This is the biggest day for destiny. The Destiny superbowl, raid day! This is an event that brings together everyone to see what Destiny has to offer and on the chopping block, we have CROTA! This is the raid that got revenge on the entire destiny community the raid that got revenge on Destiny. In season of the witch, he is all but fitting to be a cursed boss. Crota was viscous and the community was tenacious, lets see how day 1 went down!

Is there any word when players that finished the raid on Challenge will get the emblem if the game did not give it to them? This happened to my team and we still don’t have the emblem.

You said in the video that the chalice person needed to cross the bridge at the same time as someone that has a sword. Who ever has the chalice can cross at any time

He's not wrong, the chalice holder does need to cross with the sword bearer to help clear the ads.

My favorite reprised raid contest experience by far.
Bridge was the most fun encounter for me.
I agree. I feel that it had the most substantial reworks alongside new and fun mechanics. While the only 4 encounters still hurt it, it is definitely more than enough considering the length and complexity of some of these encounters. My team got demolished by Ir Yut day 1 and had to stall to day 2 to even beat her. It’s probably one of my favorite raids in d2 now.
The mechanics are good, it’s just really slow. There should be more way to speed up chalice and sword bearer spawns.

i liked when crota appeared in the middle of the raid, said "Its Ending time", and ended everyone, truly a crotas end moment
The reason ppl didn't get to beat Crota in D1 was because of how buggy it was. Don't you guys remember Crota following ppl inside the chamber? Or Crota following players all the way to the ground? Or Crota coming back to life after you "Killed" him? Or Crota summoning multiple Oversouls? Or Crota not taking a knee when the shield went down? It was so buggy when it launched.
I vividly remember him ‘taking a knee’ was more crapshoot than mechanic. Sooo much fun back when in D1

Crota is such a massive W for D2 the game needed this. Sure things will get back to the usual complaining but this will hold me over for a while.
I think destiny had been so bad for hardcore players lately because Kings fall isn’t that good on repetition and RoN is only engaging for 1-2 people for the majority of the raid lol. Vow was the last time we got a raid that is easily carryable but also still provides a version of a challenge

Oryx: Begone, and return victorious or perish. Crota failed so he perished. Many hive have come back, even though yes we did kill him in his throne room. We stole Crota essence creating a loophole, like Oryx still living within the ToM. Crota returns via sword logic stronger. Now he is victorious.
I feel like people misunderstand Oryx “surviving” in ToM. It wasn’t *literally* him surviving. It was his ethics. His code. His teaching.
“So I will prepare a book, which is a map to a weapon. And my vanquisher will read that book, seeking the weapon, and they will come to understand me, where I have been and where I was going. And then they will take up my weapon, and they will use it, they will use that weapon, which is all that I am. So, it’s less literal, and a philosophical victory.
Whereas, with Crota, we’re basically hijacking the essence of the Darkness to refuel a husk of a weapon. A weapon that may surely honor him, yes, but not much more than that.
Nah, when Crota's End pops up to tell you it's out the description says "Relive the end of Crota" meaning it's a memory as are all of the D1 raids.

That’s why he’s dead and in need of resurrection by the Traveler’s beam in the introductory cutscene of lightfall at all. The raid’s gear literally has a lore panel chronicling Nezarec screaming in rage and dying after Savathûn fought him 1v1 and won.

Savathûn took Nezarec out, and his last moments were spent clawing at the floor and seething in rage as his body failed him. Peak Oryx>>>Savathûn>Nezarec.
If what you were saying had any merit, Nezarec wouldn’t have beem a corpse for the events of D1 and D2 up until resurrection.

