Whew.
@@yeahmateyeah8649 I was just trying to point out how early this was. It was an extremely limited show (as far as tickets) to my knowledge. I know they recorded before this, but on their own and not for a major label, again as far as I know. . . You notice though I did not exclude an EP. Albums and Singles was a refrence to anything that made them "Popular"
you can't really listen to just one song, but here's a few good ones -L'via L'viaquez -Tetagrammton -Roulette Dares ...there's more, but if you really want to listen to them, just listen to each album all the way through...Mars Volta doesn't really write songs, they make albums
naw dude they use to do mdma lsd shrooms and blaze before every show and he was still doin crazy stuff so the possibility of them bein faded would not shock me at all
wow... la verdad que en vivo no hay nada parecido... tienen la energía de los rockeros de antaño U_U combinada con una frescura increíble, un estilo muy propio y mucho, mucho, mucho conocimiento musical
i actually forget its a song...its like some kind of sounds spawned out of space. I am so glad the mars volta happened. Music is so lovely and without it, life is just awkward silence.... thank you.
@kranen1 Omar's a really complex guitarist. He takes a lot of risks with his playing, but I'd say most of the time he gets you to BELIEVE that what he's playing is within the key. Which is...baffling.
its great to see singers improvise too. anthony keidis should have done more improv with the chilis, it makes jams sound like songs and throws another 'voice' in the mix. This is one great jam at teh start of a great track, take the veil is my fave volta song
yeah i was just being an overthetop arse. i just hate this show because it was the replacement broadcast for their northsix show....and...well i dont even want to go to how legendary that is.
this is the the only truly good part of this entire shit performance and the entire tmv pro-shot repetoir for that matter, they always get filmed/recorded by pro crew when they suck
It's pointless to try to learn these guy's improvs note for note, develop your own style and it'll serve you better. I'm guessing the bass player's using a pentatonic scale.
He did play with Racer X, and that's with Paul Gilbert on guitar, Juan would usually shred on bass with that band, check out videos, he's so amazing at bass!
I also can easily make the argument that a band can easily live without the guitar. Just imagine a ton of your bands without bassists. Imagine MUSIC without bass. Pick up a bass, and try it sometime. It's not a guitar. Play like flea, play like Bootsy Collins, bet you can't do it. It's not about complexity all the time, and I'm sure Omar Rodriguez Lopez will knock on your door and agree with me on that one. Take a lesson on groove, and than come back with an argument.
I do in fact play guitar, and I do play bass as well, and I've been playing the guitar for about 6 years. I can tell you right now that the bass is probably one of the most important instruments of a band besides the drums. I mean I'm talking strictly rock and funk, of course there could be bands without bass, but what do you think provides the rhythm? Just because something is easy doesn't make it boring. You are musically a dolt, and I'm sure most will agree.
stop fucking around putting tags on the music of TMV they are symply rock performed with soul, blood, sweat, tears, flesh, and mostly with brains!!!!, that's what really matters, of course they have influences, but hey someone have been listening the new album??? (The Bedlam In Goliath) well, they are no very jazzy, or not so salsa, they are just some sort of experimental rock (and that is a fucking tag.....dammit) well, stop discussing about it and enjoy this music....... I Love Juan's bass!!!
@TheFallen86 Hahahahahaha, did I hurt your feelings? ;( Sure you can change the key but it's best to stick to the key the rhythm is in! I just don't like when it is out of key, it doesn't sound good. Anyway, the guy is sloppy and his technique is very limited. You can make that up with great feeling, phrasing and vibrato though, but this guys don't.
If you're not black, you have no business using that word. However, if you're half-black, related to someone who is half-black, or have friends who make up a percentage of your total friend pool greater than the percentage of the population which is black, then you might be allowed to spell it with an "az".
