During my first run of the game. I was wandering around hunting / clearing secret locations to level up when suddenly the cutscene where the ice giant was feeding the harpies near the shipwreck started. I remember spending almost 2 hours trying to finish this quest with no markers or any details. met Hjalmar the first time ever when he was busy fighting this wyvern thingy. and the dialogue between the two made me pause the game and search online to find out that I'm in the middle of a mission that's started by accident.
this exact thing happened to me!! i went to undvik first thing in skellige to get the master armorer's tools. remember thinking what an interesting, unique area it was in comparison to the rest of skellige... until that first cutscene when i realised id started a quest by accident. funny thing is i obviously hadnt even met hjalmar and cerys at that point, so when geralt started saying all that stuff about tailing hjalmars men i had no idea who he was talking about :') think i got all the way through to the giants meat locker for the tools and then left before i ruined the quest too badly lmao
@@ripceridart i have completed the quest blind with no markers. I felt bad though. I felt like this bug made me lose some bits of the story. I'm planning to play a newgame+ for story purposes only with no other distractions on the side.
Happened to me as well. I headed straight to Undvik for armorer’s tools once I got to Skellige. I didn’t know that there would be another quest, so everything related to the giant and Hjalmar got me confused as hell. I was running around poking at everything, thinking “What a weirdly designed quest to find some tools, wtf is going on”
They shouldn't have plagued the map with question marks imo. It breaks exploration and leads to events as you described. Also they are not necessary, they are boons not goals. If someone does not want to explore and discover things, why should they be cursed with question marks? They will be most likely disappointed anyway, if they deprecate exploration. "Oh swell some mats, a useless sword and a random line from a random npc."
Another thing english speakers might not have realized is that "undvik" literally means "avoid" in swedish. It made me really wanna go there the first time I heard it lol. The pronunciation Geralt is using sound closer to swedish so that's the right one in my book. I always liked how Skellige seemed a bit like vikings had taken over England and together their culture and language sort of mixed and became a hybrid of the two. Not quite Anglo - Saxon and not quite viking either.
Well Vikings did take over England and everything that ensued was just like you said 😂 lol but I know what you meant. People don’t realize just how “Nordic/Danish/Swedish” England really was. It would’ve looked much like Skellige. Course not the badass armor especially like Lugos clan wears (my favorite armor in the whole game especially the helmets besides the normal infantry helmets of the Nilfgaardians which look very similar those cool metal looking horns on their Ancient Roman style helmets)
Clan Drommund armor. That’s one thing I LOVE about Skellige if you pay attention. All clans have unique armors and especially unique helmets. Like I said the coolest helmets in the game aside from Nilfgaard. In fact I feel like Clan Drommund probably got their helmets from dead Nilfgaardians during their raids. Because they look really similar to what the Nilfgaardians wear. And not only that, they look more Roman than the Nilfgaardians we see in game. But who knows Nilfgaard is such a huge empire I’d bet the clan Drommund helmets do come from a specific Legion of a specific province.
@@jamieburn4577 Yeah how one plays a game differs from person to person. I try to be thorough and not miss cool side quests. But I guess I just missed this one. Also, It's a quest that's always been buggy for me.
What??? There is 2 tasks after you reach the first hjalmar's camp, then you pick up 2 different trails with Geralt's witcher senses, if you decided to take left and go to the end, wouldn't it bother you guys to not know what you missed if you went right first? I mean usually when I encounter these situations, I try to follow the path where I'm not supposed to go first, to be able to do everything that's possible and not fail anything, of course in 2015 when I first played, I didn't know which path I should take, so I just saved manually at the point before I needed to make a choice, and then follow one path, then come back to the other path and do something about it and keep going back and forth until I realize what I need to do to complete all tasks from one path and then switch to the other path to follow it through to the end properly and correctly, nowadays of course I already know what I can do first before finishing the quest incompletely, so I finish all the side tasks first and then go to the place where you finally meet hjalmar

Even 8 years after it was released, there’s STILL details we are discovering in this phenomenal game! Wow.. Absolutely LOVE this game-so much content and gameplay in it, amazing stories, and their attention to detail is just RIDICULOUS! One of my all time favs!
Dude I literally did this. It;s my first time playing withcer 3 and I just decided to explore Skellige at level 19, and directly found Hjalmar fighting the Sirens like 2 days ago. It did feel like I was doing something out of order but I couldn't help but appreciate the fact that the developers thought of this possibility and still made it fun for me as a player stumbling onto the "quest". So cool that you decided to cover this specific quest
This might be a basic question, but what about the mini- quest that the jarl of undvik gives you? The one where you need to collect twine & nails? I don't think I've ever actually found all the required material. Does it actually do anything? One of the most in- depth Witcher videos I've ever seen, really well made!
