a good safety tip is to have baking soda and fresh water on hand. The baking soda will reduce the acidity or ph of the acid far more rapidly than soap and water.

Lol thanks for the warning I'll keep that in mind on the acid lol it sounded like a egg was cooking in the frying pan it sure does do a good job exposing the silver I love watching you collect the minerals but my favorite part is watching you clean them up afterwards and exposing the minerals I believe your the only one who does this so for that thank you great video meMiner
Thanks Molly. The difficulty after a good trip is to line up the rocks that were found on video afterwards when home. They tend to get mixed up or look different when cleaned. This is especially a problem if I visit more than one site or have multiple videos. I am sure one day that I will mess it up in pure confusion and get called out on it. LOL
If I were to guess, I would say there was about 4 oz of silver. We lost 1/4 lb with rock that just dissolved. Some of the remaining was pure silver (such as the leaf), but other parts would be mixed with metals such as nickeline and any remaining calcite.
Always have thick long gloves, and your neutralize water, usually baking soda have it ready before you touch acid so if you do happen to get a drip on skin you can neutralize immediately. I do this with my agates n jaspers in 55 gal tubs or 5 gal buckets. Be very careful. Do not splash or just dump rocks into acid. Gently place them.
MeMiner the acid ate the rocks up neat structures left behind fascinating stuff when I was growing up in the sixties growned up's use to say don't mess with acid?!, Thanks cool video!!!
Unknown My pleasure, it may seem like nothing is happening for several days and sometimes it's better if you can remove the rock, scrub with a stiff bristled brush and continue the soaking , top up vintages if required.

I decided to clean some old brake disks with muriatic acid once. I forgot they were in there and about an hour later I returned to find NOTHING! They were just gone.

Also trying to score the video myself. Also going to start a new channel called "G-Ology", and start doing videos where I talk and you can see me. In time........
I saw the price of silver is 14.31 US dollars/ounce. Is there anyway to sell your samples as silver or just to collectors at shows? Where I live there is just some glacier deposit rocks. Lots of quartz and granite found in the fields. Lots of different rocks on the lake shores but rarely a collectable thing. I never here of any gold or silver. The glaciers scattered it out.
There is a collector value where the silver is visible. Finding metals in glacial deposits is difficult. However, there are some places where placer gold can be found, including Ohio and Maine
Thanks Kelly. I try to read all of my comments, but a thumbs down from some troll (probably living in his Mom's basement) without the courage to provide feedback is useless. It no matter. ;-)
I just wanted to add as someone who has burned themselves multiple times with acid over the years one if water is not available using just ripping grass out of the ground and rubbing it on your skin is a good way to neutralize if you don't have anything at hand... If splash in your eye while you're cleaning something with a brush or something or even while you're rinsing your rocks definitely flush even if they don't feel like they're burning I've been blind one time when I turned on the air conditioner in my car after some acid my eyes (crusted over completel)y and finally always have a box of baking soda sitting around In well-ventilated area and still use a properly classed respirator and protective equipment
It does a really good job when you want to etch minerals out and for all its danger it's hard not to watch when it's doing the work, you can easily get mesmerised , but the first tiny little wiff and you get brought back to your senses. Good job, the spongy ones , will they harden up as they get dryer?
Certainly the core of the spongy ones is hard. I am not sure if the outside will stay really fragile or will harden up enough to really notice. I have had others in the past that shed some of the outside with rough handling.
meMiner I have treated nodules to expose the quartz within and it did a wonderful job, one in particular was absolutely stunning, as you know I am not a collector but I would not have parted with this one but....... the shell covering the crystal quartz within the nodule became so brittle it literally imploded while I was trying to polish it.
I usually end up wearing those looong "kitchen" gloves lol ya know the ones that go the whole way up to the elbow...but thats because i'm pretty clumsy so better to be extra safe rather than sorry haha. Love the vid!
They would work fine. I think where most people get into trouble is using their hands to fish out the rocks at the end of the etch. It doesn't hurt, so they go merrily along not realizing their flesh is slowly burning.
meMiner hello, sorry for my bad English. I don't understand. I can use sulfuric acid? I have pyrite and chalcopyrite . How I can separate them? Can I find platinum family and silver in chalcopyrite? I don't have HCl , nitric acid and aqua Regia in my country. I have only access to sulfuric acid. Do you have a magic idea for separate or dissolve quartz ore: chalcopyrite and other? Thank you. I speak French. Best regards.
@@jeanpierre4299 More often gold is in chalcopyrite. The way to get it out if plentiful is to crush it and pan it out. You can use acids, but that gets expensive.
I am in Canada and the colours are meaningless here. To me it is not a flag, just some partial decoration on a camo hat. More important, it is a cap that says "bucked up" with a picture of a deer, earned when I didn't shoot at a buck when deer hunting.
I see your thumb nail photo has you sticking out your tongue. In some cultures (most) sticking out your tongue is considered rude and is a sign of disrespect. YOU don't do hate? Give me a break. Just pointing out that in todays culture you can find "hate" in anything. You want to find hate? There are plenty of UA-cam Channels out there for you to find that. This is not one of them and never has been. Take care and peace. I would have said God Bless but I'm afraid you might take offense to that.
I liked you before... but I subscribed for the hat. You're awesome

Maybe some safety goggles and rubber gloves.
I absolutely just enjoy your videos what I look for on UA-cam is family-friendly entertainment and you my friend meet that standard very well
Wow. Thanks for the nice comment.

I enjoyed this video a lot. Fascinating to see what is exposed. Would you estimate total silver weight to be a few ounces?

55 gal tubs? Wow! I could not imagine a bad spill. Good advice on splashes. Thanks

I shaved right after this filming this video. LOL
Another amazing episode. That was very interesting. Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to your winter projects lol. Take care and be safe.
I don't hope for snow too soon...still lots to do.
I dont think the product you use is legal in Sweden. Can I use some "Vinäger"?😆
Vinegar works fine. It is just slower.

About one week but keep checking and moving the rocks about.

If I do anything to help the silver by removing more black, it will likely destroy the portions that are mixed metal.
Nice !!!

You probably went full strength. Probably just a dip into that would have been satisfactory. :-)

Hey Greg I noticed your specimens come out black like mine have you figured out a way to remove the black tarnish
I don't have a perfect answer other than the less other minerals the better
First look up acanthite, then look up the value of acanthite. If after that you still have a desired to destroy it, look up roasting sulfides. Lmao
Does HCl affect pyrite?
It is slightly affected. It can be destroyed if left in too long. A short exposure is sometimes fine.
what happens if you put volcanic obsidian in Merck acid ?
Muriatic should not affect obsidian. If you try a piece, let me know. I don't have any to test.
Hi how can separate silver from ston
It is a complex process. I have not yet tried to do it.
🤯
hello, can I use sulfuric acid? Best regards
Dangerous stuff. If you google "mineral solubility table marulla", you can see what is affected and not affected by various acids. Just be careful.
