Imagine having a successful book series handed to you with every single detail figured out and a huge fan base on a golden platter and f****** it up so badly.
they seem to be doing this to quite a few stories lately, it's extremely puzzling to me! 🤔 i haven't figured out their motives yet. if they're actually trying to do something other than flop their project, it should've become quite clear a very long time ago now that whatever it is they're trying is clearly not working. yet they keep doing the same thing again and again expecting different results? really? why? can they be that stupid? or what the heck is going on?? 😵💫 i just don't get it.
@@Pearleace It's a win-win situation for them because if the new "improved" version turns out to be popular then it replaces the older one in everyone's minds and if it flops then it has tarnished the reputation of something they dislike. They don't have the ability to be able to create anything original close to Sapkowski's work so it wouldn't have been possible to be involved without doing it this way. The only way they could have conceivably done it is to remain true to the source material but that still requires skill in adaptation e.g. the Lord of the Rings trilogy or the recent Dune film - otherwise it just produces the likes of The Rings of Power.
@@SuperPico94 Unfortunately, the only ones who get anything from a class action suit are the lawyers... But it might be worth it just for the hell of it.
I remember watching the desert episode and my sister walked in, looked at the screen, and said 'She's got a lot of fucking makeup on for someone in the desert'. If it takes someone a split second glimpse of a series to see something wrong with it, it really makes you wonder whether they actually bothered watching a lot of their scenes back.
Seriously though, what's up with the amount of makeup? It's way more than it was before and sometimes it's glaringly out of place. Barbie pink lipstick and contoured cheekbones at all times just seem like too much.
All the makeup this season was so horrific even I noticed it constantly - actually can't ever remember watching another show where I've spent even a second thinking about the makeup. The costuming was pretty awful too. One thing I don't agree with the video on though is that episode was NOT faithful to the books at all, and has contributed even further to eroding Ciri's character - Ciri does not get some ghost apparition of Falka appearing to her to convince her to use chaos magic - she decides to do that herself out of desperation and hubris - taking that decision away from her defeats the entire purpose of the whole desert plot.
They’re not even giving him a chance to try. They stand by the quality of their girlfriend fan fiction. The only two things my wife remembers from Witcher games is the alcoholic troll from W2 and the unicorn from W3. I’m surprised the unicorn hasn’t shown up yet. She could do a better job than these writers. She was in fact upset that there wasn’t an entire episode of Geralt helps grieving drunk troll slaughter the villagers that killed his wife. My wife could write this episode, without speculation as to the power of vagina, and it would be better than all of seasons 2 and 3 combined.
Wizards fist-fighting. An elderly spymaster getting into a knife-fight with a superhuman monster hunter that's built like a brick shithouse. Yeah, this was well-written.
Remember it's for tiktok brains so they probably wanted an action scene at least every 10 minutes and for that to happen everyone has to be a fighter. Also visual effects for magic are more expensive than fist fighting :D
@@patrickjenkins5452 Except in the books Dijkstra had (at least) 4 Redanian guards with him, and even had a weapon. And instead of Dijkstra just telling Geralt “it’s too late to find Ciri” provoking him for no reason, he tells him that they’re going to get Ciri from Loxia to bring to Redania since she’ll be safer in Tretegor than on Thanned (and he actually has a reason to tell Geralt this since Geralt needs to be the one to get Ciri as Margarita wouldn’t let Dijkstra if Dijkstra were to ask). In the show Dijkstra provoked Geralt for no reason and then tried to get in a fist fight with him.
This kinda makes me remember how they screwed up Game of Thrones in the last two Seasons. Dijkstra, just like Tyrion went from being the smartest man in the realm to being a lobotomite.
GoT was already screwed up in S5, roughly around the time they killed Barristan who is not only still alive in the books, he BECOMES A POV. And earlier seasons had some random bullshit too, like Olly existing, whatever the fuck that Essosi OC they replaced Robb's wife with was supposed to be, and the Mountain Rescasting Olympics.
@@akechijubeimitsuhide Yup, to me you could see the first cracks right when they ran out of Source Material. I'm sworn to never watch the Shows again and have accepted that the Books are finished until Martin dies so someone else can finish it- He is incompetent.
The issue with this is... the witcher books are actually fully written, GOT wasn't even finished. game of thrones actually had a genuine reason for fucking the story up..
And they totally fucked up the ending, taking all of Ciri's autonomy away by having ghost Falka show up to tell her what to do. Again, they just don't understand any of the book subtext, or they are deliberately trying to subvert it.
@@Beer_Dad1975they understand completely and don't care. They have more money and resources to contact consultants than 99% of studios. So why do they do it? Because they hate the lore and text.
It really is impressive how every change they've made makes the story worse. Like, you'd think with an entire team of "professional writers" they'd accidentally improve one or two things just with the volume of changes. But no, they have somehow done NOTHING but make the story worse. Seriously impressive.
The best critique of this season by far. You obviously know what you're talking about in terms of the source material. It's like the writers were like "Well Henry, if you want us to honor the source material so much, we'll butcher it to drive you insane!"