The raid to slap people back to reality, who thought they were hot sh* just cause they did root of nightmares without knowing/ doing the mechanics on day 2

I haven’t really done much raiding since D1, but I do love watching your videos, Evan! It’s amazing to see the intensity, ferocity, and teamwork you all out into it. At the time in D1, over half of our raid group was absolutely drunk, the others were babysitters lol
For a cheese on Crota, the team I was with caught wind that you could bait Crota to launch off the back of his arena. With lament sword guarding, you can tank his hits. So you would get him to swing at you while back against the “U” shaped structure in the back. He would surf off on it because of how it was shaped, and fly off the map and killing him. There were videos of it, but not at a good angle. We got it to happen ONE time, but where he landed, he could teleport back up. Whether bungie patched this before we heard about it or we did it wrong, I’m not sure. But I will say, it was a lot of fun watching Crota get his surf on 😎

I really enjoyed how this Day One felt like a return to form in terms of difficulty. Not only that, but in the lore, Crota is not meant to be a pushover. He's the son of a Hive god and he's back with a vengeance!! Very well done

I was listening to the last 15 mins of the stream of world’s first in my car. Had to pick up the wife. One constructive critique. Commentate on what is going on in the moment. I had no idea what was going on. All I kept hearing was your excitement instead of calling out the action like a play by play announcer. I literally had no idea what was happening. That would help because not everybody is watching, they are also listening. Thanks for the effort and I look forward to you and CB’s calls in the Final Shape.

My first day 1 contetst mode compleation was Root of Nightmares, so beating Crota on contest and challenge was incredibly validating for me

love that even a week in, first encounter still takes up like 90% of my time running this raid.
I have been waiting for this video since the raid race and it's a banger! The rifle gaming part was great I used to watch his destiny vids all the time as well as his fallout 76 vids so this made me super happy to see.
I rebinged watched all the past raid videos while waiting for this. Im so excited!
34:17 the challenge was "rotate the chalice before someone gets it twice" I think, not about enlightened referring to how the last person can preserve the chalice.
35:07 and I think the challenge for Crota was bringing the shield down at once, as in it also worked with two swords..
But regardless, great commentary, great analysis throughout the day one raid race and overall. Thanks for the great video, not only a good recap, but this is just history.

20:26 i have played destiny since the dark below and never knew shriekers had a level indicator. i just scouted for wizards based on radar opacity of enemies (bright was your floor, dim was other floor)
also 1st encounter challenge the way i saw it was you can only enlighten a lamp for as many times as you’ve preserved (conservation) so my team kept track of preserves and enlightens and made sure the number of enlightens was less than or equal to the number of preserves and we made it. the second we enlightened one more than preserve we wiped
correction on the lantern cheese. you only need one person on that top floor for it work. also the ones running have to make it to the ramp and that's what makes the thrall spawn up there. my team found it when i went up there just to mess around. it help on our challenge run
Contest mode should be an option, maybe giving a higher chance for oversouls or possible bonus chance at red borders or something.

We had to kill ir yut 2x on challenge mode because the first time the encounter just didnt count as completed and we wiped after killing her. Then we killed challenge crota, got the chest spawn and everything and wiped through oversoul and didnt get the emblem triumph for challenge mode ( even raid report says that we completed it on challenge mode and we have video proof) but a lot of other players have the same problem and i hope they fix the emblem because spending 33 hours in a raid race without getting the reward for finishing feels pretty bad

the words of a casual. div nerf was necessary. the well nerf isn't even bad. most endgame content is trivial with what we have. the subclass tuning will be healthy for the game. the "larger player base" doesn't understand that if content is too hard for THEM, it shouldn't be advocates towards them by making it easier. endgame content is endgame content. if you can beat something, either get better or shut your damn mouth.

Shoutout to the 2 hour window after contest mode where contest crota checkpoints still dropped necrochasm despite contest being completely over
There is a cheese at Ir Yut. You can pick up the chalice before the encounter even starts by jumping to the roof near the bottom of the crystal that starts the crota encounter. Though it’s not really a cheese it just makes the encounter more convenient since you’re entire team can get enlightened except for one person and when that person dies with the chalice, you don’t waste a rez and the chalice just goes back to its normal place.
What my team did was just have someone with Stronghold and lament on and keep crota busy in the corner while someone threw a healing made occasionally
That's what I did as well. Wasn't much fun after a while, but it kept the rest of the team safe from Crota at least.
D2 Crota (on contest) was basically just him during the Great Disaster.

