My headcanon is that the heir of Scrooge were both Donald and his nephews, with the former inheriting the Money Bin and all its contains, and the latter the vast economic empire, which they would divide in three. And that essentially, after all these adventures, Donald Duck would basically become a new Scrooge, who would treasure this money, representing his memories of protecting it, just like Scrooge did for representing his memories of amassing it!

I think the "reconquest" of Rome was more like the "fall" of Rome, since it weakeaned the emepire, spent lots of resources, and made Rome a shadow of its old glory. The city of Rome was reduced and The Ostrogothic Kingdom continued Roman insitutions. And the Byzantine/Eastern Roman Empire at the time was slowly becoming less Roman in culture and more Greek.
