I've spent lockdown binging on tutorials about how to promote your music and this is hands down the best channel I've come across. You're one of the precious few who don't come across like a motivational speaker. Just cold hard data.
It's amazing that after years of not knowing wtf to do to promote my music, all I had to do was find your videos and I now have a game plan. Feels good to have some idea of what to do.
I think this guy gives the best marketing advice.. am on the road can't wait to get home next week to start.. i wanted to give up on facebook ads, but i believe on ur information.
Hi Andrew, how do create the campaign into a folder with the ad sets into it ? 5:02 - I want to have my ad sets directory the way you have it, Thanks in advance !
dude- thats some deep stuff...... I understand ROI more than anything- shorterm and longterm and its all about the longterm created by gains of the shortterms....
Hey Andrew, I honestly love your tutorials on Facebook ads - I think they're the most direct and clearly explained ones out there for this type of thing. One thing I'm finding difficult to visualise however is the overall order in which a promotion should operate. For example; Do you start with an awareness campaign of certain groups to see who engages the most, then create a look alike from there and continue on or is a cold conversion fine to go with? I imagine it's just lots of practice with tweaking to see what sticks rather than a set order.
Thanks I appreciate that! I try to be as direct as I can :D. So in this case I did run a pre-launch campaign with the Marcel video (shown in my last DistroKid video). I ran it to Post Malone fans, and from the engagement on that I was able to talk to some people and ask what music they like and what artists they think sound like the song. That gave me some ideas to use as targets for the. main campaign come launch day, and 99% of the traffic was pushed to a cold audience - for some reason my retargeting didn't perform as well as the cold audience. So the Marcel campaign was basically exploratory, but it did get me a lot of new Instagram followers and resulted in some genuine conversations with people. Research and testing in itself is still pretty valuable even if the retargeting doesn't work out well. But every song is a little different. I'm always testing new ideas to see what works, so it really is just lots of practice and tweaking. With experience you get better at predicting and researching though.
@@AndrewSouthworth That was an excellent response, you've really cleared it up for me! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain the process - It was super helpful.
@@AndrewSouthworth Im learning- thanks for sharing.... running three tests at once- a push playlist- a submithub and FB ads...... as a newbie- I know results differ so not putting pressure on any of it... one day at a time- one follower..haha
Hey Andrew, you are so cool ;) is it more efficient to link directly from ads on platform (spotify, apple music) one ad per platform ? like Lucidious seems to do
Do you mean make individual ads for Spotify, and for Apple Music? If so, then yes haha. The Apple Music campaign I show in this video actually has their own videos, the only difference however is it says 'Stream on Apple Music' with the Apple Music logo (following their branding guidelines of course). I wouldn't blend them together, you want people to know where you're sending them. Its okay to have them on the same landing page link I think though, like I have on the Hypeddit landing page.
@@AndrewSouthworth Yes Andrew and Thanks, I think about making individual ads, one for Spotify and one for Apple music... so it links directly to the streaming platform, instead of adding a landing page.
So you CAN go straight to platform with a link click campaign, but you'll get a lot of clicks that don't result in streams. A few months ago I did a campaign, and after $40 of ad spend and like 600 clicks, the song only had like 10 streams. I believe a few accidental swipes and/or bots were the first to 'click' the ad, which caused Facebook to see super cheap clicks and then proceed to find even more accidental swipes and/or bots. So be very careful with link click campaigns direct to platform. You can do them safely, but you'll usually want to use a LAL audience, or a retargeting audience to do it. At the very least watch your Live Spotify stream count on the first day to check things are working out okay.
This is similar to what happened with my recent single. It did ok for the first 2 weeks. Then it got put in a bunch of Release Radars and the streams shot up. I would agree that saves and save rates are very important.
Awesome man! Yeah it totally works as long as you have a solid enough song and you're targeting the right people. Its worked for several of my releases, your releases, and several other artists I run ads for.
Hey Andrew! I sent you a message on Instagram, but in case you don't get it, I'll leave a comment here. I'm a little confused about Facebook Pixel. I recently set up a Hypeddit pro Smart Link to connect to my new single on Spotify. The Ads manager is saying I have to verify my pixel by either editing my website's code or using Google Tag manager. Do I need to edit my website's code even though I'm using a Hypeddit smart link? I'm not seeing how the two are connected. I put my Pixel ID in the Hypeddit smart link, but don't know what to do from there. Thanks!
