- Dominic Jones’ dynamic talk highlighted how the scientific understanding of human movement is critical in the study of the martial arts. According to his instructor Dr. Ron Chapél, it is the responsibility of the martial scientist to experiment and find the most effective movement patterns that consistently perform in hands-on, stressful, self-defense situations. The audience enthusiastically participated in eye opening martial science experiments and discovered in the words of Ed Parker, that “To see is to be deceived, to hear is to doubt, but to feel is to believe.”
Associate Professor, Consultant, Martial Scientist. Focused on helping others achieve their education, business and personal development goals.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx
The next presentations in Japan will focus on using martial science to teach English.
Good job Dominic as always.
Thank you sir.
Spreading the word :-)
Outstanding, Professor Jones.
Thank you sir!
A first step on the journey :-)
A brief introduction to Martial Science. More to come :-)
camera work makes this incomprehensible
Physical experiments to show how an understanding of human movement can be applied to self-defense.

Thank you for your feedback. Next time will be better :-)
Dominic Jones check out professor dohgon momoh please Google him or watch him on UA-cam
Really interesting. Dom Jones was an entertaining and informative speaker. The demonstrations were cool!! Though the camera man needs a few lessons!
Thanks Dom
It was a high risk presentation strategy to use a volunteer on the fly.
The beauty of the martial sciences is that the ideas are testable and repeatable :-)
There is definitely a science to martial arts but this isn't it. There are more effective movements that use leverage. However, this TED talk is a bad example. This guy only has a background in Kenpo. His demos are not convincing especially thinking of "strong" vs "weak". The best way to demonstrate this is to avoid subjectivity and thought. Only isolate the movement. It's physics. Kanishka Sharma, who has a background in Kung Fu, did a better job in his TED talk. He teaches the commandos in India. He knows a variety of martial arts.
I agree there are better examples even with the handshake. Or the pushing. His are filled with very poor information.
awful camera work
Unfortunately, the second HD camera malfunctioned in my talk so the video was edited from a lower quality feed. Not ideal :-) The joy of live events.
shin is a mo'fukin badass.
Shin did a great job :-)
Good topic. Bad camera man.
Martial science is such an interesting field of study. Be it Psychology of Confrontation, Martial Posture, Articulation of Use of Force.
Why does this guy reminds me of Dr Who? Lovely videot though
Judo is #1, period.
I have not studied Judo but it's practitioners are tough and they know how to break fall, which is an essential self-defense skill.
could be a terrible judo user though.
@@MrSendaikenpo The balance and control over center of gravity in high-level judoka is an impressive thing.
whats up with his hair
I keep thinking the same thing. Celtic roots :-)
Absolutely silly.
