What’s crazy about this band is they own a bar in El Paso and you can just go right in and they’ll be sitting In there I saw them there at least 50 times
+Writing Alias Nope. The Mars Volta were simply gifted with two of the best drummers in the world during their stint...John Theodore and Thomas Pridgen.
***** lol yeah...but those other guys don't count. Theodore and Pridgen are two of the best drummers ever. May not play for the most popular bands...but read up on them. They're highly regarded drummers.
Realzi Yeah Jon Theodore will always be my favorite. His latin roots made his beats more unique and groovy. Pridgeon is the man, but I feel like he tends to fly off the handle. Their albums with him were too frenetic if you know what I mean. They lost something special when Jon left. But he's the new Queens of the Stone Age drummer, so it's all good.
I know everyone is talking about Thomas, but we can all stop for a second and realize Omar's solo over of the verse kicks raw ass, seriously probably my favorite live solo of his.
Coming back to this whole set years later, but man the fill that Thomas starts at 4:44 and ends at 4:51 going over the bar line into the accents of the B section of that solo, and the look of “FUCK YA” on Omar’s Face is so genuinely awesome
@@Childofbhaal “We’ve been warning you guys, we were saying ten years ago that the most revolutionary thing we could do was make a pop record,” says vocalist Omar Rodríguez-López over Zoom, repeating what has almost become a slogan in the promotion for the new album. He sees it as just another step forwards for a band who have always valued constant progression. “We’re in our mid-to-late 40s and you can’t just still be doing the same shit, expecting to wear an old t-shirt that doesn’t fit any more.” ✌🏼
@@Childofbhaal Don‘t get me wrong. I love all the Volta records. They were all great, and all the drummers (Theodore, Pridgen, Elitch, Parks) were amazing. We have the records, we have the recordings, the live shows. We could see all of that while ist was happening. You had to be there, or you missed it. That‘s just how live goes. That being said- I really love the new record. It is really good! You should give ist another chance! Maybe you should listen to ist for WHAT IT IS, not for what you WANT IT TO BE. Volta was always about moving forward, about innovation. And I willing to be on this journey, wherever they go.
Back when they starting getting some popularity in earlier 2000s my friend begged me to check them out. He kept saying the drummer will blow your mind. I was in to a lot of stoner rock at the time, more chill stuff. I saw this show was coming on tv so DVR it and when I finally brought myself to watch it I was pissed at myself for holding out so long on them. Immediately I became obsessed and still love and admire their style today.
You can’t properly head bang to this music, back then you just let Mars Volta take you into an acid induced trance like coma where the riffs, vocals and beats take you for a ride.
¿Por qué la gente está tan tranquila? Quiero decir, ¡por favor, están tocando Viscera Eyes, rompan algo! En Argentina seguramente quemábamos un patrullero con esta canción (? jajaja.
One thing that has me coming back to tmv's music constantly is that I have zero idea what any of their songs are actually about. Especially this though, given that it's mostly in Spanish.
I was lucky enough to catch them at Fillmore in Miami Beach with my son, feels like about 10 years ago and I was going pretty nuts in the pit. I didn't follow them closely enough to know if this is the complete original line-up (obviously the guitarist and singer are) but this band has always been incredibly special, gifted and unique. I think they may always go under the radar for the masses of rock fans because they are just levels and levels above what most people are willing to try to wrap their heads around but I, for one, have a tremendous respect for them playing to their potential rather than dumbing it down for the masses and commercial success.
I met him like 3 days ago before his new band played. He is awesome. They are awesome. ...I'm pretty sure at one point, his drumset actually orgasmed from how hard Thomas Pridgen was fucking it. Literally. Literally.
Omar and Larry Lalonde share a special spot. greatest madmen you never focused on.. also shout out to thomas and jon the best drummers ever to be fired. fuck furthermore R.I.P. IKEY.
im proud to say that as of yesterday i learned 2 whole mars volta albums on drums. bedlam in goliath and amputechture. pretty good for a 15 year old drummer if i do say so myself lol
How lucky are we all, that these musicians found each other?
One of the greatest bands to have ever formed!!
Agreed. I have friends that are nuts about the grateful dead. This is my grateful dead.

This band is crazy awesome to see live. Something I will never forget.
This drummer has the perfect mic set up or something. Those tones are more crisp than fresh squeezed lemon juice.
+Writing Alias Eww it sounds so pooty and poppy needs some rasp and thud

tell me you have watched the barakaldo cygnus solo
Every Pridgen's beat is like a bomb exploding. Amazing.
One of Omar's greatest riffs!
This riff vaguely reminds me of Rush's Show Don't Tell. I really like both riffs and you don't hear chord sequences like them too often.
fun fact, they had a generator hooked upto Pridgens kick pedal, and it was powering the whole gig..
Another fun fact, he's naturally left handed, but plays it as a right handed drummer.
He is a beast!
@@sanitallica Another fun fact: Metronomes practice to Thomas Pridgen to get tighter
Hes great but deantoni parks is nother level
@@nayrtnartsipacify all TMV’s drummers have been phenomenal in their own unique ways. I prefer not to rate them against each other
Cannot WAIT to see em for the first time in June this year

Pridgen's overflowing power held in the tightness of this groove is unbelievable
Nothing but pure talent for sure!
Their playing brings me temporarily out of my bouts of depression

New Mars Volta is so lame and boring. Theodore and Pridgen brought so much energy to the band

I swear to god that fucking "Yehiwwww" at the end kills the whole vibe
I agree but I find it really amusing
Wow, this is an insane performance. Thomas Pridgen is a beast
It's hilarious how at nearly every footage of a Mars Volta show there's always a small handful of guys trying to look like Cedric and Omar.
Same with any metal band. Hero stuff.
funny how every country concert has people wearing cowboy hats
@@edwardthegreat1382 Haha and I bet they aren't even real cowboys
This is an underrated comment!🤣

so true 👌

I just spent the past hour and half watching this over and over, it's by far the best live show I've seen by The Mars Volta, such a fun show to watch.

Thomas Pridgen stick change at 5:17, very slick!
