- Metal Detecting at an abandoned silver mine for pounds of natural silver, under an old tree when others didn't think to dig. A longer video for me, so I hope you like it. I spent more time editing than detecting. hahaha

I love when you show us the natural state of Silver, you have taught me so much about metals, minerals and rocks.
I got tired of saying "this is a good rock, but it doesn't look like much dirty". Showing some of them sliced afterwards solved that problem. ;-)
Pro tip : watch series at flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching loads of movies lately.
@Terrell Kristopher Definitely, have been using flixzone for since november myself :D
Us, too! Many thanks! 💕
This is what I dream of doing in my retirement. Digging for rocks, being outside, playing in the water. Love it. 🥰
My best advice is start now and don't wait for retirement. It doesn't get easier as you get older.
meMiner oh I am! I’m just dreaming of when I’ll have more time. I have some agates collected from Utah in the tumbler right now. 😋
Daisy is such a relaxed dog. Great finds meMiner!
You got that right!
Love the little laugh when you find something beautiful or cool... awesome video.. thanks again
..
Thanks 👍
That was funny the aluminum rock. Another informative and entertaining video Sir.
Right on
So very good to see you again sir, as ever a really nice video showing some beautiful specimens
Love all the areas you share with all of us.
I love being out there. Planning my next trip now. Daisy is getting excited. She knows something is up.
That was damn cool, and that much high grade silver ore is nothing to scoff at either! Daisy is so fun to watch cutting through the water like a bog ole dog otter! : D
She loves the water. I bet she swam 5 times a day when we were up there.
The crushing process or whatever the way to extract the silver from stone would be a treat to learn...nice video..
Great suggestion!
Dendritic view looking up. 🌳🍃
Very nice Me!
Love seeing those silver nuggets!
✌️PT
Thanks 👍
You found some nice ones.
Enjoyed the episode ✌
Thanks 👍
Yup. That's what Beau would do! Lol
So many amazing specimens in one vid! Keep up the great work, and good health to you.
And then he would have dropped a camera down to look for bones. ;-)
@@meMiner Bwa ha ha!
I've always loved your videos.. took time off and came back. Your editing flow is amazing. I will always come back. ❤️
Thank you so much!!
Me and my dog like watching you the best because of you and your dog. I think my golden retriever likes your dog. Haha. We are saving up to buy a van so we can do the same thing you and your dog do. We appreciate the awesome videos and information so other people, and dogs, can do what you do. I always liked walking my dogs in the woods all of my life. But you and your dog help alot of people to get outside and do something. Besides sitting on the couch and getting alot of health problems. Thanks again and keep up the great work.
Woah I like that! Nice find Daisy had fun
Daisy loves it out there. I hope to go back before the snow flies
Nicest silver finds that I have ever seen! Thanks for sharing meMiner!
You bet
Dendritic view looking up. Excellent.
In hind sight, I should have panned from the trees to a sliced dendritic rock. I don't know why I only think of these things long after a video is edited and posted. LOL
💪😎👍 thanks for sharing the adventure always fun watching the channel great
Thanks 👍
Now your just rubbing it in !!! Congrats on the silver finds
23:30 of silver eye candy !!!!
Yes! Thank you!
Oh, MeMiner! That has got to be one of my FAVORITE of your videos (second only to the one where you searched UNDER a tree♥️)! My A.D.D. appreciated the editing, too! Find a rock and dissolve directly into vid of the cleaned up specimen, and then right back to the hunt! 👌 Well done! And that first one you cut in half and then revealed! ♥️ The silver branching throughout both halves looked like a pair of silver lungs! Really just the coolest stones, great narration, and smart editing - You hit this one out of the park!! ⚾️
Wow. Thanks for the nice comment. Taking a camera on these adventures is a pain in the butt and pulling a video together is lots of work. Hearing wording like this makes it all worthwhile. I never thought about the lightening silver in the dark rock being like a lung, but you are so right!
meMiner Having edited one or two videos on my own gives me TREMENDOUS appreciation for all the hard work and long hours you put into your videos!! Knowing how to masterfully edit videos truly is an art form in and of itself, let alone all the expertise you offer on rock hunting. You, MeMiner, are a master. And I thank you for giving us these well done, informative, and sometimes cheeky videos to entertain and educate us novices! 🙏
Great video. Nice finds
Thanks 👍
What a fun day. Great pieces 👍💪
Yes indeed!
Incredible finds!!!
Thanks
Wow !! A silver lightning slab specimen !!!! Daisy looks good today. The second rock you sliced is awesome !! I Like !! Daisy swimming with a comet trail of dust behind her in the water... It makes one wonder what it would be possible to find walking in a drift with a metal detecter. Thank you for an awesome video !!!!
I am sure old drifts would have some good stuff to find but if you try, stay safe. Old mines can get nasty in a hurry
@@meMiner Yes, I follow both Gly, TVR, and Frank. I have the gear and experience, just need to save up for a decent metal detecter. What brands and models do you reccomend? PS Say hello to the family !!