It was Geralt crying for me, don't know why Cavill didn't leave right there. Geralt doesn't cry for VESEMIR because he quote "doesn't know how" yeaaah, the whole Witcher trials that every witcher is based on... let's forget that. Netflix is trash/ by trash/ for trash.
@@Themightyfrogg The whole trials thing doesn't take away emotions. Geralt says he can't cry after Vesemirs death because it's an emotional scene with Ciri. He wouldn't cry in front of his daughter. And since you brought up the games, Geralt outright says that the statement "Witcher's doesn't have feelings" is an outright lie, before he slays the cannibals east of oxenfurt.
I could barely finish S1. It wasn't that bad, but.... Honestly I had a bigger problem with the casting than Neon Knight. And it really had the makings of something not to get invested in. I figured I'd wait until the following season was out, then everyone hated that so I just couldn't be bothered. It just had "Modern audience writing" all over it from pretty early on.
Yeah same here, after the okay yet disappointing first season and the complete dumpster fire that was the second season I have given up. I love NeonKnight for reviewing this and blood origin for my daily dose of laughter.
I think I dropped 20 IQ points watching the last 3 episodes. If only Henry Cavill was also a writer on the show. Looking forward to more game or book videos from you Neon! “Winds howling”
Well that's what a good show does. It thinks for you so you don't need IQ points. But overall it's still a good finale with Geralt finally facing off Vilgefortz in an epic battle and Vilgefortz showing his bad assery fighting skills. It's not a bad ending except Cahill turning good is out of character. He played an evil guy even killing his BFF then turns good is weird. Not sure if that's in the books.
No no, this is on another continent, maybe even solar system. 😂 I almost can't even watch these reviews, but I gotta support Neon Knight. Else his suffering was all in vain 🤮🤮
to Game of Thrones defense they didn't have any more books to cover, but the Witcher did, I guess producing and writing a show when you have the blueprints is just to hard.
@@darthsampo3022yeah I think the witchers fuck ups is way worse than GoT. Although GoT’s downfall was over 4 seasons after 4 incredible seasons, the Witcher is currently 0-3 in my opinion. The Witcher series genuinely could have become Netflix’s biggest franchise with so many potential all spinoffs and a main series for like 7 seasons. But they have fucked it beyond recognition to the point where the title doesn’t even represent half is the show
@@sldarwin5615 Game of Thrones is the biggest fail in multimedia entertaiment history, GoT is the Titanic of series. They had plenty of source material but dumb & dumber decided to ignore it or cut it out, George Martin himself said that. They even refuse when Martin offered help. GoT had already reached a point where they had the biggest TV franchise and then they managed to drop the ball so bad that it was almost completely erased from colective memory, nobody talks about GoT anymore, no more memes, no more GoT fever. The Witcher never had that, TW was mid to fail since begining.
@@tobias064 what I mean is that a good Witcher series could have been Netflix’s GoT (tho not as good) imo. But of course, they hired writers that actively hated the source material
16:58 Watching that fight sequence with Ciri and Cahir is laughable. I can't help but remember the scene in the books after Ciri gets picked up from the desert and she sees these two knights fighting, and their physical strenght scares her as she realises she couldn't possibly parry a blow from one of them. Her fighting scenes in the books focus on her speed, agility and good use of her enviroment. She's a good fighter, but that doesn't mean she's as physicaly strong as her opponents.
She also doesn't become a full on badass with a sword till Bonhart gets a hold of her. She barely finishes any real training with Geralt and the other Witchers, Bonhart turns her into a savage so he can use her to make money.
@@traviss9059 You don't have a clue what you're talking about. all her sword fighting training comes from before the 1st book, when she was trained in KM. She proves she's skilled when she slays a wyvern in Gors Velen in 2nd book, and absolutely destroys Cahir (altough he wasn't fighting her, just trying to catch her, and probably wasn't expecting her to resist). Then, after surviving Korath, and months before Bonhart, she has lots of practice in sword fight when she's part of The Rats (or however it was translated in english, I read the originals). Bonhart "had" her for few weeks at best, and only 3 times when she picked a sword in that time was their 1st meeting (where she held her own against one of the most dangerous people in that books, at least in terms of sword fighting), short "sparing" at Etchevery, and the arena in Geso. Bonhart didn't improve her fighting in any way.
@@ghostface4167 In the Rats storyline, the narrator even comments on how easily Ciri takes to killing and whether the Witchers knew what they were creating when they taught her how to do it efficiently. Bonhart 'improves' Ciri's fighting ability by fucking with her psyche, but the talent and skill was well in place at that point.
@@RRRRRRRRR33 Yeah, the ugly actors got to be as bad as the writing, they actively picked ugly actors, chubby women, race swapping beautiful white characters into the "inclusive" chubby versions of what the woke believes is "healthy". @@mrl2814 It's ironic to talk about this, considering how CW is the complete opposite on this regard, they hire people with super model looks, but they also can't act. So really, between ugly or beautiful people, if they can't act, if they are dressed like cosplayers... it's just pointless, waste of potential for nice universes... DC in general, the Witcher universe, etc..Luckily, somehow, someway, One Piece worked in liveaction. Extreme low budget just like these shows, but it worked... so this is not a lost cause it seems (to some extent, Sandman also worked... barely)