On Spotify for Artists the data is there. Everyday I manually enter the data into my own spreadsheet, since you can’t see saves over time on a chart. Is that what you mean?
Yeah you can export data but it’s very limited. So every day I just take 5 minutes and track in the numbers for that day. If I don’t have time I take a screenshot of the data.
These videos are absolutely incredible Andrew. Delicately explained, crystal clear and no messing around with valuable information. Thank you so much. Your music is bloody awesome as well might I add! :) Take care x
hi friend , im a new subscriber , been watching your nice videos , i subbed today ,,,,,, i have a question,, so i want to release my first original album, so my question is, what do you suggest will work better, ,,,,,,Should i promote the album with the already released Link?? , or should i promote the Pre-save link i get from my distributor??? hope to hear from you soon.
It can be good to do a pre-promotion to get some pre-saves before the album launches, it also helps you do some audience research to find which audiences like the track best. Then when the album launches you'd stop the pre-save campaigns and go to already released links.
Thank you for this, one day I had 150 clicks on a landing page for platforms and no clicks to the music platforms. By splitting up ads and doing links straight through to the music I know all the link clicks are going to the music.
Thanks dude! Glad you dug the strategy. Yeah I know, or even better if we could embed a Pixel on a song or profile in Spotify to trigger conversions for when people do certain actions. You can kind of do something similar with a download gate, but its expensive and looks very scary to the listener due to all the permissions needed haha.
Hey Andrew thanks for all your videos. you give a lot of great information. love the channel. Quick question. On these ads that you ran how do you get the conversions to $0.10? did you set your cost control or did you average that based on your ad settings.?
Thanks! I drive the cost down by creating multiple ad sets with varying audiences, each with several ad creatives. This lets FB test and figure out where the cheapest results are.
Hey Andrew great video!! I'm a little confused on how you set up the conversion event for the hypeddit smart link click, how did u activate the event??
He did a video about how to do the pixel with TonDen, i recommend just using ToneDen instead. I hope Andrew starts exclusively using ToneDen from now on
Awesome video! Is this process cheaper than toneden? & is it more effective than toneden? Please get back to me! I just started toneden & I love the few results I’ve gotten, but if I can save money & or use a more effective way I’d prefer to do that.
Hey Justin, thanks! ToneDen is a great service, but basically they're just doing exactly what I do inside my FB ads directly. You're pretty much paying for the convenience of not having to learn it yourself. SO by default, this method is cheaper if you do it right. The performance is pretty much the same, since the ads are identical to how I do mine. However you can't do 'fancier' things like retargeting campaigns etc.
I never comment, but I had to on this video. Super helpful content my friend. You're straight to the point and you don't spend a large portion of the video with irrelevant commentary like most people. Keep it up bro!!
my toneden link just saws viewcontent as the event for the FB pixel. anyway to change the name of a general event like that to be like yours "Hypped it link click"
thank you for the valuable content you're putting out there! Have you ever tried advertising a Spotify playlist instead of just one song? If someone who opens the song with a free Spotify account they can only shuffle play your song. Which means it's gonna put a lot of random tracks from random artist there before you hear your song. But if you put your playlist with your songs they will surely hear your songs. Even if it's shuffle play
Andrew, you just gained yourself a subscriber. This is some of the most informative, well thought-out, and useful content around this topic I've found on the internet. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us publicly. I have a single release coming up next month and will certainly be approaching it with this strategy.
You can't, although i've never had an issue with the URL. With ToneDen you can, at least on their paid plan, and I believe with LinkFire you can as well, but that also is decently pricey.
@@AndrewSouthworth your right, I can't justify the price just yet for LinkFire and in context to ads it doesnt really matter.. just a nice touch. Thanks again.. starting my campaign today based on your advice!
Thank you so much for this! Just got it all set up but not sure what I'm doing wrong with my 'Custom Conversion' set up that it's not registering clicks as results?... Can I ask what you put in the 'Rules' section?
If you're using Hypeddit you can just make a custom conversion off of the Hypeddit Smart Link Click, no need to put in any rules. It might take like 30 minutes to show up.
Wow, man. Have watched quite a few of your videos and THANKS for that! I watch other channels like Damian Keyes or Burstimo, which are also great. What I love here is the real STUFF! Showing step by step how you do things. I get the feeling I recieved something I can take and put straight to use. Absolutely love this! That is NEXT LEVEL.