There wouldnt be Mars Volta if it wasnt for Led Zeppelin..Led Zeppelin is and always will be one of the greatest bands to have ever existed..not taking anything from Mars Volta but I dont get you people talking shit about Mars Volta and I definitely don't get the people talking shit about Led Zeppelin..
no the best band of are time can i finally say that have talent yes i can man don't we all miss the days when music was talent and not this fucken pop shit god when will that era end well main stream is dying a bit making room fore talented bands for example the mars volta =)
why wouldn't i?There's just nothing special about that bass riff. They normally come up with good shit(as a band).Do you play guitar?Because,i do,and i know how easy it is to come up with shit. The bass is normally useless.Bands can do without it.
I disagree with that last comment.. they are back to this setup I do believe.. at least they where when I seen them in September.. But yeah they are even capable of even more now.. their skills can only get better not worse!!
he sings it all naturally, not with any kind of "pitching" enhancement bullshit. just you try to hit all those notes every concert for years, close to impossible. unless you want him to stop dancing and that would suck.
This song is amazing. But the last minute or so just blew my fucking mind. It was an epic way to end de-loused. The Mars Volta are flat-out amazing! (p.s don't give me shit for my name it's not referencing MTV the channel)
This is best band ever and will live forever in my opinion. Mouthofknives should go back to listening to Brittney Spears or The Backstreet Boys and leave the real music to people who can actually appreciate it.
...i don't get in wich way the word progressive could apply with only certain kind of music. I think naming a form of music with an adjective it is not the best way to categorize, well... i guess that's why i dislike the term.
Besides the obvious great voice and drumming and bass and guitar playing, I really like Isiah's keyboard parts, they're often in the background, but I think they give it that extra difference.
Nahh, compcommie is more or less spot on. For about 3 months it's been generally common knowledge that their new album is due out in September. And if you Wiki it, that says "mid to late 2007". So, ..yeah.
But I said my display name has nothing to do with MTV the tv channel. We're talking about the mars volta here if you need to blow steam about MTV go to a video about the channel.
@WhenWorldsCollide91 jaja yes i know. iIve seen them live twice , neither of them high , so next time i'd probably smoke some good shit just before they perform ;)
I actually think Cedric sounds better than usual here (live)
matthew britt They still had something to prove in this era.
cedric's vocals are spot-on in this one, really good and it's an awesome jam as well.
i forget that a band is making this sound. its like space just threw this on the earth and said enjoy. I am so glad the mars volta happened. Music is indescribable. Thank you.
their keyboard player makes me smile :) he seems really jovial over there
These guys are such fucking magic. I listened to Deloused twice a day from 2003-2005.
They are music made flesh.
I listen to deloused everyday. Especially while I'm asleep.
Back when the volta was the VOLTA. Theodore's grooves fitted perfectly.
When Cedric's voice was pure gold
i only have one friend who likes them , besides my brother
best band on earth anything involving cedric and omar is beautiful
i seriously cant get enough of this vid. i listen to it at least every day. its helped me to stop being such a tightass with my music. GOD DAMN they are so loose but have such a smooth tight sound. im never going to listen to nonlive recordings again i swear.
ZEKE
I love this band
Words cant even describe how amazing this single piece of footage is.
Ahhh, I fucking love The Mars Volta
i love this song on the cd..and its even better when they jam live!!!
sick!
It is, search cerpin taxt and watch the beginning of the one titled "(Pt. 2) Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt at the Electric Ballroom".
Holy shit that is amazing. I love Omar's playing during the jam.
Gave me chills! 5/5
Yeh i agree completely - such a well-structured session that just leads straight into such an awesome song. Mars Volta has much more to come =D
tmv is fucking nuts. i don't know how the hell every member knows to go the next section of the tune during their extended jams, but they do it flawlessly every time. i'm talking about 4:30. insane.
i like the adam jonesy bit at 2:30
dampened tool guitar, he must be a fan :-)
Oh man, when they go into Take The Veil at the very end, it's awesome.
The Cerpin taxt didn't have a true friend.
AMAZING! THANK YOU
verdammt übel. unglaublich verdammt übel. das ist sooooooooooooooooooooo geil.
runterkommen. muh.
Juan is the moferfuckin shit, seriously he is a fuckin monster on that bass
He's singing "They don't plug these keys in" to the melody of "Raindrops Fallin on My Head"
Omar sucks right around 5:00. Everything before that was better than the album version.

Their first EP was in 2002...