@@Kenny-o6i At the end of the day, it's impossible to judge if the authors are really involved or not, especially Oda who is still active and he is struggling with his health for years now. Netflix made a fuss about the Witcher author giving his "blessing" for this abomination, so who knows... depending on the quality, we assume they are really involved or not. One Piece and Sandman, the author were involved to some extent (Sandman especially, Gaiman altered things to be more "woke" by his own interpretation, so whatever, he is the author, he can do whatever the hell he wants), now talking about the Witcher, of course the author didn't cared... however, if you play the Witcher games without knowing the background of their production, you will assume the author was involved. Do you see my point? Just because the adaptation is faithful to the source material, that doesn't mean the authors were truly involved or not, but in the end, Oda, Gaiman and Sapkwoski, they all cashed in their pay checks and moved on with their lives, that's the only constant
Agreed, Ciri cutting of Riences fingers on the ice lake using her ice skates in Tower of the Swallow is one the MOST MEMORABLE scenes in the books. Why in the world would they do this???
I literally wanna cry everytime i think of this fucking scene, when they cut rience's head, because it mostly means there will bo no tarn mira or maybe poorer version of it. one of the greater moment in books ffs. i believe they will make this poor clone of ciri kill bonhart when they meet each other...
Rience is easily handled by a more experience mage like Yennefer (or Geralt who's signs are better than Rience's actual magic) but Yennefer isn't in most of the books where Rience is tracking Ciri (who is on her own) and Geralt is being a badass with his gang of all stars, making it very suspenseful. Now the show is relying too much on Leo Bonhart and Skellen being the only suspenseful villains involved with Ciri...But there goes the meeting of Bonhart, Skellen, and Rience...
I will be forever greatful for Netflix. Hadn’t read the books or played the game before watching this trainwreck. I’m now reading the books (and enjoying them) and the games are next on my list 😊
then you're a happy situation because I saw what a wreck was wheel of time, not inspiring me to read the books. also how did you miss the books, games and the original TV show? it's such a world wide phenomenon.
Truly sad, such potential lost for what? They had all of the world and story written for them and yet they still had to go and do their own thing. I dont know if it is the writiers ego or if som1 who is signing the checks that is pulling the strings, But either way its a tragedy to see.
there was never a potential. Turning books into movies/shows only works 1/10 of the time. this whole ass show looks fucking cheap, cringe, and not logical. Sapkowski got the bag, but lost a lot of respect. and fucking translating it to english is the 2nd worst thing
The potential was lost because of ego. That's all. You can't be incompetent enough to write a conversion from a brilliant book series to a show this badly by accident.
I wonder why they thought it was a good time to strike? "Let's (as a guild) make low quality work for years so people wonder why are we getting hired, paid or even why we exist to make a strike because we are oh so important and essential to society." I love writers, just apparently not those that do screenplay since there are far too few good ones in their ranks.
I hate that my introduction to The Witcher universe was through the show. I knew of the witcher games but they never interested me at the time. I saw Netflix's The Witcher and was like, "i love a good series and Henry Cavill is a great actor". Watched season 1 and thought it was good even with flaws. I like to think of season one is Jaskier retelling Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer's stories but making shit up to for "dramatic effect" seems like something that he would do. That's when I read the books and played The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and was amazed by the world. I was excited for season 2 and we all know how that went. I couldn't even finish the season. First time in my life that it happened. Theirs only a few things I actually liked from the show. • Henry Cavill giving a MILLION PERCENT as Geralt of Rivia • Joey Batey as Jaskier/Dandelion. I always liked him (not counting the stupid romance with FUCKING Radovid) • Geralt vs The Striga • The two song, "Toss A Coin To Your Witcher" and "Burn Butcher Burn". Those songs are still great. • The Butcher of Blaviken one shot fight scene. I wish the cast and crew the best because they are doing their jobs. I hope that the writers never get to work on another famous property again. Thank you for making this review. Sorry you had to suffer through this season for the review.
Though I do like Joey Batey's acting, I dislike what they did to Dandelion's character. I felt like he was being used for the comic relief trope (on top of this weird romance shit) throughout the whole series and to present some instagram/tik tok songs
@@MarcelloRodAC I do agree with you. I was alright with him being more of the comic relief. It would have been good for him to have his more serious moments to show that is more than comedy.
@@darkvortex2410 Yes, exactly. I guess I'm just allergic to the average comic relief, because it's always the same type of character. But concerning Dandelion there's such an importance to his serious side which is mostly missing and that just makes me sad
Ok, this is the first time I’ve really listened to anything plot wise about the Netflix series, so can someone please explain wtf the romance plot between radovid and dandelion is and why the writer’s thought that was a good idea
This is exactly how it was for me too. I never understood the hate for the show until I read the books. Theres still things I like about s1 though such as the different timelines u slowly piece together and I'll never not love the soundtrack. The music was actually amazing for s1, but for s2... Eww
I need to say 3 more things: 1. The Stregobor moment was so funny, I actually burst out laughing. As a plot device, it wasn't great, but the actor made it up with his performance. His whole-body expression when he yells the "you filthy, disgusting mongrels" line is a moment worthy of several memes. 2. I "love" how Francesca doesn't even think about wiping the blood off her face for one second during the battle. I know, shock and all, but there's no way it'd splatter in a clean way, precisely avoiding the eyes and so on, and even then, it'd drip down on her eyes from her forehead. The very first instinct (NOT EVEN A CONSCIOUS THOUGHT) when sth lands on your face, is to wipe it off. And when the former-mage lady gives her the motivational coaching, she also doesn't think about wiping the blood off Francesca's face, which would be probably the first thing I'd do if I wanted to make sb focus on sth else than the loss of the person the blood and guts belonged to. 3. The Vilgefortz fight was pretty alright, but how he made his stick bigger twice was very funny. If the show didn't suck, that'd make for a great scene mockery, where he just makes it bigger and bigger, going like "it's not even my final form!" and by the end fighting with a 10-15 meter pole.
I love the Stregobor moment during the big mage fight scene because you can see it as a call back to the lesser of two evils short story, except instead of choosing the lesser of two evils, he chooses the greater of two racisms
To me, Cahir is one of the most interesting characters from the books and it pains me to know that most fans don't know him because he's not in the games.
You thought so? I thought his motivation for finding ciri was …that he had a crush on her. I recall that being revealed in the last book. All of his motivation amounted to a crush, iirc
@@jejo63660 That's one way to put it, but I'm referring to Ciri's perspective here. The way she sees Cahir as this embodiment of all evil and it turns out he's just a young soldier doing his duty.

