You single-handedly carry indie music education. Can't count how many times your name has popped up when talking with other emerging artists. Keep it up man!
Hey, just want to thank you for taking the time to explain this so well. This playbook has been working for us even though we are still dialing things in.
Thanks so much Andrew! Not only for the very clear instructions, but for the pep talks while dealing with the clunky Meta platform. So helpful. We set up our first set of Meta ads. Fingers crossed!
Hey Andrew. so once finished creating the ad sets and you're ready to upload to start the campaign. should you upload all of the ad sets together at once or 1 at a time through out the week?
Just in time! I am planning to release some singles leading up to an album for 2025. I was thinking of hiring your agency but maybe another go at doing meta ads myself will work. I tend to get .80 and up per conversion. I think it's just my ads itself, they're just the artwork but animated. I was also maybe thinking of going for consultation if i'm stuck.
I read a really good book by a Spotify artists called Jend. It’s called the independent artist blueprint or something like that. It’s only like 150 pages and it was the best read of my life. Before I was getting like 4$ per conversion and now I get like 20-30 cents. It also has a lot of other marketing strats that are pretty useful too. I would really recommend that book rather than paying someone else to do your ads if you’re really serious about it
Hey Andrew, my last campaign went really well. thank you for the guidance. about using three different videos, I did that. However, I found that Facebook ads only used one of them. It’s got all the hits while the other two were not really used at all. I’m very pleased with the results of my ad campaign over the last year. However, I feel like the use of that one video over the other two by Facebook was pretty random. I’m looking forward to the ad campaign for my next single However, I feel like I can go into it just as confidently with one well produced video snippet. it’s simply more work producing three, high-quality video snippets and I don’t feel like it’s worthwhile. let me know your thoughts. Thanks again!
This is so very helpful. Thank you! Question about the formatting of the video ad. Do you have guidelines a template you can share as to where the video in a frame should be lined up so that it works in both Reels and Feeds? I like the idea of one format that works for all but not sure how to line things up.
Ty, Andrew, I watched just in case there were any major changes :D hug, kiss on the nose \m/ I recently joined a music marketing school in hopes of getting the full picture of how the music artist business should look like. Was a bit dissappointed cuz it's basically facebook ads and email marketing (they didn't even have the module on how to collect the list :< ). Man I wish some good person created a video like "this is how your artist music business should look like". Probably gonna work 1 on 1 with some1 to close the gap.
Thank you Andrew. Your channel saved me. I need your help please I followed your directives and set ads for my song It's getting link clicks and page views but none of the streams and views have reflected on Spotify. It's getting link clicks and page view but Spotify listeners and number of streams is not changing. Number of streams on Spotify remains the same What course be the cause? I would deeply appreciate your response
I had the same problem. It all started last summer and since that I get zero streams. Spotify's earnings are going down the hill and it's been already years like this so I don't see any reasonable reason why would they pay us (independent artists). Every sales man cares about him and his family first, not about strangers and that's okay I guess
Yeah! Although I wouldn't use the EP / Album link, instead use a track link that's on the EP/Album. The EP/Album links do not autoplay, but track links do.
@AndrewSouthworth, following along step by step & when I get to the multiple ads section around 15:00, when I duplicate I am not given the option to delete the existing video & add new video. Any advice?
A few reasons! 1: Spotify overall has the best music discovery mechanisms through their algorithmic playlists. It exists on UA-cam, but it's much harder and much more rare to get traction, and it requires a great music video. 2: Spotify actually pays royalties, UA-cam requires 4,000 watch time hours and 1,000 subscribers before you make any money from your channel. 3: You actually still get results on Apple Music, UA-cam, UA-cam Music etc from these campaigns. Even though Spotify is the focus, people spill over into pretty much all your other DSPs.
Because the main idea is to get Spotifys algorithm promoting the song for you. UA-cam’s algorithm is not as good, doesn’t pay as much, and 80% of everyone’s streams come from Spotify so they’re still dominate the market.
Hey Andrew, every time when I run Spotify Facebook ads campaign I get clicks, but not actual listens on Spotify. I used Toneden and Facebook pixel. I targeted places you recommended and my country is Poland (I rap in polish). What could go wrong? I can't see any growth in listeners, last time I run campaign for 7 days, 10zł budget per day. I heard about this problem when you target countries like India, but what can I do if my target is my country and it has no sense to promote in other countries? Salute!
By the way I remember when I promoted album in 2022 with your methods and had actually pretty nice results. I had been on spotify curator playlist for about 3 songs, so like 3 months. Thank you for content and information you spread 💯💯💯
Do you know if the new spotify for creators means you can only post podcasts because I'm seeing other types of content that are not podcasts like austin evans and Corridor Crew videos on spotify.
Thanks for this video, it's really helpful. Just wondering, can you use the results from your campaign to generate lookalike audiences? And is it worth using lookalike audiences, or would the results not improve much?
Hey Andrew, just read your book. Thanks for the resource! QQ - Do you have a video where you detail how to do this if you haven’t yet released the song you plan to promote? The videos I’ve seen you put out for this topic have all been with already released songs, and not future releases. Thanks.
So unfortunately I set this whole thing up while in my personal Facebook page, not my business page. Is it possible to transfer them to my business page?
Thank you so much Andrew may the lord bless you Just wanna ask, my song got taken down after doing playlist pitching now i wanna do full meta ads for my songs, is this a good idea? Just do meta ads only ? Pls help me out
Hey Andrew! I found that it's quite hard to target more specific audiences with similar artists because Meta doesn't show those artists in the interests window. For example Jacob Collier. What should I do if those artists who represent me best, aren't existing in Meta?
Hi Andrew, thank you for this information! I just tried to run my first ever FB ad and found some problems. First of all, when I only choose IG placements i get an error saying that i need to have atleast 6 placements (i can't choose stories, reels, feeds and explorer as my only options), do you know why this is a problem? Also when i have 10usd as daily budget, there is errors saying i have to largen my audience (when i have 8-12 million audience reach), how come this is a problem? As always thank you for the great information! Keep it up :)
hi andrew, do you have any thoughts on using companies like symphonyOS? they setup your ads automatically for you and adjust as time goes. Also is 7 dollars a conversion high for the learning stage if im only targeting specific cities and not countries? Thanks!
Ads take money, but they take little time. Building a multi-million follower meme page costs no money, but in most cases this would be a nearly full time job for someone (or several people) for years to build something like this. Nobody 'just' builds a multi-million follower social media page, that takes a HUGE investment of either time or money. Plus, it has no guarantee of working after that massive investment. I've met dozens of people with millions of followers on socials and less than 5,000 monthly listeners. Some even built their socials with music content that involves them, never mind a faceless meme page. Not saying your strategy wouldn't work. But it's definitely not a reliably replicable process that a large enough fraction of artists could possibly follow to bother mentioning.
Please answer. With a $10 daily budget, you recommend starting at that level and then dialing it down later. What do you think the overall budget should be to ensure I almost certainly recoup my investment through streaming revenue?
A good cost per event is like 0.25, a stream doesn't even get you a cent, you're only going to make money from streaming if the ads triggers spotifys algo in a massive way
Does your company run ads for different genres of music? And if so, do you find that some genres of music are generally more expensive than others to run ads for? Metal vs EDM, for example.
Meta / FB ads, by a long shot unfortunately. This type of campaign doesn’t really work in google ads most of the time, and if it does it’s usually 5-10 times more expensive.
Often I do both! Meaning i'll have some ad sets for artists, other ad sets for genres. Sometimes i'll even have hobbies, films, video games, etc. It's good to try different things and see how they go.
Wasted some bucks with FB ads for my Grammy campaign. Stupid Spot or Rover or Fido or whatever it is demands 1000 plays just to get a number, useless. And then they would NOT shut it off, cost me 50 bucks for nothing.

