oh my god....i was THIS close to order a micro atx case for my atx motherboard, i didnt know what it meant so i thought it was a trademark, thank you VERY much for pointing this out
I am not doing very good at building a pc it’s very frustrating
@@Twisterrz yes
@@Twisterrz but fun and once you're finished and IT BOOTS UP it's a feeling you can't match it
it's fine tho the case has to be bigger than the mobo but i guess i am late
@@therealspider843 Yeah lol, 6 months late, but I discovered that later on but thanks anyways.
That is the way things should be told. Short, clear and visualized. Perfect.

Simple, thorough, and quick. Thanks for posting this. Helps out for me being an A+ exam student and despite having built a computer a long time ago, I needed a refresher.
I'm here for the A+ too! lol

Thank you! Simple but really easy to follow man
LIFE SAVER THANK YOU. I WAS WONDERING WHY IT WASNT LINING UP
Me too, I was like a donkey for legit 20 min
Dude I love your stuff so much. Thank you for this
the way you explained the sizes of the motherboards is a life saver😂😮💨

@FormalGamer well that's weird advertising
@FormalDan weirdo
do you have to screw them in before you put your motherboard because I have 3 different screws two of them seem to fit but i don’t know which to use and there’s one that only has 4 when I need 9
1:25 So that's what that little bastard is for. Thanks. I think I actually used a wrench last time around I build a PC ~10 years ago. This screw made it a lot easier to mount the standoffs.
You sir are a brilliant man helped a noob install mobo
I cannot seem to put the standoffs in
I like your voice and i love your videos is very easy to understand from them.
First time I build a PC was back in the 80ties, last time 2022. I watched this video to be sure I had not forgotten how it was done.
I used to build XT motherboards ... standardization is a bless!!!! I love the AT standard!
Thank you very much for a great and simple tutorial
Do i have to remove standoffs I dont need on the case?
Ugh. I was hoping you'd go into where the case wires go. I have wires in my case that don't go to the PSU and I'm pretty sure one of them controls the power switch.
I've figured out the USB and audio ones (clearly labelled) and one is USB 3 which my old motherboard doesn't support. But I have a bunch if smaller one and two hole ones...
Oh well. At least I learned about standoff adapters. Some of my standoffs are further back and the screws won't reach, so this video did teach me something useful.
I wish you showed which screws
6-32 flat
love how you explain things its really help
hey, does it matter if I use standoffs that are scratched? I did it with a plier then once I was getting really really frustrated at myself (because using the plier is really annoying), I found that standoff adapter that came with the case 🙃 let's just say I'm really really happy :)))) So is it fine to still use these standoffs or do I have to get a new case or standoffs? I'm really sad I was looking right at it but it didn't look like the adapter. I looked at it so many times and after I was losing my cool I realised it was it :/ not my happiest moment
cheers mate, very helpful
I’m doing something different. I’m using an old box tv to make a gaming PC. What should I watch out for?
Everyone remembers the ATX, MAtx and ITX. But what about poor E ATX?
Seems to have gone the way of the dodo.

Great video, short and simple
So I finished my first build and I've been searching EVERYWHERE for answers as to why I didn't have power to my mobo. Watching this video made me realize I forgot the singular stand off for my case!! Did I just ruin my entire build?!?!?!? Thank you for the detailed video
Just one standoff was missing not all of them I take it? That won't make a difference to the PC powering on
@@Robtech could it be the PSU?
Did you connect the CPU power cable? At the top left corner of the motherboard?
No I think you have a dead mother board happened to me too ! Lol give us a update !! What was your issue
does damaging the paint on the standoff mess up anything
Nope
im currently having issues with this. Because of the standoff screws my motherboard wont line up with my io shield now. I don't want to remove my io shield but i dont want to have my motherboard screwed directly into the case either. What can i do to fix this issue??
Is the case new or used?
Does anybody know if it matters what type of screw that you use? I have the correct sizes for my case but it’s a zinc philips head screw and I know it has to be a metal conductor. Unfortunately my PC came with no screws as it was after market
Eazy & str8 to da point, thanks.
Very informative, thank you.
Perfect Job!! Thanks
I'm taking a dump well watching. 👍
All my parts came in today and i'm working on my case now, the case only came with 6 screws in total and only 2 of them fit into the motherboard. Do i need to buy the others, or am I setting it up wrong?
I didnt knew what the stadoffs were for and they were only 4 anyway, i removed them first then put my motherboard a month has passed nothing has fallen down, thoughts on if i should do something or this is alright. PLS REPLY
It’s fine if I don’t screw in one standoff right, I screwed in 8 just fine with pliers but last one just won’t seem to fit and keeps falling down when I try to screw it in with pliers, I’ll keep trying but if it doesn’t matter then I don’t want to waste my time
A lot of help, thank you
Hmmmm I'm gonna be in for a stressful time. But I'll get it.
i got some washers included with my m.b. do i use them or do they go on other screws ?
You forgot crucial part which is grounding yourself. Otherwise elctrostatic charge can kill sensitive electronics.
What make of tower is that? Thank you.

