Being a fan of Tuomas since I first saw some Nightwish live video at friend's computer when I was 15. Now I'm 35, and the fan's love and admiration I have for him is endless, eternal. I learned Finnish language, I lived in Finland, not far from Kitee, his village, I went to music school library in Savonlinna, to play some piano and lend some CDs, the exact school where he was studying. I learned piano, I played synths in rock band.. Man, I owe so much to this amazing person, he shaped a good part of my personality.
I'm Nightwish Fan from the first day. But without Tuomas Nightwish is just a 'Night' without a 'Wish'. He is so much underrated and deserves more attention on this masterpieces he create. He's the Mozart of our Century.
This is when one of the world's best song writers writes a song (or a whole album) about the biography of one of the most fascinating cartoon characters in the world, drawn by one of the best cartoonists of all times. (And by that I do not necessarily mean Rosa's drawing style, but the amount of work he puted into his stories, especially those presented as The Life and Times of Scrooge.) This is pure Epicness. And after the release of this album, I listened to it for weeks without end. This one is clearly my favorite.
"fortuna favet fortibus". This is latin for fortune favours the brave, and is, according to Don Rosa, what was written on Scrooge mcDucks gravestone when he died in 1967. Best part in the song for sure!
This man is so underrated omg. He's amazing! Everything with Nightwish, wow! Everything in his solo work, wow! Just everything he does, wow! He deserves so much more worldwide!
@@Un4Given71 Well, the ordinary everyday run of the mill music fan has no clue who this guy is. Especially not in America, where boring pop, Reggaeton, New country puke and hip hop shit rule. This song, and the whole album, contains some of the most beautiful music ever written in the history of music. The story has also made a huge impact on me, I was 5 when I read the Life And Times of Scrooge for the first time and it is one of the most epic, heartwarming, hilarious and amazing graphic novels of all time. When I heard this soundtrack for the first time, from my FAVOURITE composer, I burst into tears. He managed to created the story of Scrooge through music like no one else could have done. Even Don Rosa himself wept when he heard the demo tapes, and I do not blame him at all for that. This is mafic. Everything with this is on another level of composing and it exceeds the definition of music. It's so much more. The emotions that hit me when I listen to this album are so numerous and wild, they can't be contained. No words I'll be able to communicate can ever justify how amazing this album is. Tuomas is a genius. And Don Rosa is a legend. Nothing but eternal love for this 💜💜💜💜💜
It doesn't matter how many times over the years I've listened to this song, it never fails to bring me to tears with it's beauty. Thank you Tuomas, thank you for everything your music has brought to me since I discovered Nightwish.
I totally get it, I do. How Tuomas feels about his music, his passion for fantasy, his love of adventure. He pours all of it into his music and it speaks to me. I can't explain it, I just understand.
From about 2:38 it feels like a Nightwish song tbh! Just need stronger bass lines, and a little guitar solo leading to a floorgasm! Otherwise tempo and epicness are there
Well...better later than never. As a NW fan you certainly know other projects that Tuomas has...like this. He has been a Disney Duck fan since a child and read first comics at the age of 3 years. It came a suitable time for him to realize this project.
Tuomas composes some of the most beautiful pieces of the modern time. His writing had the power to draw raw emotion and really capture the feel of the story. What a talented, beautiful, genius.
Without Tuomas compositions, early Nightwish.. I probally wouldn't have learned piano by myself, learning his songs, now 6 years later I have made so many of my own piano songs and he IS my favourite musician of all time. The beauty he can put into sounds...
I was inspired to become a singer/songwriter/storyteller when I started listening to Nightwish about two years ago, and I realized it is possible to create beautiful music while telling a story :-)
Its so amazing how so many of us find inspiration from his art. I have been writing off and on for the last few years. His music and a recent family death (which his music helped me cope with) have pushed me to pursue writing to a greater extent. I just find so much peace in his music, so much inspiration.
This music touches my heart. Everytime I listen to some Tuomas Holopainen's song I have glistening eyes. It's amazing how he can make such beautiful and touching melodies like this...thank you, maestro.