This whole "fire magic = bad and forbidden" is a trope entirely made up by Netflix. Only forbidden magic was necromancy. As for the fire, it had nothing to do with acttual fire final effects, but with the drawing from fire energy. The elemental veins were described meticulopusly in Blood of Elves during Yennefer teachings. They were meant to teach Ciri, but also accoplished exposition for the audience, about magic system in this world. In fact, Triss Merigold in the books were known as very talented magician with fire final effect magic and she surely showed this in the Battle of Sodden . But no. In this shit nobody can be talented who is not Yennefer, nobody could be right who is not Yennefer and Yennefer takes away whole Triss agency (and couple of other characters as well). But instead of completely scrapping those characetrs they still put them in the show. And - surprise - they got nothing to do.

Part of me thinks that due to the shows failures, Liam Hemsworth might not even get the chance to play as Geralt in season 4 and beyond. The show is burning it's own foundations at a rapid and exponential pace
Netflix has already signed off for at least 6 seasons to tell the first part of the books. After that they'll see. But give it a chance. Liam could be good although I've never seen him in anything good before. But it now gets interesting because it's girl boss mode with Yennifer leading the mages and Ciri becoming all powerful. I think the best way to bring Liam in is Geralt dies than Ciri uses her true power for the first time to extract Geralt from an alternate universe to help her.
@@jonfreeman9682 I'm not worried about Liam, I'm worried about how poor of an adaptation the series has been. It's rather infamous. That's likely to continue and it kinda hurts to see a series you love be annihilated by the writers and showrunners ego's

Netflix isn't going to shill out the budget for a season 4 when it's lost so much money on season 3. There's a ratings and viewership clause in the contract with the showrunners. If it is not met Netflix can terminate at any point they see fit. This might come as a surprise to you, but a 60% drop off in viewership is the definition of that.
@@jonfreeman9682 And before you go there, filming being put to a halt has nothing to do with the writers strike. Again, this might be shocking to you. They stated the scripts were already finished and filming would begin as soon as season 3 airs, or shortly before. That is literally what the showrunners are on record saying. Mind you at the time of this interview, the writers strike was already in place. So none of the writers who are working on the Witcher are involved in the strike. Obviously. Critical thinking is a hard thing to just learn, I get it. I wouldn't expect somebody who uses "Girl boss mode" in a sentence to have an abundance of common sense.

