      This test is like 95% accurate there is still a chance it has other issues but normally this will get you there most of the time. Not to mention it’s free and not just throwing parts at it

      I thinks so too and it applies to just about any GM vehicle from that time.

    Thanks for this it helped me alot. I have a 76 T/A with the 400 Pontiac and right before I put the car away for the winter last year my gauge pegged way past the maximum pressure line so now I can test it and hopefully replace just the sending unit.

      Right on! The gauge rarely fails typically sending unit, ground fault or damaged wiring being the issue.

    Years ago I had a revelation and realized halfway on the factory gauge on a GM MEANT 0 ZERO OIL PRESSURE! I WAS A KID AND GREW UP REAL QUICK.😅. I had bought a 67 Camaro with a 350 4 speed, and the guy told me he raced it on the weekends 😂. I found out the reason it was for sale for $1000 he snapped the oil pump drive shaft on his last race 😯😔.

      Oh man, $1,000 for a Camaro that needs an engine doesn’t sound like a bad deal to me

    This the first time I've seen one of your videos. Very well done! I've owned and driven my 68 Firebird convertible for the past 46 years, and I'm the only one that works on it. I knew my fuel sending unit was bad but you showed me a very simple way to verify that before I drop the tank. Thank you! Question for you: I have the factory Rally Gauges. All the gauges have always worked well. Then, the oil pressure gauge pegged to max pressure, and stays there. It even stays there with the battery disconnected. I just grounded that wire and no change. Can you tell me how to troubleshoot the gauge? Thank you. Rick

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  4 місяці тому +1

      Good chance the gauge itself is bad or the printed circuit. Start on the back side of the cluster or maybe start at the wire to sending unit you should have voltage with a volt meter when the key is on. If not, work it back unit you find it. Because if there is no voltage to “find” ground the gauge will be pegged high. If voltage is present and all the other gauges work fine it comes down to circuit board or gauge.

    • @rickstid-bits
      @rickstid-bits 4 місяці тому +1

      That's what I was thinking. If the gauge itself is bad - where can a get a replacement? I'm only seeing entire gauge clusters for sale. Thanks for your help. Rick

    • @rickstid-bits
      @rickstid-bits 4 місяці тому

      Ps. My car came with the basic cluster and I converted it to the Rally cluster 35 years ago - by figuring out how to do it myself. I only say that so you know I am very familiar with the pod, PCB, and wiring. Thanks again.

      @@rickstid-bits at one time the dealer sold each individual gauge but not sure if you will have any luck finding one of those now. Might be worth looking into.

    My gauge conversion has been a pain! New gauge conversion from Ames performance on my 69 Firebird. Temperature gauge good but oil pressure gauge floats to 80 when key off. Key on goes to zero. Start car goes to 80? Any ideas?

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  3 місяці тому +1

      Can’t say I have seen that before, seems
      To work normal when running. 80
      Is a bit high but it’s moving when started. Is it just gravity or an electrical issue. I would try as disconnect the battery as soon as you shut it off,
      That way you can eliminate it
      Being an electrical issue.

    I was wondering if you would build and ship one of your body dollies? If it were designed so it bolted together instead of weld it probably could be shipped flat and assembled once received? I would be willing to pay for one. Thoughts?

      Shipping would be expensive. I tried shipping the frame rail jig when I still had it and it was estimated at over $1,000 to ship from Indy to Maryland