This isn't the type of ad you make money on, at least not in the short term. This is top of funnel fan acquisition. I should probably make some videos on this, but there are other methods you would use to actually profit from music. You CAN profit from these types of ads if you trigger algorithmic activity, but you should expect to run these types of ads at a loss.
dude I’m learning lots from your channel, I’m really glad I put aside that your music isn’t necessarily for me but the info you have is immensely valuable, you’re doing amazing work. Gonna save up to support you in some way and return the reciprocity
I don't know if SmartURL supports custom domains or the use of Pixels in the way you'd need it on their free service (or their paid service). If you're looking for a free option i'd just use ToneDen.
These vids are so good!!! Far too many people doing similar talk too much or want you to buy their products or courses and all that whereas you don't you are so genuine and just wanna help people! Literally giving out gold man!! For FREE. Unbelievable.
Hey Conrad, thanks so much! Glad you're enjoying the videos. While I do also have products and a course that opened for a small batch of beta-testing students last week, and a new Patreon page, I try to give out tons of value for free. While I was learning this stuff I was pretty annoyed at how nothing was just laid out for free, everyone had a paywall to get ANY information. So my perspective is give out enough where people could take what I teach and run with it and get great results, and the courses and Patreon stuff is for people to get a more thorough step-by-step process and keep up to date with everything i'm testing. Some artists have been able to completely replicate my success with these videos, others need a more guided approach either because they don't know the basics or they just want the full package of knowledge and some of my insight.
I've been doing the same thing on UA-cam, and it brings video views, but it doesn't really have much of an effect on Spotify plays, which are more important in the eyes of industry professionals. I will try your FB ad approach next.
Hi Andrew! Firstly, thank you so much for your videos! I watched like a bunch of them today and found a lot of info that i've been searching for some time now. As I am preparing for my next release, i want to learn how to use FB ads properly as i did fail with it quite a lot in the past. But secondly, my question is more outside of the topic of this video. I have a song coming out (a bunch of songs already released with the same issue), and i struggle to find similar sounding artists for those songs. I tried it all: asked my friends to name artists that it reminds them of, asked my musician friends to do the same. Tried searching through the artists that i am into and similar to them. But it feels like i am not really making the same music that i am listening to. And i dont have enough streams on Spotify to see related artists for myself. Is there any tip you could share? maybe there is some kind of website that i could submit my song for people to listen and help find similar artists? Would appreciate your advise. Thank you!
Thanks dude! I have a few decent sized playlists haha. Usually I try to keep all music submissions to SubmitHub, but i've seen you on my channel several times so you can just DM me on IG or send to my email address (andrew@generastudios.com). No promises on if it makes it on, but I will check it out and if its a good fit i'll add it!
Andrew Southworth you are welcome! Yeah I tried out ads technic on my new ep. I started to run those with little daily budget. This conversion is very cool! 🙏🏻
Thanks for the great information Andrew. Have you heard of toneden? it lets you create landing pages just like hypedit with pixels and everything for free.
idk why fb is charging me with Impressions ?? I clearly did everything in this video ! Shouldn't I be charged when my Link is Clicked in the conversions setting ?? Please Helpp ??
The way conversion campaigns work is you're paying for impressions, but it shows you the cost per conversion. The cost per conversion is determined essentially (to simplify it a bit) by the number of impressions it takes to generate that conversion.
@@AndrewSouthworth Hey Man thanks and One more question I had was that I noticed that I got More Link clicks but like half of them actually went to spotify , so should I assume that most people just didn't click spotify on my toneden link right ? Or maybe they won't have spotify ?
Yeah I turn on english (since my music is in english). Turn off detailed targeting expansion. Sometimes it can help, but other times it hurts performance. I always have it off when I initially make the ad, then later i'll test adding it to new ad sets.
You better sing! I loved the little snippet of your ad where you were singing over your song. You sounded great! The song sounds great too! Thanks for all the valuable information! ~Alicia T.
just curious, was this campaign for a relatively new song, like starting the day it released? wondering on the time-frame of the "newness" for getting momentum rolling like you did!
At midnight on release day i'm always up and making my ad campaigns for both myself, my other projects, or clients. This way the campaigns can be active ASAP. You don't have to be as crazy as I am with it haha, i'm sure doing it the morning of would be sufficient. Just try to at least get your stuff running on day 1.