Now that I’m thinking about it… it makes sense to bring back siva last in the wrath of the machine raid since siva creates and it’s a major ass role in our guardian lore with the iron banner and the iron lords fighting the plague. I think that would tie in pretty well to guardian adaptability and maybe using it for something important🤷♂️
Back when Root of Nightmares was the next big raid, I had commented talking about how Contest Mode needed to evolve just like the player base. Nice to see it happened for Crota's End, a raid I wanted to see (and it most certainly did) improve. Speaking from experience and all the mind numbing I went through with others, I'm happy with how this turned out despite all the frustration and struggle from those 2 days. 🤔😌
Even more so after getting my 1st Crota clear. I did loudly pop off a little too hard and had a coughing fit, and over did it when I spanned my foot, along with my back going sore too. The satisfaction of earning raid clears folks. 😅😌
I really like the subtle changes with this raid. Like the lamps blowing up when theyre orange instead of turning red so my entire team wiped and were shocked.
And then the radius of your plat is smaller in bridge and if they go red theres no moment of grace to recover.
Just sublte changes that throw off the d1 vets
FYI 23:40 when you kill her just as the timer reaches 0, if you get to the next damage phase just like you normally would, it completes the encounter.
I remember doing this on contest mode the second day. Completed bridge encounter and knew the mechanics for it on the first, then LFG’d on the second, and paired up with a guy who did complete bridge under contest, but didn’t actually understand how the encounter worked. And believed (among other things) that the chalice had to be ferry’s across the bridge with the enlightened player, to spawn the sword carrying nights. On top of that the dude would argue any other way that was suggested, including the actual and normal way of doing it. When the normal way was suggested he said “Yeah that could work,” and proceed right back to trying to direct everyone towards his completely unnecessary method

Not something that many people know about, but you can bait the gatekeepers off the map for bridge. On day 1 I was the first one across and this is what I’d do, then I’d swap to strand to help guy 2
Cross' team was third and only like 20s behind too. Just a wild race.

for ir yut you can still cut some mechanic it by claiming calice before encounter start
get a solar warlock heat rises go float at crystal at front side if you fly at right spot there is "Claim chalice of light" and start giving people enlightent after that give last chalice to divinity user so they can kill themself using rocket and then all you need to do for scout just find 3 wizard, kill her at same time, and start DPS without waiting for trading chalice

Idk if people did this but I used a sound cue for finding the wizards in the middle of the ir yut room. The wizards make a humming noise if you listen out for it

I think one of the biggest changes to the Crota encounter is actually where he spawns. In D1, he appeared all the way in the back, where the portal is. But now? Dude shows up IN YOUR FACE and ready to throw hands. It IMMEDIATELY boosts the tension of the encounter, cause he's RIGHT THERE

Me and two friends attempted day 1, we didn’t get it. But we had a memorable lamps completion. We ran out of revive tokens and 3 people were dead as we were building the bridge to get out of lamps encounter, then my brother died leaving me and a random as the bridge finished with roughly 25 seconds till light faded and we both spammed Eager edge as hard as we could and got to the Bridge encounter with 3 seconds to spare after spending an hour or so on lamps🤣
Dude this raid was awesome. I only wish I could have taken part in the raid race. I think it was amazing. The raid is awesome (I got to complete it a couple days later).
Managed to make it all the way to crota last night now we just have to figure him out as my squad went in blind

You saying the non threatening enemies post contest is super accurate, even on my alternate characters without good builds most of the enemies except bosses weren’t threatening
I cried like a little girl. I slept only 3h out of 45 so it will be honest to say that I gave all of my weekend to this raid.
I got to the last encounter (with the SOB himself) when I still had 15h ahead.
It will be easy, I thought.

At normal I got him slapped like a piece of toilet paper, but CM?
My first and the most severe mistake was that I was abandoned by all of my friends and went to CM all be myself and some LFG randomees.
Ugh.
I got Necrochasm after slapping Crota at normal 10 min after CM ended though.

RoN was my first Day 1 and it was disappointing that it was that easy and this time I didn’t even had the time to play the Crota Day 1 because of my work, but my Clan did it and they got the emblem, hope the next Raid is hard and I can take part of this experience