I love the rock toss...love the sounds...but I always worry Daisy will go after it! I’m sure you take precautions😁
Daisy was in the truck. Safe and sleeping.
Purdy nuggets you have there. Daisy's making me wanna get a dog again! Great vidjeo meMiner!!
You should!
I really appreciate the cut stones. The native silver, that way, is just really gorgeous and a lot more interesting than silverware. Thank you sir, enjoyed the video as always.
I totally agree!
Fun hunting & finding

Nice finds. Thanks for sharing the hunt and finds. Good luck, happy hunting and take care.

Congratulations!
Silver has always been my favourite metal to wear. If im abroad on vacation i never buy any silver juwelry unless it has the Ag (from the Latin argentum number stamp on. Nice cuttings, especially the large one. I love the wind blowing in the leaves. Very nice video :)

Hello Daisy, the dear Silver-Hunting Lab - she does a good job, doesn't she? And very nice editing meMiner, I know it takes a lot of work but it is cool to see the clean cut rock right after you find it! Thank you - glad you're out and about enjoying the old mines, as I guess they didn't get it all - did they? And aren't trees good at keeping secrets?! Keep well & happy fossicking... 👍🦘🐾⛏😎
I spent more time editing than detecting, cleaning and cutting the rocks. I am sure if I was better with the camera that it wouldn't be the case. LOL
Hope you are being heart healthy and happy to see you out and about there again. GL & HH.
Thanks Mark
Beau would go insane seeing that shaft and he would be in there as fast as you could say - hi ho silver , I know , lol, I just had to say that. There were so many nice pieces you pulled out of that new spot and yes " I like".
Some people probably wonder "who is Beau?" I don't have to explain everything. LOL.
@@meMiner If they've ever heard the expression- Are they human ? Will know who Beau is .lol.
@@highenergyog "hoouuman". LOL
Great video, you do awesome work! Millions and millions of tons of mine dumps. Under a fallen tree is an awesome place to hunt, nice find. Not COBALT but COBALTITE.
You are correct about cobaltite, but I like to keep things simple. It would have been awesome if at least one rock in the tree roots was silver for the camera. My favourite place to look on gold creeks is under fallen trees too. Good chance the exposed ground in the root ball and underneath is virgin.
Great to see you and daisy out on another adventure living in the now, long may the adventures continue. Love the way you edit so we see the cut rocks in same episode!
Would you consider trading some UK flourite for some Canadian silver ore?
Thanks for sharing brother
Get hold of me when the postal service isn't so backlogged. I sent a package to Holland 3 months ago and it still has not arrived.
Great vid!! Thanks so much!. 🍁🍁
You are so welcome!
Hiya Greg, DUDE! That's a awesome video, beautiful SILVER. When you cleaned them all up, I find it amazing how they look, lighting patterns and you could drill a hole into it and wear them on a necklace or something.
Hey when you threw that rock in the mine, I think you hit the devil on the head with one of them, I always love going on those adventures with ya, so to speak. Daisy is doing pretty good I see, she's so sweet. I hope you have a awesome day and have a blessed one too.
I learned afterward that most of the silver in that area came from that shaft. It was so good that they built a town there (now completely gone)
@@meMiner that's so cool, but I guess when the silver ran out, the people ran out too, well they sure left a lot. I guess if you're finding so much, that little bit won't make that much difference.
Enjoyed your video, keep hunting!
Thanks Denise
Wow meMinner my dear friends. Great video...💜
Many many thanks
Greig,
You miner, and minimal digging required.
You find a dirty one, there's water over here, wash the dirt off.
Daisy wanders over, sniff, sniff, lap, lap, lap, a quick glance up, Yep dad, thats water.
What an amazing haul you had, go steady though, all that weight over rough ground, you can always stash some away and return later after rensting, i've done things like that for years, in my younger days I liberated some huge cuts of old electric pylon earthing rods that were solid copper, they were being held captive by a scrap metal dealer who was waiting for the best ransom money, I gave them to a gentleman who recycled metal and he rewarded me handsomly for my noble gesture of liberation.
I will of course deny any involvement in the above liberation.
The big rock you couldn't cut, that would make some outstanding cabs or slabs.
Loved the dendritic discription, very clever.
You out did yourself again my friend.
Stay safe.
Always love your comments.,