Tuomas has filled my life with both tears and inspiration can't believe it took me this long to truly start appriciating his music and his compostion congrats tuomas you are offically in my eyes and many others the greatest modern composer (knowing you though you'll never admit that)

Absolute TOSH - sorry - what are you on ????. This piece is embarrassingly bad - and if you judged him just by this - it would make him the WORST modern composer. And it's not that Tuomas isn't capable of great things. He is. But this is NOT to his favour !! And you guys that just like anything because it's Tuomas without being discriminating are doing him NO favours. Because if he starts to believe you - he's in bigger trouble still. I did have high hopes of this project when I first heard the trailer. But I'll tell you straight now - this willl go down like a lead balooon in UK and USA - and other markets (right over Ducksburg).
jezkn it seems that you try so hard, but I wander what is the point, do you try to stop to people to hear this album, or you just try to make people believe in your own point of view (like if everybody were stupid except you) ...? this things are very personal, if the guy want to call him "the best moderm composer" it's ok there is nothing wrong with that, since your personal taste can't tell him who is the best, people getting upset for that is so stupid that it looks like envy...
Edwin Mwinne I'm not really bothered whether people see my point of view or not (its worth no more than anybody elses). But at least it IS an alternative point of view (and I won't be the only one either). You are also right about it being very personal - but that's why if somebody claims Tuomas is the best modern composer based on THIS piece and anoither disagrees they should say so. When you make such high and mighty (and absurd) claims you open yourself up to criticism. And you my friend musn't try and stifle debate. UA-cam is not a poilice state!! If people disagree let them say so. Why not ? - Thats what UA-cam is about . We're not a bunch of 'yes men' (or women). However if he, she or you want to come back and tell us why you think this piece makes Tuomas 'the best modern composer' then I would welcome that (because I would strongly take issue with it). But if you love this plece - then EN JOY !! (Perhaps I'm the only one that doesn't) !
jezkn As regards envy - you are partially right there too - but you got the wrong piece. I AM envious of 'The Life and Times' trailer with orchestra, choir, and Mikko's guitar solo. But NO - not of this piece (which is taken from a thousand others anyway). I'm also envious of Tuomas's 'Sleeping Sun'. Oh Yeah - I WISH i'd written that one !
I disagree as well. This piece is boring and uses the same musical solutions like in all the newer Nightwish songs. Same symphonics, same melody. Nothing which would categorize a composer modern, or best..
It isn't the music(which is beautiful) that makes me feel so good in Tuomas' songs. It's the things it makes me think of. My dreams I've yet to make come true with the perfect soundtrack playing in the background.
The album is a masterpiece like the books is. Out of all comics ever Life and times of Scoorge has something special in it, it's not just a fun comic. It's a story about life and adventure.

Sejak pertama kali dengar 2014 lalu, saya benar-benar tidak bisa melupakan album ini, khususnya lagu ini. Lagu ini yg membuat saya untuk pertama kalinya tau betapa luar biasanya Johanna Kurkela. And until now I still be a big fan of her
Revisiting these wonderful pieces of music, as a duck fan--and god. I miss it so much. I will spread the word of this music until the day I die, I promise you...because every Duck fan deserves to hear the majesty that is Music inspired by the Life and Times of Scrooge Mcduck.
Masterpiece again from Tuomas and great singing by Johanna. What a pleasure to be able to enjoy this, hope they continue for ever making these deep, meaningful, intelligent pieces with a story included.
Having been an Uncle Scrooge fan since I was a young boy, and an avid collector and reader of Scrooge, both Carl "Ducky" Barks, and Don Rosa, Tuomas has captured musically what these two great cartoonists created. Scrooge is a complex yet simple Duck, and also having lived in Alaska myself and walked in the places where Scrooge found gold, love with Glittering Goldie, etc I hear and see the old Duck himself, I see the Northern Lights shimmering, dancing in the sky on a peaceful cold Alaskan winter night. Just a fantastic song, and album.
Leeave it to Tuomas Holopainen to write a music about Donald Duck and make it sounds totally effing EPIC!!!! and... best of all, make metal-lovers totally fall in love with it. Gotta love Tuomas :D
just discovered this song & it's soo beautiful beyond comprehension, it made tear up when i came to realize how much have sickness took of me & how much more it will take in the near future. health & happiness is the things i lost, love & my existence are the things i cound't share another rainbow's end not far ahead. this song is a masterpiece
The spoken parts remind me so much Century Child... I feel so nostalgic right now! Don Rosa's life of Scrooge mcDuck is a masterpiece, in my opinion. He depicted such a strong, and yet so human, uncle Scrooge, one can't help, I reckon, loving it! This is amazing, really.
