This is a real nice stove. Like the features that you put in. My I suggest you put in firebrick on the floor as this will keep heat right on the wood from the bottom. Keep on a welding fella.
This. Is. AMAZING!!! I've seen multiple videos of people making wood burning stoves out of old metal drums, but this trump's every wood burning stove I've ever seen. The heat reclaiming piping is freaking genius. You wouldn't wanna sell it would you 😅😅? Or make another one I could buy? This looks and most likely works 20X better than name brand wood stoves.
A ash pan would be a waste in this type as the fire would blow ash to the sides and under it. Better option is to throw a few bags of sand in to start with to protect the base from the fire and later can be replaced with fire bricks. A manifold from the air intake pipe run under a screen to hold the fire/coals will give you a more even burn but the key will be a valve on the air intake pipe to control the intake air. Those pipes will be one of the first things to go wrong on it with them glowing red if that blower fan ever turns off with the fire going. They will have internal and external flaking until there is a breach in them.
"Robust" barely begins to describe that stove. Lots of good ideas that I would never have thought of. One little tip, I have in my hand (to make sure I get it right) a can of Rust-Oleum high heat, header paint, rated to 2000F. I bet that beats the heck out of stove paint which is probably rated at 800 to 1000F.
Ur lucky ,the scrap yard I have to deal with charges a buck a pound for steel like u got. Cherry city metals in Salem Oregon, they need to change their name to bend over metals.
Great work....super thick should last many firings. A ash tray may keep the bottom from warping. The door and hinges are so pracrical....a small glass window out of pyrex would be a neat touch. Very cost effective.

That's a great stove!! Not unlike the 55gallon drum stoves but much thicker. I like it. Can you explain the part where you cut a section out of the steel pipe and turned it upside down and re-installed it? I didn't see where that ended up in the final product.

You need to control the air intake......I have an exhaust damper on my stove , but never use it ! On wood stoves the air intake is used to control the burn rate .

It really works great. I have put a piece of metal to redirect the hot air blowing from the front of the stove because when it's on you'll get burned by walking in front of it

If you passed water through one of the pipes, to a small tank, you could also produce hot water for the shop as well ...

hope no leaks develop on the pipe connections or in the pipes themselves, otherwise carbon monoxide will be forced out the pipes