I have just found your chnl and are loving all your finds. I can see I have a lot of catching up to do tho.
I am a long time rock hound from MN, with ice creampails full of rocks,
many agates, and any rock I find appealing and a large heart-shaped stone from Lake Superior. I would say that was a superior find..tee hee.

Hey...! That was awesome.....! Who'd of thought there would be almost 15 lbs of Silver under a downed tree....? There's one person I know that would think that, meMiner..! Experienced in Rock Hounding backed up by Daisy who keeps a close eye on him while he's busy seeking the Silver raw ore and the streaks, and the veins.. and the specks..! =)
I am sure the whole mine dump was originally like that but it has been detected for the past 40 years. It is nice to find a small spot that is virgin
Nice finds :)

Ok, I'm dying to know. Do you sell these as specimens, cab them, or smelt the silver out? Thanks
I collect for fun and don't have a store. I have traded, gifted and kept some for my own collection. I have the tools for cabbing, but not the skill. Maybe this winter.
great vid very well produced,be great to see a big silver bar cast out of that lot.......

awesome amount of silver thanks
You bet
You must have a hundred pounds of silver on the deck.
You can never have too much silver or gold. ;-)

Awesome adventure cool area sweet sweet score of silver now daisy won’t even register of the metal detector she is a a rare gem swim of course you sure got some sweet pieces awesome wow on the piece you sliced Thank you for adventure
Gold, silver and platinum will set off a metal detector, but Daisy is a jewel and won't make the detector beep. ;-)
‘I like.’ Once again meMiner finds treasure, this time under a tree. And, being in his neck of the woods, hi Ty. Furthermore thanks to your inspiration have in a two barrel tumbler, flint, chert and jasper. I’ve been saving material to try and knap some points. I wonder if they will be okay too polish together?
Flint, Chert and Jasper should be OK together in a tumbler. I tried to get hold of Ty on this trip. I saw his buddy, but not him.
Sweet as...✌️😎
Seriously we need a tumbled silver video! I know you have before with different things. But full 4 stage, you can lessen the days and then pan the grit. Lol
I have tumbled silver before but don't have the process figured out (yet). If they tumble for too long, then the rocks grind down to little round nuggets which polish really well. I have tried stainless steel jewelry mix or walnut shell to just clean the stones, but then they don't polish. For sure, panning the slurry is a good idea, because there is lots of silver and other heavies.
In the 1959 movie titled The Hanging Tree, a glory hole of gold was found under a tree stump.
Classic movie!
Hi, meMiner, you need a lather patch on your jeans. Thank you for this fine video!
Yes I do!
Hi hope you’re ok when you have time it would be awesome if when you do some tumbling if you could put a couple of smaller pieces of the silver rocks in it would be interesting to see how they turn out thanks for the awesome video cheers Phil
A silver tumbling video would be cool.
You should definitely tumble those nuggets and see if the pink cobalt and silver turn out nice. The calcite will be gone. Full 4 stage tumble. The pink shows nice in the slices!
Good idea!!
Wrangler jeans should use you in a commercial polishing rocks ....lol or Tide .
My Mom used to say that when I was 5 too. LOL
You still running your flat lap?? Some of these look like good candidates! Nice work!
So much to do and so little time. I have it set up but have not spun it for a while. Some of the slices would be good to polish
Silver is around $206 USD per pound. in High Quality. You pulled about 14.5lbs in Rough Quality. I bet you have at least $2,600 dollars from that trip alone if you grind them, and melt the powder in a High Temp Crucible. And Sell them as Pure Ingots or Blocks.
Great video and beautiful scenery! How do you extract the silver from the rock? Do you have a home smelter?
I don't
2 Thumbs Up!
A good day with two of my favourite buddies.
I like the eBay notification tone
Which sound is the ebay one?
how would that calcite cut and polish? would it keep its pink/ red color? great video
Calcite is a bit soft, but if you are careful then it will polish.
@@meMiner i meant the pink / red colored rock, i just havent been able to remember what name you call it, calcite is cool to carve with a dremal tool, but yup it dont polish to good, maybe its cobalt ? i,m thinking of, glad to see you daisy out and about
@@yoopermann7942 Cobalt will polish. but the rock tends to be a bit crumbly and contains arsenic.
Really gorgeous Silvah nuggies my friend! Congratulations!! Do you sell specimens on a site?
Sorry, no. I collect for fun and don't have a store
On another note, as for the silver in matrix specimens, I know the calcite will disolve in acid. What happens to the rock parts? Do they stay intact or will they become brittle to expose more of the silver? tnx
Some of the other rock becomes brittle and can be broken off with my fingers.
Now we know what’s beneath one ☝️
Awesome
Indeed!