I ran a conversion ad on facebook but it was costing me $1 per conversion. I'm not sure if Facebook ads are more expensive now or if I set up the ad incorrectly.
i'm a total noob at all this. I just cannot figure out how to get to the page where you set up your ads in face book. I've found the page with the wizard that lets you boost posts etc. even following the walkthrough on the FB business help page doesnt help because the links don't work. I'm completely lost and frustrated! :/
Hey man! How are you? Are you able to tell how to exactly link the Facebook pixel to a landingpage like toneden!? Mine is not working correctly (at all) and therefor I’m not able to run the conversion ads. Hope to hear from you man
For ToneDen you copy your Pixel ID into the ToneDen link in the settings, and then in your ads you just use the View Content conversion event (in the ad set is where you add it).
great content, thanks a lot for sharing! but i always gotta keep remember me that the main goal is to create great music, otherwise every promotion won't help...
Thanks! Yeah totally. You need a great song or album to promote for this to be effective, no getting around that! The only slight difference i'll say, is that you don't need perfection. As long as the song is at least 80% as good as anything on thats popular, you can promote it with pretty great results. I'm a curator on SubmitHub and I find SO much music I don't like at all thats insanely popular, and I find SO much music I think is fricken fabulous that gets almost no traffic. 80% is of course just a rough number. The song just has to be good enough to basically fit on a playlist with 'pro-music', and blend in as if it was also 'pro'.
I'm not sure if they have conversion tracking or not. I'm almost certain their free version does not, but their paid version MIGHT. I'd just use ToneDen or Hyperfollow if you're looking for a free version, and I have videos showing how to set up both of them.
7.43 Hi Andrew. I'm using toneden for this process as suggested by you. When I get to this part of the process I don't see custom conversion event. Any chance you could tell me what I might be doing wrong, or if I'm even supposed to see that option here for toneden?
Hi Andrew, I followed these steps and there been 222 results already, however, I still have 6 listeners and 12 streams on my Spotify. Does that means that this isn't working? Please advise.
Make sure that audience network placement is turned off, and also you may want to look at the countries that converted and consider relaunching the campaign without them. Lately countries like Egypt, Phillipines, Tunesia and Jordan have been troublesome for my campaigns.
Thank you, Andrew! This is a totally wonderful information. Because you spend $20 daily, how much did you choose to spend on each of 16 ads? Did you put a limit, or you let FB optimize this behavior? Thank you!
I got the hypeddit pro service and added the Facebook pixel but I don’t know how to set the conversion on Facebook. Hypeddit doesn’t show up. Any help?
Ok I had a similar algorithmic boost with one of my songs, but that caused my save rate to drop, probably because Spotify still isn’t pushing the music to the right people, as shown on my Fans Also Like section which is still not very accurate. How do I solve this?
Actually it’s pretty normal for your save rate to drop a lot after getting on algorithmic playlists. It could go from 60% down to like 15% after getting on them and that’d be normal.
Thank you for all this info, incredible. I have a question though, when I see tracking campaigns with links to Spotify songs, the data from FB is WAY higher than that from Spotify. Let's say FB is reporting a thousand clicks to a song on Spotify and Spotify shows only 20+ streams of that song during that same period I'm wondering what could be happening? Thanks!!
After being in touch with Spotify support that's what they said: "We're afraid that views from third party sites such as UA-cam and other social media pages aren't credited on Spotify." We must missing something, because Andrew clearly got them!
Several things can affect that. One is that if the person has the free Spotify account, they can't directly listen to your song on mobile. They can only shuffle. So, poorer countries may mostly have free Spotify accounts. The other is that they have to listen to at least 30 seconds of the song to count as a stream. And, another issue is that many people are reporting that events from ToneDen are not translating to Spotify streams. That was what happened with us. Over 200 conversions on ToneDen and no difference in streams. We are switching to Hyppedit.
@@AndrewSouthworth actually you can. My distributer shows me this information at the largest 4 playlists. I believe that in the Spotify Analytics you can see it. But it's required a label account.
I thrive for getting my Band going after some awful musician changes. Your content is Gold for that. Thank you for all information and pure value you put out to us.
Hey Andrew, I have been running a campaign on Facebook for 1 week. My EP has gottenn 1k streams over the last week, which is great! However the songs aren't being found on any playlists yet. Does this usually only begin to happen after the first week?
I'm having trouble setting up the actual Facebook pixel using Hypeddit's smart link. Facebook is saying the pixel needs to be verified and the code needs to be set up but I already inputed the Facebook pixel id into Smart Link. Need your help man!
Dude. For the life of me I cannot figure out how to create a pixel event with Hypeddit. I entered my pixel ID in my Smart Link, but in Ads Manager I have no idea how to create an event for hypeddit. Where do I paste the pixel code in Hypeddit? Thanks!
