      It only happens if your army stays still for a whole turn and then gets attacked by the enemy. You rarely ever get to use them because you can move so far on Shogun 2 an enemy army is usually within range before the conditions are met. I'm almost certain another game has this exact same mechanic Empire and Napoleon?? I think you can stand on wall barricades and plant mines in those wait Medieval 2 has them too I remember using stakes for English Longbows.

    • @Knoloaify
      @Knoloaify 10 місяців тому +53

      @@udozocklein6023 Not really. Usually, people didn't build barricades on the battlefield. The most notable cases in Medieval Europe were the Hussites with their carts, and later the English with their longbowmen during the HYW, and the French with their artillery and gunmen during its last battle at Castillon.
      In Japan, Nobunaga was the first one to become famous for combining trenches, barricades, spearmen, and gunmen to take out the Takeda army at Nagashino. The tactic was later reused by his successors in the few conflicts that followed his death.

      You can also do a Shogun I style bridgehead (90% of the battle maps are rivers with 1 bridge 😭). Need at least 2 layers to make it work (gaps/pathing nonsense), but he had plenty of archers to do it.... and could have then ran the archers into the woods (AI so forgetful). Once the tarball bridgehead is engaged, get the archers in range from the side and rain hell down on them while screening with yari sam and sending cav after AI's ranged units.

    I'm surprised you still remember all the cheese there is for every particular Total War, especially because some things work in the opposite way in one game or the other. Always honoring the UA-cam name lol.

    The odds don’t seem all that bad with classic tactics actually, Bow Samurai have a fair chance at Katana Samurai, especially since he is of the Chosokabe clan, wich has the best archers. Of course you would use the deployables and the retreat the archers as soon as the Katana Samurai get in range. The Yari Ashigaru form a powerful yari wall, wich gives them an edge in chokeholds between the barricades. Also consider the light cavalry as quite formidable if they charge into the rear of some Katana Samurai, as long as you manage to avoid the enemy’s Yari Samurai. His general is also much better, wich could help with the ashigaru moral problem, but if you manage to hold the line, this won’t be an issue anyway. In my experience, Yari Ashigaru fair better in line battles than their samurai counterpart when pitted against eachother, since they have longer spears and higher numbers in their individual units.

    video is only 7 days old? Good to see that people still post tactical videos for Total War Shogun 2. The funny thing is the moment I saw that you're taking a defensive stand with the barricade I know exactly what shenanigans you're going to do. The pathing for the AI is honestly quite dumb and highly abusable. Can't tell the number of times I've pulled off impossible battles with matchlocks and barricade combination. A lot of micro, but very satisfying when you've absolutely trashed the primary stack of the enemy with some cheapo stack shenanigans...
    I think one thing you forgot to mention is what level of difficulty the game is set at?

    This is like my English campaign with Medieval Total War 2 and archers spikes. Long disruptive spikes, then shove tough units behind it and just repeatedly kite the enemy into / onto them. If I'd had this in MTW2 it would have just been endless killzones.
