This really helped, I shorted a mobo about 9 years ago and got traumatised from it so I have been using those expensive pc building services since then. Now that I have put myself together to build my own NASA PC again, this information here will be priceless.

Thanks a lot for this very helpful video, I would add that the right screw tip is T10
So thats what those socket bits were for
You can just use a spanner/socket for these since theyre hex shaped.
No need for pilers
my pliers just slip off

A 3/16 socket fits well
The standoff on my motherboard is too tight, not even pliers can take it off !

what if the stand of did come along with the motherboard when unscre it

Unfortunately, my standoffs are round in the case and the hex on the back is embedded in the metal panel so not accessible. I'm now stuck as I can't remove them 😢

Well, I won't offer the insult you suggested, but what I'm trying to do is to find out how to add a mounting post where no hole currently exists in the case. I don't think you can fix that with a pair of pliers!
Ah yes, well that is a completely different issue! It will be difficult to do because you'd have to space the hole out perfectly to fit whatever board you're installing. That said, you don't need a standoff for every hole on the board, just enough to hold it in place securely
When I fitted the current motherboard back in 2016, I had to use an angle grinder to extend the CPU cut-out in the case (a really nice one I found on the side of the road by the way). So I do believe I'll be able to tackle the relatively small job of adding a hole or two!