It's kind of confusing - there's no actual quest twine you need to find, you just need the common crafting twine you'll definitely already have. The nails are a quest item you have to find, so it's a little weird. To answer your question, you just get a little XP if you give the items to him before killing the giant. If you wait until after, no XP. It doesn't make a difference in his ending or anything.
I love these deep breakdowns, you're basically digging so deep into the core of a quest it gives us a completely different perspective to the whole game, keep it up 👍
Good video, keep up the great work. Also, one thing I found: If you don't visit herbalist in White Orchard, and find lure yourself. And if you come after slaying the griffin, you can still ask about what happened to that girl herbalist was trying to heal, even trough you never saw or heard about her
Similarly, if you go to the griffins nest you can’t investigate anything but you get a marker straight there after talking to the captain. You won’t have to meet Mislav. Also, the undercover Temerian soldier has a camp in the woods
Both of these have happened to me my first play through because I tend to do too much exploring in open world games(if that’s even possible), so I had already found both the griffin nest and some buckthorn. Because I had unintentionally completely skipped most of the Contract quest, I never realized there had even been a herbalist merchant in White Orchard until my second game. 😑
you started your channel just days after I decided to 100% the witcher 3 for the second time. I'm loving these videos and I never knew that you could go about so many quests in a roundabout way. Keep making the great content!
I didn't know that this was the first side quest designed for the game, that's really cool! And it really does explain why it's so different compared to the rest. Thanks for putting in all the hours to show us every side of it you could, it's so cool to see how many variations the designers created!! I always wondered what happened to the boat guy, good to know he didn't just disappear only for me lol
This mission is definitely the most complex. Only on my third playthrough I was able to save all of them for Kaer Morhan. Very well explained. Keep up the good work.
Hey fellow Witcher fans! This game has gripped me like no other. The music, the sense of adventure, an amazing world to explore, and the huge journey are some of what really appeals to me. I love extreme contrasts for some reason and this game delivers. Consider how vastly different the setting is where you start in the room with Yen enjoying a bath compared to where the adventure ends with you enjoying some mandrake hooch with Regis over-looking a small lake in Toussaint and sooooo much variety in between! I like to climb back into that very room at Kaer Morhen (VERY DIFFICULT, but possible) at level 100 and reminisce. It’s sad and lonely without Yen, Vesimir, Lambert, and Eskel tho! It’s also nice to go back to White Orchard and visit the campsite you camped at with Vesimir. Such an amazing game… Anyway, thanks for reading!
The stairs??? I swear I took the stairs. It has the tub and that tri-thingy the sorceresses use? Might be thinking of Crach's but thought you could access up a winding staircase at Kaer Morhen.
Really fantastic video! The Lord of Undvyk is a favourite of mine as it's always felt so unique! Fantastic to see all the different ways that the quest can go! Thanks for the video!
Jeez.... I thought I've seen all there was to dig, that's this complex and deep in the Witcher 3, but you somehow found something xLetalis hasn't broached yet, Bravo! Also, the fact that you "fixed" dialogue that was meant to happen was just such a nice icing on the cake for me, goes to show how much there can still be found in the game files, and the shackles hint at how much more cut content there is that we'd absolutely love to see in the enhanced edition.
What is frustrating about this quest is that the Master Armorer quest that you get shortly after getting to Crows Perch…tells you to come here. So if you’re like me the first time I played this game…you couldn’t understand what the hell was happening when you got to the island.
Another interesting video I will have a blast watching when I have the time! (It's currently 12 am so I'm going to sleep) Just wanted to say that the channel is amazing and I can't wait for more content! Keep it up
This is what happened on my very first playthrough! I had cleared the Novigrad quests and only sailed over to get the Armorer’s tools. Witcher 3 being my first game, I didn’t know what an “an Craite” was and managed to find the giant and tools without running into the boat or camp at all. It was so cool on my second play through to find it all as intended, save homie and see the endgame ruin long before I had to go there! Such a great game.
This is my favorite questline, thanks for reminding me of it in these hard times (last year of high school) when i don't even have the time to play the game.
good to have more folk working on this game and its many angles and cutscenes. Also nice that whatever armour or haircut you have will also appear in the scene for a game this old.
I love your channel mate, i thought i knew so much about W3 played over 500+ hours changing the way i did my play through each time. I never went about playing the game in a different order. Thanks for showing this its quite entertaining and i honestly believe you will grow extememly fast.
This is the first video I've seen on this particular quest and it's variations. So glad to see fresh Witcher content. Seems like we'll never be rid of this masterpiece. Awesome video dude, hope to see more from you soon!
I finished the quest on my own and not met Hjalmar at all on Undvik I think. I found the boat and went looking for the giant and killed him and eventually returned to the broken boat guy. I think I missed a lot of content but thats how the game works giving you the freedom to explore the world on your own.
