The problem with “Hardcore” death match wrestling is when it came here from Japan we didn’t do it right. The matches between guys like Funk and Foley from Japan are only considered the best Bc Japan loves long form story telling in wrestling. In America it’s not as special.
I agree 100%, but I must note that ECW that did it right. ECW legitimately had some of the best in ring workers of all time with the hardcore style as the cherry on top.

Those violent matches should be a once in a while type thing. When 2 guys finish a rivalry. Not every single match though. That is way too much. ECW wasn't all about violence. It was the 'us against them' atmosphere that made it great. ECW had great wrestling too.

The hardcore style is now more on the indy scene and in Japan which i am a fan of from companies like FMW, W*ING , BJW .IWA Japan but there they also wrestle where companies like CZW .XPW IWA Deep South , GCW it's more a case of how much barbed wire of how many lighttubes can be used and it's blood for the sake of blood .

I was a fan of the original ECW, and there were a lot of very talented guys that passed through that decrepit shit hole of a bingo hall in South Philadelphia during the 1990s. Mick Foley, Rob Van Dam, Sabu, and the late, legendary Terry Funk are just a few of the guys I can think of. A lot of these guys weren't great athletes, but they truly loved the wrestling business and were absolutely capable of having quality matches with the "hardcore" stuff mixed in. Other than that, I agree that most of the "hardcore" promotions are little more than glorified backyard wrestling, where you can make a quick $25 or $50 to get hit in the head with light tubes for 10 minutes every other Saturday night.
Re watching Ecw you quickly realise the talented wrestlers were working below talentless hacks like the sandman, balls mahoney or Tommy dreamer, it’s quite sad in retrospect knowing the shelf life of that would be dead before their company died with ring of honor filling the void that more ecw fans actually cared about
