  • About Grandmaster Dave Wheaton:
As the world seems to be spinning faster and our lives appear more and more demanding, so many of us have become task oriented "Do-ers" who's switch is always on, leaving the overstimulated brain to run full speed ahead. This nonstop thinking can cause stress and an unconscious resistance to the natural flow of joy, wellness and creative expression. Grandmaster Dave Wheaton will share some of the life lessons he has learned in the martial arts that reduce resistance and increase flow in our daily lives.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

The flow you speak about is actually a basic principle of Taoism.. You did a great job of being creative in using martial arts to describe the concept of flowing with the current of life. The only thing is, once you can tap into that "current", you don't have to "row" at all. The same force that gave you life will guide you through life if you let it.

Super Talk- Simple. It is nice when the Simple things are all that is needed. Too often lots and lots of people get bogged down in needing quick fixes and some stratospheric type of cure or technique .x. Flow, love it. Coach T. And a Bow to Grandmaster Wheaton!

Talk about the bow, the humility. That's what martial arts are about.

Loved it! Especially the martial arts component and applying it to every day use, not just for elite athletes...well done!

I really dislike when these guys make a relatively simple concept seem mystical or profound. What he calls flow is found in boxing and muay thai and jiu-jitsu. It's so obvious. Of course, once in a while you might just have to hold your hands together and block a hard shot. But ideally you just want to parry a punch, this is taught in the first day of boxing. You redirect the oncoming punch just a little so that even if you get grazed by the shot, it's not devastating. It's nothing complicated and it's far more practical than what's happening here. No one is going to leave their arm out for you to grab and play with and do all your fancy moves. And if you do it fast, you would actually lose "flow".

"Grandmaster" Dave Wheaton Apparently he was TKD and magically turned into a Hapkido Grandmaster overnight. Terrible that they sold him as real.

He didn't magically do anything, this guy taught me Hapkido in 1985. Granted, I know this is just for kids to give them self respect, and not protection

They should call martial arts masters choreography masters to be more in line with truth. Parents who pay these confidence artists monthly fees must suffer from a disconnect with reality to continue paying the lucrative fees.