The idea you called the dumbest possible option to introduce Liam as the Witcher sounds perfectly in-line with previous decisions made by the writers. I'm not even kidding, I genuinely believe they would do something similar. Great video as always though Neon!
Stregebor is hilarious because he's so happy to kill elves by tapping into dangerous fire magic and... he maybe gets one elf? It's just so meaningless. Rience dying is just so bizarre. If Geralt had killed him earlier in the season, then the only thing that would have changed is that the "friends" of Geralt that he killed would have just lived. Cahir suddenly being remorseful was absolutely hilarious. And him somehow being relevant against the charging Scoia'tael had me laughing at the screen. Fringilla and Frencesca? Fair. Yennefer and "The Lodge" was so boring. And them talking about how they destroyed their home when it was really just one room and some furniture got knocked over. This show does did its best to make so many characters so uninteresting.

@RickJoystickI think most of the casting was nailed, and the performance are pretty good as well. But that can only go so far with Netflix show runners. Although, this may seem rude of me but idc, I think the sorceresses casting was awful. I get that it’s rude to deny actresses roles because they aren’t attractive enough, but they have literally shown in the show that sorceresses can alter their appearance and use their appearance to manipulate people. It’s a plot point they have highlighted, and yet it seems they’ve forgotten about it completely. However, this is such a small issue compared to the rest of the show so I really couldn’t give a shit cos I ain’t watching after Henry left
Can’t wait for them to reveal Geralt is a Time Lord and regenerates into Liam Hemsworth. Hell, maybe Cavil isn’t even the first one! Lots of fantastic ideas for these writers to play with!

If I'm being completely and totally honest... I would actually prefer that over the way the show has been going so far. Like, if you're fully committed to going off the rails, at least go off wildly and in a crazy fun direction, I would absolutely take that over this exercise in misery.
The "people showing up out of nowhere when they need to" thing makes sense if everyone has waypoints like in the video games, so that's what i choose to believe
Thank you for reviewing this, because I literally rather watch your reviews of Netflix now than watch the show itself lol. Also, omg, I can't wait for your KCD videos! :D
Was hoping you would mention in the scene where Geralt kills Rience he literally teleports. If you look at all the shots leading up to his death Geralt is nowhere to be found, then half a second later he is directly behind Rience lmao
Gerald was all across the map throughout the series, with zero regard for geographical distance. When Ciri ran away, Gerald just showed up out of nowhere, and saved her from the wild hunt
I find it interesting that you sound so sure there will actually be more of this show, maybe even a lot. I'd give it like a 50/50 if we even get one more season
While the last few episodes suck, I really enjoyed MyAnna Buring as Tissaia. There's only so much she can do with the script and writing but she carried quite a lot of her scenes and has a nice gravitas as her too.
I feel that Yennefer is being portrayed as more interested in sorceresses and the lodge than Ciri and where she is and what happened to her after entering the tower. In the books after escaping the lodge Yennefer set out to instigate and find Ciri as her primary motive and those who know, know where that lead her, but Netflix will probably just give her both motivations or something over the top. Ciri's motivations developed, at one point feeling betrayed and abandoned because so much time had passed and neither Geralt or Yennefer had found her yet. Then Ciri started getting visions of both Yennefer and Geralt in trouble and felt that she had to save them and set off to do so, but there's not set up for it and if any of it even happens it will no doubt be a just because moment.
Well, this show literally gave Yen, Geralt, and Ciri beach-side good-bye scene-ridiculous and antithetical. They don't even comprehend the dynamics of the core trio.
I actually really liked the first season. It followed the book of short stories fairly well while also kinda keeping it different to make things interesting. That’s how I enjoy movies based on books; as long as they keep to the original story as best they can, I’m happy. But then season 2 came along and Wtfff
I liked season 1 as well, thought it had some charm and you could easily build upon it. That being said, there were already some red flags about the direction of the show - Cahir, Fringilla and the really weird Brokilon Ciri plotline. Geralt's stories were also watered down, but it wasn't that bad. And then season 2 turned Eskel into a fucking tree
It's astonishing how the showrunners and creators ruined the show with absolute ego and hubris, they took Cavill who was the best part of the show and alienated him, shredded book materials, plastered diversity all over the show, and now have the gall to blame fans as if this is on anyone but them
They also blamed Cavill after he left. Lauren Hissrich said he was nitpicking and annoying, talking badly behind his back like the absolute trash person she is. She is a narcissist who needs to get fired by Netflix.
Well showrunner Lauren was just trying to update it for a modern audience to expand the fanbase with a little girl boss that's all. Overall the story is still true to the source material and follows the book's plot. Believe it or not there's a book dedicated to Ciri lost in the desert which is supposed to be like Jesus going thru some kinda trial to become all powerful.
@@jonfreeman9682 while the book does have Ciri in the desert, the netflix show is not at all true to the source material. please reread these books before commenting

I saw enough in Season 2 to know that I absolutely had no desire to watch anymore of this show, and it sounds like I was right. Thanks for watching it for me and confirming. Your videos are better written and edited than that miserable excuse for a television show could ever hope to emulate.