I came here because it's only nearly 3 minutes long😂
why does my motherboard work outside the case but when I put it in the case, there seems to be no power.
Two common causes if power cables connected properly. Something is shorting the board or the power switch isn't working. Standoffs that aren't properly seated can cause this.
So is it okay if my motherboard touches the standoffs when im trying to place it in my case?
I don’t have screws with the motherboard. So where would I find them?
They come with the case
Question. Scared to install motherboard. Do the standoffs damage the motherboard while you adjust it or am i overreating? (First pc build im scared lol).
No, unless you put a lot of downward pressure, its not going to get damaged.
@@Robtech thanks 👌
My case didnt come with Standoffs to put on, it looks like they came pre-installed in the case itself, I have raised pegs on it.
screw in with confidence
Hello i have a doubt, Mine is an ATX X570 mobo, it has 9 mounting point into three columns, now my dealer has used only the 1 and 2 column mounts which has the cpu, cooler and the GPU (total 6 mounts), now he has left the last column which has the three mounts as not used, is that a problem?, thing is in that area only motherboard 24 pin connector resides. will i get grounding problems?
Cheers
Hey, I have a current Cyberpower PC Desktop, and it has a AMD FX-6300 6 Core, AMD Rx 560, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 1tb HDD, 120gb SSD, and I'm not sure what my PSU is, I tried looking but cant find it, but anyway i was told if i want to upgrade to a significantly better CPU i would have to replace my entire Mobo and get new RAM, but i honestly want to avoid that, even though here i am still watching this video, but before i buy all these new parts and figure out how to piece them together. What i wanted to ask as an addition is that are there any other CPU's i can just simply upgrade to? you know to still get some extra juice without having to go full on with replacing everything? the FX-6300 is decent and all but i want to know if there's something i can still get that gives me considerably more power but still allows me to keep my mobo in and just simply put another DDR3 ram stick in instead of having to buy a whole new mobo, CPU, and 2 new DDR4 Ram sticks..
You could get a better FX CPU like the FX 8350, but I wouldn't recommend it. You really are better off even buying a cheap AM4 motherboard and an 1600AF, 2600 or an R3 3100/3300x. The difference would be huge including other benefits such as modern feature set and power efficiency gains. You could sell what you have to help fund it too. Plus you'll learn how to put your own PC together for the future which is a valuable skill.
@@Robtech Like sell my old parts?
And also my current budget is around 300$ atm as well, but maybe i could even sell the PC its self and just get a better overall system? I mean i did pay for it 500$ Retail but thats mainly cus it was a prebuild and they charge a good bit for that, unless it would just be 100% better to purely upgrade the parts
Yeah you can still get decent coin for the motherboard CPU and ram. That's also a good plan. Nothing as nice as building a new PC from scratch 😀
Hi! I'm buying a new motherboard and I don't have any standoffs anywhere, my case has his actual motherboard (which is the one I'm gonna replace) placed in right now with his standoffs, will I be able to use the same ones? They are both m atx
Sure can! Standoffs are reusable in the case.
Robtech still replying to comments what a legend
wee question, is it normal for my motherboard to be wiggling in my case, for what i can tell, by 1-2 millimetres? ive a wee bit of awareness on it, and dont seem to be having issues. is it also bad that i had to pull my case in a wee bit to screw in my card?
Not normal no. Shouldn't move at all once screwed in
I need help. If I dont have a standoff at a spot, should i just leave the motherboard hanging without screwing at that spot?
Yes, it's not best practice but it's ok
My io shield has metal sticking out of it and I can’t put my motherboard in
Do you need an adapter? Or can I just put the standard case stands on it?
Would have to order them separately
I screwed them in to far and now i have to pull out the thingies in the case that are out now if someone knows a good way to get them out would be nice
I feel like this didn’t help at all. I still have no idea what I’m looking at or what a standoff is even supposed to look like
sir i have screws but it doesn't have rubber. is it ok? if i use it for my motherboard? does it make grounded or short circuit?
because i saw someone using a rubber before applying the screws in their mobo stand offs?
sorry im a newbie in pc building. ty for the infos!
It's not needed. The motherboard screw holes are plated to prevent shorting.
Does every motherboard come with the correct slots for cables from the power supply?
Yep all standardized. The only thing you need to worry about is getting a power supply with enough wattage for your entire build and enough connectors for your graphics card.
There's also eATX but it's rare and expensive soo
Look I know this is a stupid question, but can you put an ATX motherboard into a Midi case
Yes. If you're ever unsure. Look in the specifications section of the case product page which will have the motherboard size compatibility
I put in a new graphics card and blew up my mother bored great help
This video isn't to install a new graphics card. You don't take the motherboard out for that
so i have a mid atx case and im using a atx mobo and it seems like i dont have room for fans at the top
My motherbpard isnt lining up with the standoffs and idk what to dooo 😩😩😩