Oh my god the chorus is just so aaaah! AMAZING! The moment when you listen new album from tuomas (nightwish or solo project, doesnt matter) for the first time is just something words can't describe.. The moment when I listened imaginaerum album for the first time and I Want My Tears Back's uillean pipe intro kicks, I got this huge emotional blow and I literally got tears in my eyes, though it is not sad part or anything but the joy and musical "extasy" just hit me so hard and I was just so overwhelmed! And same thing when I was listening to this scrooge album and heard the chorus of 'The Last Sled' for the first time "...Thing we lost ...the things we couldn't share.." it was (and is!) just pure musical perfection, a perfect harmony straight to my soul. These are really special moments in life, the feeling is just something so unique. Though I listen to these albums again many times and really enjoy it! But the feeling when you go to your dark room, remove all source of light, put closed headphones on and listen the album for the first time from start to the last second is just one of the best feelings in life!
Oh how I miss that feeling, lost that somewhere while becoming "adult", starting a family, growing cynic and such events. But I did that too with each new album when I was younger
That's Johanna Kurkela, the best singer in the world, and also Tuomas' wife. I'm glad she married such a talented musician. They will achieve much together.
Good news estêvão! My copy has arrived and you are so right - it's brilliant music! I heard they're going to release re-prints of Don Rosa's books. Here's hoping those rumours are true!
Yes... Its a brilliant album, specially if you read the novel. The release of re-prints are such good news, my copy went to trash a few years ago and i'm unable to find it at reasonable price.
I've just read the full Lo$ story, including the "Related Tales" story this song's based on- this song really captures the feel of that song, especially the usage of RW Service's "Spell Of The Yukon" poem! Holopainen is a great musician!
The Last Sled There’s gold, and it’s haunting and haunting It’s luring me on as of old! Yet it isn’t the gold that I’m wanting so much as just finding the gold! It’s the great, big, broad land ‘way up yonder! The great, broad land ‘way up yonder Haunting him as of old Yet, it ain’t the gold itself So much as finding the gold Farewell, White Agony Creek Farewell, the three long years Can’t leave behind what’s in this sled Things we lost The things we couldn’t share Another rainbow’s end Another memory Fortuna Favet Fortibus! Hold on to all that’s dear to you As the last sled to Dawson finally arrives It’s the forests where silence has lease It’s the beauty that fills me with wonder! It’s the stillness that fills me with peace! The stillness that fills him with peace The beauty of the wild Rainbow’s end with golden dreams Starlit sky and coffee & beans Farewell, White Agony Creek Farewell, the three spring thaws One day I will return to you Things we lost The things we couldn’t share Another rainbow’s end Another memory Fortuna Favet Fortibus! Hold on to all that’s dear to you As the last sled to Dawson finally arrives
This is probably the MOST inspiring song i have heard, ever. I love the instruments, Vocals and the whole structure of this song ! When i first listened this i got goosebumbs. Well done Sir holopainen, Well done.
Indeed :D Although, it's a huge shame to see Anette go... You CANNOT do the beautiful theatrical things they've done in DPP and Imaginarium with a Soprano singer. Just would not work XD Anette's voice > Tarja's (Imo) - The vocalist in this sounds so like Anette. If they had found someone of similar talent to this singer, then I'd be alot happier than Floor (Who's good, but, reminds me of Tarja - And, unless they go back to the likes of Wishmaster, Oceanborn and similar ideas, I doubt I'd enjoy it as much as the recent albums!) But I'm sure Floor will be a nice addition to the talent pool that is NW :D
***** I don't think he/they got rid of them in order to take another musical direction... They just didn't get along well, plain and simple. Human relationships do change and nw isn't the first nor the last band that has been through line up changes. The urge to find someone to blame is caused by our level of butthurtness :p That being said, I agree that all of them are great singers and now, Floor has a versatile voice that matches their versatile music ;)
***** Actually they've changed the style while Tarja was still in. Take CC: darker and "heavier" sound, use of orchestra and a softer voice. DPP wasn't that much different from Once...They "played it safe" because it was written without having a specific voice in mind. So, that's why I don't think he did it on purpose. If that was the case, he could have easily thrown off Tarja at the end of the Wishmaster tour ;) Anyway, let's enjoy the awesome music! Have fun :D
***** To an extent a composer will match his musicians. You would not compose a song for an alto voice and turn to a soprano. You would not compose a song for a violin and ask a trumpet to play it. Tarja's beautiful voice drew people to Nightwish and she did contribute to the compositions. But it is Tuomas's compositions and leadership of the band which keeps you a Nightwish fan. Tuomas is also the one who kept them from going overboard on the Classical side and the presence of metal a reality. Annette had a very interesting voice but you could hear some weaknesses and I did wonder if she could continue for very long. Floor is smart, her voice well trained. She does not demand more of it than it is capable and she has the stage presence that Nighwish needs. Tarja is still perfecting her craft, she continues to improve and one day she is going to take the Classical world by storm.