Regarding Stregobor, you see him explode himself and a bunch of elves a few scenes after his fire-threat scene. I don't remember why the elf queen survived though, probably a magic barrier or a big log.
I wonder. Will we ever get an opportunity to see the Witcher books respectfully adapted for a TV show in the future? It really upsets me deeply so much potential is criminally wasted.
Not for a long time if ever. Think back to the terrible TV and Film adaptations of the past like Percy Jackson, Golden Compass, and Eragon never got another go. Those that did like Dune took almost 40 years before the memory of the original failure was distant enough for a new adaptation to get a green light.
@@The_LibationistThe Golden Compass did get a new show - notably better than the movie. Eragon isnt a great book anyway. Its basically Starwars in a fantasy setting.
Doubtful. CDPR owns pretty much all the rights, and Netflix would own the rights for a TV show, so I don't think there's any chance, really. Unless someone comes up to both parties with entire bags full of money.
How the hell is Ciri raising that huge stone? That thing would weigh more than Freya Allan in real life, but she is throwing it around like its styrofoam (which it probably is). If the writers didnt want to read the Witcher books, the least they could have done is read a physics textbook.
I never saw this season and I'm glad I didn't. Djisktra is legit one of my favourite characters in witcher 3, thought he was an excellently realised "grey" character plus spymaster/mob boss, but the very last thing he would try and do is be so stupid as to try and kill Geralt in straight up single combat lol. I can imagine Cavill knowing this and being very sad, and reluctant to shoot, but giving it his best knowing full well how trash this was.
Dijkstra is also my favorite character in W3 buuut that part: "the very last thing he would try and do is be so stupid as to try and kill Geralt in straight up single combat" is kind of what happens in the game during "Reason of State" and fans criticize that A LOT.
@EleiyaUmei that's one of the ways it can go down if you choose that path. I happened not to so he never did that for me and its not something I've seen personally. I get the feeling that he must be pretty desperate during that time to be that dumb. it's been a long time since I've played though tbh. might have to revisit if my back log ever gets under control lol
@@EleiyaUmei That is indeed one of the dumbest things that happens in the game and it was dragged hard for it. Everything else he has done up to that point makes perfect sense, and then he pisses it away for no reason in the dumbest ploy possible.
These videos are how I learn about the show without watching! I “watched” the first two season (I fast forwarded so much that I disinherited both in under 6 hours), and I really enjoyed it (because I fast forwarded so much). I chose not to watch season 3, and I now no longer have Netflix, so this and YT shorts are how I get the few scenes I would have enjoyed.
My biggest pet peeve of the desert episode was this: THERE SHOULDN'T BE AN ECHO! WITH SO MUCH SAND THE YELLS WOULD SOUND INCREDIBLY DEAD, WHICH WOULD FEEL EVEN MORE ISOLATING!

Come on, now, let's not set impossible standards here! That would require the creators of the show to maybe visit a location. Or ask someone who ever was in a desert how does it sound. Or googling "sound in the desert".
Which is funny because Fringilla and Cahir only interact in the books once Geralt and his hanse are in Toussaint, and they only throw verbal jabs at eachother.