Thank you for such valuable info! In the video you mention you selected all Spotify countries for this ad. Did you exclude any, particularly countries where ads are cheaper so they don’t eat the cost or did you not worry about that for this ad?
Thanks Alice! I only exclude India from the list, but sometimes i'll put them in their own Ad Set with a budget cap. Sometimes Brazil gets out of control so I sometimes also separate that.
hey dude! thanks so much for your videos - I've watched them religiously this year and they've been so helpful. quick question though - have you ever encountered this method not working? i.e. getting lots of new listeners and not spiking the algorithm? has worked well for us this year and assumed it would be similar on our new single. ads have pulled in around 800 listeners in week 1 and running at about 40% save rate but not seeing much of a spike a week after release.
Hey Jonny! Glad they've been helping you out. It definitely doesn't ALWAYS work, or at least not always the same. There are a lot of other variables we can't see, like song skip rates and how long the listener spent on your profile. Typically if a song has over 1,000 saves, over a 50% save rate, and a stream/listener ratio of over 2.5 i've seen it get a Release Radar boost . Sometimes it takes more than that, and sometimes it takes less. I'm sure the amount of playlists users add you to plays a factor as well, and i'm sure how closely the other songs in the playlist are correlated matters also. For Discover Weekly i've seen 10-15k streams and a 50%+ save rate to get on it, but other people have told me they got on with less streams and a worse save rate, other times people hit those numbers and still don't get it. Once again, there are a million variables here we can't see. Some songs do better than others naturally, so i've found it can be useful to know when a song isn't going as planned so that you can adjust your strategy and consider switching to a smaller campaign, or on the flip side if a song is doing much better to double down and push it further.
@@AndrewSouthworth Hey Andrew, thank you for such a thorough reply dude! Guess in light of this it feels like it’s hard to strike the balance between creative freedom and chasing the algorithm, that it’s really difficult to get traction if the song doesn’t conform to an accessible length and structure
Hello Andrew, super interesting video. I work in web advertising, so no probelm for me to set up campaigns and such.. but since we want to start some microscopic promotion for my band I have a couple of quesitons: - Why would you recommend stories over PPL or Video ads on the FB feed? (I ask because you can use those organic posts as ads, but you can't with stories) - Would you recommend pushing a song, a playlist or just the band's profile? Of course the best thing would be to test all these options, but our budget doesn't allow for too much experimenting :/ Thanks a lot Andrea
I've actually started using more feed placements as well which can drop the cost further depending on the song, but for a while stories were performing best, and I think its because by default stories are played with sound already on and feed ads the sound is off. Typically I push a song when the song is brand new, and in between songs I direct traffic to my profile.
Hey thanks for the info. Super easy watch! Your a good educator. Curious your thoughts of uploading a new song, album, to sound cloud or any free streaming service if your end goal is Spotify?
mr andrew. So if you send people to spotify (which can be done with URL redirector/pixel), it opens the webplayer. From what I gather though, the user needs to listen to more than 30 seconds for a stream to be counted. So even if you get mad cheap cost per click, if those people dont actually like it or want to hear, its a waste of money right?
Exactly. Thats why I use the Hypeddit landing page, if someone goes through two clicks to hear the song they're probably very interested in actually listening to the song. If you send traffic to either a bad song, or send the wrong people to it, you're actually hurting the song because it increases your skip rate. The nice thing about my type of ads is people only make it to Spotify if they're already invested into hearing the song.
Thank you so much for this video! I will follow your method because lately I haven’t been getting good results with FB ads...and I realized that it was because I click on traffic instead of conversion 😅 For the smart link, does it work with Snipfeed? Looking forward to your answer. Thank you.
Never heard of snipfeed so I’m not sure. As long as you can track conversions and set up a custom domain it would work. Most people use ToneDen or hypeddit.
Hi Andrew, how long does it take Spotify to show stats on the daily? I am looking at my Google Analytics data on the conversion link clicks for Jan 27, shows 147 conversions to the the Spotify link, however Spotify shows I only received 3 streams. My facebook custom conversion pixel is showing 206. I am having a hard time interpreting which data is accurate. Any help's appreciated, thanks!
Hey Daniel, thanks! I'm using Hypeddit because they let you embed the Facebook Pixel on the conversion. On the Hyperlink you can embed a Pixel, but you can't use it to track when someone clicks to go to Spotify. I've already talked to my contact at DistroKid and recommended they add some type of feature like this, hopefully they add it! Aside from that Hyperfollow is a fantastic tool to put in your social media links, and emails to fans. Its just not as efficient on ads.
