Routinely since about 7th or 8th grade, I have listened to this towards the end of may, or june. To me this is the end of school, and now I am a senior in High School, so this song symbolizes my high school experience in a nut shell. I had a really spectacular time in High School, so this song carries so many good memories with it. I am on a mission to collect all of the other songs that had a big impact on me in high school and put it into a playlist. Wish me luck!
My dad told me one day while we were driving somewhere for breakfast. He played this song. He said.. "Mia.The day I die.. I want you to play this song for me.. It would be something amazing for you to do for me. Like paying respects." I cried. And said "Ofc dad. I'd love too." Just so you know.. my dad's back is always hurting. He's always in pain physically.Thinking about him hurting makes me incredibly sad. But I'm glad to do this for him when he does pass away.

@@jacobperez8921 😂😂don't say that bud! Every generation has it's iconic sounds. The benefit is that you can rewind over past decades to reflect on the sounds that you like.
Summer 1985. I was 16. I used to go to a riverside spot close to my home, in Italy, together with some friends of mine. Swimming, joking, laughing: the usual youngsters’ stuff. One day a new guy arrives with a sort of “ghetto blaster” on his shoulders. He puts it down and starts playing “Don’t you”. One time, two times, three times … He didn’t need to rewind the tape: the whole cassette was recorded with that song, just that song. Eventually, I approached him and asked: “Who the fuck are you? And who the fuck are they?” “Hi”, he replied, “I am Steven; and they are Simple Minds; they are amazing: aren’t they?” To me, it was the beginning of a new beginning. In a matter of weeks I got hold of all the previous Minds’ LPs and I soon realised that actually I knew many of the songs included in those records: I just didn’t know they were from a Scottish band called Simple Minds! I started gathering information about the band members and their background. Not an easy task at that time. No Internet, no Google, no Wikipedia. Nothing. Just a few music magazines and the word of mouth. But the snowball had started rolling down and couldn’t be stopped anymore. From the musical side my interest quickly extended to anything somehow related to Jim & Co. and their origins: Glasgow and Celtic; Scotland and Ireland; the local history and culture; the religious and political issues; the idioms and customs; and so on and so forth. To cut a long story short, now, almost 40 years later, my house is full of books, records and movies about Britain and Ireland; I have been to Scotland countless times, including a couple of “pilgrimages” to Lochearnhead; and I have come to see Simple Minds in a collection of venues so diverse to include places like Pesaro and Stoke-on-Trent (with all due respect…). Simple Minds, directly or indirectly, have been a huge and exciting part of my world since that summertime afternoon. Thanks Jim. Thanks Charlie. Thanks everybody at Simple Minds. You have been the soundtrack of my life; and much, much more.
lmao i wonder why are kids now obsessed with this "wrong generation" stuff, lmao you wouldn't even have the technology you cherished back then and stop thinking living in this time is a fucking curse or something.
Yes, I am visiting the video on Baby New Year's birthday. Still a killer song. If you want to hear a great cover, look up the (King CharlesIII) Coronation Concert right here on You tube. Solo singer ( Zak Abel, with a piano ( Aexis Ffrench) accompanyment. It is amazing.
Jose Carranza I am a retired Nurse. I singback up in a band. We do it more for fun. Our channel is DreamBook. I have a link to my channel. Some of our songs are on my playlist. We just have fun. 😊
What a voice! He's still got it too; just saw them on one of the late shows that I rarely watch because too hateful, but sometimes they have some great talent on. The 80s...good time for great bands. Romance song I guess. But now seeing how Simple Minds has grown older yet still elicits such emotion it reminds me of my son who passed in 2023--- I will never forget about you my precious son Steve. So until we meet again.
EXACTLY! Fuckin' everyone's like "whaaa whaa I was born in the wrong generation music is dead" Yeah, pop today may not be the best, but music is better than it ever has been. You can so easily listen to whatever song you want- you don't have to hope it comes on the radio or buy an album for it. And pop songs back then must've been annoying for people back then. There's always people who are like, "nyeh, my generation's music bad. Older music good." Yeah I don't know how to end this rant Drink water and recycle.
I'd be honored if some fans of classic 80s anthems would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of EYE OF THE TIGER by Survivor, IS THIS LOVE by Whitesnake, and AGAINST ALL ODDS by Phil Collins on my YT channel in tribute to the era of legendary power ballads. What are you talking about? No one will appreciate listening to the radio until your favourite song came on and hitting record. We made mix tapes for our friends, it was fun. We also had things like record shops which sold CDs, tapes and records. We had just as much access to music as today just in a different format. I’m not that old either. The 80s were the best generation for real music with heart.

