      The problem with “Hardcore” death match wrestling is when it came here from Japan we didn’t do it right. The matches between guys like Funk and Foley from Japan are only considered the best Bc Japan loves long form story telling in wrestling. In America it’s not as special.

    He's completely right. I enjoy violent death matches myself but only if they're used to settle an intense rivalry in front of a large audience. It's got to mean something and be worth it for everyone involved especially the wrestlers.

    Those violent matches should be a once in a while type thing. When 2 guys finish a rivalry. Not every single match though. That is way too much. ECW wasn't all about violence. It was the 'us against them' atmosphere that made it great. ECW had great wrestling too.

    • @craigstrachan
      @craigstrachan 3 роки тому +16

      Agreed . But for some people it was more known for the blood n'guts aspect as that was part of what got them noticed . The blood feud with AXL and Ian Rotten is part of how i found out about them and their bloody matches culminating in their Taipei Death Match . Bloody to say the least .

      even Heyman who would go too far at times had restraint like after the barbwire match with Terry Funk and Sabu he went never again and didn’t book a match like that again for every ECW bloodbath I’ll show you an ECW technical match IWA mid south and CZW knew the notes but they never knew the music as to why ECW was successful

    • @craigstrachan
      @craigstrachan 3 роки тому +12

      @@pauliewalnuts829 ECW gave you a little bit of everything from hardcore blood n'guts to technical catch as catch can style to high flying lucha libre . It was the blood n 'guts that got the magazine covers when they originallly started and they evolved as time went on . Heyman has said himself that if ECW had stayed in business they would have gone similar to what ROH has . The hardcore style is now more on the indy scene and in Japan which i am a fan of from companies like FMW, W*ING , BJW .IWA Japan but there they also wrestle where companies like CZW .XPW IWA Deep South , GCW it's more a case of how much barbed wire of how many lighttubes can be used and it's blood for the sake of blood .

    I was a fan of the original ECW, and there were a lot of very talented guys that passed through that decrepit shit hole of a bingo hall in South Philadelphia during the 1990s. Mick Foley, Rob Van Dam, Sabu, and the late, legendary Terry Funk are just a few of the guys I can think of. A lot of these guys weren't great athletes, but they truly loved the wrestling business and were absolutely capable of having quality matches with the "hardcore" stuff mixed in.
    Other than that, I agree that most of the "hardcore" promotions are little more than glorified backyard wrestling, where you can make a quick $25 or $50 to get hit in the head with light tubes for 10 minutes every other Saturday night.