I wanted to see how motherboard screws looks like, but that cant be seen in this video.
The thing is, my PC case came with one small bag full with screws and I dont know which one to use to screw my MB in.
Different ones are used by different brands and cases so it's best to check the manual. Most common one is this one qph.fs.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-1bed7f7305978b02c56587c92bb48862.webp
@@Robtech yea, I used them, mine are black tho, I mean, I went with system elimination, and the ones that fit perfectly were my choice, later on I found some ruber things, that I dont know on what to use them on, what are those?
They're usually for hard drives or SSD mounts to add some extra space in between. For hard drives they also absorb vibrations
Can i use any mATX case on MSI 520 mATX motherboard?
So the standoffs are in the case already and should just be moved around to fit the board?
Depends on the case. Most of the time they are, but some cases have none screwed in.
@@Robtech thanks, last night I put the board in place and didn't even think about risers till my friend mentioned it. I just checked real quick and the risers are in the case already. Now I'm just waiting to find a GPU lol
@robtech
can I just remove the standoffs from atx and out it in the matx layout instead of buying new ones
Sure can. Some of them will be in the right place already. You'll only need to move a few at most. You.can leave ones that aren't needed
what are the motherboard screws called? the ines that u connect the mother board to the case
Standoffs?
I bought a pre-build but the motherboard came with it and not in it.
Hi my pc case and motherboard doesn’t have any stand-off screws could I just line it up and screw it in ?
Must have standoff screws otherwise the board can short circuit. They can easily be bought online.
What if the case nor the motherboard came with the motherboard screws?
Where should I get some?
You'll need to buy some online or from a store that sells them. It's always the case that comes with the screws. The type of screws you need will be in the manual for the case, which you can look up on the case product page.
make sure u show this to the guy from the Verge so he can learn
Damn you beat me to mate
Well played. Hat off to you.
Is it normal that the motherboard doesn’t lineup with the holes of the front panel?
For centering I had to regulate with spacers and rise the back of the mobo from the center of the case
You need to use the empty spot on the back of your case for all of the usb and headphone jack slots
@@moosetits8332 I realize that I wrote "front panel", I meant "backplate", sorry for the misspell. The motherboard doesn't lineup with the backplate and now I need to use spacers to fix the problem.
@@frenkygnaka6361 yes it is normal you usually have one screw looking thing that you line up next to the back panel
My computer came with a micrp atx but on the websote it doesnt specify what type ot supports. I bought an atx befpre watching. If it doesnt say what ot supports should i assume i just bought the wrong size
You'll need an ATX case for an ATX board. Micro only fits micro ATX or Mini ITX.
@@Robtech saw a video of some guy fitting an atx into a micro atx case. Could i just move my psu a shit around
Sure you might be able to make it work if the power supply is placed somewhere else. Just not recommended. But depending on the case might be possible.
building a pc is easy they said
Dude ive spent 30 minutes wondering how to do this and i dont understand why my case has so many things sticking out. Where do i put it
i am in the same situation right now, did you figure it out?
okay so what if your mother board didn't come with screws..
the holes match up, but no screws
Case comes with screws, not the motherboard
@@Robtech my case didn't come with any either ;-;
New or used? New case usually has it tucked away somewhere
@@Robtech Brand new. I got it off newegg
you left out E-ATX
i need to remove my motherboard to change pc case but something at 1:49 in your video keep spinning when i try loosen screw?Any tips for me?Pls
Sounds like the standoff is being unscrewed from the case as well. Remove all the screws you can and then unscrew the one that keeps spinning until the standoff comes off the case. The standoff and screw will remain on the motherboard and you'll need to remove it as at 1:48.
@@Robtech tq i will try
You can use a nut driver or, if you don't have one, get a motherboard that will drive you nuts!!!
Is this motherboard compatible with a geforce rtx 2070 super 8gb graphics card???
The motherboard is compatible with all graphics cards. The only thing you need to check is the length of the card and if it fits in your case. Usually called "GPU clearance" in case specifications.
Me after watching this video: oh boy I really should have watched this BEFORE i tried to install a new mobo... Yes I fried 2 working mobos, including a new one. And before you ask, i forgot the damn standoffs
Touched back of motherboard
I- used the wrong screws...
Be careful of all the flaws in this video.

Im so damn stupid i build around 3 pc and now i do another one and i fucking remove all standoffs and placed te motherboard on and screwed in the thing i hope it isnt too late to fix this :(
My right middle screw is being a u know what cant get it in how long i screw
I feel you. i can’t get bottom in screw no matter how much I screw and un screw I was doing this for three hours.
But I think it’s because I bought cheap case.
Might be a problem with the standoff or screw. If you can, try replacing them if you have a spare.
Screws did not come with the motherboard
They come with the case
I have a question, can you answer it?
What's the question?