My goodness! That was quite the tale. It's nice that they used the sketches as the background. Such magnificent music, it gave me goosebumps. It's been years since I heard anything from this project. So glad to go back to it!
If ever I shall have to fight, then fight shall I... Because music is my weapon, and all I wish to save in the world. Because if music is saved, the world is saved.

Revisiting these wonderful pieces of music, as a duck fan--and god. I miss it so much. I will spread the word of this music until the day I die, I promise you...because every Duck fan deserves to hear the majesty that is Music inspired by the Life and Times of Scrooge Mcduck.
Tuomas is a gift for this amazing world, he brings feelings that will take u for a ride!
What an awesome song!!
THANKYOU Thomas 💜
No words. Really, no words for this symphony
Why am founding this now for first time? Beautiful
Johanna Kurkela's voice gives me goose bumps. She is probably my favorite female singer. I hope she will release an English album one fine day.
Have you checked her work in Auri?
Or Scrooge McDuck... you know what I mean :p
What a master piece of Tuomas! No words! So beautiful and sublime. Great!
How beautiful! Emotional flows with tears. Love Tuomas and his music!!
And the music of his wife, Johanna Kurkela, too.
Such a beautiful song, and in a way it adds some extra beauty that his wife is doing the female vocals. Amazing soothing song
just discovered this song & it's soo beautiful beyond comprehension, it made tear up when i came to realize how much have sickness took of me & how much more it will take in the near future.
health & happiness is the things i lost, love & my existence are the things i cound't share another rainbow's end not far ahead.
this song is a masterpiece
Tuomas definitely has a future in scoring films. No one writes music that touches my soul like he has.
This music is soo beautiful! Thank you for including some of Don’s original sketch pages for Last Sled to Dawson! ❤❤
Can't believe this masterpiece hasn't got 1 billion views yet.
Wth ?!?
Life isn't fair. But spread the message :)
This is such a beautiful piece, especially when in the backdrop of ancient Rome history, reconquest and animation. Just magical.
This is beautiful but it becomes simply magical if you've read the Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck
But the feeling when you go to your dark room, remove all source of light, put closed headphones on and listen the album for the first time from start to the last second is just one of the best feelings in life!
wow!!!! ;)):D
so true!
Relating so much
Oh how I miss that feeling, lost that somewhere while becoming "adult", starting a family, growing cynic and such events. But I did that too with each new album when I was younger
The album is true masterpiece!
i love the singer girl.. she's mystical
It's Tuomas' wife
oh really? Nice :) i didn't know that...
haha, she's in most of the songs in this album
Cool! i really love her haha.. thanks for the information bro!
She is his wife)
the voice it's perfect
That's Johanna Kurkela, the best singer in the world, and also Tuomas' wife. I'm glad she married such a talented musician. They will achieve much together.
Oh. And here I was thinking it was Annette Olson (Nightwish's 2nd singer).
Finally! My album arrived, listening as long i'm writing! Thanks Tuomas it's awesome!
You're so lucky!!! I'm still waiting for mine with such eagerness I am almost giddy! Hopefully won't be much longer :) I'm loving everything so far :)
Margo Belle-Fleur Patience, you waited for so long, you can wait a bit more... trust me, it will be worthy ;)
This is simply magical! Tuomas, you surprised us again and again! Simply wonderful! Thanks for that!
This is the most beautiful music I have heard in a long time!
The singer is Johanna Kurkela, Holopainen's wife.
Love the picture of Tuomas and Don ❤️
Hi from Czech Republic, I really love this song. Tuomas got talent from God. I love suomi music at all.
I'm also from Czech Republic ❤️ suomalainen music on kaunis!
Toumas.... You created magic music...briliant
I've just read the full Lo$ story, including the "Related Tales" story this song's based on- this song really captures the feel of that song, especially the usage of RW Service's "Spell Of The Yukon" poem! Holopainen is a great musician!