What Detector are you using?
I know that's not where I go detecting and hounding but man it looks so much the same. Must be just across the lake hehe.

Nice!!
Would you ever do tours/ lessons on detecting silver?
No. I would be a really bad guide.
Hello Greg.
May I ask where you purchased your digger?
Thanks

The yellow one?
Fantastic! It'd be interesting to know what a crushed cubic foot of that ore would be worth. If it had 1% silver in it, and the gathered ore averaged 150 pounds per cubic foot of crushed ore, then it would contain 1.5 pounds of silver. At $25.48 per troy ounce (12 t.o. per troy pound), a cubic foot would be worth $305. Then there's the potential value of cobalt, currently $15.50 per pound. Or other elements/minerals possibly associated. With gold, one speck visible under a 10x handlens, is roughly correlated with 1 ounce per ton, if memory serves. Silver being 56% of the weight of gold, would probably be .56 ounces per ton, based on one visible speck. And the rocks you've found have visible STREAKS. By the way, a word for fallen trees can be 'windthrown trees' and their bases, 'rootwads'. I learned that when younger, in a job mapping soils.
Windthrown and rootwad are great words that I have never heard spoken. Kinda like tide wrack for ocean garbage. Thanks for the interesting comment
As I near retirement I have taken an interest in mining and geology. I wish I had paid more attention in my high school geology class. I have looked in on a number of UA-camrs who explore abandoned mines, and while interesting I don't hear a lot about real geology or a description of the minerals. Maybe you're the guy to follow?
I love exploring but I am sure there are better people regarding geology. I am still learning too
If your any thing like myself i would love to see you go to cerro gordo one day
And because of you, I flock to the ole tree that has falleen..lol..Also am I a girly girl for I love the cobalt too?..it being pink and all..take care.. peace!
I know others like the cobalt too. When I dig one that I don't want, I put it on top of another rock so it can be seen. It doesn't last long before someone takes it.
How do you handle the cobalt? How radioactive is it in matrix like that?
It is cobalt ore. Mostly arsenide minerals. Zero radioactivity.
Thanks
Exactly.
Time Stamp 10:56 Rusty Green JADE, HUGE Almost BOTTOM LEFT.
And I missed seeing it when I was there
Sweet! You done any Nickel hunting?
Nickel ore? Lots of it in this area. Hard to avoid as it is the same reading on the detector as high grade silver.
At the 8 minute mark Silver rings up a 6 on the Equinox. 11, 12 and 24 in others...Good to know.
In a good spot, I dig everything 2 and above. Small pieces can come up at much lower numbers than larger chunks. Also, if there is cobalt in the rock, it tends to lower the number. Pure cobalt will blow away the pinpointer, but won't make a sound on the Equinox. I guess it is in the iron range.
perhaps I missed when you mentioned the name of this site ..and/or closest town. Thanx
In Bancroft it is called the CN dump or CN rock dump.
If I was a adult had a car and had money for gas I would definitely check out cobalt Ontario
by the time your able to get out ther on your own, there will still be heaps of silver to find in Cobalt👍
Maybe ask Santa for a metal detector to use near home. Lots of cool stuff to find no matter where you live. Maybe one day we will see each other in Cobalt.