@@yeahmateyeah8649 I was just trying to point out how early this was. It was an extremely limited show (as far as tickets) to my knowledge. yes, you're right
i did =D
and for that i apologise.
i always just watch this video for the bass jam =P
peace
At the drive-in!
pretty fuckin amazing, my favourite track from them..
holy shit im so high and this is amazing
Got me through the day
Goddamn it do I miss the old TMV :(
That makes sense, but I have to ask: What word is it you want to use and on whom? And what is your motivation for wanting to say it?
its more like a jam w/ cerpin taxt at the end.
you can't really listen to just one song, but here's a few good ones
-L'via L'viaquez
-Tetagrammton
-Roulette Dares
...there's more, but if you really want to listen to them, just listen to each album all the way through...Mars Volta doesn't really write songs, they make albums
end of the month, downloads capped
took me 40 minutes to load this video
worth every fucking second
Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt ....also known as Juan and Omar's psychedelic freakout!
I heard Cedric is starting a new band soon. If anyone has any more info about it please comment. Loved At the Drive and LOVE Volta. Thank You!
Babies on fire
bass wah (dunlop 105q) and probably the big muff pi fuzz pedal...
Damn that is funny dude.
thats cool...im a lazy bum too. too lazy to learn music. so I pull it out by ear.
damn nice (:
does any one know if this gig is on dvd or something?
greetz
Yeah, they don't write just songs. Every album is a Series of movements in one big musical piece.
How does Juan make the sound at :28 a with his bass? it sounded "watery" for lack of a better word.
Dude this is refreshing.
Zeppelin much? I love these guys' sound.
Viva Juan!!!
naw dude they use to do mdma lsd shrooms and blaze before every show and he was still doin crazy stuff so the possibility of them bein faded would not shock me at all
Is that flea on bass? He played on deloused I believe. Sounds like flea. Good ol' flea.
I would had a rage fight w/ everyone on my side.. hahaha
FUCKING LOVE IKEY
When this concert ended, the audience didn't know what the fuck they just saw. All they know is that their ears got raped, and they liked it.
remember jeremy ward?
TMV !
holy shit
The keyboardist (ikey) seems really into it, too bad i cant hear nothing coming out of those keys...
ah... ^_^ my day is just that much better
Yeah, I was playing off that. The thing about internet text, loss of subtext. :P
Part 2
2:38 Holy volta how does Cedric do that?
im not good enough to do that yet :( im only half-decent at playing... anyways yeah ^_^
I miss this lineup so much, Jon Theodore is amazing.
how can you even contemplate trying to analyse this
its just a great performance from a great band
nothing to it.
BASSIST kills this track. 3:45 IS INCREDIBLE. All together.. amazing.
wow... la verdad que en vivo no hay nada parecido... tienen la energía de los rockeros de antaño U_U combinada con una frescura increíble, un estilo muy propio y mucho, mucho, mucho conocimiento musical
the end of this song i think is TMV's single greatest moment. both live and in studio. it's so fucking epic and perfect.
Totally agree!
i'm totally with you on that one. especially in songs like "amputechture"
theyre all ridiculously talented musicians
i actually forget its a song...its like some kind of sounds spawned out of space. I am so glad the mars volta happened. Music is so lovely and without it, life is just awkward silence.... thank you.
Makes me think of some kinda modern Led Zeppelin!
@kranen1 Omar's a really complex guitarist. He takes a lot of risks with his playing, but I'd say most of the time he gets you to BELIEVE that what he's playing is within the key.
Which is...baffling.
absolutely addicted to Mars Volta!
This is the greatest band coming out in the last 10 years. They have such a classic rock flavor in their so 21st century sound.
Ced's voice is AMAAAZING I can't even emphasize enough
The best god damned band ever.
They really need to turn the keyboard up.
one of the most technical bands around with odd time signatures and drastic key signature changes. LOVE!
This is The Mars Volta
its great to see singers improvise too. anthony keidis should have done more improv with the chilis, it makes jams sound like songs and throws another 'voice' in the mix. This is one great jam at teh start of a great track, take the veil is my fave volta song
