    What about those of us who are older? I'm 52 and my period is almost non-existant. Most months, I don't even have one. (Also, Maya, 39 is NOT "late in life"! You're still SUPER young! Heck, I didn't have my last baby till I was 45! With no fertility clinic help, either. Completely natural conception! He's 7 now. I had my 2nd baby at 41, almost 42. Also a natural conception. So, 39 is just the beginning of life!)

      I read that when you don't have a cycle anymore, i.e. when you're in menopause, you should follow the 28-day cycle of the moon. I am not menopausal yet. So I have not been able to verify that.

    Love your advice but from someone who has read Dr. Mindy Pelz book Fast Like A Girl what you are saying is opposite. She is very clear that the science shows women need carbs and to eat more carbs the week before your period to build projesterone. But the week of your period your body can handle lower carb but to raise carbs again right before and during ovulation then you can lower them again till about a week before your period. I'm personally going to stick with her advice as she is the leading expert on fasting and carb cycling for women's hormones. Although all women should listen to their body's first and foremost.

      7 days after your period is ovulation time hence the follicular phase

    Mom made me chicken liver adobo when I was anemic. Filipino adobo is when you braise meat in a blend of water, vinegar, soy sauce, onion, garlic, black pepper, and a Bay Leaf. It is delicious but I grew up eating mostly Filipino food. I read on a Bullet Proof forum that a man lost a lot of weight doing low carb six days and going slightly higher carbs on the seventh day.

    I'm 52 YO and just recently learned about one of the phases because I'm in peri-menopause. I started seeing a naturopathic doctor because my PCP & GYN don't talk about these things. My naturopathic doctor was way more helpful with me to understand the changes my body is going through. Thank you, thank you for sharing this valuable information!

      Then you should actually do carb cycling. There is such a thing. That time has long passed for me too almost 10 years ago.

    Chicken livers are very mild tasting. Straight up beef will work well during that time. Love ground beef just about anyway. Tacos, burritos, burgers, I even used to make Beef Stroganoff with ground beef instead of sirloin.

      For women without a cycle, it is recommended to follow the 28-day moon cycle, although I have not been able to verify that as I have not reached menopause yet

    Im 65 years old and had a partial 20 years ago hysterectomy. Once a month I swear I go thru a horrible 2 day sweet craving just like before I had my surgery when I was close to that day of the month. What can I do about the carbs and that craving once a month???

    I was told the Follicular phase starts the first day of your menstrual cycle. So I Googled it just now and Google says the same thing. 🤔

    I love liver, its all about how you cook it and the seasonings. My mom makes it with onions as well. It just has a different kind of texture, but its good

      I'm 66 and I only have a carb or more on holidays 1 or 2 times a year otherwise Carnivore. I lost 200 lbs but need 100 or 80 more off.

    Dr Mindy Pelz has a you tube and book on something similar to what you mention. This should be taught to young women to understand how their bodies work..so very important! Good tip for the extra iron! Luver and crramis a winnfor me. 😂❤

    Another way to cook beef liver is to cut it very thin and fry so It's crispier, and, of course with plenty of onions. I love liver of any kind, but that's how I had to cook it for my family to eat it.

    interesting cos I heard from other nutritional doctors and nutritionist specialising in keto that women usually need more carbs during the premenstrual period not the follicular phase.... in order to support progesterone and actually I personnaly need more carbs during the premenstrual period too.... it is confusing to receive conflicting information.....

    Love this! Dr. Pelz book, fast like a girl is THE book and honestly should be given to every girl once she starts menstruating, not like me who is learning most things midlife. Also learned that iron can still be low if there is not enough copper, the main cofactor and harder to get, even heavy red meat and organ eaters can be low in iron. I learned about copper when I started supplementing with zinc for another reason, but needed it as a cofactor. 😊

      I love Dr. Pelz book as well but what this woman says in this video in regards to when to eat carbs is complete opposite of what Dr. Pelz says in her book. Also please be careful about telling people to supplement copper. Virtually no one should actually take copper in the form of a supplement and should always test their zinc, copper, and ceruloplasmin before taking any copper supplement. I took a copper supplement in the form of chlorophyll just at the rda recommended dose. At first I felt great. Eventually it destroyed my health and my life not exaggerating. It tanked my thyroid, adrenals, all hormone levels and destroyed my brain so much I could barely function. Thank God I figured out what I did and how to fix it thanks to Dr. William Walsh's work and book Nutrient Power. Maybe consider reading his book and getting bloodwork done before supplementing with copper. I never want what happened to me to happen to anyone else!

      @@epierce4770 so good to know about book and thank you. I should have mentioned through food sources, I get my copper from my favorite oysters. Hopefully nobody is taking comments as medical advice, besides the fact that copper is needed to absorb iron, need to check levels for sure. My levels are checked and good just by adding the oysters. Another danger is having too much iron which is more common and can also be the result of not having enough copper. All can be very dangerous without proper medical attention. Like adding in organs like liver when iron levels are already high, is also dangerous. Tricky business for sure. So sorry for your experience and thanks again for sharing because you can help someone.

      What Myra is saying is opposite to what dr. Mindy teaches. Dr. Mindy says no fasting and to increase complex carbs the week before your period begins not 7 days after...

      Once your period starts ( day 1 is the day you start bleeding) that is a time to lean more into the ketobiotic lifestyle and you can do lots of cardio. Then day 10 -16 you need progesterone building foods. Back off from too much fasting ( no more than 15 hrs ) and lift weights. Day 16-20 you have another power phase . That's the time to bring glucose down again with ketogenic eating and exercise. Then day 20 ( the week before your period no fasting at all, more good carbs and lighter exercise like walking , hiking, stretching. This is Dr. Mindy's teachings

      You mean perimenopause? Menopause is when you've not had a period for 1 full year. There is no "early menopause".

    This video should be called How to eat for Your Menstrual Cycle. Because carb cycling is different.
    This is the definition of carb cycling. Carb cycling involves going back and forth between high-carb days and low-carb days. There may even be “no-carb” days. You would usually have a high-carb day when you plan on exercising hard.
    I appreciate her video however it could be misleading.

    Absolutely no knowledge of the four phases you just described. I did know about the iron Ridge liver liver is great. Sauté with onions gravy yummy over mashed potatoes or rice.

    While you’re on the right track, every woman should take a DUTCH test to see how their body metabolizes hormones, especially estrogen, and also a hair mineral test (magnesium plays a key role). Did mine last year at 41. Life-changing. Your regular doctor knows nothing about this.

    0:42 if you are trying to lose weight, it absolutely doesn't matter when, where or how much carbs you are eating, because in terms of weight loss all that matters is your body's energy balance. If a low carb diet allows you to stick to a calorie deficit easier, than sure go for it, but as long as calories and protein intake are equated it does not matter if you are low or high carb