There was an article years back, about a fellow in New York City, who made a living just finding lost diamonds in cracks in the sidewalks, gutters, and streets. There is also actual platinum group metal dust along roadsides, from vehicle catalytic converter dust blown out of exhaust systems. It's only in the ppm or less, but perhaps it collects like gold in cracks/crevices of concrete waterways.
Awesome content, at the 20 min mark you mentioned a sample and said "talking about character" Would you consider selling that sample?
Heak id buy just any of his specimens, if sold them.
I am a terrible salesman. I collect for fun and don't have a store. I am not sure, but think I could get in trouble selling rocks from a place that I don't own.
Nope, absolutely no sales, I tried that years ago for some banded iron formation (jasper).
Simply would not sell.
Don't give up though, there is such a thing as barter, if you donated something nice i'm sure he would send something in return, deal agreed before posting, obviously.
Then again I may be completely wrong.
@@meMiner I certainly don't want anyone to get in trouble. I appreciate the reply.
@@doozeybig4130
They are beautiful, they look so good on display after a coating of lacquer especially in the sunlight.
The best you can hope for is a competition, or giveaway.
I'm curious about the smelting, too. Is that something you do with these pieces or do you sell them as-is to let others smelt? (I know nothing about this but as someone who's played his share of computer games where you do things like that, it makes me wonder if you're at home crafting your own weapons. HA!)
I think I could make enough bullets to make werewolves nervous. ;-)
Hey, great videos. I’ve been watching you for quite awhile. This video in particular you say you brought out 14+ lbs... Of that, how much do you think is silver? And could you show us how to bring this down to pure silver?
Most of the pieces have more value as-is. It would be dumb to refine them. Each rock will have.a different percentage of silver. For example, the one with lightening was quality silver but overall mostly rock. Other pieces are solid vein, but still mixed with other metals. Usually, for those the suggested average percentage is 50% silver. Higher if really shinny and less if showing nickel or cobalt.
That is a very good clarification, thank you! If one would be so foolish as to want a silver bar, he would actually lose value...?
Side note, I am very interested in getting into gold prospecting and I’m in southern Ontario. Hamilton actually. Will you be going after gold again soon?
At 4:30 in are you going to dissolve the calcite away ?
Maybe..,.. ;-)
@@meMiner yeah that would be neat of all the silver holds it's shape. Check it for continuity too see if it's all connected !
@@chrissaucier9386 I save the little pieces that fall off for melting later.
Can these be ground down to a powder, and then melted in a large crucible, into Ingots.?
yep
I like ! I had thought Cobalt was in demand for batteries. Maybe its cheaper in Africa at low wages or no pollution controls. Not sure of the quantity there ?
Cobalt from this area is difficult (expensive) to refine.
What do you use to cut rocks?
I will do a video about it. I have two saws, but I tend to use my tile saw more. I have started a video about the tile saw and blade. Should have it done in the next week, if it stops raining and the wind stops gusting.
Thank you! I recently bought a dremel but I tend to loose a lot when I cut
I bet I have something you would be interested in bartering, Gloves!! What size do you wear? Leather or, I am thinking reinforced fabric for dexterity? Let me know. I am due a vacation so if I can get across the boarder, we can meet in Cobalt! :o)