I have to say i love those videos about ads for Spotify etc. I guess you didnt do any sepparation based on tiers of the countries but you target them based on artist genre? Based on your experience if we were doing ads for jbalvin latin kind of song what would you think would be Best plan for the ad? To Target the genre or the tier of coutries? Thanks a lot!!
Wow - after 1.5 months after the release I calculated roughly how many times someone who came from a facebook ad listened to my song. Currently they listened 7.5 times to it... thats pretty awesome. The number still grows, maybe I can reach a point where I get my money back

@@AndrewSouthworth I understand, it's more powerful with conversions, Thx Andrew 🙏
Andrew Southworth why do you think it worked better when you used a landing page instead of sending the users directly?
Thanks!
Andrew, where do you find your spotify tracking data ? I suck at finding how to export datasheets like yours, Thx
On Spotify for Artists the data is there. Everyday I manually enter the data into my own spreadsheet, since you can’t see saves over time on a chart. Is that what you mean?
@@AndrewSouthworth Haa you do it manually ! that's why I didn't find export button on Spotify
Thanks dude! I appreciate that, glad you're getting a lot of value out of them. Also thanks about the music :D
Andrew Southworth haha you’re welcome bud :) I’ve been shouting about you to my peers!
Have a lovely day! X
Thank you so much for sharing this! Super helpful!
hi friend , im a new subscriber , been watching your nice videos , i subbed today ,,,,,, i have a question,, so i want to release my first original album, so my question is, what do you suggest will work better, ,,,,,,Should i promote the album with the already released Link?? , or should i promote the Pre-save link i get from my distributor??? hope to hear from you soon.
It can be good to do a pre-promotion to get some pre-saves before the album launches, it also helps you do some audience research to find which audiences like the track best. Then when the album launches you'd stop the pre-save campaigns and go to already released links.
@@AndrewSouthworth nice, would you give that service for your subscribers?
I'm getting a lot of clicks in my ad but they aren't actually translating to plays on Spotify. I don't know what I'm doing wrong :(
The same here. I think when iOS 14 has entered it rules into force to privacy and targeting audience this may affect conversion ads in some way.
Awesome content as always, so much in dept information !
Thank you for this, one day I had 150 clicks on a landing page for platforms and no clicks to the music platforms. By splitting up ads and doing links straight through to the music I know all the link clicks are going to the music.
im lost , how to set up facebook pixel to hype smart link ? do you have any video explain it ? i could not find it :) thnx
Hey bro you should list all platforms all platforms paid differently some pay more
Great video man! Love this strategy!
Hey Brandon, thanks man! Hope you see success with it.
Great video !!! Did you also set the ad on FB stories?
Yeah I used all story placements for this. Although 95% or more ends up showing on IG, it sometimes finds cheap results on FB or Messenger stories.
Loved this strategy Andrew!
Would be next level if they had a "audience behavior" of ppl who frequently save/follow on spotify
I think this the best marketing / music channel on UA-cam. Others talk but just talk you talk knowledge and show it too. Good stuff
Thanks dude I appreciate that! Glad you’re enjoying the channel 🙌
Andrew Southworth for sure 🔥 keep making these types of videos . Always trying to learn new marketing ways/ techniques
@@AndrewSouthworth thanks Andrew. I will try the multiple ad strategy. Thank you for your help. 🙏🙏🙏
@@AndrewSouthworth do you have to leave it up for a few days to get the cost down. I set up the multiple ad sets and still averaging around $.50
Hey Andrew great video!! I'm a little confused on how you set up the conversion event for the hypeddit smart link click, how did u activate the event??
Same !!
He did a video about how to do the pixel with TonDen, i recommend just using ToneDen instead. I hope Andrew starts exclusively using ToneDen from now on
@@MiKEY_SANZ Yes I saw it ! Thanks!
@@MiKEY_SANZ toneden can do this process for free right??
@@MiKEY_SANZ Guys I need help with this. I am confused. Anyone keen to help me?
Thanks Hampton! I try to get to the point when I can haha.
my toneden link just saws viewcontent as the event for the FB pixel. anyway to change the name of a general event like that to be like yours "Hypped it link click"
Did you crunch all that data in the spreadsheet yourself? Or is most of it available on Spotify for Artists?
