You split one big battle into 3 smaller quick battles. It's like I just witnessed Napoleon beating superior force by separating it in parts. It's amazing. You showed me that having initiative and taking risks is more rewarding than playing passively and cautiously. My battles became more interesting. Thank you
Napoleonic Wars battles included a lot more usage of terrain and cities and buildings. You see that very seldomly in Total War games. Empire and Napoleon Total war had some buildings like churches, you could garrison units in them during the battle, etc scattered about and you had battles with settlements that were on mountainsides. Wish Shogun 2 had more fascinating map generation like that, too. I very often see the same map over and over again.
There are times to different behaviour: - When you are in an excellent situation, taking risks can help you maximise gain, because you can afford to lose a few times. - When you have a good position, don't do anything rash to lost it. - When you are in a desperate situation, you MUST rush through the Valley of Death to reach life on the other side
The song Good Death makes the battle even better. Jeff Van Dyck made a masterful soundtrack and it's available on Spotify. The superb blend of taiko drums and I believe a shakuhachi Japanese flute on this track makes it my favourite.
I remember having a similar case in Napoleon, but what i did was get the hell out of the ambush zone befire they could get any shots in and and made it to a nearby hill relatively unscathed.
This is exactly the reason why I dislike Ambushes in Shogun 2 as the attacker: the AI will do exactly the same and you will end up either loosing half your army or put all on the same side and end up fighting a regular field battle with the ambushed retaining a moral debuf ...
Two split forces is not a good ambush formation, at least in modern tactics. "L" shapes are prefered so you have proper support across your front, and to reduce friendly fire. Its a shame the AI chooses to split so evenly in half
@@tonedeaftachankagaming457 Seems reasonable. If you do that against the AI however, it will just retreat and you, again, have just a regular field battle ... quite a disappointing mechanic in my oppinion.
@@thrall1342 try an L with two units of cav in opposite corner as your primary force. enough to get in and tie them down long enough for your melee to reach them and force the fight on your terms
One of the best battles in one of the best total wars. Shogun 2 just hits differently, it has so much energy and is so dynamic. I really hope that we get a good Shogun 3 someday.
This was nice. I do wish battles in Shogun 2 would last a little longer so we could have more time to savour our victories. That final charge would have been more satisfying if the silly army losses mechanic wasn't a thing.
Small question: why didn't you start funneling your archers through the left (as you viewed it) side of the line after you had created a gap and then broke the unit in that hole? No harm no foul it's just losses that don't matter but I wondered
I forget if yari samurai have second wind or the rush ability in base shogun 2? If they had rush they could have caught those 2 routing units at the end
If a reinforcing army has a proper general, are they still affected if the first army's general dies? This is something I've never understood in Shogun 2
His army can still reach them with the movement exploit. He has 3 Cav units, and would only really need to consume the remaining movement on one of the infantry
Because he’s a popular (some have millions of subs but don’t get same engage) so the bots are just that, scripts reading channels for videos then submitting template comments. Pretty simple really, a lot simpler then any programming in tw.
What I wouldn't fucking give for ambushes to start like this in WH3, the cutscene bullshit is a fucking death sentence 99% of the time, especially if you're playing on Legendary,
@@amongdrip8073hehe, my first campaign, shimazu on vh. Frankly I find otomo portugese tercos kind of weak, only due to micromanageent. I prefer heavy rush game overwhelming swooping crane, even on legendary. Mind you, matchlock are overpowered on siege defence.
Yo legend you beast, you should try getting used to selecting your units via the UI cards & bottom, instead of click and drags, i find it so much more accurate to control forces. Trading off speed every so slightly though.. But in most cases it pays off. Might be something to play with to improve even more.
“Legend has given my legions back!”
"Publius Quinctilius Legend, give me back my legions!... Oh you did, carry on then."
A SHAMFRO DISPRAY! for the enemy.
Good ending

It's called Defeat in Detail if my memory serves me correctly.

the dude plays Medieval 2 and picked the Takeda, very cool dude
Should be a pre battle option for future TW titles. So there'd be quick save, fight, auto resolve, withdraw, or "Send save file to LegendofTotalWar" 😂
One of the most epic Shogun 2 disaster battle save so far
2:09 lmao, "the beehive"
clearly that general follows the beeshido code
@@Crocalu I bet the generals are buzzing around Japan!
He got really unlucky with that ambush. He even had a ninja there to try to detect it.
Spectacular that this man is bringing Shogun 2 back
Great Micro, Incredible Tactics. This is why I watch Legend - he makes me better at TW games in general.
This battle is a textbook case of defeat in detail. Wonderful job, sir.
feels like the battle of summerhall but in japan

Takeda Shingen is the perfect general for this battle! His inspires fear trait was no doubt crucial to routing that first battle so quickly
Yup. Although it is just an area of effect for his bodyguard unit as far as I know. It is not a debuff for the entire battlefield.
Also the guy who could probably realistically win this battle. All he needs is his fan
the men are fatigues my lord, and some must rest
Impressive my lord. A great vcitory will soon be yours.

Varus in his grave taking notes. Very well played.
Takeda Shingen! ❤
I love it when Legend flexes his micro skills.
nice use of the napoleon's "position centrale"
Artisan's work. Good stuff Legend
Defeat in detail always works and yep everything well said about how to deal with ambushes
Cavalry in shogun 2 sounds really familiar to Rome 2 they are not made to fight for ever rather charge get them out etc.

5 horses here makes wonders. I loved ambush with the takeda.
a joke for the old legend: "My sister had a baby to 'save the relationship'. It didn't work though.... I still don't talk to her". For the old legend.
It's amazing how legend doesn't pause on large battle because sometimes it's too much for me and i just pause whenever my micro isn't fast enoguh

The best SYDB is your own battle. Try that one BUT PLEASE use the community bugfix mod.
I didn't even know you could get ambushed in Shogun II