Diane Michelle 1977 to 2004 This was my sister's favorite song and movie. At least once a month she would watch the Breakfast Club and six VCRs later . She always consider herself a brain but more importantly she was proud to be a basket case . She hated the word princess and hated to be called one. Even though she dated jocks she had more fun with criminals. She passed away in 2004. She had a bad heart and I didn't even get a chance to say goodbye. This was three weeks before my birthday. She was 27. I wanted to play this song at her funeral unfortunately my mother didn't think it was appropriate. Days before the funeral I found her favorite John Lennon sunglasses . After the funeral everyone went their separate ways . I got into my truck put on the glasses and played this song on the way to a bar to meet her two best friends. My tribute to my older sister. Diane Michelle I've never posted anything on social media before. This was something I cared with me for a very long time. Thank you all for taking the time to read this. The one thing that really sucked about growing up in the 80's was not realizing how awesome they were when you were there. To quote Andy Bernard from "The Office" ... “I wish there was a way to know you're in the good old days before you've actually left them.”
Whenever i hear this, i remember those five people i never met in my life, but i remember them. The Criminal, the jock, the princess, the basket case, the nerd. Never gonna forget about them.
Dear Mr. Vernon, we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. What we did *was* wrong. But we think you're crazy to make us write an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us... In the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain... ...an athlete... ... a basket case... ...a princess... ...and a criminal... Does that answer your question? Sincerely yours, the Breakfast Club.
Yeah. How you hear your voice is different form how other people hear it. No joke. Go make a quick recording of your voice and play it back. Sounds entirely different from how you hear yourself. Is part of why singers will have in-ear monitors while performing so they can adjust their tone to that of what's actually coming out and not just what they think they're hearing.

There's no way it could be remade authentically today because that kind of scenario no longer exists. There's no believable characters like Judd Nelson's anymore; they would all be Anthony Michael Halls and Ally Sheedys, and they'd be on their phones texting each other three feet away. There's simply no contemporary comparison that would be as interesting or engaging.

Wish me luck!
that's low-key kinda creepy because I'm doing the same thing with my playlist but instead I'm using more 80's-90's music

I agree.
January 2025... In here again! What music we grew with....ain't nothin' like it today. We've known living and loving right!
Damn that’s deep
i hope he lives to see you grow and i hope he will recover asap.
Very moving story.
Gee, I hope that his back pain isn't the reason for his demise. The way this sounds, it makes one believe that he's on his death bed.
You know, one of the best things about being in my 50's now is that I lived my teenage years in the 80's..........Priceless and I wouldn't change them for the world!

And who the fuck are they?” “Hi”, he replied, “I am Steven; and they are Simple Minds; they are amazing: aren’t they?”
To me, it was the beginning of a new beginning.
Even though I’m 17..this song feels nostalgic. I wish I lived in the 80s.

Older music good."
Yeah
I don't know how to end this rant
Drink water and recycle.
Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Thanks & peace.
@@newspider5693 honestly this is the exact point i was trying to make music is just tuned sounds that only humans like. telling someone that their music taste sucks is like telling them their favorite color sucks. its stupid and pointless and just like all art its completely subjective.

This was my sister's favorite song and movie.

@@almighty5839 not just high school, life in general was fun and especially for young people. We didn't have or need Apps to meet people or socialise, we were always out and about, having a good time. People wouldn't get their knickers in a twist about things, so laid back...
Deaf fella is back. Thanks for the closed caption upon this amazing music. ^^

LookUpToTheStars....you are right..time will remember this song...Im sure
Even though I was not born in the 80s, I share 80s kid’s nostalgia, as when I was young, my dad always used to play songs from his childhood, which ended up becoming mine. I grew up with these songs. Crap, I was born in the wrong generation. For a lot of people, the 80s is the place they want to go back to, for me, it’s the time I would like to visit, and experience greater songs, movies, and, in general, everything.
Easily top 10 best new wave songs ever

Yes. This song brings back so many memories of my teenage years.
¿Ya no se hace buena música?
Están épica que hasta en Futurama la sacaron, y la escena lo deja a uno llorando......
Good music, it doesn't lose its essence, it perpetuates in eternity. Anyone who agrees gives a thumbs up
True unlike taylor swift, bieber, minaj etc
Music is true magic. When I hear this song, I instantly travel back in time. Back to a simpler day. Back to innocents!
Back to my first teenager's turmoils... 😊
