Insane that he will likely never be matched in basically any way never mind speed wise and technically, but the man could just play more tastily and with more soul than anyone else too. Literally just the best electric guitarist that will probably ever live.
All I have to say is: I was there. . . Shawn was an amazing and legitimately nice guy. What a wonderful recording. This was a seminal event in my musical journey. It was magical. Paul is a SUPER nice guy too... we spoke for about an hour during the show what a memory. Thanks for posting this. What a show that was.... we scored Dean Markley VIP ALL ACCESS passes and were back stage meeting everyone, Satriani, Via, Gilbert, Lane, Winger, and other Hair Band Royalty. Simply the best. . glad I found this.
I’ve been listening to this song since Napster days...this has the greatest live solo (on any instrument) I’ve ever heard. Paul gets excited playing and singing...and then when Shawn lets loose I would love to have that kind of bravery, it isn’t perfect but even it’s obvious it falls short after some amazing bends...the rebound is glorious, he rebuilds and collects the ideas and then takes the lead into the stratosphere and ain’t afraid to go for it, letting loose and it energizes seemingly the whole crowd by the end. Just balls out awesome
LOL Napster, I haven't heard that word in a while. After that came Audiogalaxy. Yea, Napster is when I first heard Shawn Lane also. Then I started getting his albums. What a period.
I’ve played with a few musicians over the years, and Shawn’s lack of distortion tells me he is legit. I mean who doesn’t know that by now... but with his tone as is in this recording, a lot of guitarists would ask for more distortion just to accentuate the notes a little, (since distortion is essentially like a compressor) and to me that’s fine! But Shawn’s ability to have clear pick attack and finger strength in his legato to have each note sound with clarity is astonishing. This recording really demonstrates his dynamic control. He is a musical genius. Even Paul Gilbert is a master in dynamics when it comes to guitar playing. So the two combined with so much knowledge, so much passion for the instrument and a sense of comradeship/chemistry (because of their label at the time) makes this performance unbelievable. R.I.P. Shawn Lane

Well said. You can see the wear spots on the fingerboard where most guitar players stay and play, Shawn Lane's fingerboards were uniformly worn. He played the whole damn thing.
Shawn is a literal alien-probably the most technically skilled guitarist of all time. And this has got to be one of the best solos ive ever heard. But he definitely has a fair amount of gain in his tone here, which sounds awesome!
Paul Gilbert on Shawn lane, Most terrifying guitar player. I seen UA-cam video years ago interviewer asked Shawn lane if shawn had to pick one artist for listening (for the of his life) Shawn said that’s hard question to answer. Far as i'm concerned they are the undisputed hands down all time #1 and 2 for just pure technical prowess/efficiency/clean ultra hyper shred speed/ etc, and the fact Lane prime for prime can actually play faster than a prime like 85 Gilbert especially with his physique and much smaller hands is absolutely absurdly amazing stuff! though gilbert isnt super far off id say Lane was anywhere from 5-12 percent faster then even gilbert!.
It’s amazing how Shawn never flies off the rails when most other “great” guitarists would lose it. I love when players push their limits and I’m always forgiving of players pushing it and sometimes losing it. In fact I love it, but Shawn just goes and goes and each time just when you thought he went “god mode” he goes a little further. Oh…and it’s all musical! Total beauty!

Don't be silly.
@@ukefan9 It’s the truth
@@Johnnysmithy24 Shawn's playing here is gorgeous, but this pretty diddly widdly stuff would melt within ten feet distance of even the first bend in Jimi's solo. Just my opinion.
If you say this is better, then it is, because in a world of billions of people, everyone's got an opinion, and maybe there's not such a thing as 'the greatest'.
@@ukefan9 Of course it’s my opinion. And I love Machine Gun it’s one of my favorite solos. I believe that Shawn here shows a way better display of melody than Hendrix ever did and combined it with insane levels of technicality. My heart raises everytime I hear this solo
@@Johnnysmithy24 mine too 😉
I hope Sean’s guitars are in some type of guitar museum because no other mortal man shall touch the instruments of a god… rest in peace he left us too soon.
Who's doing the singing? It's really good!
frethouse Paul Gilbert
At 3:50 of this video, I began to take a journey that I did not see coming. That was the nastiest thing I ever heard from a guitar...I mean just...what? What happened? Where am I? Do it again...
Shawn Lane was channeling god through his fingers until the end.
Is that Paul singing or Shawn?
Paul
Who was singing
Paul G?
Not an easy song to sing!
Paul m is one of the greatest singers ever
these 2 looked majestic in these photos
paul gilbert
Is put to shame by shawn lane
@Nick Martin they are amazing im just kinda partial to Shawn because my dad lived in Memphis in the 80s and was good friends with shawn.
The magic begins at 3:57
Looks like Nick Jonas And Lil Wayne better start practicing
Who IS the singer?
Paul Gilbert
@@spock84 u just dont get it
@@Trombosilbo And neither did many others, apparently. So, what is there to get exactly? Your question is pretty straight forward, and in the context of this recording there's just one singer we could be talking about. We don't all have the same frame of reference, you know. Either way, sorry for trying to help you out.

Hi
I knew that first solo wasn’t Paul, in 1993 he would have shredded way much more!!😂 It was a great solo though.
No Nick Jonas but he was pretty good
Paul MCartney și cu George Harrison ar fi geloși pentru improvizația făcută de Shawn Lane...Shawn Lane Dumnezeu al chitării in lume...RIP😇🙏😥🎸🎸🎸
I like George Harrison's solo better, lol
still prefer Paul. more character and entertainment and (almost) approachable style.
like butter....steel titanium diamond butter.