Does it change any outcomes on Skellige? I saw this question asked a couple of times in the comment section and was actually hoping to get some answers about it in this video.
I found this quest by chance while exploring, it was honestly a great first time witcher player experience, just finding such an important character and proper quest without the game handholding you.
Holy shit, there's so much more to this quest than I ever thought. On most of my playthroughs, I just ran straight to hjalmar, and during one playthrough, I went through the cave with a tree, I didn't even know there were other npcs on Undvik apart from Hjalmar and Vigi, even the troll chefs.
I'm playing on a switch and your video is so much crisper than what I've played 50+ hours on. Makes me want to cloud save to my Xbox and play on that copy
I'm always paranoid I'll miss something in games if i take a wrong turn or whatever but knowing there's so many options in this game and it's all been thought it is really cool.
Great video. And don't sweat making witcher videos in 2021. I only just played the game for the first time in 2022, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. That's the thing about cult classics, content surrounding them is relevant waaaay longer than it would be in most cases.
I remember trying to do this but I couldn't find the way into the cave before the quest, I searched for a few hours for an open entrance because I had gone up to the forge nearby for the master tools, but I never found the entrance, sad to see I almost found this out on my own so I'm happy to be able to experience it here! Keep up the amazing content! 😍
As a min maxing perfectionist in most video games im really glad you made this channel. I would love to find out all these things by myself but i simply dont have the time. Thank you for doing this.
My guess about knowing Geralt on sight would be by description, since I'm sure tales were told of Geralt to him in years past considering his father's friendship with the famous Witcher.
this proves that witcher 3 is way more well thought beyond anyones imagination , 2021 and we get to know something new about this game , that's why i love this game , the best game of all time for me
Thanks for the upload! I'm going to run a new campaign soon thanks to your vids inspiring me! EDIT: On your final words, this video was definitely interesting start to finish! I enjoy seeing the contrast between the normal sequence of events and the out of order ones.
Thanks for doing the job of breaking the game to find its secrets. I am always interested in discovering something new in this old but still gold game.
In my witcher playtrought first thing i did in skelige was this quest to find Tools for the Grandmaster armorer in Velen and i thought that this ice gigant was just a side quest. Thanks to you now i know that it isn't just a side quest XD
First time I played the game I went to Undvik before starting this quest and was utterly confused. Definitely didn't find our friend in the troll pot. I think I left the island "mid quest", because I was really just exploring, and finished it after properly getting the quest. The whole thing was a mess. Did it right during my second playthrough, but man, it's so easy to miss something in this quest. It being the first quest they designed makes sense. Too bad they didn't revisit it later on to polish it up.
I get the feeling they kind of gave up on this quest toward the end and just wanted to move on. There's too many weird things with the Lord of Undvik (the guy in the boat) and other loose ends that feel unfinished compared to the polish of other quests.
Magnificently done, you did the great job. Thanks to this video I've got to know some interesting facts about this game. As a huge witcher fan I appreciate it so much.

I seriously can’t believe there are things still being discovered about this game!! Great work!
Great video! Also: the "In the Giant's Shadow" OST is soooo underrated
Skellige music in general is amazing. It's crazy how many top-tier tracks were left off of the OST
@@NeonKnight very true
I'd love to see how you get back into that tower!
The stairs??? I swear I took the stairs. It has the tub and that tri-thingy the sorceresses use? Might be thinking of Crach's but thought you could access up a winding staircase at Kaer Morhen.
New game +
Been loving this back-catalogue of Witcher videos, the scripting glitches are hilarious
The dialogue about "what happened to the rest of your crew" has been fixed in 4.0.
(It's currently 12 am so I'm going to sleep)
Just wanted to say that the channel is amazing and I can't wait for more content! Keep it up
thank you! 😎
This is literally a deep dive into topic, great job!
I'm obsessed with this game and I'm always wondering "I wonder what happens if I chose X instead?!" This channel answers that for me. So fun to watch!
This is my favorite questline, thanks for reminding me of it in these hard times (last year of high school) when i don't even have the time to play the game.
i love your videos man, keep it up king.
good to have more folk working on this game and its many angles and cutscenes. Also nice that whatever armour or haircut you have will also appear in the scene for a game this old.
I like the look of grandmaster wolven armor in yellow
Another great passion project!!
I can't even imagine how much time you spent testing this
Great video ... just keep it up
Thank you for dissecting this quest for unique outcomes so I don't have to. There's just so much to it that I wouldn't know where to start.
I enjoy getting all the separate details great vid!
I mentioned this on your last video, this is so exciting! I did this on my current playthrough.
I love your channel mate, i thought i knew so much about W3 played over 500+ hours changing the way i did my play through each time. I never went about playing the game in a different order. Thanks for showing this its quite entertaining and i honestly believe you will grow extememly fast.
Dudeee You went so deep in this vid great work
Neon knight! Just when i was starting to miss you
This is the first video I've seen on this particular quest and it's variations.