Why everyone is always targeting Spotify instead of UA-cam (which is accessible to anybody, no sign up needed).
A few reasons!

So unfortunately I set this whole thing up while in my personal Facebook page, not my business page. Is it possible to transfer them to my business page?
Unfortunately no. There isn't a way to transfer stuff between ad accounts as far as I know, you'd have to re-do it in the business.
Thanks for this Andrew! What's a good CPC? I'm currently getting $0.23 ffm clicks.

Or just build a multi million follower meme page and convert followers to your playlist for free. Ads cost money. Memes are free to post.

What's the difference between engagement conversion campaign and sales conversion campaign?
how long should the video ad last?
Does your company run ads for different genres of music? And if so, do you find that some genres of music are generally more expensive than others to run ads for? Metal vs EDM, for example.
How I set up a one on one conversation
Whats better to promote spotify with landing pages ? Fb ads or google ads ? As im more familiar with google ads
Meta / FB ads, by a long shot unfortunately. This type of campaign doesn’t really work in google ads most of the time, and if it does it’s usually 5-10 times more expensive.
*Help* can't find pixel: Data sources says - No data sources. And overview wants me to "connect data" which only connects to "apps"
Solution: you shouldn't have a pixel yet and will make one at a later stage.
New prob: Under Set up conversion tracking - choose a conversion - do I choose track conversions with standard event, or track custom conversions?
My ads were muted because FB detected copyrighted music - my own music. How do I tell FB that it should be ok?
I don't have a facebook account. Would hiring your team to run ads for me be a workaround, or do I still need a facebook page?
How many streams per dollar, is a good goal for a campaign like this?
Instead of bands for detailed targeting, couldn’t you just put the genre “metalcore” “hardcore” “rock” etc
Often I do both! Meaning i'll have some ad sets for artists, other ad sets for genres. Sometimes i'll even have hobbies, films, video games, etc. It's good to try different things and see how they go.