Such a great composer Tuomas is... 💜
Looks like a weird mix between Enya and Fantasmic by Nightwish (you can definitely hear the "hand" of Holopainen"), and it's awesome!
Tuomas couldn't have written this. I'm not seeing the words "caress" or "awe" haha just kidding. This guy is fucking amazing! A true virtuoso!
Haha, so true :D I love this song anyway.
Or "Ocean soul"
Or "little boy"
Or innocence
Oscar Arend or sin. lol
Tuomas has the power to turn everything he touches into gold!!
The Work of a master ! this is another level of music, mortals couldn`t understand.
Are you immortal then ?
We that fell the music and understand the work, we all are !
Yves Brandao We better start praying to you too then.
This track has reached my heart. Your melody is awsome. Congratulations Tuomas!
The Last Sled There’s gold, and it’s haunting and haunting
It’s luring me on as of old!
Yet it isn’t the gold that I’m wanting so much as just finding the gold!
It’s the great, big, broad land ‘way up yonder!
The great, broad land ‘way up yonder
Haunting him as of old
Yet, it ain’t the gold itself
So much as finding the gold
Farewell, White Agony Creek
Farewell, the three long years
Can’t leave behind what’s in this sled
Things we lost
The things we couldn’t share
Another rainbow’s end
Another memory
Fortuna Favet Fortibus!
Hold on to all that’s dear to you
As the last sled to Dawson finally arrives
It’s the forests where silence has lease
It’s the beauty that fills me with wonder!
It’s the stillness that fills me with peace!
The stillness that fills him with peace
The beauty of the wild
Rainbow’s end with golden dreams
Starlit sky and coffee & beans
Farewell, White Agony Creek
Farewell, the three spring thaws
One day I will return to you
Things we lost
The things we couldn’t share
Another rainbow’s end
Another memory
Fortuna Favet Fortibus!
Hold on to all that’s dear to you
As the last sled to Dawson finally arrives
Found this beautiful creation six years late, but am so happy I did
the voice so enchanting
pure genius.his music is from another universe
This is probably the MOST inspiring song i have heard, ever. I love the instruments, Vocals and the whole structure of this song ! When i first listened this i got goosebumbs. Well done Sir holopainen, Well done.
...I'm crying, it's too... too beautiful!!! it fit so well with the story and the characters!
And I just found out about this amazing song now? :(
That said Tuomas is amazing!
Love it 💙💙💙💙
you should listen to the whole album
Also people need to understand. Without this guy, NW would never be who they are now. I'm getting this album. Just off this song. Beautiful!
Tuomas IS Nightwish! You are as right as truth
If that was the case, he could have easily thrown off Tarja at the end of the Wishmaster tour ;)
Anyway, let's enjoy the awesome music!
I just can't stop listening to this amazing album... A true masterpiece! Kiitos, maestro !
Great job, Tuomas! ;) Respect from Serbia!
Johanna ja Tuomas kiitos.
Beautiful. Well done Tuomas and Johanna.
How could I hear that just now?? thank you Thomas.
My goodness! That was quite the tale. It's nice that they used the sketches as the background. Such magnificent music, it gave me goosebumps. It's been years since I heard anything from this project. So glad to go back to it!
This is amazing.
Thank you for this GREAT piece of epicness.
One of best albums in this decade. Tuomas I hail to your greatness.
This is fantastic, this makes me dream. I don't need drugs, music makes me fly :)
Neither i. We are the lucky ones.
If ever I shall have to fight, then fight shall I...
Because music is my weapon, and all I wish to save in the world. Because if music is saved, the world is saved.
that's the work of a true artist, so much respect for Tuomas!!!
wow tuomas is an amazing musician, composer and poet. I've been hearing nightwish since "ocean born" his music represent a big part of my life :) I'd really like to see them one day.
Tuomas knocked this out of the park...gave me goosebumps
N0 - duckbumps
Best chorus ever. The lyrics are just amazing...
Don Rosa et Tuomas Holopainen, un mélange parfait !
Tuomas bravo!!! 👏👏👏
The term "fortuna favet fortibus" is so impactful and prominent in this vid, it is the number one result when searching for it on youtube.
Even over every vid that accually includes it in the title. But it makes sense. This time in Screooge's life is the embodyment of "fortuna favet fortibus".
Hi Tuomas I love all the music you write!
"Fortuna favet fortibus, hold on to all that's dear to you" such an interesting lyric
Tuomas is without a doubt the best writer alive
