Spandau Ballet are one of Britain’s great iconic bands having sold over 25 million records, scored numerous multi-platinum albums and amassed 23 hit singles across the globe since their humble beginnings as a group of friends with dreams of stardom in the late 1970s. It wasn’t long before they became fully-fledged members of the iconic Blitz Club scene and established themselves as one of the super-groups of the 80s.

I love this song so much.Tony Hadley one of the best voices in the 80's.
The memories on this one are so strong it hurts. I was just a kid back then when it came out. 1984 was THE year of the 80s and the happiest time of my life. Now I wonder what happened to all those friends I left behind in time. This song is for you. A celebration of all those possibilities we once were even if things didn't turn out right.

I don't quite know why I feel them but they are there and are so strong it brings tears to the eyes. I think it's because each time I watch that video it takes me back to 1984 when things were so different. Perhaps it's like a little time machine taking me back to a place I still wish I was in. I was fourteen, still at school, reading Smash Hits and No 1 and devouring all those mags had to offer then talking about it the next day. I never thought that 36 years later I would be writing something as emotional about this song but yet here I am. Also, it was the very first 7" single I bought with my own money, too.

Wow brilliant tune , I was 14 in 1984 , even though I was really young then I can't say I was happier, I'm 53 now and quite happy , for me it's not looking back and saying oh I wish I was back there , embrace life and accept we're older and you'll find peace

This was filmed in my classroom at Godwin jr school in Dagenham.
We were 4th years at the time but the used the 2nd year for the cast.
Needless to say that we were all gutted.

Remembering my teenage years--remembering my friends and sometimes wondering if they ever remember me--remember that Halloween party in 1984 in my first year of college when I thought I was in top of the world---wondering why the 80's said goodbye to us and left us with nothing but memories---thinking of those good times that will never come back, and there is nothing I can do about it---Smiling because I know sometimes you all feel the same and we all know that the 80's rocked!!!!!

I adore Tony Hadley's face in this video, especially his eyes- they are so incredibly beautiful, wonderful and spectacular. Tony here looks in such a mysterious way. Everytime when I'm watching this clip, I'm wondering what about he was thinking, during making it. Besides I really love this black and white picture, it's magical and sentimental.🌌💖

The memories of being 10 years old and seeing your older sister and her friends being in love with the members of these pop groups, whilst you had a crush on your sisters friends and wanted them to be in love with you, so you did your best to try and look like these grown men lol. These 80's songs were just so brilliant and too think life was so good then and humanity actually existed amongst us all. We were too busy living and enjoying life rather than hurting and hating each other the way we do these days. I saw them in Sydney, it would've been 2 years ago now I think. they sound exactly the same on the radio, a true band, not some manufactured boy band. These guys can really perform. Tears for Fears fronted for them. they too sounded the same. again real bands. 80s were full of real bands. I miss the 80s. I was in year 5 when this song came out.
The early 1980s and the British bands then were the best.Beats anything going on in the culture now....If I could jump into a machine and go back to being in my body then,would do it in a second.

in the 80's during my college years, female population in my university were divided between Simon Lebon (Duran Duran) and Tony Hadley (Spandau Ballet). Debating on their Music and who's handsome between the two. It is like Manchester United vs Liverpool supporters fighting for their clubs
I'm glad that where I was in the 1980s, most of the people I knew did not really fall in the media-generated battle between bands. Most of us listened to and loved the music of bands like Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Culture Club, The Cure, New Order, and Depeche Mode in equal measures.
Each of those bands just happened to fall in the same sonic spectrum, but their individual music inevitably has personalities of their own.

I was born in the early 90s but the 80s were the best with the songs Spandau Ballet made back then. This song brought tears of joy in my eyes, reminiscing about the joyful feeling of that time even though I was born in the following decade.
Damn ... the 80's. Now THOSE were GREAT and MEMORABLE music by highly talented musicians, with great lyrics; none of the high - tech, easy - to - make songs that we have of today. (There was even a "Spandau Ballet vs. Duran Duran" program here in the Philippines then; can you believe it? Btw, Spandau won. ;))

Such a bittersweet song for me. I was in high school when I first heard this song, and I had a lot of memories with it. I was bullied a lot, but songs like this got me through it all. Spandau Ballet, Johnny Hates Jazz, Howard Jones, The Bolshoi, and dozens more. They all got me through really tough times.

"She was only eighteen summers long" was written on my 18th birthday cake, back when "cake design" at the most consisted in writing "happy birthday (insert your name here)" with chocolate on a cake.. I grew up with this group, learnt english with their songs, went to my first concert (november 10th 1986), visited a foreign country (UK) for the first time, met a celebrity for the first time (them, of course). This song is every bit as beautiful to me as it was 30 years ago. Thank you for posting it.

What a beautiful years the 80's. I did the same..concert (unforgettable!!)on Nov. 19 1986 with my first love and yesss I met one of them on a USA-UK flight. It was fantastic!. But my really first time was on July 1985 at Live Aid in London...yessss I was there. Ciao Silvia