This guy gives the best marketing advice
thank you for the valuable content you're putting out there!
Bro I’m not gon lie. I spent a lot of bread 🍞 tryna get the type of gems you droppin 🙏🏾, Big Blessings 💯 👑
Andrew, you just gained yourself a subscriber. This is some of the most informative, well thought-out, and useful content around this topic I've found on the internet. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us publicly. I have a single release coming up next month and will certainly be approaching it with this strategy.
Hey Justin, thanks for joining the channel! Glad you found it helpful, hope you get the same results i'm getting.
Thank you so much for this!!
Can you customise the Hypeddit url link so it looks more custom to you/your song? I swear linkfire and some others do this
You can't, although i've never had an issue with the URL.
It might take like 30 minutes to show up.
bro your channel is so so helpful and genuine. I'm signing up to Hypeddit right now and follow all your steps. Thank you!
7:01 - so If i use KUJI will i sit get this same option ?
Wow, man. Have watched quite a few of your videos and THANKS for that! I watch other channels like Damian Keyes or Burstimo, which are also great. What I love here is the real STUFF! Showing step by step how you do things. I get the feeling I recieved something I can take and put straight to use. Absolutely love this! That is NEXT LEVEL.
ok but in term of money what is the return invest ?
This isn't the type of ad you make money on, at least not in the short term. This is top of funnel fan acquisition. I should probably make some videos on this, but there are other methods you would use to actually profit from music.
You CAN profit from these types of ads if you trigger algorithmic activity, but you should expect to run these types of ads at a loss.
@@AndrewSouthworth ok thank a lot for the quick response
Hey Andrew, love the videos man. As a new artist, who knows little to nothing about ads and promotion, I definitely appreciate it!
Thanks dude, glad you're getting a lot out of the videos!
dude I’m learning lots from your channel, I’m really glad I put aside that your music isn’t necessarily for me but the info you have is immensely valuable, you’re doing amazing work. Gonna save up to support you in some way and return the reciprocity
I use SMARTURL (which is a free service) , as opposed to hyped it , but what’s the difference between the two? Is one more beneficial? 🤔
I don't know if SmartURL supports custom domains or the use of Pixels in the way you'd need it on their free service (or their paid service). If you're looking for a free option i'd just use ToneDen.
@@AndrewSouthworth dope man thanks for the response ! Much appreciated
I will try your FB ad approach next.
awesome stuff, brother
Thank you!
Very nice video! I seen you have playlist too. Can I send you a demo to your playlist?
Thanks dude! I have a few decent sized playlists haha. Usually I try to keep all music submissions to SubmitHub, but i've seen you on my channel several times so you can just DM me on IG or send to my email address (andrew@generastudios.com).
No promises on if it makes it on, but I will check it out and if its a good fit i'll add it!
Andrew Southworth you are welcome! Yeah I tried out ads technic on my new ep. I started to run those with little daily budget. This conversion is very cool! 🙏🏻
Thanks for the great information Andrew. Have you heard of toneden? it lets you create landing pages just like hypedit with pixels and everything for free.
it doesn't look is free at the moment
idk why fb is charging me with Impressions ??
So I should target fans of other artists?
Great video dude! I remember watching your how to scream videos years ago, happy you still make such a good content! Keep it coming! 🤘🏻
Hey Andrew should I make the Languages section to English(All) and enable Detailed Targeting Expansion or not ?
Yeah I turn on english (since my music is in english). Turn off detailed targeting expansion. Sometimes it can help, but other times it hurts performance. I always have it off when I initially make the ad, then later i'll test adding it to new ad sets.
You better sing! I loved the little snippet of your ad where you were singing over your song. You sounded great! The song sounds great too! Thanks for all the valuable information! ~Alicia T.
Thanks Alicia! Yeah I do sing in most of my songs. If you hear a man's voice in my music, with the exception of Chains and Neutron, its me.
just curious, was this campaign for a relatively new song, like starting the day it released? wondering on the time-frame of the "newness" for getting momentum rolling like you did!
@@AndrewSouthworth oops, might be a little too late for me & my latest release then lol. but thank you, really helpful to know the time-sensitivity!
Killed it again, thanks!
Thanks Kyle! Hope it helped you out.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with fellow musicians
Hey man! How are you? Are you able to tell how to exactly link the Facebook pixel to a landingpage like toneden!? Mine is not working correctly (at all) and therefor I’m not able to run the conversion ads. Hope to hear from you man
For ToneDen you copy your Pixel ID into the ToneDen link in the settings, and then in your ads you just use the View Content conversion event (in the ad set is where you add it).
how many pre saves did you have?