2:55 it is also important to note that the captured mages should've been in a much more bloody state and that Philippa's role in it was vital. The violence was already getting out of hand, and a couple of deaths were already taking place, showing how poorly Philippa and Dijkstra planned this, only for power. It makes it even more tragic, because the whole situation weakened the mages and they could've had more chances to confront the ensuing battle 3:15 Tissaia's suicide comes across as much less tragic and significant now that we don't really understand the politics of the continent. Her death was supposed to be the biggest symbol of the continent's old regimes being obliterated and to a point of no return. It should've been a direct consequence of the trauma she experienced after setting them free, and not just a stupid "toxic lover" plot point (which makes it even more stupid, because she was standing for neutrality and not taking the side of her lover).
The way they portray elves in the show I would absolutely not be surprised to learn the writers accidentally played Dragon age not the witcher and got the scoia'tael mixed up with the Dalish. In Dragon age the Dalish are a genuine threat to even soldiers. While the scoia'tael are about as much threat as a crazed hobo would be to a fully armed green beret.
I haven’t read the books. Everyone kept complaining that the show isn’t following the source material. But nobody every tells us in what ways. Until now. Thank you…I really appreciate learnt how this is happening. The source material certainly sounds far better than what we got.
If you legit think this is the first time anyone has talked about why the books are superior, I refuse to believe you've read any complaints at all. It's been ongoing since s1
100% agree. I remember yelling at my TV: why are they not performing magic, they're wizzards?! Also, the whole episode in Aritusa was so weird. I still don't know where Fringilla suddenly came from, because she did not arrive with the scoia'tael, right?
I agree with Neon in that the Geralt vs Vilgefortz fight was awesome and in my mind (while not as good as the book fight) the best thing in the whole season.
nah games do it fairly well, not the best job but i think its alright (not counting ROS tho lmao). honestly to me djikstra is the worst casting in the entire show with fringilla, keira and rita being close behind, because in their cases you COULD argue, that "the skin colour is not specified blah blah blah" but djikstra is literally written as a genius looking like a dumb gorilla. and when i saw him in the show i thought he was visimir lol
Djikstra was written amazingly well in the Witcher 3. His personality and intelligence was intact up until reasons of state. That questline ruined everything about Djikstra.
As a player of the first and third game, I can say I never picked up on him being a super-intelligent spymaster or anything like that. He was just a crime boss as far as I knew
Since the writers decided to basically do whatever they wanted, I really thought they were going to utilize Geralt's death in the books to explain the transition from Cavill to Hemsworth, just done differently, where Ciri would have witnessed Geralt's death and cause her to have a freak episode like she did in the first season (with her scream and all that) and not only causes her to teleport to the desert but causes Geralt to teleport to a different dimension where everything about him as changed except his personality and goals, potentially reviving him and curing his wounds as he shifts dimensions, and if Yennefer were there for it, maybe she could have teleported somewhere else and they could finally give her the big gorgeous hair she deserves, so in a way, not only did Geralt change but so did Yennefer, but just less drastic.
The book has an idea of multiverse and there are other versions of Geralt, Ciri and Yen, etc, so if they really wanted they could play around with that really...
@@czechowa The books' idea of a multiverse isn't the same as a modern "Marvel-style" multiverse. The Witcher takes place in one universe with a multitude of different worlds plus some time travel shenanigans. There are no different versions of Geralt, Ciri, Yennefer, etc. However, I seriosuly doubt Netflix understands this, so it's not out of the question that they would try to explain Geralt's change of appearance this way.
@@filipkyselica8041 I wouldn't want them to swap out Geralt for "Geralt" if that makes sense - definitely would prefer it if they just explained that while plane shifting he got seriously morphed lol
@filipkyselica8041: THIS!!!! There aren’t different versions of Geralt out there, so idk what the hell they’re taking about saying Liam’s geralt is gonna be a different Geralt. The books never went into multi-verses, only the idea of different worlds. Idk I just hate it all together lol
@@nemofish3504 they should probably just stick to not explaining it at all, we all know that Cavill left, so it's not like we need an explanation on why Geralt looks different, they can just treat it as he IS Geralt and that's it, Ciri and Yennefer don't have to be like "Oh wow Geralt, what a different face you have now." it doesn't even really need to be addressed.
The train wreck the series has become rests firmly upon the shoulders of the Producer and Executive producers, they where supposed to manage this and manage the writers, they failed in their job and lost Netflix money in the process, what is crazy is in the entertainment industry, allowing a franchise to fail under your watch, uncurs no responsibility and no negative outcome, there is no accountability for losing Netflix money, this is insane in any business, imagine failing in your job and instead of being fired, you get moved to another great project, absolutely crazy.

Recently I was listening to polish audiobook of The Last Wish story with my husband, we were so focused on this because not only it was interesting but also well written and read. Afterwards I asked my husband if he remembers it from Witcher serier on Netflix. He asked: this story was presented in the series? Yeah, he was in shock that such passionate story can be so flat and uninteresting on Netflix that we forget about it when we switch to another film on the platform. Such a shame
Imagine having a successful book series handed to you with every single detail figured out and a huge fan base on a golden platter and f****** it up so badly.
Happens when you dont give an f about the original lore and just laugh about it. And you dont care about the original fanbase either.
It's because they disliked the original and wanted to "improve" it. They thought that it was too European, too Polish, too male, too Geralt-centric.
they seem to be doing this to quite a few stories lately, it's extremely puzzling to me!

Also ciri's wig bothered me the whole season. she had the same braid for essentially the entire season and it just looked so fake

Bonhart "had" her for few weeks at best, and only 3 times when she picked a sword in that time was their 1st meeting (where she held her own against one of the most dangerous people in that books, at least in terms of sword fighting), short "sparing" at Etchevery, and the arena in Geso. there was never a potential. Turning books into movies/shows only works 1/10 of the time. this whole ass show looks fucking cheap, cringe, and not logical. Sapkowski got the bag, but lost a lot of respect. and fucking translating it to english is the 2nd worst thing
I was reading the whole comment thoroughly until I saw that you wrote "som1" 😂 I already forgot what the comment was about, thats crazy
• Henry Cavill giving a MILLION PERCENT as Geralt of Rivia
• Joey Batey as Jaskier/Dandelion. I always liked him (not counting the stupid romance with FUCKING Radovid)
• Geralt vs The Striga
• The two song, "Toss A Coin To Your Witcher" and "Burn Butcher Burn".
Eww
An old man trying to fight a Witcher with a dagger is the most hilarious thing i've seen.
I need to say 3 more things:
I don't get why he waited till the last minute to come out.. seemed dumb

To me, Cahir is one of the most interesting characters from the books and it pains me to know that most fans don't know him because he's not in the games.
You thought so? I thought his motivation for finding ciri was
…that he had a crush on her.