You and Xletalis are the kings of Witcher 3 content. Keep up the awesome work
Such a good channel. Even after all these year you can do content like this with this beautiful game.
Keep it up brother :D
Dude is making waves, he's just started up with not very many videos but already has over a dozen thousand followers, keep it up🤟🤟
Man I have played through this game at least 12 times and I still learn cool shit from you. Thanks so much and keep the videos coming.
I found this quest by chance while exploring, it was honestly a great first time witcher player experience, just finding such an important character and proper quest without the game handholding you.
I love when games let's you do quests/objectives before the game asks you to do them.
Congrats on the growth bro the 2021 witchers gotta stay together 💪
Holy shit, there's so much more to this quest than I ever thought. On most of my playthroughs, I just ran straight to hjalmar, and during one playthrough, I went through the cave with a tree, I didn't even know there were other npcs on Undvik apart from Hjalmar and Vigi, even the troll chefs.
Thank you for all the hard work you put into making these videos. They are very high quality, and I love it!
thanks! 😎
I'm playing on a switch and your video is so much crisper than what I've played 50+ hours on. Makes me want to cloud save to my Xbox and play on that copy
cant imagine how many time you had to reload the same save. very good video
Another banger video much love from the land down Under
I'm always paranoid I'll miss something in games if i take a wrong turn or whatever but knowing there's so many options in this game and it's all been thought it is really cool.
Great video. And don't sweat making witcher videos in 2021. I only just played the game for the first time in 2022, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. That's the thing about cult classics, content surrounding them is relevant waaaay longer than it would be in most cases.
Lord of Undvik is one of the longest quests in the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, respect you spent all this time doing this
This channel is absolutely brilliant! Excellent narration and content, you're going to very well in the future! Good luck!
thanks man! 😎
I love how this channel just came out of nowhere. Seems right in time for the next-gen edition to come out and bring us all back to Witcher.
Absolutely amazing
I remember trying to do this but I couldn't find the way into the cave before the quest, I searched for a few hours for an open entrance because I had gone up to the forge nearby for the master tools, but I never found the entrance, sad to see I almost found this out on my own so I'm happy to be able to experience it here! Keep up the amazing content! 😍
As a min maxing perfectionist in most video games im really glad you made this channel. I would love to find out all these things by myself but i simply dont have the time. Thank you for doing this.
my new fav channel
Wanted to say this man I really love what you are doing
This channel is great, been here from the beginning and I'll stay :D
My guess about knowing Geralt on sight would be by description, since I'm sure tales were told of Geralt to him in years past considering his father's friendship with the famous Witcher.
great job, this is exactly what I was thinking about while playing the game these days
Man you are making me fell like playing this beautiful game again I swear
this proves that witcher 3 is way more well thought beyond anyones imagination , 2021 and we get to know something new about this game , that's why i love this game , the best game of all time for me
Thanks for the upload! I'm going to run a new campaign soon thanks to your vids inspiring me!
EDIT: On your final words, this video was definitely interesting start to finish! I enjoy seeing the contrast between the normal sequence of events and the out of order ones.
Thank You For Your Videos! You Never Fail to Deliver or Impress.
Keep it up man. These videos are so good!
the small title about the meeting hjalmar with Troll food u got me there xD
that was a really fun watch, love the content!
14:49 That is some smooooth editing right there! 👍
The legend still can surprise us all. Thank you for the video and looking forward to seeing more
i was taking a break from studying and found this video great job
I didn’t even know hjamlars archer bro and horn were a thing til my 3rd play through lol
Magnificently done, you did the great job. Thanks to this video I've got to know some interesting facts about this game. As a huge witcher fan I appreciate it so much.
just wow, so much work on this video. Thanks for good content!
Bro, now is like the best time to make a Witcher channel, it is more popular than ever.
This channel is amazing! Feel priviliged seeing the beginning of it, and will definitely see it grow!
Bro that first time walking from the docks of Skellige to that fist fight, across from the barber, was so cinematic and atmospheric. I remember the rain and the mud, made me think of Norway mixed with Ireland great game development.
Great content as always, man. I've spent over 200 hours in this game and still didn't know who Folan and The Jar of Unvik were until I saw this video
Aw man, a 22 minutes video? We are in for a treat. Nice job, mate. Your channel has been growing so fast, you deserve it!
I have watched so many of similar videos but I still find new things in yours. Impresive job, keep it up. There is never enough good Witcher 3 content. And thank you. :-D I am now going through Witcher 1 and these videos make me want to skip Witcher 2 to play 3 again.
thanks! 😎 don't skip Witcher 2!
Awesome as always 💛
These are amazing, thank you so much for making this.
Lol i was just thinking about this as i had just played and finished the lord of undvik last night. I love your content and superb editing.