I think around 30 presaves, not too many.
Excelente 🙌💯
great content, thanks a lot for sharing! but i always gotta keep remember me that the main goal is to create great music, otherwise every promotion won't help...
Does linktree work just as well to track a conversion?
I'm not sure if they have conversion tracking or not. I'm almost certain their free version does not, but their paid version MIGHT. I'd just use ToneDen or Hyperfollow if you're looking for a free version, and I have videos showing how to set up both of them.
@@AndrewSouthworth I truly appreciate your reply 🙏🏼 Thanks a lot, your channel has some amazing content!
7.43 Hi Andrew. I'm using toneden for this process as suggested by you. When I get to this part of the process I don't see custom conversion event. Any chance you could tell me what I might be doing wrong, or if I'm even supposed to see that option here for toneden?
Okay,
How do you create ad campaigns with ad campaigns?
Any help?
Another epic tip! Thanks, Andrew
I have a question though, when I
see tracking campaigns with links to Spotify songs, the data from FB is
WAY higher than that from Spotify. Let's say FB is reporting a thousand
clicks to a song on Spotify and Spotify shows only 20+ streams of that
song during that same period I'm wondering what could be happening?
Tell about your SKIP RATE please?
You can't actually see your skip rate unfortunately.
@@AndrewSouthworth actually you can. My distributer shows me this information at the largest 4 playlists. I believe that in the Spotify Analytics you can see it. But it's required a label account.
I thrive for getting my Band going after some awful musician changes. Your content is Gold for that. Thank you for all information and pure value you put out to us.
thanks so much for this video. May i ask, how do you create a conversion event for your hypeddit smart link click?
I couldn't understand this too... Would be awesome a video on that!
You're gonna love tonight's video!
Dude. For the life of me I cannot figure out how to create a pixel event with Hypeddit. I entered my pixel ID in my Smart Link, but in Ads Manager I have no idea how to create an event for hypeddit. Where do I paste the pixel code in Hypeddit? Thanks!
Does anyone know if Andrew does retainers to run ads for other Artists??
Thank you for such valuable info! In the video you mention you selected all Spotify countries for this ad. Did you exclude any, particularly countries where ads are cheaper so they don’t eat the cost or did you not worry about that for this ad?
Thanks Alice! I only exclude India from the list, but sometimes i'll put them in their own Ad Set with a budget cap. Sometimes Brazil gets out of control so I sometimes also separate that.
@@AndrewSouthworth thank you for your response!
Loving your content! How long do you make the ad (do you make a full 60 second ad or just 15 seconds since it’s for a story)? Thanks again!
Amazing breakdown and insight. Thank you Andrew
Hey Nico, thanks so much! Glad you found this helpful.
hey dude! thanks so much for your videos - I've watched them religiously this year and they've been so helpful. quick question though - have you ever encountered this method not working? i.e. getting lots of new listeners and not spiking the algorithm? has worked well for us this year and assumed it would be similar on our new single. ads have pulled in around 800 listeners in week 1 and running at about 40% save rate but not seeing much of a spike a week after release.
I work in web advertising, so no probelm for me to set up campaigns and such.. but since we want to start some microscopic promotion for my band I have a couple of quesitons:
- Why would you recommend stories over PPL or Video ads on the FB feed? (I ask because you can use those organic posts as ads, but you can't with stories)
- Would you recommend pushing a song, a playlist or just the band's profile?
Of course the best thing would be to test all these options, but our budget doesn't allow for too much experimenting :/
Thanks a lot
Andrea
I've actually started using more feed placements as well which can drop the cost further depending on the song, but for a while stories were performing best, and I think its because by default stories are played with sound already on and feed ads the sound is off.
Typically I push a song when the song is brand new, and in between songs I direct traffic to my profile.
Hey thanks for the info. Super easy watch! Your a good educator. Curious your thoughts of uploading a new song, album, to sound cloud or any free streaming service if your end goal is Spotify?
Hey brother whats the best way to reach out to you?
Brother your videos have inspired me to do a total 180 on music promo. I was about to pay a playlist pusher and now I feel like I have a real plan.
Hey Andrew! Great video! Why are you using Hypeddit landing page vs. just the Distrokid hyperlink landing page?
The number still grows, maybe I can reach a point where I get my money back
This is such great info. I really appreciate you sharing this!