And - surprise - they got nothing to do.
dont Geralt use fire spells in the games aswell?
@@panzerschwan7902 Sign Igni is described in the books as well. Games are not cannon. They changed a lot of the source material (they destroyed Dandelion as did Netflix) and the story is entirely fanfic (while world has been slavicised)

I'm gonna leave a like and a comment just out of respect for the pain you put yourself through for us.
@@jonfreeman9682 ???
@@jonfreeman9682 100% you're Lauren Hissrich or something. Actually delusional. Netflix is cancelling the show. It doesn't matter if they signed off for 6 seasons or not. They already halted production outright and won't allow filming. (Despite the scripts being done) They were literally about to start filming, then cancelled it lmaoo. The show is done.
I want to thank the producer of the Witcher I always had sleep problems before but after watching the final season I always put it on before bed time it gets me to sleep after 5 mins of watch time, greatly appreciated it cured my insomnia please don't take it off Netflix I would no longer have my medication.

Yennefer and "The Lodge" was so boring. And them talking about how they destroyed their home when it was really just one room and some furniture got knocked over.

To see what became of Milva breaks my heart. She's my favorite female character from the books.
The books have tons of good well written strong female characters. Quite rare for a fantasy series written in the 90s.
The show wouldn’t have needed to emphasize that if they stuck to to the books
@@rasmusliedberg yeah, The Witcher would be one of the easiest Books to make a series out of for ''modern audiences'' Because it already comes with all the strong female characters, racial themes, gay relationships and doesn't need to be hacked and butchered. She is supposed to be a caring person and that's where her brutal honesty comes from, as a virtue and not as meaningless sass. Her character has a lot of subtleties. Oh my god, I didn’t even think of that.
They’re definitely going to do that and it will be awful and insensitive. A heart wrenching story about sexual assault and Stockholm syndrome will be turned into a LGBTQ+ positive thing.

They also blamed Cavill after he left. Lauren Hissrich said he was nitpicking and annoying, talking badly behind his back like the absolute trash person she is. She is a narcissist who needs to get fired by Netflix.

In Dragon age the Dalish are a genuine threat to even soldiers. While the scoia'tael are about as much threat as a crazed hobo would be to a fully armed green beret.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who caught Streg using his racism to fuel his fire magic like wtf
"Evil racist white guy" is a necessity in 2023.
I BEEN WAITIN A LOOOONG TIME FOR THIS!
"I don't care so let's just keep it that way"
This one sentence 3/4 through the video summed up the entire series for me. Well done.
I just happen to have finished all the books yesterday. I could spoil every detail in the books without it spoiling anything in the show.
I was out of Season 2. I didn't think it could get worse. I guess I have no imagination.
The Witcher series is a pure definition of ordering a pie and finding it has no filling
I watched the first 15min of this season and went back to scroll TikTok. Thank you for this!
Very surprised/happy to see such a large law firm support a smaller channel. Big props to Morg&Morg.
Dijkstra is a character which I feel both the game and TV series did wrong and failed to capture him as a mastermind and a great spymaster.
At least until the Reasons of State quest in the game.
nah games do it fairly well, not the best job but i think its alright (not counting ROS tho lmao). honestly to me djikstra is the worst casting in the entire show with fringilla, keira and rita being close behind, because in their cases you COULD argue, that "the skin colour is not specified blah blah blah" but djikstra is literally written as a genius looking like a dumb gorilla. and when i saw him in the show i thought he was visimir lol
Djikstra was written amazingly well in the Witcher 3. His personality and intelligence was intact up until reasons of state. That questline ruined everything about Djikstra.
As a player of the first and third game, I can say I never picked up on him being a super-intelligent spymaster or anything like that. He was just a crime boss as far as I knew
in the games he is a mastermind...
Netflix witcher just made me realize the Witcher _really_ shouldn't be a live action TV show, it should be a animated series.
Anyone wonder how Geralt recovered from his broken lower back much faster than his broken leg?
Somehow they continue to go lower than my lowest expectations.
I really appreciate these synopsis videos you've been doing. I tapped out after season 1, and it's nice to see how much they're butchering this IP without actually having to watch it myself. Thank you for this lol.
Been here since your early witcher 3 discovery videos. Congrats on all the success you've had and the sponsors.
Wait till you get to Geralt and Ciri's part, you will know how badly they screwed up.
Damn it, watching this 4 months late after watching your first part, waiting for it, but forgetting about this and what S3 was like, lol.
They really massacred my boi Cahir and my girl Milva
